Exposure to a highly toxic weedkiller called paraquat is tied to a person's risk of developing Parkinson's disease. Lawmakers in Missouri and other Midwestern states have tried to pass measures banning paraquat. But as the Midwest Newsroom's Luke Nozicka reports, their efforts have stalled this year.

In this episode of Ten Minute Tuesday, we dive into the surprising legal battle that helped shape modern waterfowl hunting in America. The story begins in 1914 with an Arkansas hunter, a few coots, and a federal government attempting something brand new: regulating migratory birds across state lines. What started as a relatively small hunting violation quickly turned into a much bigger constitutional question—who actually has the authority to protect a duck that refuses to stay in one state? The episode follows the early Weeks-McLean Act, the court cases that challenged federal waterfowl regulations, and the confusion hunters faced when state and federal seasons didn't agree. After federal judges ruled the original approach unconstitutional, the government changed strategies entirely. That eventually led to an international migratory bird treaty, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, and the Supreme Court's landmark Missouri v. Holland decision. It's a fascinating look at how duck hunting regulations, states' rights, conservation, and even international diplomacy became connected through the birds traveling America's flyways.    Remember last month when President Trump went to the NATO Summit in Turkey and they switched out Air Force One planes for the prez?  Well, turns out he didn't fly on either one of them.  According the Washington Post, Trump and his closest aides got in catering truck after boarding the plane and were taken to a different military jet to fly to England.  Incredible.    It's getting worse and worse for Tony Fauci... and all of us.  Wow, how many lies could this man tell?  According to his text messages, Fauci was concerned about first trimester miscarriages for women after taking the Covid jab.  His concern was proven to be the truth.... his public backing of the vax to go ahead and take it if you're pregnant was criminal.    Missouri's Will Scharf has been promoted by the president and he's more than deserving.    The WNBA is at a crossroads, after 30 years in business, because they're trying to figure out what a "woman" is in their rules and charter.  This league is a mess.    Eric Bieniemy is back at Chiefs camp after his son allegedly shot his wife in Virginia.  KU gets to play home games this year but there will be "temporary conditions" with some restrooms and concessions as they're still a year away from completing their nearly all new stadium.  And a golfer that cheated is totally humiliated in St. Louis.

It's no secret that voters are increasingly disgusted by today's extremist, right-wing Republican lawmakers. But less known is the fact that extremist GOP lawmakers are even more disgusted by you voters!They're so disgusted that a top legislative priority of Republican leaders in the White House, Congress, and state legislatures is to rig election rules, literally to rule-out issues and voters they don't like. For example, Republicans in Missouri (the “Show Me” State) showed us what they're made of by attempting to kill the people's right to amend their state's constitution. Missouri and 25 other states have long provided a citizen-led initiative process so the people can propose and pass their own laws, rather than always depending on politicians to “do what's right.” Yes – it's direct democracy!But the people (damn them!) have been passing things like providing health care for the poor and raising the minimum wage. So, “No-no!” screeched Republican leaders and corporate lobbyists, who otherwise control the entire state government. In a perversion of people power, they wrote a ballot initiative that, effectively, would leave direct democracy “dead” in Missouri.Clever, huh? Use the initiative process to kill the initiative process.But the people rallied, exposed the fraud, and in a massive turnout of voters in last week's elections 80 percent – 80 percent! – rejected the establishment's anti-democracy ploy.Missourians showed ‘em – but anti-democracy elites are now pushing direct-voter bans in 15 other states, including Arizona, Florida, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Utah. History professor Rodney Wilson recently discovered that two purported “bathtubs” dug up in Farmington in the 1970s are not bathtubs at all, but rare (and massive) bronze planters from the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. An instructor of history and political science at Mineral Area College, Wilson embarked on his own investigation to trace how these artifacts went from sitting in the German Court of Honor in the fair's Palace of Varied Industries to an out-of-the-way antique store in Park Hills. Wilson also shares what he's learned about Gustav Lind, the man who created them.

Parents of young children know the reality — childcare can cost almost as much as a mortgage. By the time investigators uncovered the truth, they had found the bodies of five men buried on and around the property, and Ray and Faye, both in their seventies, became the oldest couple ever sentenced to death in the United States. Over the course of Donald Trump's second term, Democratic voters have expressed dissatisfaction with their party over what many view as an inability to stand up to the president and his broader movement. That dissatisfaction with the establishment has manifested in primaries in coastal cities across the country, where the progressive movement appears to be ascendant. On Tuesday, that test played out in Midwestern states, Michigan and Missouri.Within roughly two hours of polls closing, The Associated Press called the closely watched rematch between Cori Bush and Rep. Wesley Bell for the incumbent. In 2024, AIPAC and other outside groups spent more than $18 million to oust Bush from her Missouri district, and her defeat, along with New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman's, has served as a warning sign for Democrats not to be too progressive or too pro-Palestine.But by Wednesday morning, Abdul El-Sayed, who ran on Medicare for All and ending military aid to Israel for its continued genocide in Gaza, narrowly defeated Rep. Haley Stevens by less than 20,000 votes. According to AdImpact, the Michigan Democratic Senate primary saw $98 million in ad spending and reservations.
