#maryoliver #podcast #poetry #mitchhampton #film #documentary Inside this episode: An American Poet: A Conversation with filmmaker Sasha Waters on Mary Oliver, Documentary Film and the ArtsWhen the subject of a film is no less a figure than Mary Oliver, not only one of the greatest of 20th Century American Poets but also one who wrote of and from the natural world as much as the human and cultural world, it might seem that the visual dimension is as important as the spoken or written word. Sasha Waters has, incredibly, accomplished this in her film Mary Oliver: Saved By The Beauty Of The World, a film that approaches in image some of what Oliver did in her words. I enjoyed speaking with Sasha about her process in making her film as its universality and particularity speaks to us now in 2026 in ways that feel most relevant.Sasha Waters Bio:Sasha Waters is an American documentary and experimental filmmaker, feminist and educator. She has produced and directed twenty films, most of which were shot on her 16mm Bolex. Her films have screened at the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of the Moving Image, the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival and DOC NYC. She is a Professor of Photography and Film at VCU School of the Arts in Richmond, Virginia. She has been a Fellow in residence at MacDowell, Yaddo, and at Millay Arts.Synopsis of Mary Oliver: Saved By The Beauty Of The World:If poetry had a pop icon, Mary Oliver would be it. Celebrated bestseller, Pulitzer Prize winner, lover of dogs and long walks in the woods, openly queer but intensely private, Oliver was America's unlikely contemporary mystic, stalking the ponds and forests of Cape Cod for nearly 50 years in order to open herself – and her readers – to the known and unknowable world. From a lonely childhood to literary fame, Oliver's life was shaped by devotion to nature, paying attention, and the long journey toward learning to love and to be loved. Her poems inspire liberals and conservatives, atheists and believers, naturalists and urbanites, speaking directly to contemporary anxieties about attention, presence, and the human relationship with the natural world – issues that feel especially pressing in an era of climate crisis, digital distraction, and social fragmentation. Featuring interviews with her close friends, including John Waters, never-before-seen personal photos, notebooks, and correspondence from her archive, and recitations of her work by Stephen Colbert, Lucy Dacus, Steve Buscemi, and Oprah Winfrey, Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World considers the poet's long lifetime of work in context, capturing the uniqueness of her world and the natural beauty that inspired her.#poetry #queer #nature #massachusetts  #newengland #documentary #pbs #healing #spirituality #recovery #trauma #wilderness #botany #biology #family #conservation #literature #sharonolds #elizabethbishop #Emerson #thoreau #robertfrost #transcendentalism #religion #faith #boston #virginia #iowa #writer #garywinogrand #normanmailer #newyork #romanticism #robertlowell #biography #america #feminism #lesbian #gay #bookstore #johnwaters #stephencolbert #oprahwinfrey #bookclub #youth #education #pinkflamingos #multiplemaniacs #baltimore #maryland #ptown #provincetown #divine #drag #lucydacus #stevebuscemi #helenabonhamcarter #season #summer #winter #spring #fall #jessewelles #1950s #1960s #1870s #1980s #1990s #2000s #dogs #dogmom #animals #modernism #postmodernism #1800s #20thcentury #1700s #tseliot #annesexton #maysarton #sylviaplath #ornithology #birds #forest #woods #bear #sufriedrich #lynnesachs #fredwiseman More about us:Our podcast is a comprehensive examination of all matters aesthetic, all the arts and humanities, how they connect us, a celebration of the creative process across all of the arts and most of all, what it means to be human. DateThis IPS DEprogram session took place on Sunday, June 28, 2026.The session focuses on deconstructing the "Metascript," a framework which posits that global news and history are a manufactured "puppet show" of engineered events. The speaker argues that the world is governed by a secondary timeline of scripted "PsyOps" that merge with real life through predictive and concurrent programming in entertainment media. The goal of the program is to move participants from being "low information believers" to "informed non-believers" who adopt an "off-world stage perspective," effectively inoculating them against the "mind viruses" used by power elites to trigger emotional reactions and justify social control.Influence Operation: The speaker asserts the film is not merely entertainment but a strategic "influence op" designed to appeal to the "woke right" and radicalized "incel" demographics.Archetypal Fusion: The film is described as a "woke right Batman" that merges the character of Bruce Wayne with the sociopathic Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.Video Manifesto: The movie is characterized as a "video version" of extremist manifestos (citing Anders Breivik and Brenton Tarrant) that coordinates with the grievances of the recent Montreal shooter.Targeted Agitprop: It reportedly recreates the real-world subway killing of a woman to force an emotional identification with "White Lives Matter" martyrs.Pretext for Control: The film's promotion by figures like Elon Musk is seen as a way to build the narrative of a "right-wing mind virus" (Disease X), which will eventually be used as a pretext to lock down the internet. The WWE Political Model: Politics and news follow a "World Wrestling Entertainment" model (Kayfabe), where events are designed to trigger emotional "heels" and "faces" rather than intellectual contemplation.Historical Recyclability: The speaker points to "recycled Metascript" in the parallels between the Lincoln and JFK assassinations, arguing these were scripted martyr figures rather than random historical events. The Charlie Kirk "Simulation": Analysis of the Charlie Kirk shooting as a "generational PsyOp" involving crisis actors, "hoax indicators" like crime scene tape, and "blood bags" (squibs) to create a manufactured martyr.Reticular Activating System (RAS) Priming: How predictive programming "hijacks" the brain's filtering system to pre-sell the public on future staged events, making them feel inevitable. The News Testament: The theory that media has supplanted religion, providing a "News Testament" that frames the collective worldview through "lies agreed upon"."Everything about it just seems very intentional and highly engineered and one of the reasons i've been looking closely at this is... many movies are just influence ops.""The merging of real and fake is an ongoing process every fake event becomes fake history every new cycle is a page in the history book.""I advocate here for, we foment here, a culture of disbelief... If the facts don't support knowing it to be true, I will remain an informed disbeliever.""To be deprogrammed is to leave their new cycle frame of reference and recognize that the new cycle is one page in a fabricated history book.""A mind virus is one that you pick up passively... it bypassed your mental immune system... mind war inoculation is really a process of recognizing the various tactics and strategies of psychological operations."Synopsis of IPS DEprogramCitizen Vigilante BreakdownMain Topics5 Key Quotes

Hello, Kaiju Lovers! And happy birthday, Ray Harryhausen! And Nate and Elijah, too. Yes, they're back for their annual crossover, and this year in their reverse order coverage of Ray's filmography, they've reached an outlier: One Million Years B.C. (1967). While it has a cinematographer and director Ray had worked with, this wasn't produced by Charles H. Schneer or distributed by Columbia Pictures. No, this is a Hammer Film and a remake of a 1940 movie starring Lon Chaney Jr. It made Raquel Welch an overnight star and sex symbol (much to her chagrin). Not only is it one of the British studio's most successful films, it might be the most iconic dinosaur film predating Jurassic Park (see MIFV episode 79). Nate and Elijah get into all the nitty-gritty of this prehistoric epic—including the censored cuts made to the U.S. version—in this sensational celebration! n this episode of The Circuit, hosts Ben Bajarin and Jay Goldberg break down the latest tech earnings and shifting infrastructure narratives driving the AI boom. Recorded slightly late ahead of the Computex frenzy in Taipei, the duo kicks things off with a surprising reading recommendation: Pope Leo XIV's balanced, 40,000-word encyclical on AI. Shifting to the markets, they analyze Marvell's solid quarter, highlighting how the transition from training to a heterogeneous inference era is shifting Wall Street's focus toward the company's robust optical and throughput networking portfolio rather than just core compute tiles. They also tackle the opacity of electronic design automation licensing to explain why Synopsys saw a 10% stock drop despite a healthy print, noting market anxiety over their massive acquisition of Ansys. Finally, Ben takes a victory lap on his bullish Dell thesis; following a monster guidance report, the hosts discuss how Dell's deep supply-chain integration, flexible financing terms, and premium enterprise support have made them the OEM of choice for both "neo-clouds" and upcoming on-prem enterprise AI factories. The episode closes with a spirited debate comparing NVIDIA's massive ecosystem value creation to Apple's App Store "economic miracle," contrasting standardizing growth with Taiwanese ODM concerns over thinning margins and a loss of differentiation.

Silver Bullet (1985) Review | Vintage Cinema Review (Stephen King Werewolf Classic)Dave, Matt, and Zap welcome viewers to Vintage Cinema Review and discuss 1985's Silver Bullet, directed by Dan Attias and written by Stephen King from his Cycle of the Werewolf, including its release date, runtime, budget/box office, and Wilmington, North Carolina filming for a story set in Maine. They run through the cast (Gary Busey, Corey Haim, Megan Follows, Everett McGill, Terry O'Quinn) and recap the plot: a werewolf terrorizes Tarker's Mills; wheelchair-bound Marty is attacked after firing a firework into the creature's eye, leading Marty and Jane to suspect Reverend Lowe, who later kills the sheriff before being stopped with a handmade silver bullet. The hosts trade quotes, goofs, nostalgia (TV sign-offs), fun facts and what-ifs, then rate the movie using their late fee/return/burn system.00:00 Welcome to Vintage Cinema00:28 Why Silver Bullet01:10 Release and Production Facts01:52 Filming Location Debate02:52 Cast Roll Call04:18 Dune and Twin Peaks Tangent05:35 Synopsis and Twist Talk07:37 Plot Walkthrough Begins10:35 Picnic Pranks and First Kills15:08 Greenhouse Murder and Milt Quotes22:04 Curfew and Vigilante Hunt24:00 Uncle Red Steals the Show25:09 Bikes Stunts and Wheelchair Logic27:34 Old School Mourning Armband28:09 Barroom Vigilantes28:44 Shotgun Price Shock30:05 Fog Scene One Liners30:40 Marty Tracks The Reverend32:25 Bridge Chase And Silver Bullet33:53 Recycling Deposits Tangent35:25 Sin Pattern In Victims37:30 Finale And Bullet Jokes40:33 TV Sign Off Nostalgia44:05 Clean Ending And Catchphrases46:26 Werewolf With A Bat47:48 Fun Facts And Casting49:54 Stephen King Universe Talk51:30 Corey Haim Tragedy52:27 Stephen King By Numbers52:44 Building The Werewolf Suit53:09 Best Transformations Debate55:25 Casting What Ifs57:25 Movie Cars And DUI Era01:00:36 Ebert Calls It Comedy01:02:28 Fox Network Sign Offs01:05:17 Late Fee Return Burn01:09:15 Wheelchair Hero Talk01:11:15 Wrap Up And Plugs
