On a cold spring day in May 1982, two friends, Ann Lee and Margaret Johnson, set off for what would be their final dogwalk together around a familiar area of common land to them in the town of Aldershot, in Hampshire.Their final walk, because during it, Ann and Margaret met a crazed killer.Yet, within hours of the murder, had their killer called police and given his name and address? And when this wasn't acted upon, had he then called again just over a year later, to confess to the killings?I'll tell you, in the first of a two part story. The episode contains details and descriptions of crimes and events, including descriptions of injury detail, that some listeners may find disturbing or distressing, so discretion is advised whilst listening in. Matthew (Matt) A. Tyner, Sr. is the author of Fast and Hard: From Addictions to Redemption. He is a man who has reinvented himself and has invested his second chance at life with building positive relationships with those around him. Matt is best known for his work as a college baseball coach, but many know him as a walk-on baseball player from the prestigious University of Miami Baseball program that made three consecutive College World Series appearances. When all the world looked bright for Matt, it was his own demons who sabotaged all of his professional and personal opportunities. For decades he was cross addicted to drugs and alcohol, while mired in the muck of unsavory behaviors. His painfully raw memoir chronicles the scared boy running toward the monster of addictions and finally to how he found redemption. Matt speaks to reaching the ill-fated rock bottom. His memoir shows that if not for his reckoning with his demons, he would surely have lost his life. Fast and Hard is a dark story that ends with a man accepting the embrace of his spiritual awakening, the program of Alcoholics Anonymous and the forgiveness from his family and friends. For those longing for the life of a professional athlete, Matt shares the reality of the pitfalls and detours of a professional Minor League player. He is long past his days of playing for the franchises of the Baltimore Orioles, but his recall of those days is incredible. That life could never compare to the present life of being clean and sober for over two decades. In his addiction free life, he has dedicated his life to serving others and provides leadership through coaching and public speaking to thousands of men and women of all ages. Matt is currently a NCAA Division I Head Baseball Coach for Towson University. He is also the owner of MLT Sports Investments, LLC and a professional motivational speaker for Tyner Effect (www.Tynereffect.com). His educational background includes undergraduate studies at the University of Miami and his bachelor's degree in Business Communications from Concordia University, Indianapolis, IN Campus. https://tynereffect.com Fast & Hard - From Addictions to Redemption: https://www.amazon.com/Fast-Hard-Matthew-Tyner-Sr/dp/B0F1C3KVVD HELP SUPPORT OUR FIGHT AGAINST ADDICTION. Waheela - Deep in the remote wilderness of Canada's Northwest Territories lurks the Waheela, massive wolf-like predators with supernatural abilities that stalk the infamous Nahanni Valley, decapitating their victims and vanishing without a trace, earning the region its grim nickname "Headless Valley" and leaving even experienced wilderness guides to warn travelers never to venture there alone. The Babadook is a 2014 Australian psychological horror film written and directed by Jennifer Kent, expanding on her 2005 short Monster in her feature debut. Starring Essie Davis and Noah Wiseman, it follows a widowed mother and her increasingly unhinged son as they confront a mysterious, top-hatted entity that may—or may not—be grief in a trench coat. The haunting score is by Jed Kurzel. There's a problem in class today, and the second largest school district in the United States is trying to solve it.After looking at the growing body of research that has associated increased smartphone and social media usage with increased levels of anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and isolation—especially amongst adolescents and teenagers—Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) implemented a cellphone ban across its 1,000 schools for its more than 500,000 students.Under the ban, students who are kindergartners all the way through high school seniors cannot use cellphones, smartphones, smart watches, earbuds, smart glasses, and any other electronic devices that can send messages, receive calls, or browse the internet. Phones are not allowed at lunch or during passing periods between classes, and, under the ban, individual schools decide how students' phones are stored, be that in lockers, in magnetically sealed pouches, or just placed into sleeves at the front door of every classroom, away from students' reach. The ban was approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District through what is called a “resolution”—which the board voted on last year. LAUSD Board Member Nick Melvoin, who sponsored the resolution, said the overall ban was the right decision to help students. “The research is clear: widespread use of smartphones and social media by kids and adolescents is harmful to their mental health, distracts from learning, and stifles meaningful in-person interaction.”Today, on the Lock and Code podcast with host David Ruiz, we speak with LAUSD Board Member Nick Melvoin about the smartphone ban, how exceptions were determined, where opposition arose, and whether it is “working.” Melvoin also speaks about the biggest changes he has seen in the first few months of the cellphone ban, especially the simple reintroduction of noise in hallways.“[During a school visit last year,] every single kid was on their phone, every single kid. They were standing there looking, texting again, sometimes texting someone who was within a few feet of them, and it was quiet.”Tune in today. You can also find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and whatever preferred podcast platform you use.For all our cybersecurity coverage, visit Malwarebytes Labs at malwarebytes.com/blog.Show notes and credits:Intro Music: “Spellbound” by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Outro Music: “Good God” by Wowa (unminus.com)Listen up—Malwarebytes doesn't just talk cybersecurity, we provide it.Protect yourself from online attacks that threaten your identity, your files, your system, and your financial well-being with our exclusive offer for Malwarebytes Premium for Lock and Code listeners.

“A lot of other disease sites, they have some targeted therapies, they have some immunotherapies [IO]. In lung cancer, we have it all. We have chemo. We have IO. We have targeted therapies. We have bispecific T-cell engagers. We have orals, IVs. I think it's just so important now that, particularly for lung cancer, you have to be well versed on all of these,” ONS member Beth Sandy, MSN, CRNP, thoracic medical oncology nurse practitioner at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, told Jaime Weimer, MSN, RN, AGCNS-BS, AOCNS®, manager of oncology nursing practice at ONS, during a conversation about lung cancer treatment. Highlights From This Episode “Unfortunately, because lung cancer is pretty aggressive, we'll see lung cancer mostly in stage IV. So about 50%–55% of all cases are not caught until they are already metastatic, or stage IV. And then about another 25%–30% of cases are caught in stage III, which means they're locally advanced and often not resectable, but we do still treat that with curative intent with concurrent chemoradiation. And then 10%–20% of cases are found in the early stage, and that's stage I and II, where we can do surgical approaches.” TS 2:53 “The majority of radiation that you're going to see is for patients with stage III disease that's inoperable. At my institution, a lot of stage III is inoperable. Now, neoadjuvant immunotherapy has changed that a little bit. But if you have several big, bulky, mediastinal lymph nodes that makes you stage III, surgery is probably not going to be a great option. So we give curative-intent chemoradiation to these patients.” TS 10:51 “Oligoprogression would mean they have metastases but only to one site. And sometimes we will be aggressive with that. Particularly, there's good data, if the only site of progression is in the brain, we can do stereotactic radiation to the brain and then treat the chest with concurrent chemoradiation as a more definitive approach. But outside of that, the majority of stage IV lung cancer is going to be treated with systemic therapy.” TS 15:00 “It's important for nurses to know that there's a lot of different options now for treatment. Probably one of the most important things is making sure patients are aware of what their biomarker status is, what their PD-L1 expression level is, and make sure those tests have been done. … It's good that the patients understand that there's a myriad of options. And a lot of that depends on what we know about their cancer, and then that guides our treatment.” TS 31:05

That pervasive feeling of self-doubt and insecurity you believe you are not deserving of your achievements and fear being exposed as a fraud known as imposter syndrome is especially common among writers and other creatives who often grapple with the vulnerability inherent in sharing their work with the world. But perhaps your imposter syndrome is actually a positive sign about your progression as a writer. That's the topic of this solo episode in which Mark reflects upon that. Deep in the heart of Israel, God desires to be known by His chosen people. Revealing Himself to Moses as Yahweh, the Great I Am, a name too holy to utter, the Israelites call Him Jehovah. Throughout the Old Testament, Jehovah responds to the faith of His people and shows Himself strong on their behalf. In remembrance of Jehovah's power and love, the people give Him additional names describing His ability and willingness to help in their lives. Each name describes the nature of the One True God! Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, and remained faithful to the Lord in everything.
