They say he watches from the shadows, always wearing a hat — but the Hat Man isn't just another shadow person… he's something far more terrifying.EPISODE BLOG PAGE (includes sources): https://weirddarkness.com/DemonicHatManREAD or DOWNLOAD the full transcript of this episode: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/3xfr8h77FEATURED STORIES IN THIS EPISODE: Unlike most shadow people figures, the Hat Man - this tall, dark being often appears during times of emotional turmoil. With accounts from all over the world, questions continue to be asked about his origin – is he supernatural? Interdimensional? Just our imagination? Demonic… or extraterrestrial? What is the Hat Man – and what are his motives? (The Night Terror That is The Hat Man) *** He was a charismatic activist and local celebrity who counted the elite of Philadelphia among his friends. But behind closed doors, Ira Einhorn's relationship with his girlfriend Holly Maddux was fraught with abuse, control, and ultimately, murder. The shocking discovery of Holly's body in a trunk in Einhorn's apartment was only the beginning of the hunt for the man they'd eventually call “The Unicorn Killer.” (Holly Maddux And The Unicorn Killer) *** On May 1, 1897, Louisa Luetgert, the wife of a prominent Chicago sausage-maker, mysteriously vanished. The last sighting of her was with her husband, Adolph, as they walked into his sausage factory. This chilling disappearance not only shocked the city but also caused a notable decline in sausage sales that summer. Gee, I wonder why. (The Sausage Maker And His Wife) *** Centuries of worship and tragedy have left behind more than just memories in some churches… they've also left behind spirits, some holy… some not. From ghostly priests and weeping brides to mysterious mists and phantom lights, there are hauntings that linger in these ancient sanctuaries. What eerie tales are hidden within the walls of the world's oldest… and most haunted… churches? (Attending Church Eternally As A Ghost) *** In June 2006, Gilbert Gilman vanished without a trace during a short walk in Olympic National Park. Despite an extensive search and numerous theories, no evidence of his fate has ever been found. Was he a victim of foul play, or did he choose to disappear? Settle into the early morning hours of Saturday, November 23, 1963, at the corner of Jackson and Field Streets in downtown Dallas. Outside the exit of Simon's Garage, off-duty patrolman Harry Olsen and Carousel Club stripper Kathy Kay run into Jack Ruby, culminating in an intense, highly suspicious meeting in the dark that lasted for over an hour. In this episode, we reconstruct this crucial parking lot caucus and explore the conflicting testimonies of how it began—was it a chance street collision, or was Jack walking toward a specific, pre-planned destination? We trace the dramatic aftermath of this meeting, detailing Olsen's rapid discharge from the Dallas Police Department just five weeks after the assassination, his immediate marriage to Kathy Kay, and their sudden move to California with no forwarding address. Under FBI questioning, Olsen claimed a total and convenient case of amnesia, swearing his intense grief over President Kennedy's death had completely erased his memory of that hour-long caucus with the future assassin. We also cover defense attorney Melvin Belli's frantic, public attempts to locate the vanished couple to testify during Jack's high-stakes murder trial, only to hit a complete brick wall. Most chillingly, we examine Jack's bizarre, jailhouse psychiatric evaluations conducted by Dr. Lewis Jolyon "Jolly" West. Behind West's respectable academic title lay a secret history as a prominent contractor for the CIA's top-secret mind-control program, MK Ultra. We dissect how West extracted a garbled confession from Ruby in his cell—where an officer allegedly prompted him to kill Oswald and spare the state of Texas and the Kennedy family further grief—before West abruptly declared Ruby permanently insane. This diagnosis, delivered just weeks before Chief Justice Earl Warren was scheduled to take Ruby's testimony, effectively poisoned the well and ensured that anything Ruby babbled would be written off as the delusions of a madman. Finally, we set the stage for Jack's sleepless Saturday morning, looking ahead to his sunrise mission with a Polaroid camera to photograph the controversial "Impeach Earl Warren" billboard and his mysterious phone calls to associates of Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana.

David Booth is the founder and chairman of Dimensional Fund Advisors, one of the most influential investment firms in the world, managing more than $1 trillion in assets. Earlier in his career, David helped develop one of the world's first index funds and spent decades applying academic financial research—including ideas developed by his mentor, Nobel laureate Eugene Fama—to real-world investing. David is also a proud University of Kansas alum, earning degrees in economics and business from KU before earning his MBA from the University of Chicago. And his philanthropy has been extraordinary: the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business bears his name, as does David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. In 2010, David and his wife Suzanne purchased James Naismith's original rules of basketball for $4.3 million and brought them home to KU—the story featured in my favorite documentary of all time ESPN's 30 for 30: There's No Place Like Home. In 2025, David made an additional $300 million gift to Kansas Athletics, continuing his remarkable support of KU. And most recently David wrote a book titled, Stay Calm: Learn to Embrace Uncertainty in Investing and Life. In this episode we discuss the following: When David found $15,000 in cash in his late parents' safe-deposit box, he wondered what it might have become had they invested it in the public markets instead. He calculated that if his father had invested the money after returning from World War II and simply earned the market return, it would have grown to more than $1 million over the next 40 years. That's the magic of compounding, and I love David's bigger point that our lives compound as well, from the things we learn, to the decisions we make, and the relationships we build. I love David's explanation for why he's optimistic about markets: people want to make their lives better. When something goes wrong, people adapt. They solve problems. They invent things. Companies find new ways to serve customers. And over time, that human ingenuity gets reflected in the market. As a stressed-out PhD student at the University of Chicago, David visited his grandparents, who lived in a tiny home that didn't even have indoor plumbing. Yet he looked around at his family laughing and enjoying themselves and thought: Maybe they've figured out something about life that I haven't. That realization helped him choose the career path that fit what he actually valued. Invest early, stay invested, and make sure you're invested in the right things.

Munaf Manji talks weekend action in the sports betting world. Munaf Manji opens a new season of the weekend rewind show solo on the Straight Outta Vegas AM feed, laying out the plan for a full week of football content, this rewind episode on Mondays once Uncle Dave joins him, a college football pod, a Wednesday preview show, a Thursday prop show with Sleepy, and a Friday picks show built on the injury report. At 2:47 he closes the book on preseason betting trends, underdogs went 23 and 9 and 1 against the spread through the first two weeks, a 72 percent clip, with road dogs posting a 42 and 1 mark, numbers worth watching into Week One. The headline news arrives at 5:04, Aaron Donald is officially coming out of retirement to rejoin the Los Angeles Rams on a one year deal worth twenty million dollars, with playoff incentives pushing the total as high as thirty million. Donald joins a front that already added Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade with Cleveland, and Munaf breaks down how dominant that pairing could become, while expecting Donald's snap count to build gradually as he shakes off the rust. At 7:51 the Rams sit at five to one to win the Super Bowl on DraftKings with no other team shorter than ten to one, and Munaf cites a Yahoo Sports stat that teams which opened as favorites at plus 500 or better have gone zero for 20 all time, asking whether this roster could break that trend. At 9:08 he adds the Trent McDuffie trade from Kansas City and a look at how a stronger defense could shift Los Angeles toward lower scoring games built around Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and Kyren Williams. At 11:41 the show turns to a more serious story, Green Bay running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List ahead of a court appearance on November 17, with Munaf estimating a possible suspension in the four to six game range. At 12:48 he connects that news to the Packers trading for running back Kaleb Johnson from the Steelers, a move he reads as Green Bay preparing for time without Jacobs and potentially leaning more on Jordan Love. From 14:20 onward, the show becomes a rapid tour of final roster cuts, Trevon Diggs released by Seattle but likely practice squad bound, Anthony Richardson and J.J. McCarthy surviving their initial rosters, and Titans wide receiver Xavier Restrepo earning a fantasy shoutout behind Calvin Ridley and rookie Carnell Tate. At 16:07 the Giants keep Darius Slayton and Odell Beckham Jr. while moving on from Jalin Hyatt, with Beckham's comments about bringing a championship back to New York getting a mention. At 16:53 Cleveland's quarterback carousel takes center stage, Dillon Gabriel making the roster, Deshaun Watson holding the starting job, Shedeur Sanders waiting in the wings, and Taylen Green turning heads late. At 17:53 he runs through players opening the year on injured reserve or the PUP list, Micah Parsons, James Conner, Isaac Guerendo, and Kerby Joseph among them, along with the release of Titans quarterback Will Levis. At 19:59, Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III has been cleared by head coach Ben Johnson and is expected ready for Week One despite a groin injury. After a mention of his appearance on RJ Bell's Dream Preview podcast at 21:31, Munaf lands on his best bet of the show. At 23:02 he builds the pick around a quote from Ben Johnson, who said this offseason he wants Chicago to be the highest scoring offense in NFL history, a comment Munaf says grabbed his attention given what Johnson built previously with Jared Goff in Detroit. At 24:20 he lands on Caleb Williams' season long passing yards prop, the number sitting at 3,649.5 on DraftKings but a better line at 3,600.5 on BetMGM. Williams threw for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in year one under Johnson while playing all 17 games in each of his first two seasons, and Munaf likes him to clear the number in a more explosive year two offense. The episode closes with a look ahead to next week, when Uncle Dave joins Munaf for the first full regular season show, previewing the opener including the Super Bowl rematch and the international matchup between the 49ers and Rams in Australia, ahead of the Friday picks show heading into Week One. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Monday!! So.. we (Alex & Jules) found ourselves in some heat over our video games after kids take from Friday, so we had to get a guy's POV.. and you guys? He may have even HOTTER takes. Turns out Harrison was a GAMER gamer back in the day (18-hour Grand Theft Auto Sundays.. we have questions), but as a dad he has rules: there are more productive ways to decompress, never let it eat family time, and play when everyone's asleep. Then Jules asks the question that will surely put us back in the comments: are video games just Cocomelon for adults?! But before ALL that: it's officially HYROX race week for the dads (we're heading to DC later this week!) We settle the great seasonal debate: when does summer ACTUALLY end? Alex says Labor Day, Harrison says September 21st because "the sun does not lie." Plus Saturn Return (why your life flips upside down between 26 and 29.. planets, maybe!) and Tinx's 3-articles-a-day challenge. We're in. On the home front: Tate had her first gymnastics class

From Ferris's determination to make the day count to Cameron learning to confront his fear, the film offers a reminder that growing up sometimes means taking a chance, finding your people and accepting that life can still be meaningful when it goes off script. For a neurodivergent brain that loves schedules and certainty, perhaps Ferris has something particularly useful to teach us: leave a little room for the unexpected.Follow Cece:

Long before Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly had names, they had mugshots. In 1924, Chicago tabloids were consumed by Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner, two unrelated women tried for murder and both acquitted; largely because all-male juries of the era were reluctant to convict an attractive woman. Covering both trials was Chicago Tribune reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, whose ironic dispatches later became a satirical play that folded the two cases into one fictional cell block.Watkins's 1926 play was a hit, and decades later, Gwen Verdon brought the play to her husband, Bob Fosse, who conceived the 1975 stage musical Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville, staging each number as a self-contained old-timey act commenting on the courtroom drama around it.By the time Miramax greenlit a film version of Chicago, the movie musical had been functionally extinct as a mainstream genre for years. Director Rob Marshall's dual-reality structure: staging musical numbers as Roxie's fantasy of vaudeville stardom rather than characters spontaneously singing in "real" Chicago, was a hedge against the exact audience resistance that had killed the genre in the '80s and '90s.Chicago's satire targets trial-by-tabloid and fame built on notoriety; themes that land as prescient. But the film's own star wattage, the Miramax marketing juggernaut and the sheer fun of it, arguably succeeds by being the very thing it's satirizing.Support Verbal DioramaLoved this episode? Your studio is growing. So why does success suddenly feel so heavy? In this episode of the Transform My Dance Studio Podcast, Katie Wilber sits down with Shannon Westveer, Professional Speaker, Founder & CEO of The Switch Finance & Studio Solutions, and DSOA Inner Circle Studio Growth Coach, to walk through the evolution of a dance studio owner—from opening the doors on day one to stepping into the role of a confident CEO. Having co-owned and grown a Chicago dance studio to $1.7 million in revenue, Shannon knows firsthand what happens when every decision, task, and responsibility runs through the owner. She shares why growth requires more than working harder—and why delegation, financial clarity, intentional team building, and strong systems need to become part of your business before burnout forces them to. Together, Katie and Shannon explore the shift from operator to CEO: identifying what truly belongs on your plate, creating roles around the work you can delegate, training your team to take real ownership, and using your numbers to make confident decisions about hiring, growth, and even paying yourself more. Whether you're opening your first studio or realizing the business you've built depends far too heavily on you, this conversation offers a roadmap for building a studio that can grow with you—not just because of you. What You'll Learn: Why "the owner is the system" in so many growing dance studios How to identify what only you can do—and what should be delegated The mindset shift from studio operator to studio CEO Why delegation starts with clearly defined roles and expectations How proper training builds trust and gives team members autonomy Why taking time to train now can create a much bigger payoff later How financial clarity helps you make better hiring and growth decisions Why knowing your numbers can make it easier to confidently pay yourself more The three things Shannon believes studio owners should build into their businesses from day one Why your three-year vision, financial plan, and brand identity should guide your decisions What to remember when studio ownership feels overwhelming Shannon Westveer is a Professional Speaker, Founder & CEO of The Switch Finance & Studio Solutions, and a Studio Growth Coach inside the DSOA Inner Circle. 90 minutes of trip-hop and electronica, as the elusive SUED founder walks down memory lane. Everything is cyclical. Stick around long enough and what was new and thrilling, then gauche, comes back around, rediscovered by a generation seeing it with fresh eyes. The trip-hop revival of the 2020s is a neat example. But what does it sound like coming from someone who was there the first time? SW., AKA Stefan Wust, has an answer. The producer co-founded SUED in 2011 with SVN, a label whose hypnotic, stripped-back records arrived untitled and unannounced, and disappeared from Hard Wax just as quietly. For his RA Mix, he reaches back to those formative years, digging through trip-hop, breakbeat and electronica. Famously elusive, he explains in a rare Q&A below that the mix isn't a historical reconstruction but "an attempt to bring that memory back to life through my perspective today." Built from loops, delay and hard cuts, RA.1054 reassembles the music of his youth rather than filing it away. His Reminder series did the same for Detroit and Chicago; this goes somewhere he never has, to the trip-hop and downtempo end of the same decade. An excerpt of Rachmaninov's Liturgy of St John Chrysostom sets church-like choral vocals against decaying electronics from Twine and Gridlock, and of course it wouldn't be trip-hop without Tricky. Welcome to another episode of LIFTS, where we explore the future of fitness, wellness and human performance. In this episode, hosts Matthew Januszek and Mohammed Iqbal are joined by Tony Small, co-founder of Replify, Richard Earney, National Wellness Director at Midtown Athletic, and Mason Levey, co-founder of Y7 Studio, for a special round table recorded live at an exclusive VIP dinner in Chicago, brought together in partnership with ABC Fitness. The fitness consumer is changing. From AI and GLP-1s to wellness, longevity, social media and shifting demographics, the expectations people have of fitness businesses are evolving quickly. The panel explores how younger generations are engaging with fitness differently and whether gyms, studios and health clubs are becoming important spaces for real-world connection. With ABC Fitness data showing Gen Z and Millennials joining and using fitness facilities at higher rates, what does the next generation of members actually want from the industry? They also discuss the growing convergence of fitness, health and wellness, including the impact of GLP-1s and whether fitness businesses should broaden the services they offer or remain focused on their core areas of expertise. The conversation then turns to AI and how technology could help operators deliver more personalised experiences. Rather than using technology primarily to acquire new members, could AI help businesses understand individuals better, communicate with them at the right time and ultimately help create stronger fitness habits? Ultimately, as consumers become more informed, more connected and more demanding, the question is whether the fitness industry can evolve quickly enough to keep pace. In this episode, we cover: How the fitness consumer is changing Why younger generations are engaging with fitness differently Whether fitness is becoming a new kind of social space GLP-1s and the convergence of fitness, health and wellness Whether fitness businesses should expand beyond their core offering Why how exercise makes people feel could become more important How AI could transform the member experience The move from mass communication towards personalisation How technology could help operators build stronger fitness habits Why human connection remains critical as technology evolves Find out more about ABC Fitness - https://abcfitness.com  Support fitness industry news by sponsoring future LIFTS episodes.
