Shaymaa Ismaa'eel: Countering bigotry with joy

“I smiled in the face of bigotry.”   Shaymaa Ismaa'eel Muslim who stood up to Islamophobia with joy   The Art: Ink drawing of Shaymaa Ismaa'eel flashing a bright smile and peace sign while wearing an orange hijab. She's drawn on a map of Washington, DC, where she encountered the anti-Muslim protestors that inspired her smile.    The Story: It was a warm spring day in Washington, DC and Shaymaa Ismaa'eel was attending a large Islamic conference when she noticed a loud group of protestors outside brandishing Islamaphobic signs and hurling abuses on the attendees. Their presence was upsetting the attendees, but most tried to hide their feelings and not give the protestors attention.  Ismaa'eel's friend said to her, “It's Sunday, It's Easter. Don't they have something better to do?” to which Ismaa'eel rejoined, “Clearly, they need something from us,” and she decided to respond to them in a non-confrontational way: she asked her friend to take a photo for her.  In the photo, Ismaa'eel is wearing a hijab and squatting on the curb with a huge smile across her face while flashing a peace sign. The angry protestors and their rude signs and insults served as the backdrop. She shared the photo on Twitter a couple days later, writing “On April 21st I smiled in the face of bigotry and walked away feeling the greatest form of accomplishment” and on Instagram, with a quote from the Prophet Muhammad saying, “Kindness is a mark of faith. Those who are not kind have no faith.” Her posts quickly went viral, racking up 100,000s of mostly positive interactions online.  “I wanted them to see my joy and to combat their hatred with kindness.” she said of the photo. “There's a saying from our Prophet saying, ‘Smile is charity,' and that's just me personally anyway, always smiling. I wanted to show them that we are going to remain kind and unapologetic and continue to spread love in the face of bigotry.” A behavioral therapist with children on the autism spectrum near DC, Ismaa'eel continues, “I'm all about being unapologetic about who you are—don't let anyone dim your light.”   Music: This episode contains music from Geovane Bruno, SoulProdMusic, and ItsWatR.   Sources: Anadolu Agency.

It was an overwhelming vote in favor of amending Sweden's constitution that will allow the country to toughen its anti-terror laws. The changes were a key demand from Türkiye, for it to approve Sweden's bid to join the NATO alliance. After Russia launched its attack on Ukraine back in late February, Sweden and Finland dropped their decades of neutrality to apply to join NATO. But Türkiye, who has long accused both countries, particularly Sweden, of harboring and allowing terror groups to operate on their territory. As a NATO member, Türkiye said it would veto the Scandinavian countries' bid to join the alliance, if they didn't crack down on terror groups like the PKK. That change came on Wednesday, after passing in the Swedish parliament with 278 votes. The amendment caps off pledges made by Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kirstersson, during his meeting with President Erdogan in Ankara last week, to take a firmer stance on fighting terrorism. So what will this new anti-terror law entail and will Sweden's' government be able to crack down on groups with the constitutional changes?

It's a threat that Turkiye long warned about, but is just now getting attention in Europe. According to a recent German intelligence report, the PKK is the largest terrorist organization operating in the country. Germany's spy chief admitted that the country has become a platform for the PKK terror organization's fundraising and recruitment activities targeting Türkiye. Although Ankara has repeatedly called on its NATO ally Germany to take stronger action against the PKK, the terrorist group's activities have been largely tolerated by authorities, and Berlin has been reluctant to do more to combat the group. Tridimensi Aktivasi Hagia Sofia dalam Kontestasi Kaum Nasionalis-Sekuler di Turki Oleh. Iranti Mantasari, BA.IR, M.Si (Kontributor Tetap NarasiPost.Com) Voice over talent: Giriyani SS NarasiPost. Link to article: https://bit.ly/3rnYGtyOn Tuesday, Turkish police in eleven different provinces took forty suspects into custody for an alleged money laundering scam perpetrated using the Twitch streaming platform.According to Demirören News Agency (via Daily Sabah and Dexerto), the suspects are accused of using stolen credit cards to buy Bits, which are essentially the platform's virtual currency. Those Bits were then allegedly sent to streamers, who then paid the scammers real money through a 70 to 80 percent refund. So, if the scammers bought 1,000 Bits for $10, this could be a way for them to make $7 or $8 from a stolen credit card, and streamers to pick up the difference. Compound more stolen credit cards and much higher dollar amounts, and you end up with a scam that could total an estimated $9.8 million. This appears to be a long-running operation, with an email paper trail going back two years.Daily Sabah covered the suspected scam in November 2021, after a thread titled “Thief KO streamers” appeared on well-known Turkish forum, frmtr.com. The thread alleged that some smaller streamers with only 40 to 50 viewers were making significant amounts of money. However, it wasn't only forum threads that were sounding the alarm.Support the show (https://bit.ly/2XdAlJC)
