We're on the precipice of Avengers: Doomsday this December and still don't know much about the plot, but that doesn't mean we're not ready to speculate! The MCU continues to pile on record-breaking stats, with the Avengers: Endgame Encore trailer garnering 77 million views within the first 24-hours of its release. This shatters any previously held record for a re-released film trailer; that number is more than four times any other amount. Spider-Man: Brand New Day took the number one spot at the box office again this weekend and has passed Avengers: Endgame to become the second highest grossing domestic film of all time. At number two, Ketchup Entertainment's theatrical rescue of Warner Bros Animation's Coyote vs. Acme hit its forecast with a very solid $15.4 million opening. 20th Century Studios' Ridley Scott dystopian future Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin movie, Dog Stars, had a low $8 million opening off a $70 million production cost. Casper Kelly's horror comedy Buddy took the number six spot at the domestic box office with $5.36 million, a solid start for a film that was released on less than 1,800 total screens.In an interview with The L.A. Times, Ridley Scott confirmed that there is a sequel to 2017's Alien: Covenant in active development. He said the film “will pick up with David (Fassbender) creating a ‘brave new world for himself." Tim Curry who rose to fame in Hollywood for his iconic roles in It, Clue, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show has passed away at the age of 80. Anne Hathaway has joined the cast of Days of Thunder 2 at Paramount alongside returning star Tom Cruise. Paramount has also announced that the film will be released June 2, 2028. HBO Max released the first full trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The series will premiere over Christmas.Showrunner Tom King confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role of Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the DCU for the upcoming animated Mister Miracle series.Netflix has released the first trailer for East of Eden, Zoe Kazan's adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel that stars Florence Pugh. The limited series is seven episodes long and will begin streaming on October 1.

Another year in the books, which means it is time for our annual Wrap Up, where we not only go through our personal favorites of the year, but also some other standout films, as well as some others that came out in the last 12 months. For the second year in a row, it is astounding at some of the high quality pictures that have been getting released. Eight years after producer Robert Rodriguez had Adrien Brody went and fought the Predator -and Predator dogs, and bigger Predators, and Lawrence Fishburne- original Predator co-star Shane Black decided to take the reigns and see if he could make something a little more universally successful. The result, 2018's The Predator. Yet, once again, 20th Century Fox stepped in and decided to make life a living hell for all involved. Scenes were switched, a friend of Black's had a small scene cut due to Olivia Munn finding out the other man in the scene -who was also a friend of Black's- had a checkered past. And the ending ended up getting completely reworked. So what do Garrett, Matt, and Adam have to say? This, was the podcast Matt and Garrett had been looking forward to since they started this series due to Adam once again having reservations to watching a movie in a franchise again due to an utter hatred for the film. It happened with Alien Covenant. Yet, unlike that 2017 film, Adam hadn't finished watching The Predator until this viewing. Did he warm up to it? Well, let's just say this is one of those podcasts where Garrett and Matt just kind of stand back and let Adam go. The Halloween Hustle begins and before Anita runs off, we had to get one more Alien film in, especially since this is a direct sequel to Prometheus. They weren't really fans of that film but this one actually has Xenomorphs and some decent kills, so I think it'll fare better. Chris and I also try and figure out our favorite and least favorite horror games, Brent is confused by In Vitro Fertilization and Anita has thoughts about Alien: Earth. In Episode 160 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, the Horror Avengers return for their weekly installment of ALIEN: EARTH (2025) with a review of Episode 006: “The Fly.” Due to some last-minute cancellations, Jay of the Dead is joined by Mackula (and later, Dr. Walking Dead), as well as the ever-colorful Kombat Karl “The Mad Irishman” from Movie Podcast Weekly fame. Sadly, GregaMortis could not join us this week, but he will return next time. Warning: Major plot spoilers lie ahead! And yes, it wouldn't be Alien Earth without strange metaphors and offbeat alien lore. Dr. Bishop interprets the fly-and-spider imagery as a nod to the show's silicon-based “metal-eating” monstrosities, while the hosts debate the uneven maturing patterns of the synthetic children. Is Wendy / Marcy's accelerated intellect genius writing or sloppy scripting? Jurassic Park comparisons bubble up, and Jay predicts that these hybrid kids may be every bit as dangerous — maybe even more so — than the five xenomorphs themselves! Speaking of xenomorphs, your hosts address the terminology of “face-hugger” in the “Alien” franchise and dissect face-hugger gestation with how it lines up with what we've seen in the “Alien: Romulus” timeline. This leads to a discussion of “Alien: Covenant's” bio-engineered variants, host-dependent gestation windows, and whether Alien Earth is bending rules of the franchise. The gang is all back this week and they discuss Alien: Earth, The Naked Gun, Weapons, Gilda & Gene, a boatload of trailers, and so many tangents! This episode kicks off a little earlier than usual, so the gang's pre-show conversation about a few trailers doesn't end up on the cutting room floor. After that, they jump into the new FX series, Alien: Earth. It's set in the years between Alien: Covenant and the original Alien film. If you are a masochist and enjoy hearing Kevin talk, then this is the segment for you. That guy doesn't shut up! The fool actually watched every single Alien film (sans the AvP films) in preparation for this episode, and it shows. Thankfully, Andrew was paying attention and didn't let them leave Lauren out to dry! When Kevin finally cedes the floor, the baton is passed to Lauren, who watched the recent rekindling of The Naked Gun films, starring Liam Neeson. The story is a continuation rather than a full reboot, as Liam's character is the son of the original Frank Dreben. The film manages to keep much of the same humor that made the original films successful and is definitely worth a watch if you enjoyed those. Andrew got a chance to get to the theater this week to see Weapons, so the gang is able to dive a little deeper into the film, though they manage to stay relatively spoiler free, still. The discussion digs deeper into some of the overarching themes of the film and clarifies the title. They also vaguely discuss the villain of the film and whether or not they were even more than they seemed. Again, this one is a strong recommendation from the guys. Next up, Lauren takes the mic to discuss the off-Broadway show, Gene & Gilda. It's a fictional account of an interview with Gene Wilder where he discusses his magical and heartbreaking relationship with Gilda Radner. The two met on set and their chemistry was magical. This is a beautiful story and is running through September, so if you are in the NYC area, definitely give it a shot. Not only is it well told, but the actors are brilliantly cast! The gang finishes out the show where they began, discussing trailers and what's to come for the rest of 2025, which is a surprising amount of quality films.
