Nicole O'Byrne talks to John Andrew Morrow about his book, The Legacy of Louis Riel: Leader of the Métis People. Based on a comprehensive review of Riel's writing, Morrow uncompromisingly examines Riel's views on vital subjects. These include the term Métis, Métis identity, “Indians,” Jews, Islam, Quebec, French Canadians, the Irish, the United States, women, liberalism, and Métis unity. Riel's views might rankle readers today. Without toning them down, the author establishes nonetheless the intellectual and political environment in which they developed. The relevant and timely topics addressed, some of which have been sidelined or entirely ignored, will surelyspark debate. It is hoped that this study will increase our understanding of Louis Riel, his thought, and his writings, and help create greater cohesion among Métis communities throughout North America. John Andrew Morrow was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He completed his Honors BA, MA, and PhD at the University of Toronto where he focused his research on Francophone, Hispanic, Islamic, and Indigenous Studies. He wrote his MA thesis on César Vallejo's aboriginal worldview and completed his doctoral dissertation on the indigenous presence and influence in the poetry of two of Nicaragua's national poets. Dr. Morrow has taught for universities around the world and rose to the rank of Full Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature. During his tenure as a professor, he received a Student Impact Award, was certified as a Master Teacher, and was recognized as a Distinguished Faculty Member. He has published many academic articles and scholarly books, including the Amazon bestseller The Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World, which earned him an Interfaith Leadership Award. He resides in rural Indiana. Image Credit: Baraka Books If you like our work, please consider supporting it: bit.ly/support_WTY. In this episode Steve and Andrzej discuss:Resilience and mindset Cybersecurity is all about behavior Cyberdefense is everyone's responsibility Supporting an increasingly better version of you Key Takeaways: The journey towards success is one that is filled with a lot of difficulty. Which is why you'll need a strong mindset that is built up out of resilience. It might surprise you that most conversations about cybersecurity are not about technology, but about behavior. Most security breaches are not caused by cyber insecure technologies, but cyber insecure behaviors. Cyber defense isn't only the tech department's responsibility, it's the responsibility of every member in the organization. Every member is a potential breach, so it's important that everyone is in the same page. If you are an entrepreneur, you have to be an optimist. Business is not for the faint of heart. You also have to have a routine that supports an increasingly better version of you everyday. “The weather outside doesn't matter, it's what your weather inside you is and how you look at every single thing.” - Andrzej Cetnarski Connect with Andrzej Cetnarski:Twitter: https://twitter.com/ACetnarskiWebsite: https://cybernationcentral.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrzejcetnarski/Email: enquiry@cybernationcentral.com Connect with Steve and Jason:LinkedIn: Jason or SteveWebsite: Rewire, Inc.: Transformed Thinking Email: grow@rewireinc.com Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. “I believe all of us have stories to share and that by sharing our experiences, we connect in our humanity.” Maria Koropecky Once in a while, people experience situations where they feel stuck and are unable to move forward in their lives. When this happens, people set out to look for ways in which they can overcome the blocks and one artistic solution to explore is to seek clarity through crystal mapping. This ancient practice which involves deep and interactive conversations is especially recommended for introverts who have a difficult time getting their thoughts and energies aligned towards the direction they desire to go. Our guest today, Maria Koropecky, is very familiar with crystal mapping and uses her expertise to help people get in touch with their inner selves. Maria Koropecky runs a creative writing coaching business that is geared towards the quieter creatives amongst us, helping them to get their ideas flowing and overcome writer's block. Her vision is to help budding authors write books of influence, by encouraging them to have a crystal-clear vision and smash through any roadblocks that stand between them and success. Maria helps her clients, either in one-on-one or in group sessions, to tap into the energy of colors, chakras and crystals, so they can find their voice, shine their light and share their gifts. She understands the immense power of crystals and gemstones and has used her knowledge of them to create a unique approach to coaching called Crystal Mapping. Her work seeks to help people figure out where they are in life and where they would like to go next by drawing on the wisdom of crystals. Alongside her Crystal Mapping Sessions and Write From The Heart coaching program, Maria is also an up-and-coming novelist writing from Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. Her forthcoming novel, Who is Donna Tiva? which will be the first in a three-part series, was inspired during her solo backpacking trip across Spain at 50, and it follows the journey of a single woman as she searches for love, her life being lit up and guided by the colorful characters she meets along the way. She also has a wealth of qualifications that inform what she does, ranging from an Honors BA in English Literature to certifications in Life Coaching & Mentoring, to Spa Therapy as well as Crystal Reading In today's episode, we will be learning about the art of using crystals to draw into the inner creativity and beauty that resides within introverts and have them express it more confidently through writing. Listen in! Social media handles https://www.ammolitewellnesscoaching.com/ https://LinkedIn.com/in/MariaKoopecky/ I believe all of us have stories to share and that by sharing our experiences, we connect in our humanity. [4:26] I want to encourage people to draw on their own life experiences and just put it out there. [4:43] For me, it is a very creative and healing process for people to use their voices to express themselves and make a change, and be empowered. [4:56] Introverts tend to keep it inside and it can be very lonely and so for introverts to be able to say out loud and express their feelings may not be easy. [5:57] Crystal mapping is a heart-to-heart conversation that helps people figure out where they are and where they would like to go next using the wisdom of crystals. [7:26] Crystals to me are metaphors for the universe which is very creative and dynamic. [7:36] All crystals have their own stories, history, names, elements, and colors and they are all forged together by time, pressure, and heat. [7:50] If they can go through this process of transformation and transcendence, then that means that we can as humans beings also. [8:19] And so I draw on their inspiration and energy to encourage people to look around them and see the beauty of nature. [8:31] What I love about nature is that it connects these dots that don't seem related and it is the pace in between that is the magic. [11:20] I help people come alive by expressing themselves and talking about what they want to create and that is always my joy. [13:10] I coach people on opening their creative channels and being available to spiritual download through intuition and if there is anything on the way, you become aware of and clear it out. [14:47] I am a very auditory person and to me when I write it has to sound right and it has to have a certain rhythm on to it. [16:17] To me, writing is a craft and I have to put words together and choose the right words with the right beats and it is not linear. [16:40] Commercial break [17:33] I grew up in an artistic family where my mother is very creative and has a very good eye and both my brother and I are artists by nature. [19:51] I found that art is healing for both the artist and the audience. [20:16] That to me is why art is so important because it allows us to get in touch with the deeper parts of ourselves. [21:18] I designed a crystal map and picked forty-four crystals that people pick from when we are having a conversation and fold them back into the conversation. [22:08] They are very affirming and very positive and it is amazing the synchronicity that happens between the crystals that a person chooses and what they are talking about. [22:46] Ammolite is the most amazing crystal because it is both a fossil and a crystal at the same time. [25:57] If you have an interest in anything, explore it. Go into the world and uncover what is available. [27:37] …………………………………………………………………………………… Thank You to our August Sponsor! Tired of the time and expense to get a manicure or pedicure? Rebecca Snow and Steve Gamester and Face2Face host David Peck talk about their new film Cheating Hitler: Surviving The Holocaust, survivors guilt, meaningful history and the power of memory, pivotal moments in personal stories and why we never should forget. Trailer You can watch the film here. Synopsis: Rose, Maxwell and Helen were 10, 9 and 7 years old when the Second World War began. Robbed of their childhood, they were old before they were young. They endured the terror of forced labour, killing squads and concentration camps. After the war, they discovered their families had been decimated, that their homes were reduced to rubble, and their possessions lost or stolen. Now, 75 years after the war ended, these three survivors are looking for answers to deeply personal questions they’ve carried with them their entire lives. Cheating Hitler is a modern-day investigation into lingering mysteries from the Holocaust. Three survivors and family members travel to Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania exploring some of the hidden and rarely visited sites where the Holocaust occurred. They consult with historians, genealogists and forensic experts and uncover new life-changing information. Children have always been central to the story of the Holocaust. The most recognized victim, Anne Frank, was a child. And yet, for decades, the testimony of most child survivors was overlooked. Some felt overshadowed by the experiences of their elders, too traumatized to share their memories, or felt guilt for surviving and living long lives. This film focuses entirely on the unique experiences of children survivors, now in their final years, and often telling stories and revealing secrets on camera for the first time. Their testimony provides a powerful warning from history and a last chance to solve lingering mysteries. Cheating Hitler is about one of the darkest chapters of human history, but what shines through are stories of resilience, bravery and survival. About Brandi: Brandi Joi Collier was born June 23, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the third and youngest child of her mother’s children and her father’s first born. From the day one she was not born into love but rather a place of hate. Her parents were in a toxic relationship which ended due lack of trust and infidelity. This negativity followed her from childhood to her adulthood, she never had a healthy relationship with none of the men in her immediate family except for her grandfather the late Joseph R. Kadle. It was hard for Brandi to see men in a positive light due to the destructive patterns she was forced to deal with. She thought all men leave their children because that were not good enough. And their dads had to find other families to take care of because God gave them a bad batch of children. Brandi kept this horrible vision in her head as her father, brothers, and biological father of her daughter had done so. For years of her life she had lost hope in finding and having her own family to love her. And having her dream career of being a journalist ever coming a reality. But Brandi still kept on writing letters to herself, poetry, and essays as a way of escape from negative and abusive home life. She would spend many years of her life searching for the right career and many jobs that did not fit her because writing kept calling her name. She had even more obstacles placed in front of her when her only child was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder before her fifth birthday. Fast forward to June 2016 Brandi’s daughter Ameerah graduated from high school and the next month after that she got married to the man of her dreams, Gregory C. Collier Jr. They have been happily married for two years now. Also, in 2018 Brandi re-released her first fiction book “No! I’m just protected” and on September 20th the sequel “Of God and Justice” in eBook format with be released. The print released date will be announced later. Why do the powers that be try to convince us that there is a “clash of cultures” or a conflict between Islam and the West or between Islam and Christianity? To answer that, Dr. John Andrew Morrow discusses his book, The Covenants of the Prophet Muhammad with the Christians of the World. We learn that Christianity and Islam co-existed peacefully with full protections for Christians for 1400 years. These covenants “uniformly state that Muslims are not to attack peaceful Christian communities, rob them, stop churches from being repaired, tear down churches to build mosques, prevent their Christian wives from going to church and taking spiritual direction from Christian priests and elders, etc. On the contrary, the Prophet commands Muslims to actively protect these communities ‘until the End of the World’.” In this informative conversation we learn about the rise of European Colonialism and its handmaiden, Islamic Fundamentalism (now funded and supported by the U.S., the Saudis, and Israel) and the role of these modern powers in smearing Islam and framing Muslims as “terrorists” for geopolitical interests. Dr. Morrow invites us to wake up and learn our history. Find his writings on his website, John Andrew Morrow, and learn more about these historic covenants at Covenants of the Prophet. Dr. John Andrew Morrow was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1971. Raised in a multilingual family, he lived in Montreal for ten years and in the Greater Toronto Area for another twenty. The product of a Catholic education, he completed his elementary school in French, his high school in English, and his university studies in English, French, and Spanish. He embraced Islam at the age of 16 after which he adopted the name Ilyas ‘Abd al-‘Alim Islam. After completing his Honors BA, MA, and PhD at the University of Toronto, where he acquired expertise in Hispanic, Native, and Islamic Studies, he pursued post-graduate studies in Arabic in Morocco and the United States. Besides his Western education, Dr. Morrow has completed the full cycle of traditional Islamic seminary studies both independently and at the hands of a series of Sunni, Shi’i, and Sufi scholars. Not only is he a senior scholar, academic, and professor, he is also a respected ‘alim holding the titles of ustadh, duktur, hakim, and shaykh. Dr. Morrow has spent over a decade and a half in the United States working at various universities including Park University, Northern State University, Eastern New Mexico University, the University of Virginia, and Ivy Tech where he was unanimously appointed to the rank of Full Professor. One of his most noteworthy and memorable experiences involved working as a professor of advanced Spanish, Islamic culture, and world literature for the Institute for Shipboard Education’s Semester at Sea Program. Aside from his academic duties, Dr. John Andrew Morrow is the Director of the Covenants Foundation, an organization dedicated to disseminating traditional, civilizational, Islam; promoting Islamic unity; protecting persecuted Christians; and improving relations between Muslims and members of other faiths. He regularly travels the world to promote peace and justice. Dr. John Andrew Morrow is a Native North American and a proud member of the Metis Nation.
