Imagine having 40% of the public land in your state closed to hunt/harvest of ALL species, regardless of wildlife abundance and ecosystem health!!  Proposals on par with this are being considered and promoted for California's coastal waters. "Hunting the Ocean" can mean many things... pier fishing, spear fishing, free diving for spiny lobster, crabbing, shore fishing, angling from a boat or kayak, and many more things!  One thing is certain... even with the most regulated coastal fisheries in the world, the opportunity for individuals to access and enjoy the hunt in coastal California waters is under attack.  Listen in to this episode of Matt Bond (allwaters.org) and Devin O'dea (Backcountry Hunters and Anglers) explain the convoluted path and petition process which could disenfranchise subsistence anglers, eliminate adaptive management in complex ecosystems. You'll hear the connection between these closures and billion $$ organizations that will continue to have priority access for their use and purpose, while individuals are pushed out.  Tap into the links and resources below to continue following, and take action by using the HOWL for Wildlife Letter to the Editor tool, send comments to the Fish & Game Commission (email).  Join HOWL to stay informed and ready when we deploy our Action Center and pull the Hunting and Angling communities together in this fight.  All Waters Protection and Access Coalition (AllWaters.org)  All Waters - IG  California Fish & Game Commission Meeting Aug 14 - Agenda (item 9)  California Dept. of Fish & Wildlife MPA Review Process  Ocean Protection Council - 30x30 Review and Comment Process California Backcountry Hunters & Anglers - MPA Closures  *** #california #marineprotection #wildlifemanagement #oceanprotection #spearfishing #allwaters #marineprotectedarea #ecosystem #hunting #fishing #30x30 #conservation

A podcast investigates CA State Prison, Sacramento - formerly called New Folsom. Also, a Placer County production company makes a film on homelessness starring Billy Baldwin. Finally, the nation's first Black woman cartoonist in the mainstream press. Podcast Investigates CA State Prison in Sac The second season of KQED's investigative podcast On Our Watch debuted this week, focusing on the deaths of two correctional officers at California State Prison, Sacramento - formerly called New Folsom - who reported misconduct, corruption, and abuse by fellow officers. KQED Criminal Justice Reporters Sukey Lewis and Julie Small join Insight to talk about what their investigation uncovered within the walls of “New Folsom,” and the barriers and challenges officers faced when trying to report wrongdoing. The California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation released the following statement in response to the podcast: CDCR takes every allegation of employee misconduct very seriously and has restructured its process to ensure complaints are properly, fairly and thoroughly reviewed. In January 2022, CDCR implemented emergency regulations to improve the investigations process on staff misconduct allegations, and the department received funding in the 2022-23 state budget to support these continued efforts. A system of fixed and body-worn cameras is in place. In September 2022, CDCR announced changes to employee discipline for misconduct directed at incarcerated people, parolees, other employees, or members of the public. CDCR continues to work with outside law enforcement agencies on this case and cannot comment on many specific questions raised by reporters for this story. Placer County Movie on Homelessness There's a lot of movie buzz in Sacramento these days and one of the films that's getting attention is called No Address, starring William Baldwin. The feature movie, along with an accompanying documentary, will tell the story of the homelessness crisis and how so many Americans are one paycheck, one job loss, or one medical emergency away from ending up on the streets. Actor William “Billy” Baldwin, along with Jennifer Stolo, CEO of Placer County-based Robert Craig Films, join us to talk about the movie and why they believe the story of homelessness is an important topic to tackle, especially in light of the situation here in California. ‘STILL: Racism in America, A Retrospective in Cartoons' It's a special bond when a parent and child share a common passion. But one father and daughter took it to a whole other level, pioneering their own groundbreaking paths as Black cartoonists in the mainstream press. And their decades-long work is now on display, with a message that still resonates today. Cartoonist Barbara Brandon-Croft and curator Tara Nakashima Donahue, discuss their new installation at the UC Davis Design Museum “STILL: Racism in America, A Retrospective in Cartoons," which explores racism through cartoons by Brandon-Croft and her late father Brumsic Brandon, Jr. The exhibit runs through April 21.

In This Episode How many closed loop city transit cards do you have lying around? If you are a traveller you have lots of these souvenirs as every city has its own transit card or way of doing things, Can open payments and better payment systems improve public transportation and bring the unbanked into the financial ecosystem? Aaron Klein, Senior Fellow, Policy Director, Center for Regulation and Markets, Brookings Institute, not to mention former US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, and US Dept of the Treasury, and Gillian Gillett, Program Manager, California Integrated Mobility, California Dept of Transportation (CADOT) think so. Listen as they share latest research and interesting insights, to include California's adoption of new payment rails for urban transport, with host Brett King. The faster the payment, the faster we move, with implications for EVs and business. Digital inclusion remains important as is reforming how we charge for micropayments. Our connect theme continues as we look at Fintech as a Service (FaaS) and Brett catches up with NayaOne, CEO, Karan Jain, former Westpac exec. NayaOne is helping transform how banks bring new products to market. They need only 'Connect Once' as the platform enables FI's, fintechs, regulators, and industry bodies to collaborate with a pre-vetted fintech marketplace. A 2020 PwC global study showed that 75% of banks are investing in developing a more customer-focused business model by collaborating with fintechs. Banks want these partnerships, but not everyone realizes innovation the same way. Banks need to be fintech friendly and ready. Culture is important and action needs to match words if banks want to be at the leading edge and make an impact for their customers. https://youtu.be/Ens-lMdv0AQ

August 3, 2021 — California salmon fisheries are in trouble across the state's watersheds, as panelists testified last week at a hearing moderated by Senator Mike McGuire. Chuck Bonham, the head of the California Dept of Fish and Wildlife, testified that his agency had trucked 17 million fish from the Central Valley into the Bay Area, and 3500 to the Russian River watershed, a measure that will be difficult to sustain for a number of years. Joe Scriven is a fisheries biologist with the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District, which is working with the county's drought task force. He works in the upper Russian River watershed, which officially starts in Alexander Valley and works its way back to Orr Creek, Ackerman, Forsythe, the west fork and Potter Valley in the east branch. The fish may have had a couple of life cycles to rebound from the drought of 2014-2015, but they didn't get off to a great start this year.

Jonathan describes how he would approach hunting the high alpine zone just east of Yosemite in X12 as well as where he would look for bears feeding on pinon nuts in the late season.  The bear hunt opportunity in the eastern Sierra zone is incredible, with healthy and growing populations and relatively low hunter pressure or harvest. February 22, 2021 — Adventist Health in Mendocino County has administered 10,875 doses of the covid-19 vaccine, four thousand of them second doses. Vaccine shipments did not come in last week due to storms across the country. The hospital, which receives its own allocation of the vaccine, has been focusing on administering it to people over the age of 70. According to data from the California Dept of Public Health, 22,091 people in Mendocino County have been vaccinated. Healthy Mendocino puts the total population at 86,801. Dr. Bessant Parker, the Chief Medical Officer for Adventist Health in Mendocino County, said that in a sample of 660 doses given by the hospital, 18% were administered to Latino people. On Friday, Public Health Officer Dr. Andy Coren said 13.6% of the vaccines in the county have been administered to Latino people. Healthy Mendocino reports that the Hispanic/Latino population is 27.18% of the overall population in the county. Dr. Parker is expecting a supply of vaccines this week, but like all the other entities giving vaccinations, the hospital is having a hard time making appointments without information about exactly how many doses will arrive or when. He expects distribution to be streamlined once Blue Shield takes over the distribution of the vaccine. Six thousand people are in the Adventist Health database waiting to be contacted for an appointment to be vaccinated. You can sign up here. Learn more in our interview with Dr. Parker.

Hardy Mom
How to Identify Narcissism and Break the Cycle

Hardy Mom

Narcissism is: Clinically speaking, narcissitic personality disorder is defined as: a sense of grandiosity (put themselves in a god-like category), sense of entitlement, want to control everything and everyone around them. Their relationships are short term, like a roller coaster. The people they keep around them are ones they can use. They won't be intimate or vulnerable. They lie. They are obsessed with being brilliant, successful, or beautiful. Will only associate with people who are the best. Can be a delusional component; they believe people are jealous of them. They also can feel an intense amount of jealousy, insecurity, or envy. Pop-culture defines a narcissist as: someone who has a lack of empathy, puts their feelings above everyone else's, they feel very entitled, and are very manipulative. Gaslighting. The relationship becomes very parasitic. Dr. Natalie Jones specialises in counseling women of color with narcissistic mothers. She identifies what narcissism means, how to detect if that's what we lived (or live) with, and how to break the cycle. BIO: Dr. Natalie Jones, PsyD., LPCC is an Licensed professional clinical counselor and a post doctoral psychologist. She currently has a private practice called Lifetime Counseling and Consulting in Oakland, CA where she specializes in working with women who have been in emotionally and psychologically abusive relationships with narcissists, as well as with individuals who were previously incarcerated for various crimes. Dr. Jones also works for the California Dept of Corrections and specializes in providing individual/group counseling and assessments to prison inmates who have committed various offenses, with a specialization in working with sex offenders. Dr. Jones also has a podcast called A Date With Darkness Podcast, which specializes in providing education and tips from healing from narcissistic relationships. Dr. Jones received her masters in clinical counseling psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL, and her doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Jones has also written blogs for the Mind Journal and PsychCentral. A few things we talked about: Just like animals who have parasites become sickly, so do we when we have a parasidic narcissist attached to us. There are women who are in abusive relationships lose part of themselves and may become physically sick. Go to 30:17-31:01 to listen to this part People who have been raised by a narcissistist have a greater liklihood of being in a relationship with a narcissist. People who are in a relationship with a narcissist may find comfort in that relationship because there's comfort in what we know. They might not want to change. If the person is a true narcisstic person, you can limit contact or make the coversation superficial. Or limiting talking to once or twice a year at holidays when you can walk away. Know that the narcissist will not change unless they want to, which rarely happens. Do not expect them to change. They feel like they don't have the problem. When narcissists go to treatment, it's usually to prove how you're the problem and they're so wonderful. You can't typically have a superficial relationship with a relationship partner. They need everything focused on them. Don't stay in this relationship for your kids. If the person is treating you like garbage, that's abuse, and your kids are seeing you be abused. Even if they're "nice" parents, if they treat you like dirt that isn't good parenting. If someone is abusing you, there's a chance they're abusing your kids and you don't know it. Narcissism indicators: You have to do a lot of work just to have a relationship with the narcissistic person. (Much more than a normal relationship.) You have to mentally prepare yourself to go "into a war-zone" when you're going to deal with them. You feel like you can't have a healthy conversation with the person. You have to hide part of your life from them because they use information to attack you, use it against you in a moment of weakness, or they'll try to hold it over you later. If you notice those things, ask yourself why. Many people think they have to respect their parents, but don't know exactly what their definition of what respect is. Often, the word respect is misused. Do they respect you, or hold you emotionally hostage? Do they try to control you to be a certain way so they can get what they want, but you don't get what you want from the relationship. We feel like we don't know them. We know how they act, or their behaviors, but we don't know the intimacies and intracasies of their life. Is it healthy to break the tie with a narcisstic person? "Yes, it might even be necessary or life-saving to break that tie." You're in a relationship with two people: you're in a relationship with the actual parent, and they're also in a relationship with the fantasy or idea of what their parent should be, or what they hope one day they can be." It's important to reconcile reality from fantasy. Chances are they are not going to change.   More facts about narcissism according to Dr. Jones: 99.9% of the time, people that were raised by abusive parents, and have children of their own, have the abuse manifest in some way with their own children. The number one indicator is that typically what happens when moms lash out with their own children, is that they have guilt. "I'm acting like the person I never wanted to be." Pay attention to guilt. If you notice it coming up, go to a therapist, or to the bookstore and get a book about this. If the people who know and care about you notice a problem with your own parenting, listen. Don't be defensive. Biggest telltale sign is your kids. If you're manifesting behaviors towards, your kids, there will be a reminder of the past. They might feel like they can't come to you or talk to you. They might even be afraid or intimitated by you. BOOKS to help you learn more: "Narcisstic Families, Assessment and Treatment" "Narcisstic Mothers" Dr. Susan Forward, "Toxic Families" Anything by H.G. Tudor - books and videos on YouTube Kim Saeed has videos on YouTube about narcissism Anything by Lundy Vancroft Anything by Susan Anderson     ------------------- Dr. Natalie Jones' advice to women whose parent is a narcissistic: Find a surrogate parent, or parent-like figure who can fulfill healthier roles for you. The idea of what you thought your parent some day could be. Dr. Natalie Jones' advice to a mom in a relationship with a narcissist: Think about what this means for you and what you want to do about it. Do you want it to stop, or do you want to just have an awareness of what's happening? Research on the internet and bounce ideas off friends. If you're questioning some things, write them down, and think about it more. Get a therapist you can talk to regularly who specializes in working with these kinds of situations. Be safe. You might not want your partner to see what you're reading, or your notes so they can't access it. Be selective about who you share information with so they don't share the information with the narcisstic person. Dr. Natilie Jones' Superpower: She is a human lie detector. She can tell if someone is lying or conning within seconds.   If you need help in the U.S. - The Domestic Violence Hotline in the U.S. is: 1−800−799−7233 If you are needing help with rent, utilites, and more, you can call the United Way at 2-1-1.   You can find Dr. Natalie Jones Contact: https://www.drnataliejones.com https://www.adatewithdarkness.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.nataliejones/ Instagram2: https://www.instagram.com/adatewithdarknesspodcast/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drnataliejones/ Facebook 2: https://www.facebook.com/adatewithdarkness/ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/196036654267594/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Dr_NatalieJones Twitter 2: https://twitter.com/ADateWDarkness   Thank you for joining me today!  Want more? This week is a huge milestone as we are celebrating the 100th episode of the Moms With Dreams Show! I’ve been anticipating this day for several weeks now. I remember when I started my podcast back in May 2015. Producing one show per week felt like an eternity away from 100, but now it’s finally here! Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard from other podcasters that I am the exception in the industry – that most podcasts don’t make it past 20 episodes, let alone reach 100! I had no idea since all the podcasts that I listen to are successful with hundreds of episodes. This conversation was my reminder to stop and acknowledge myself for making it this far – something that I often forget to do. Instead of interviewing a guest or teaching a lesson, I invited my listeners and previous guests to join me in this episode. After my extended introduction, you’ll hear audio clips of them sharing a few words about the show. I am grateful for my community and want you to have access to these wonderful people. Below you’ll find their names, a brief bio, contact information and a link to their episode if they were a guest. In this episode, I gave a shout out to John Bukenas, my podcast producer. If you’re thinking about starting a podcast or you’ve already started and need an editor, I highly suggest John. This week IAQ Radio will be flashing back to January 21, 2011 for a show we did with Mark J. Mendell, PhD. of the Lawrence Berkeley Lab and the California Dept. of Health. When looking back at shows to replay this one stood out so we remixed the sound, tweaked a few things and will replay it today. Mark Mendell, Ph.D., is currently a Staff Scientist/Epidemiologist in the Indoor Environment Group at EETD, and an Air Pollution Research Specialist at the California Department of Public Health. Dr. Mendell is on the editorial board of the journal Indoor Air and a member of the International Academy of Indoor Air Sciences. He was formerly at the Centers for Disease Control/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, where he was head of the National Occupational Research Agenda Team on Indoor Environments. Dr. Mendell holds a BA from Cornell University; a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon; and a PhD in epidemiology from the University of California at Berkeley, School of Public Health. Dr. Mendell has worked for 20 years in the field of environmental epidemiology, focused on health effects related to indoor environments in buildings. His work includes field research to help understand relationships between specific factors and conditions in buildings and health effects in occupants, and critical reviews of the literature that summarize what we know, how well we know it, and what we do not know, about specific environment/health relationships in buildings. His research interests include health risks associated with buildings, ventilation systems, moisture, and microbial growth; effects of indoor environments in schools on health and performance of students, and effects of indoor chemical exposures in residences on asthma and allergies. LEARN MORE about indoor environments and the health effects related to mold and moisture this week on IAQ Radio!

Times: 8:00 pm EST / 9:00 AST. Please check the time in your time zone. Welcome to our Mondays at 8:00: Authors Supporting Authors series, brought to you as a joint project by authors April Thomas and Etienne A. Gibbs. Each week we shall interview authors about their work and the disciple behind their writing. Call 646-721-9611 during the show with your questions or comments. This week's author: Wesley “Godfather” Hunter Born and raised in the streets of Los Angeles, Mr. Wesley “Godfather” Hunter began his journey of gang-banging and crime at a very youthful age. By age 10 he’d already experienced his first arrest and stay in a jail cell. By the age of 12 he’d begun a career of incarceration, which has kept him physically imprisoned for most of his life. Yet, even in this, life has not left him bitter and he continues to strive, finding the strength within himself to overcome against the odds. Now a 32 year-old aspiring author, currently incarcerated in the California Dept. of Corrections where he is serving out the remainder of a 20 year sentence for commercial armed robbery and 2 counts of attempted murder on sheriff’s deputies, Wesley has used his time wisley. Devoted to spreading the word of change/love and self-respect in his works and titles, he spends most of his time focused on positive writings, thoughts and goals geared towards improving himself, and giving something back to society in the form of insight, experience, and wisdom. Mr. Godfather has written several novels and an autobiography but has since established his own Urban Diamonds Publishing to release his latest titles. He has started a youth help organization, “The Raw Truth”, to bring forth through the inner city churches and other youth-related programs. Source: Wikipedia.com
