868 · Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress: History, Debate & What's NextThe Carousel of Progress reimagining announcement sparked one of the most passionate Disney fan conversations in recent memory. Some fans are excited. Others are heartbroken. Many are somewhere in between. And all of it makes complete sense - because this attraction isn't just a show. For a lot of us, it's a memory. A person. A moment that lives somewhere deep. But before you land on how you feel, there's a story you need to hear. One that starts not with the announcement - but in the 1950s, with Walt Disney himself, and an idea that never made it off the drawing board. Because when you understand where Carousel of Progress actually came from, and how many times it has already changed, what Disney just announced looks like something very different. In Episode 868, we trace the complete history - from Edison Square to the 1964 World's Fair to every revision across six decades - and into every detail of what is coming in 2027. The new scenes. The Walt Disney animatronic. The off-planet finale drawn from John Hench's original concept art. The fan reaction breakdown. And the case, built on Walt's own words, for why the carousel moving again after 30 years might be exactly what he always intended.

We're recapping a packed Disney trip that took us from Blizzard Beach to EPCOT, from a one-night resort stay to Banana Ball, and finally to Disney's Animal Kingdom for breakfast, snacks, shopping, and Disney's new Bluey experience. We kick things off at Blizzard Beach, where we cool down with some water park fun, try a couple of sweet treats including the S'mores Churro, and even run into a listener along the way. From there, we head to EPCOT to check out the limited-time Annual Passholder Lounge inside Restaurant Marrakesh and share whether this summer perk is worth making time for. Next, we check into the Meliá Orlando Celebration for a one-night stay before heading to ESPN Wide World of Sports to experience Banana Ball. We'll discuss the atmosphere, entertainment, and whether this unique event lives up to the hype. On Saturday, we make our way to Disney's Animal Kingdom for breakfast at Satu'li Canteen, check out some new merchandise, sample snacks from Isle of Java and Pizzafari, and join the virtual queue for Disney's newest Bluey experience.  Along the way, we highlight our favorite moments, biggest surprises, best values, and the experiences we'd most recommend. Whether you're planning a Walt Disney World vacation or just love hearing about what's new around the parks, this episode is packed with reviews, tips, and plenty of Disney fun.

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to soar through the air above the streets of Adventureland as we head to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom to ride The Magic Carpets of Aladdin on this episode of Attraction Checklist.  Attraction audio recorded on June 6, 2024. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. I can show you the world.Shining, shimmering, splendid.  That's because on today's episode we're going to ride The Magic Carpets of Aladdin at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The Walt Disney World Website describes this attraction saying: Fly high over Adventureland on an enchanted carpet ride inspired by the Disney movie Aladdin. There are no height requirements for this attraction. Before we see a new fantastic point of view, here are five fast facts about The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. 1. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin opened at Magic Kingdom on Wednesday, May 23, 2001. 2.  While similar to Dumbo the Flying Elephant which we covered in Attraction Checklist Episode #164, each carpet  vehicle of The Magic Carpets of Aladdin can hold more than two riders. 3. The riders in the front of the magic carpet can control how high each carpet can soar into the air. 4. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin inspired two similar versions of the attraction in other Disney Parks.  Flying Carpets Over Agrabah in Disneyland Paris and Jasmine's Flying Carpets at the Tokyo Disney Resort. 5. The infamous spitting golden camels at the entrance to the attraction had a former life as part of a flat in the Aladdin's Royal Caravan Parade that ran from 1992 to 1995. Let's get in line and ride The Magic Carpets of Aladdin..  After the show I'll give you my thoughts on this classic attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we ride The Magic Carpets of Aladdin at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Disney is changing... and we have opinions. In this episode of Hangin' at the Hangar Bar, Scott and Candice take a break from trip planning and nostalgia to talk about some of the biggest changes happening across Walt Disney World. From major attraction overhauls to entirely new lands, Disney is investing billions into the future of the parks—but are they making the right decisions? Before we dive in, we start with an important correction regarding Star Tours and Star Wars Launch Bay, proving once again that we are always willing to admit when we get something wrong. Then we tackle some of the biggest topics currently shaping the future of Walt Disney World:• The massive Carousel of Progress refurbishment and why it has Disney fans divided• What a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic means for Disney's future storytelling• The transformation of Frontierland and the arrival of Cars-themed Piston Peak• Villains Land and whether Disney's biggest expansion in decades can live up to the hype• The end of Muppets Courtyard and the arrival of Monstropolis• Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring The Muppets and our first impressions of the reimagined attraction• Tropical Americas replacing DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney's Animal Kingdom• Indiana Jones, Encanto, Bluey, and the future identity of Animal Kingdom• Disney's growing focus on Walt Disney himself as part of the guest experience• Whether all of this construction is creating a new Disney Renaissance—or simply a lot of wallsAlong the way, we discuss what Disney is getting right, where we're still skeptical, and which projects have us the most excited for the future. What changes are you most excited about? Which ones make you nervous? Let us know on social media or in our Discord community. As always, thank you for hanging out with us at the Hangar Bar.Remember... there's always a great big beautiful tomorrow.

In the final installment of Imagineering May, Sent from Disneyland explores the stories behind two overlooked Disneyland designers whose names still appear on a Main Street window. A 1972 postcard featuring the Disneyland Railroad and Floral Mickey leads into the life of art director Wade R. Rubottom, whose work helped shape Main Street, U.S.A. before he went on to design other theme parks across America. Then, a 1974 Mark Twain postcard highlights the career of George Patrick, a Frontierland art director whose influence can still be felt throughout Disneyland's western landscapes. Along the way, we uncover vintage postcard messages, park attendance and weather from the day of each visit, and the fascinating history of Disneyland's early designers who worked alongside Walt Disney during the park's construction. The episode concludes with a surprise Postcrossing postcard featuring the Dutch scene from "it's a small world," a deep dive into late-1970s Disneyland postcard booklets, and a look back at a month celebrating the Imagineers, artists, and cast members who helped build Disneyland. We're putting two of Walt Disney World's most beloved Deluxe Resorts head-to-head as Disney's Yacht Club Resort takes on Disney's Beach Club Resort. These sister resorts may share Stormalong Bay and a prime Crescent Lake location, but they offer two very different vacation vibes — and we're breaking it all down to decide which one comes out on top. We compare Yacht Club's refined nautical elegance and quieter, more adult-leaning atmosphere against Beach Club's bright, beachy energy and family-friendly charm. From theming and room comfort to dining, transportation, recreation, and overall value, each resort battles it out round by round in classic Resort Wars fashion. We also discuss fan-favorite dining locations like Yachtsman Steakhouse, Ale & Compass, Cape May Cafe, and Beaches & Cream, plus the unbeatable walkability to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios that makes this resort area one of the best on property. If you're trying to decide which resort is best for your next Walt Disney World vacation — whether you're planning an adults-only getaway, family trip, festival weekend, or pool-focused staycation — this episode should help you decide which side of Crescent Lake deserves your vote.

On this day, 29 May 1941, animators for Disney in Los Angeles walked out on strike when 16 union cartoonists were fired for demanding union recognition, including Goofy creator Art Babbitt. Disney workers held a mass meeting the previous day where an assistant to Babbitt put forward a motion to strike, which was approved. On May 29, hundreds of men and women set up picket lines outside Disney studios and set up a protest camp in a field across the road. The majority of cartoonists, including non-union members, respected the strike. Warner Bros cartoonists also marched over to Disney at one point dressed as French revolutionaries from 1789. Union chefs from nearby restaurants also showed solidarity with the strike by cooking for pickets before and after work. One day rumours circulated that hired thugs were going to attack the strikers, so mechanics from Burbank airport armed themselves with wrenches and went to guard the strikers' camp.Walt Disney drove across the picket line every day, and on one occasion got out of his car to try to attack Babbitt. Eventually, after five weeks, the strike was settled by mediators who ruled in favour of the union on every issue, and the workers received pay increases of nearly 50% in many cases. Babbitt also won his job back following a lawsuit. Walt Disney was bitter about his defeat until he died (lol). More information, sources and map: https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/10122/disney-animators'-strikeOur work is only possible because of support from you, our listeners on patreon. 867 · Walt Disney World Just Got Major Upgrades - and This Summer Is the Best Time to VisitThis might quietly be one of the biggest overall summer upgrades Walt Disney World has had in years. Not because of one giant new land - but because every park, every age group, and nearly every type of guest got meaningful, real enhancements at the exact same time. After being invited by Disney to their Summer Fun Fest media event, Lou Mongello goes far beyond the headlines in WDW Radio Episode 867.At one point during the event, he sat in a room with Disney leadership - park operations, Imagineering, and the facility asset management team (the most important team at Walt Disney World that most guests have never heard of) - for a candid conversation about how Disney actually makes decisions, processes guest feedback, and thinks about the future of the parks. That context changes everything that comes after it.Buzz Lightyear. Big Thunder Mountain. The Muppets. Mandalorian and Grogu. Bluey. Every park, something real - and a full conversation with a Walt Disney Imagineering Story Lead about how Disney decides what to change, what to keep, and why it all matters.Plus: why the connection between films, streaming, and parks is stronger than it has ever been. And why now - right now - is the best time to visit Walt Disney World in 2026.

We also discuss the current pricing, which comes in at $64 per adult and $44 per child (ages 3–9), plus tax and gratuity, and whether we think it's worth paying full price. Luckily, we were able to take advantage of the current 40% off Annual Passholder dining discount, which definitely impacted the overall value conversation. Disney fans rejoice! This year marks the 100th anniversary of The Carthay Circle Theatre, which is well known for hosting the premiere of the first ever animated feature film, Walt Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". But did you know that Walt's history with the Carthay Circle Theatre started before then and continued after? Joining me on this episode is Marc Wanamaker, the founder of Bison Archives, where he preserves and documents the history of Hollywood, show business, and much more. He personally experienced going to movies at the Carthay Circle Theatre as a child and witnessed its destruction. Listen as we discuss the Carthay Circle Theatre's history, Walt Disney's connections to it, and how the Disney theme parks pay honor to the theatre today from coast to coast. That and so much more is coming your way on this episode of Dizney Coast to Coast. ------ EPISODE LINKS: Bison Archives Hollywood's Chinese Theatre Compared to Disney's Recreation (podcast episode) ------ GIVEAWAYS, BONUSES AND SUPPORT: Gain early access to episodes, take part in live streams, and gain more bonuses by joining DCTC on Patreon. Episode 4016: Steve Pavlina reframes failure as an unavoidable and even valuable part of pursuing meaningful goals, using Disneyland's disastrous opening day as proof that spectacular setbacks don't have to destroy a bigger vision. By exploring J.K. Rowling's fear of failure alongside Walt Disney's persistence, he shows how resilience, adaptation, and long-term thinking can turn embarrassment and mistakes into momentum for growth. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2020/06/your-relationship-with-failure/ Quotes to ponder: "Fear of failure is the saddest reason on earth not to do what you were meant to do." "Ultimately, wouldn't you rather be the person who actually finished the project you're dreaming about, rather than the one who talks about ‘always having wanted to'?" "Don't equate the failure of your projects with the death of your long-term goal." Episode references: J.K.
