Kathryn Bigelow is back. But are WE so back? Not quite. The gang discusses the recent release A House of Dynamite, a film in which the president listens to podcasts, Tracy Letts loves the Mets, and the city of Chicago may or may not be completely leveled by an atomic bomb. Do we kind of miss Mark Boal now? Are we praying Kathryn Bigelow directs something a little more in line with Strange Days or Point Break next? Would Ethan Hunt have saved this movie? Yes, yes, and yes. Sign up for Check Book, the Blank Check newsletter featuring even more “real nerdy shit” to feed your pop culture obsession. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In 10/25/25. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS In Atlanta, a White Man was arrested and charged for plotting a mass shooting at Atlanta's international airport. Large numbers of black people work and travel through this facility. Suspected Race Soldier Billy J. Cagle's White relatives snitched to authorities about his murderous intentions. He was nabbed at the airport with an AR-15 and many rounds of ammunition. In Washington D.C., a White man was taken into custody alive after he rammed a Secret Service gate with his vehicle. Miriam I. Carey is not forgotten. Curiously, almost no information has been released about this incident - no suspicion of motive, no identifying information, no list of charges. In this context, lawful black gun owners in Illinois report being arrested and charged with felonies for being in possession of a firearm. Reports indicate these arrests were carried out by Chicago police, not ICE. #EndStageWhiteSupremacy #SobrietyWouldBeBest INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS Call: 720.716.7300 Code: 564943#

Robert Johnson didn't just play the blues. He embodied them. He drank and womanized his way through the South, New York, and Chicago in the 1930s, until he finally met the devil at the crossroads for a little trade. So the legend goes, anyway. With the same soul he supposedly sold to the devil, Robert Johnson belted lightning blues that captured trouble in 12 bars. But the trouble he touted would eventually trickle into his own life, one bottle of poison at a time. Renovating old homes comes with surprises — mold, wiring, maybe a few mice. But what Connor and his father found in a Chicago house was something far worse. It started like any other job: clearing out the remains of a hoarder's life, throwing junk into a dumpster, ignoring the sour, heavy smell that clung to every wall. They thought it was rot… until their coworker casually mentioned that the previous homeowner had died in the master bedroom — and wasn't found for weeks. After that, the house seemed alive. Footsteps echoed above them when no one was there. Voices answered back in familiar tones — even Connor's father's voice, though he was outside when Connor swore he'd heard him upstairs. Tools moved on their own, a ladder toppled across rooms, and every day, the air grew thicker, heavier, like the house itself didn't want to change. And even after the renovations ended, the haunting didn't. Lights flickered. Electronics turned off. Connor's fiancée couldn't even stream a show without the ghost making itself known — still obeying when he spoke to it by name. Some homes don't just hold memories. They hold the ones who never left. #RealGhostStoriesOnline #HauntedRenovation #TrueHaunting #ParanormalExperience #ChicagoHaunting #HauntedHouse #RenovationGoneWrong #GhostStory #SpiritAttachment #Ghosts #ConstructionGhost #TrueGhostStory Love real ghost stories? His work has been featured by such leading publications as New York Review of Books, The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Esquire, Rolling Stone, and New York magazine. If elected, Mamdani would become the first Muslim-American and only the second Democratic Socialist Mayor of the largest city in the U.S. His victory, on a promise to make New York affordable for working people, would have implications for politics everywhere. The race is already garnering both excitement and anxiety. President Trump is threatening to withhold federal funding for New York City if Mamdani wins. From Chicago to Dearborn, Michigan, journalists are watching. In this installment of “Meet the BIPOC Press”, Laura Flanders speaks with Felipe De La Hoz, investigative immigration and policy reporter whose work has been featured in The Intercept, The Washington Post, New York Mag and The Nation; Osama Siblani, publisher and founder of The Arab American News, the largest Arab American newspaper in the U.S., and Asha Ransby-Sporn, organizer and writer for In These Times and co-founder of Black Youth Project 100, where she led the group's national organizing program. Join us as we explore what a Mamdani victory would signal for the nation.“. . . There's this sense that [Left-leaning candidates] have to essentially be apologizing for their policy prescriptions and their stances. Mamdani has not done that . . . For the most part, he very much embraces who he is and what his policy prescriptions are.” - Felipe De La Hoz“I hate giving labels. I don't look at Mandani as a progressive. I look at him as representing the anger and anguish of people who have been left behind with the political apparatus.” - Osama Siblani“More so than I am concerned with Black people being pulled to the Right or being pulled in by Trump . . . I think what we see are people who are disengaged and feel like our political system isn't going to deliver for them at all. Who feel let down by the establishment Democratic party that has sold all of us out for decades, and Black people have borne an enormous amount of the brunt of that impact.” - Asha Ransby-SpornGuests:• Felipe De La Hoz: Immigration & Policy Reporter, Epicenter NYC• Asha Ransby-Sporn: Writer & Political Strategist; Columnist, In These Times• Osama Siblani: Publisher, The Arab American NewsFull Conversation Release: While our weekly shows are edited to time for broadcast on Public TV and community radio, we offer to our members and podcast subscribers the full uncut conversation. In this interview, Glenn Haussman chat with Kevin Osterhaus of #Hilton to talk about how Outset empowers hotels that have soul — properties that fit their place, not a mold. Kevin shares how Hilton is bridging the gap between individuality and brand strength, with properties launching in Los Angeles, Moab, Chicago, and Upstate New York — and more than 60 active conversations in the works.

My chat this week is with Vanessa Arroyo, founder and designer of SERES Footwear, a focused line designed from the ground up with high-quality natural materials in a way that's not often seen in the women's space.Once known as “the weird girl in high school making her own clothes” and thrown into shoemaking almost by chance, Vanessa fell in love with the art and craft of shoemaking between New York City, Chicago, and Leon Mexico, where she found unexpected meaning in her Mexican-American heritage—and sometimes had to stop working when it was raining too hard (you'll see what she means, I kinda love that part). As she walks us through the cobblestone streets of León, Vanessa paints a vivid picture of a shoemaking community bound by heart, heritage, and hands-on artistry. We explore how that local ecosystem fuels creativity, what might be lost as manufacturing drifts further overseas, eand how working within constraints can actually sharpen a design process.I'm also hugely excited and quite honored to have SERES as our first-ever exclusively women's-focused brand at our Stitchdown's Boot Camp Chicago quality footwear expo on November 8th, 2025—if you're reading this before then, trust me, GET YOURSELF TO CHICAGO, you won't be disappointed by what Vanessa and our other 45 vendors have to showcase. Here's Vanessa Arroyo, of SERES Footwear, on the Shoecast. Lured Up Podcast 368 Live Streamed on - 10/21/25 Publish Date - 10/24/25 Pokémon Trainers everywhere are torn between Legends Z-A on Switch and the Level 80 grind in Pokémon GO! Luckily for PGO Trainers, the Legends Z-A Event gave us some slight crossover to scratch the itch. It was Mega Rayquaza Raid Day however, that brought the Trainers out over the weekend. Communities everywhere were putting in big numbers to take down the Sky High Pokémon. With Raid numbers like we are seeing, we can only imagine what Mega Dragonite or Mega Mewtwo will do. Spooky Season is officially here with the return of the Halloween Event, which brings a little bit of everything over the rest of the month. New Pokémon, new Shinies, and new Costumes will fill our inventories as we continue our push to the upper levels. We check in on our progress and share some best practices for some of the initial tasks to complete after Level 70. We still have plenty of time in October, but we already have the November Content Update which of course includes the Wild Area. This event has proven to be exciting and a fantastic draw for Communities. We have a feeling that GMAX Grimmsnarl will keep us on the grind along with Shadow Darkrai. The Wild Area hype can only be bested by one thing, GO Fest hype. The local Fox news affiliate in Chicago dropped a bombshell that Pokémon GO will be returning to Grant Park in 2026 with the option of 2027. We are VERY excited for this announcement as Grant Park provided an incredible backdrop for GO Fest, with great terrain, views, and a straightforward layout. The City Experience element will bring new experiences for Trainers, and we have plenty of time to prepare. In true Halloween fashion, the witches are conjuring up some ghost stories! In this spirited episode of Back on the Broomstick, Chelle and Laylla share some of their favorite hauntings. Two of them were chosen to honor a fabulously witchy woman, Helen JoJo, who maintains their Facebook community. Chelle and Laylla absolutely love her witchy soul!Chelle shares stories tied to Helen's home turf, including Ohio's eerie Hopewell Cemetery and the elegant ghost known as the Lady in Green who haunts the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. Laylla, of course, can't resist a classic “lady in white” tale and brings us the legend of Resurrection Mary from Chicago; the quintessential vanishing hitchhiker ghost that never gets old. There's also a little witchy rant as Laylla gets into the differences between a Bansidhe and your average haunted cemetery spirit (spoiler: they are not the same thing, folks). And the witches wrap up the episode with a peek into their upcoming Samhain plans. So light a candle, pour some cider, and settle in for tales of ghosts, grief, and the veil growing thin.Got a question? When you ask someone to recall something from deep in their memory, watch their face — they'll probably do something that actually helps them remember. You might do it too without realizing it. Listen as I reveal what it is and why it works. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/ulterior-motives/201110/why-do-you-close-your-eyes-remember Have you heard of the winner's curse or the sunk cost theory? These are strange but predictable ways our brains can trick us when we take risks — especially with money. My guest, Alex O. Imas, Professor of Behavioral Science, Economics, and Applied AI at the University of Chicago, has studied these “behavioral anomalies” with Nobel Prize winner Richard Thaler. Together they co-authored The Winner's Curse: Behavioral Economics Anomalies, Then and Now. (https://amzn.to/48gycBj) . Listen to how these things work, because understanding these anomalies can help keep you from falling victim to them. We've all had to work in groups, whether it's a team we are assigned to at work, or a neighborhood committee or parents' group. Sometimes they run beautifully. Often… they don't. Why do so many groups struggle, and how can we make them more effective? Colin T. Fisher, Associate Professor of Organizations and Innovation at University College London, joins me to share insights that can help any team excel. Colin is author of the book The Collective Edge: Unlocking the Secret Power of Groups.(https://amzn.to/48WcuCT).
