The Justice Department yesterday indicted former Cuban dictator Raoul Castro and others for three murders of American citizens thirty years ago. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, it may mark “the beginning of the end” of the regime he and his brother, Fidel, have inflicted on the island's longsuffering population for nearly seven decades. The indictment was preceded by an oil embargo engineered by President Trump and a man whose family fled to freedom from Cuba, Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It has precipitated sustained blackouts and economic privation that has translated into increasing public demands for liberty. It's hard to overstate the strategic implications of Cuba's possibly imminent liberation. The Kremlin and Communist China have long weaponized the island, collecting signals intelligence there, running spy operations here and supporting insurgencies and hostile regimes throughout the Western hemisphere. Let us pray for Cuba Libre. This is Frank Gaffney.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Ravi Gupta was a struggling high school student, he pulled Jon Lee Anderson's biography of Che Guevara off his mom's bookshelf—and it became the first book that truly grabbed him, shaping how he saw the world. That personal connection sparks a wide-ranging conversation about how Anderson's globe-trotting childhood led him to report from the frontlines of history and build trust with everyone from warlords to world leaders. The episode traces Cuba's dramatic ups and downs—from the economic collapse of the 1990s to Barack Obama's brief attempt at reopening relations—and why the country now feels closer to crisis again. And it ends with an unforgettable twist: Anderson's own unlikely role in uncovering what happened to Che Guevara after his death. --> VOTE HERE for Where the School's Went for Best Health, Science, or Education Podcast ------- Leave us a voicemail with your thoughts on the show! 201-305-0084 Follow Ravi at @RaviMGupta Notes from this episode are also available on Substack: https://thelostdebate.substack.com/ Read more from Ravi on Substack: https://realravigupta.substack.com Follow The Branch at @thebranchmedia Listen to more episodes of Lost Debate on Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-lost-debate/id1591300785 Listen to more episodes of Lost Debate on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7xR9pch9DrQDiZfGB5oF0F Listen to Where the Schools Went: https://thebranchmedia.org/show/where-the-schools-went/
President Trump has made no secret of his ambition to “take Cuba” next. It's hard to overstate the importance of such an initiative. Obviously, freeing the long-suffering people of that island nation would end their collective nightmare caused by six decades of Communist misrule. But it would also have profound knock-on effects for this country and its vital interests throughout the Western hemisphere. For one thing, Cuba has provided a permanent base of operations for hostile powers including Russia, China and Iran. Cuba's collaboration with such adversaries has extended to nations elsewhere in the region, as well – subverting its democracies and, particularly through Chinese penetration and domination of nation after nation, empowering and weaponizing its many hard-left governments. Learn how freeing Cuba could transform hemispheric security – and ours – via a PresentDangerChina.org webinar tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. This is Frank Gaffney.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this ep the drink of the podcast was the Cuba Libre, and the duo is back to close out February with a classic Insomnia-style spiral. We jump from culture to chaos real quick—talking about “delicacies” from different cultures and how some foods sound wild until you realize every culture has something that makes outsiders pause (and yes… we ask the question: who is really lining up to eat an unborn baby chicken?). From there it turns into bedtime talk: the weird, specific things we each need to actually fall asleep, and why our brains refuse to shut off. Then we roast the winter nightlife struggle—getting dressed up just to fight traffic, pay cover, and tip a dollar for someone to hand you paper towels in the bathroom like it's a luxury service. That leads to the bigger question: is the bar/club scene slowly getting killed, and if so, by what—prices, vibes, age, phones, crowds, all of it? We end up looking in the mirror asking the most important question of the night: ARE WE THE NEW TIOS?! and so much more.

In the much-anticipated follow-up to last week's discussion on Valentine's Day gift giving, Steve catches us up on the trials and tribulations of navigating Hallmark's most imaginary holiday. Revenge of the Ninja: It's a story you've probably heard before. A ninja name Cho Osaki has left his life of ninjacity behind is pulled back in after his family is killed in Japan. At the urging of a close friend, Braden, he moves to Los Angeles and opens a doll shop. For whatever reason, we never find out who killed Cho's wife, oldest son, and others present. *shrug emoji* But after he settles in Los Angeles, it turns out that Braden is actually smuggling heroin through the doll shop that he helped Cho establish. No backstory is given on how or why Braden became a drug dealer or why he though the dolls were the best method of transportation. *shrug emoji*Cho's son, Kane, accidentally uncovers the heroin, and Braden decides he has to kill Cho's mom. This all makes sense somehow. But then Kane witnesses Braden killing his grandmother, so now Braden's gotta kill him. This whole operation goes sideways like two days after it's established. Plus there's a mob guy that won't pay Braden for the drugs he's smuggled in. So then that guys gotta go too, I guess. But, Cho decides he has to kill Braden for killing his mom and abducting his son. He still isn't too worried about all the killings back in Japan.Revenge of the Ninja final grade: Steve: I liked this one. It's not up there with the all-time gut busters of intentional/unintentional comedy, but the story worked some of the time, hit all the 80s ninja themes. I love the Utah landscapes. 3.05/5.0Brandon: I liked it a little more after I thought about it. Lots weapons. The story was a little discombobulated, but it was a fun, above-average watch. Throwing stars. Nunchucks. Katana. 3.0/5.0Cocktail of the Week:The Ninja1 oz Light Rum1/2 oz Lychee LiqueurSlice of LimeA few drops of pressed ginger liquidAs much Coca-Cola as your glass will hold.Build the cocktail in the glass. Add the rum and liqueur over ice, squeeze a knob of ginger in a garlic press to get the juice out. Stir to combine just a bit, then add your coke and squeeze a lime wedge over the top. Garnish with a lime wheel and Luxardo cherries.Cocktail Grade: The presence of the ginger is an interesting little twist on the Cuba Libre. Surprisingly, it wasn't as unwelcome a flavor combo as you might think 3.9/5.0------------------Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to:boozeandbmovies@gmail.comX: @boozeandbmoviesInstagram: @boozeandbmoviesThreads: @boozeandbmovieswww.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies
