Do you feel it? There's a hint of fall in the air. The transition from summer to fall is a big energetic shift. You may not feel like yourself. You may feel burned out, and sluggish with no energy. The transition from one season to another is a vulnerable time when we want to pay attention to our health. We want to prepare ourselves for these transitions so that we are aligned and work with them instead of spending our energy and health fighting against them. According to Ayurveda, the hot Pitta summer gives way to the cool, windy fall Vata season. Our immune system and digestion weaken during that time. We experience issues linked to dryness, such as gas and bloating, constipation, chapped lips, anxiety, or insomnia. We want to balance this transition from hot and wet, to dry and cold, otherwise, a Vata-Pitta imbalance leads to burnout. The key to a smooth transition is to gradually shift your daily routine and diet. The good news is that we were officially in Virgo season. Simply put, it's simpler to establish routines and get organized during Virgo season. Routines balance all the dosha, especially Vata. We can breathe a sigh of relief on the 28th when Mercury goes direct. Because of the retro shade phase, which lasts for two weeks, we aren't completely clear. But things get better when it comes to traveling, technology, and communication. Venus moves into Libra on the 29th. Libra is Venus's home sign and it loves it there. Venus in Libra restores balance and harmony to our life. Venus in Libra is the ideal remedy to help calm any potential Mercury retrograde symptoms that may have arisen. We're in some great energy as August comes to an end. Summer might be almost over, but these next few weeks will be peaceful and lovely.

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Lorena: What are your thoughts on Anti EMR paint? Would you say it's legit at blocking emf? Bridgette: Hi Stephen Cabral, I am a student of yours taking the integrative health practitioner course. I can't thank you enough for all of the work you have done and continue to do. I thank God for you. I am thoroughly enjoying this course and am in awe with how much prep work you have done for us all. I can't thank you enough! I am physically feeling the best I have felt in years! I have a question regarding Maslow's hierarchy of needs. For the basic physiological needs, you mention sex being one of them and I was wondering if you would elaborate on this. Please forgive me as this isn't exactly a health question but I would really love some deeper clarity if possible, as I have struggled for years with knowing how exactly I want to relate to sex and intimacy. I am 32 years old and have been so disconnected from intimacy and sex, I seem to always be asking myself if this is whats healthiest for me. I don't know what the answer is. Can you please explain why sex is one of the basic physiological needs? Of course it's needed for pro-creation, but is it actually needed and necessary to be a balanced healthy happy being, climbing the pyramid to self-actualization? I would really love to hear your thoughts. Like I mentioned above, I have been confused about this for years. Thanks! Sarah: Hi Dr Cabral, thank you for all you do, I have learned so much from you. I have a friend who's son has just been diagnosed with pethres disease. I can't find anything on this and I wondered what your thoughts were on it and what you would do if your daughter had it? I appreciate you, thank you. Sara: Hey Dr. Cabral what do you think about using castor oil while you're in the sauna for additional detox support combined with heat? Tamara: What do you think for a post menopausal women taking strontium? My doctor recommended it after my bone density test came back borderline for osteoporosis. I am now taking calmag and DNS shake everyday along with this product. Wondering what you thought about this product and vs your bone supplement. Thanks for everything you do. Rob: Hi Doc! I hope you can help me as I've been feeling very confused lately. I've ran all of my labs and I've done all protocols: 21 day detox, CBO, heavy metal, take my DNS, omega 3, vitamin D, mag-cal, zinc etc every day. I'm 32 year old Vata/Pitta, eat mostly plant-based with approx 60g of protein everyday. All organic. My labs show high estrogen and Adrenal phase 3 (burnout). I have a corporate job so I'm not surprised about the burnout and I've been making some lifestyle changes such as quitting strength training for now and just doing yoga and 10k steps and 1h meditation everyday. So I'm working hard to elevate those cortisol levels again but I'm confused about the high estrogen. I probably eat soy twice a week from tofu but that's pretty much eat and I'm not really exposed to any xenoestrogens since everything at home is natural. No oestrogen-based red meat either... Help? We did an episode earlier this year on the introduction of Ayurveda and what it is. But we didn't really touch on the Dosha's. Well my dear friends, that is what we are doing today! We are going to learn what each Dosha (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) is and what lifestyle activities and adjustments you can do to bring them back to harmony. Links & resources— Please visit www.gildedrosespa.com if you would like to book your next appointment with me!
Our last conversation we talked about the importance of being in integrity, or authenticity with our minds, values and community. Just like a pianist must possess the mental skill, a functional instrument, and the heart of the music in order to play a beautiful concerto, you must be in total alignment in these three areas in order to allow your visions and passions to manifest. And TODAY we're going to continue exploring Ayurveda's tried-and true solutions to help you achieve optimal wellness and fulfillment in your personal and professional life. You are going to learn: What does balance mean according to Ayurveda? What is a dosha and how are each of the 3 doshas different? How to assess your dosha (hint, we have a self-assessment quiz, be sure to take that so you can get the most out of this episode). A sneak peak into a few pro tips for balancing your dosha(s). Digging deeper into VPK, or Vata Pitta and Kapha, the Ayurvedic doshas! Let's learn how we can keep our dosha in balance throughout our life, throughout the seasons and in our everyday life. There are so many choices we can take throughout our daily life that can aggravate our dosha, which means it will get worse or will tame and balance it, which is the wiser choice! What is the ideal dosha to look for in a partnership so you can balance each other out? Which of the doshas lives the longest? Who craves sweet food, who craves fatty food, and who is the most prone to addictions? I couldn't stop weaving anecdotes into this episode, but I think it will help you make sense of VPK! We'll go a bit deeper into Pitta dosha today, representing fire-water, but I cover useful info for all three doshas! Get access to exclusive videos and posts through my ko-fi donation site (like Patreon). Podcast Intro: There's more and more literature coming out of the scientific community around inflammation. The more someone feels like they don't know why it happened to them, why that gland or tissue organ system went diseased, or understanding what systems are involved, can be even scarier than it may need to be. What you'll get out of tuning in: What's the Vata type shape? How the nervous system goes towards an adrenaline state? What happens with the job of the kidneys? What's beautiful about Ayurveda? What's Pitta? What's Kapha? Links/CTA: Focus on how you want to feel next - Take our Body Goals Assessment Body Thrive™: Uplevel Your Body & Your Life with the 10 Habits from Ayurveda and Yoga Know more about Yogahealer Highlights: Cate explains that the thing that's happening to Vata is because we have the exposed nervous system, and the VUCA world naturally has negative stressors on the mind. So it's going to negatively stress the mind. The whole physiology is trying to smartly evolve. And so it's not going regenerative. Cells that are going mutation are degenerative. And so it's destabilizing to someone who's naturally going to go out of balance towards instability. “ “Any situation where you feel like there's no possible action to take can be a negative stressor.” “The yogi's got this connection of energy production and insight which requires the rest and digest function, that is also important for Pitta to do what it is designed to do.” “Anything that has to do with hyperacidity goes right in the Pitta category.”
‘Ayurveda' is generally understood as ‘Science of life' translating ‘Ayuh (r)'as life and ‘Veda' as science. Ayurveda is an ancient system of life and also the oldest surviving medical system in the world. It is considered to be an ancient science of healing that enhances longevity. Ayurveda embraces all living things, human and Non-human. Ayurveda believes that healthy body is the basis for attaining four cherished goals of life (chaturvidh purushartha) viz., Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha. Positive health is defined as a combination of - (a) Dosha Dhatu samya (b) Prasanna Atma, Indriya, Manah (happy state of the soul, senses and the mind). Senses here mean the five organs of perception Gyanendriya viz., smell, taste, sight, touch, and hearing coupled with the organs of action - Karmendriya viz., mouth, hands, foot and organs of excretion and reproduction. According to Ayurveda, each one of us has a unique mix of three body principals that constitutes our mental, physical and spiritual well-being. These three principals are known as doshas, which are further classified as Vata (air-ether), Kapha (water-earth) and Pitta (water). According to ayurveda, the human body is composed of tissues (dhatus), waste (malas), and biomaterials (doshas). The seven dhatus are plasma (rasa), blood (rakta), muscles (māmsa), fat (meda), bone (asthi), marrow (majja), and semen (shukra). Like the medicine of classical antiquity, Ayurveda has historically divided bodily substances into five classical elements, (Sanskrit) panchamahabhuta, viz. earth, water, fire, air and ether. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/venus-jain3/message

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Sara: Hi! I was just wondering about when the optimal time of day is to take your capsules/supplements. I was wondering if taking them at night before bed might contribute to your GI system being too active similar to eating late, or if taking them in the morning might stimulate the system as well and maybe interrupt a fast. Thank you so much for your time and consideration, I recently discovered you through Sahara Rose's podcast and I feel incredibly grateful for all your hard work and expertise that you share with us. Have a great day! Maria: Long time listener to the show (in fact I haven't missed an episode for nearly two years!) my question is, having low iron levels, I supplement with iron bisglycinate and am curious as to whether this form or iron is heme or non-heme or neither. And whether then pairing this with vitamin C will help with absorption. I have read somewhere that vitamin C only helps the absorption of non-heme iron, curios for your thoughts! Thanks Tracy: Hi Dr. Cabral. Thank you so much for all you do. I no longer listen to music on my way to and from work because I don't want to miss a show. My question today is this: I've recently been diagnosed with a Ventral Hernia. I have had two children and I'm over 40. I know that my lack of exercise after having kids has most likely contributed to this. I also have diastasis recti which I'm currently working on healing. So the question is, Can you heal a hernia naturally. I live a toxin free life and would rather not having a permanent staple in my body. Thank you again Amanda: Hello, What does it mean or is it a sign of that my stomach gets very, very gassy when I lay down to go to sleep, and when I wake up in the morning. The rest of the day I feel normal. It doesn't make a difference when or what I eat. It is a consistent symptom every night, and most mornings. Meagan: Hi Dr. Stephen Cabral. I am a long-time listener of your podcast and follower on Instagram. The information you put out is invaluable! Recernly, I have been diving into ayurvedic medicine and trying to discover my dosha body type. I listened to your first few podcast episodes about this topic and was trying to use your celebrity pictures as an example, but the one body type combination that I think I am —Vata-Kapha female—did not have an example on the show notes page of that episode. I was wondering if you could explain in more detail the difference between the Vata-Pitta dosha and the Vata-Kapha dosha body type. I think I am one of these but can't figure out which one. Thank you! Sara: Thank you for all the years of education and content! I do sauna and hot yoga and I find myself getting pretty dizzy after (when I stand up). If happens even after a hot bath. I've done this heat therapy for years and it's always happened. I read it might be caused by low blood pressure (which I am on the lower side). Wondering if you've heard about this - is it common? Anything I can do besides take extra time before I get up? HouseCall Intro for Libsyn For Saturday Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Jake: Hi Dr. Cabral, I have been really getting into your podcasts on Ayurvedic Medicine, and have really been getting into the doshas/body types. I really am seeing some trends amongst friends, family, and myself depending on body type. I have read a lot of the blood type diet and I am wondering if there are any correlations with Ayurvedic Medicine and blood type or the blood type diet? Thank you! Natalie: Hi Dr. Cabral, I'm hearing a lot of banter around the "meat only" diet. People often reference the inuit communities to support the long term efficacy. I would love to hear your perspective. Thank you so much! Natalie Kylie: Hi Stephen and team, I wanted to make enquiries with regards to your functional lab testing and coaching call included and then also your private concierge practice. I have been suffering with chronic illness for a number of years, two years ago I became so unwell I had to stop working and move back home with my family. With a history of gut issues, constipation, candida, bladder infections, eating disorder etc. The year leading up to moving back home, thyroid issues, loss of periods, strepteccocus overgrowth of 96%, liver congestion and my bowel stopped functioning completely on its own. I have tried many things and always learn to a more wholistic natural approach, I have definitely healed in many ways in the last few years but still my bowel requires daily supplements of herbals to function, I have lost a lot of weight due to not absorbing nutrients, I react easily to food and am on restricted foods no grain, limited protein, just fruit and vegetable all fresh and organic, I also react to many supplements and always have to approach with care, I still have thyroid issues and gut issues, and suffer exhaustion as well as nausea, cramping etc. I have been considering getting some of your tests done and was wondering if the cost is in US dollars? I am in Australia. And also the hair mineral analysis test, this doesn't work if you have coloured hair from hair dye does it? I also wanted to ask what tests you find are most beneficial, I was drawn toward the thyroid, and organic acids testing. But wanted to know what is recommended, cost is a consideration for me as well having spent so much on my health. I also wanted to ask re you private coaching and if this is an option how far in advance it is booked out, and is this also US dollars?I have been looking at your supplements and also different protocols, Saccharoyces boulardii I am actually allergic too and have tried in the past can you not use this if you do get testing and suggestions and perhaps something else be offered. Also how does the call work included in the functional lab tests if you are in Australia with time differences? Is it just one call you get? Thanks so much Kylie Darrell: Hey Dr. Cabral. Great show. Thank you for this. It has been a life changer for me, my family & friends. I'm writing from Tobago. I've used your search bar before asking and haven't seen anything on either Mucuna Pruriens or Shilajit. I heard they're both used un ayurvedic medicine. What are their benefits and do you recommend it for say a male in his late 20's (or anyone for that matter). Javier: Dear, Mr. Cabral. This is Javier (24 years old) from Peru - South America. It was hard to find a person that finally understands my symptoms but finally I found you so far from my country. Let's get to the point. Ive been following a Candida Diet for about 3 months at the request of my doctor. I experienced some kind of improvement the first month but I've felt little progress since then. I continue with the same symptoms: strong fatigue, muscular pains, difficulties from just getting up from the chair, walking and any kind of movements; long list of food sensitivities, but the most surprising fact for me is that I have so many difficulties in talking to people and reading and I also get sick very easily and frequently out of nothing. Ive already listened to some of your podcasts and I have run a Organic Acids Test in Great Plains Laboratory whose results will be ready in about 2 weeks. My question is what can I expect from these weird symptoms that have me deeply worried. I'd also love you to tell me what sources of carbohydrates I am allowed to eat during this Candida Cleanse Diet (maybe beets, carrots, sweet potatoes, berries, maca root, low glycemic fruits?), because I've been on a Keto Diet for 3 months and it seems far too long period of time for me since Im practicing weightlifting 4 days in a week (to keep my health and self-confidence up during this difficult times) and my thyroid profile is kind of low according to some blood tests I did a couple of weeks ago specially my T3 levels (1.81 pg/ml) Thank you so much in advance. Sincerely,Javier Sunny: Hi there! I have two questions: I think that I am a Vata-Pitta body type (primarily Vata), and am struggling to lose weight. In your podcast about diet plans, the Vata plan is geared more towards those who lose weight easily, however I need a plan that focuses on losing weight. So, would starches in the morning and grounding foods still be okay on the diet? Can you give more tips for Vata weight loss? Also, Will you be offering the Dosha body type analysis service to listeners? In one of your previous podcasts, you mentioned that we could send in photos for your team to analyze and come back with the correct dosha body type. I would love this! Adrianne: Dr. Cabral, Do you recommend or have any feedback on ear candling? I did it for the first time a couple weeks ago with positive results, but I would appreciate your thoughts. I was surprised it hadn't come up in 900 episodes. I am 37 years young and getting younger everyday, now that I am armed with your knowledge. The concept of removing toxicities, replacing deficiencies, and re-balancing the body, has been transnational for my family! T h a n k y o u ! Anonymous: Hi, Is it possible to get rid of some (or all) IgE food/environmental allergies? I have gone through some of the previous podcasts where you discuss IgG sensitivities going away after healing the gut, but does that apply to IgE reactions as well? I do not have the financial means to get functional medicine lab testing at this time or to see a functional medicine practitioner, but I am curious to know if, in general, IgE allergies can theoretically go away. If it is not possible for IgE allergies to go away, is it okay to eat the foods I'm mildly allergic to (no anaphylaxis) or should they all be avoided because they will increase inflammation? Thank you so much. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Annie: Hi Dr. Cabral! Huge thanks for all you do and all the free help/advice you offer. I have been binge listening to your podcast over the past couple of weeks. I have really enjoyed how you integrate Ayurveda into your practice. I recently ordered my first 14-day detox and anticipate awesome results! My question is: could you talk about weight gain for Vata/pitta body types? I’m a Vata-Pitta (very thin wrists and ankles, a little broader shoulders, dry skin/hair, bloating and constipation) and have carried extra fat on my belly since around age 8 (I’m 24 now). It looks strange on my body as I am otherwise quite bony and lean. I eat clean and exercise regularly. Could this be excess Vata? I feel it’s not Kapha as it does not change with my diet or exercise and is in such a specific area. Would really appreciate any suggestions as it’s very frustrating and makes me feel insecure - I mean who doesn’t want a flat stomach? Thanks in advance! Elizabeth: Hi Dr Cabral. I love your show and all the valuable information you provide! My question is about afternoon snacking... I find that I eat healthy, whole nutritious foods for the beginning part of my day, but when 3pm rolls around I am ravenous and reach for anything I can get my hands on. It feels like my brain shuts off it’s wellness meter and I get caught up in the moment. I wouldn’t say it’s a binge because it’s not a lot of food... but it definitely feels like a lack of control. Why does this happen? Is there something I should be doing earlier in the day to prevent this? Thanks! Gabriella: Hi Dr. Cabral, First off, thank you for sharing your work and for sharing it with us. I have a question regarding what I was told was pain that started from a virus. The pain in my chest on the left side by my heart. My GP felt the area and told me it was text book costochondritis and that the virus that’s caused it was probably long gone but that the inflammation was still around. He told me to take three Advil a day until the pain went away. I usually refrain from taking Advil especially that much. I was wondering if you had another solution. Thank you, GP Donna: This is somewhat urgent. I’ve been a smoker for over 30 years struggling to completely quit. I’m getting ready to take advantage of your CBD Oil offer for March. Will this help me and do you have a protocol or suggestions for quitting smoking? I have been using the DNS for seven months, completed a 7 day detox, and ready to do a 21 day detox. I eat healthy, exercise and in good health except slightly elevated cholesterol. I will eventually do some testing but need to end this habit now. I prefer this question not be on a podcast or could this be addressed in a most general way as to addiction. If you could help me through a personal email I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise I would like to be anonymous. Thank you so much, Joel: Dr Cabral, my four year old has been complaining of stomach pain just left of his belly button for about 3 months. He originally had a “stomach bug” in November for a few days in which he vomited and wasn’t feeling well. Afterwards he’s continued to complain on average 3 times a day of just general stomach pain. In January he had an incident where he was writhing in pain. We took him to the ER by the time we arrived he said he felt fine. We eat overall pretty healthy Paleo style diet with organic foods overall. I can’t tell if it’s stress or if he’s really got something going on there. I’ve noticed his anxiety increase (gut/brain Or perhaps craving attention cuz we have a 7 month old that takes a lot of our attention noe too). He poops once a day and they are normal. His appetite is normal as well. Would you recommend rotation diet? Could you give a 4 year old CBD? Would you still run an organic acids/allergy test? How would you do a 21 day Cabral detox with a 4 year old? Thanks! Joel Woody: Hi, I'm interested in working with your advisory services. Briefly, 65, healthy, no meds, 180, 6 ft. PSA went from 3 to 6. MRI/biopsy Gleason 7. Urologist wants to destroy. Been following podcasts for awhile, done some research. Overseas business trip mid April through early May and putting off decision. Using Nutraceuticals and intermittent and longer fasting. Jai: Hi Stephen, 3 questions: My girlfriend gets headaches a lot when she is on her period, if she lacks sleep and when stressed, what can we do to prevent this? She also gets swollen breast that are painful to the touch. Yes, she takes birth control. And finally, she has lost about 50 lbs, and would like to lose an additional 10-15 more. She works out 4-5x per week at 45 min each, eats 3-4 balanced meals (protein, fat, carb and veggie), she drinks 1/2 her bodyweight in water or more daily. She is a CNA 4 3rd shifts per month and outside of exercise and the extra activity from being a CNA she is sedentary. She cannot break 139.8 lbs at 5'4" and endomorph body type. What would you suggest? Thanks. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Stephanie: Hello! My husband and I have listened to your podcast for several years. As a personal trainer, I use "A Man's Guide to Fitness" to train all of my weight loss clients. As a nutritionist and health coach, I now run your Organic Acids Test's, IgG and Metals tests and recommend all of your protocols. I do a lot of research and have spent countless hours and days watching videos and reading articles about the OAT's. I know more about bio-chemistry and the Krebs cycle than I ever thought I would! In fact, I'm downright obsessed with the test. However, when I ran my own test it was determined that all of my nutritional markers were fine except my Vitamin C was low (seems to be the case with everyone on this test) and my Vitamin B5 level was high. Pantothenic acid is not one of the vitamins whose high range indicates a deficiency. My question to you is this, "Would it be possible that my B5 is high because it is literally passing through me without being absorbed at all?" I was off the chart for Candida (101) and my Oxalic/Citric acids were off which I think was off due to a calcium deficiency. I found that PH was definitely acidic and I have begun taking your Cal-Mag and now my PH is back to normal. I eat a lot of spinach (thinking that I was getting calcium) but it turns out a high oxalate food like spinach does not provide much calcium and in fact may contribute to a decrease in my calcium absorption. Would the CBO protocol be appropriate for me to rid myself of the Candida? Furthermore, should I run a metals test to determine whether or not I have a build up of metals (I had my amalgams removed back in the late 90's by a regular dentist) since I understand that Candida can bind to metals in the body? Sorry to be so long winded. Thank you. Ayubowan. Linda: Hello, I'm interested in coming up with a nutrition plan, and would like to figure out if I have a food intolerance. Your application form is not secure, and so I did not feel comfortable providing that level of personal information online. Please let me know if there is a written form I can pick up to fill out instead, if I can speak with someone on the phone, or, preferably, set up an appointment. Thank you, Linda Philippa: Hi Dr Cabral. I love your show and since discovering it a couple of weeks ago i have been trying to listen to as many as i can. I have especially enjoyed your shows about Ayurveda and my husband and I have started to implement a lot more Ayurvedic principles into our life. We think that I am a Vata-Pitta (medium height, small wrists, always dry and cold and a tendency to worry a lot) and my husband is a Pitta-Kapha (moderate build, does not do well with hot weather, but very easy-going and can sleep for hours). My question is about food. As i am dominant in Vata i know that my body needs more carbohydrates for fuel and i have found that I do not do well on red meat. However, my husband as a Pitta seems to crave protein and especially red meat. I am not sure what foods to cook now - during the day it is fine as we both have our own breakfasts and eat lunch at work. But at night we eat together at home. Can you recommend any kinds of meals which would work well for both of us? I do not want to end up cooking two meals, but want to make sure we are both nourishing our bodies in the right way. Thank you so much! Joey: Dr. Cabral, Good morning. First of all thank you for everything you do. I sent you a question on Jan 14. I know you say it takes 3-4 weeks. It’s now been five weeks and I just wanted to know if you received my email. I am attaching my email below. Thank you so much. Joey. Dr. Cabral, I am a 39 year old male that’s an ex athlete that still works out everyday. My diet is really good and have been fasting between 12-16 hours a day for about a two years. The last three years I have been spending time coaching basketball in Eastern Europe and in China(4 months). For the past year, I have been having serious lower throat pain that comes and goes usually lasting for weeks. Also while having this pain I get other symptoms such as blurred vision(especially bad in left eye), fatigue, lightheaded when standing up, dizziness, numbness in hands and feet(like they have falling asleep) and just overall really jittery and anxious. Doctor, I just feel off like everyone is moving around me in fast motion. It’s really frustrated because nobody can seem to figure out what’s wrong with me. Anything you can do would be appreciated. Marisa: I'm a 34 year old female and for over 10 years I regularly get cystic painful breakouts around my mouth area during ovulation and sometimes just before my period. My period was always regular. I then became pregnant and started breastfeeding and the breakouts disappeared and I got my great complexion back. My baby is now 8 months and I have started to wean her and my breakouts have returned although my period hasn't come back yet. My blood sugar is within the normal range but at the higher end. Could there be a testosterone link? My body type is slim and slender and I've never had to diet, always been slim but I do have a sweet tooth but otherwise my diet is healthy. I also suffer from constipation. Thank you ever so much! Jeff: Hi Dr. Cabral, A friend of mine had been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. His doctor told him I can not lift weights or even move heavy furniture. I was wondering if you have any insight into this condition that I can pass along to him. My concerns are the effects a lifetime of not being able to step into a gym will have on him down the road. Thanks!! -Jeff Thank you for tuning into this weekend’s Cabral HouseCalls and be sure to check back tomorrow for our Mindset & Motivation Monday show to get your week started off right! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/828 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Lynn: I am about to begin your 21 day detox on Saturday and hoping it will cure me of my cravings, binge eating, weight gain, inflammation, hormonal acne, etc. I am worried that cheat meals after the detox will jump start my bad habits and cravings again. How do I prevent this from happening? Ali: I'm a vata body type with a kapha imbalance (aka, I have more body fat than I should and despite eating clean and working out, sleeping well, etc). I can eat a meal around lunch time and not be hungry again until the next morning after a workout, but I wonder if I'm doing more damage than good hormonally/metabolically...? On the Melissa Ambrosini Podcast you mentioned that you don't recommend intermittent fasting -- but on one of your own podcasts you do say that you recommend the 24 hr fast. Why is 14-16 hours problematic (how is it impacting my hormones), but 24 hours isn't? Is 16 hours still problematic if I don’t feel like I’m stressing my body out or putting it into any kind of starvation mode during that time? I’ll sometimes end that 12-16 hour overnight fast with high-intensity workout in the morning… and I won’t eat until an hour or so after that workout, which usually comes out to 12-16 hours, no problem. Even though I’m not hungry, is that still causing stress to my system and being counterproductive for weight loss? Why is 24-hour fasting one day a week a better thing to do? Isn't that also putting the body into a stress mode? I worry that it would slow my metabolism and be counterproductive to weight loss.. Elisabeth: Hi I was wondering whether sourdough bread and whole grain pastas are considered processed carbs? Are they ok to have in moderation? I will have Mung bean pasta once per week or so and sourdough here and there. I understand that you are not suggesting not to have quinoa, Buckwheat and rice etc but wondering how you feel when they are made into flours and then pancakes etc? Thanks! Tahleah: Hi Dr Cabral I listened to your interview with Melissa Ambrosini and I was not only inspired but also hit with some mega truth. It highlighted what I'd been questioning over the last few months... taking a break from coaching others in order to give back to myself, to re-balance my own constitution, so I can serve more powerfully. I'm passionate about what I do but unfortunately that passion has been weathered... I don't feel as inspired as I used to coach others and that has made me feel really guilty, simply due to a lack of energy. I know this is my path, but the expression of this path is not aligned right now. My personal health has been chaos... dealing with gut health issues, parasites, imbalances, anxiety - mostly due to overworking because of financial stress. For me, my biggest guilt trip has been, not being the full embodiment/example of health I want to be and have full potential to be. But I'm confused, I know what I need to do but I lack energy that I'm just in survival mode... Your episode brought me back to my personal love for Ayurveda; re-visiting my constitution, which is Vata/Pitta. So, I have a few questions... 1. I know there is your constitution you're given at conception, then there is the constitution you're expressing now due to stress. I've dealt with stress for so long, that I'm wondering if Vata/Pitta is even my natural constitution? What is the best way to start re-balancing? I've worked with an amazing Ayurvedic coach and she could tell straight off the bat I was more Vata but was showing Kapha imbalance with the gut health issues. I've improved slightly, no snacking with a regular metabolism which requires me to eat about every 4-5 hours focusing on three meals per day and maybe one light snack in between depending on what I've eaten or how long until I get home to cook. It's been working well but I'm extremely fatigued and still trying to get by, I don't want to live like this. My second question is, what's the best way to do a meal plan based on my body type to re-balance? Do you have any resources that could point me in the right direction? I love your work and will start to listen to your podcast. Thank you so much for being an example of wellness and living your dosha. Much gratitude Tahleah :) Anonymous: Thanks for all the great info! Regarding detox, I take a coffee enima 2-3 days/week. Is any other detrox protocal necessary or will this be sufficent? Lynn: I had a question about your podcast on the benefits of rebounding. Do other jumping exercises such as jump roping or jumping jacks replicate the benefits of a rebounder or is it different? How do they compare? Lisa had the perfect setup for a dreadful menopause. For 20 years, she had been working as a high-powered healthcare consultant with a national management organization i.e. she worked in corporate America. This meant that she was traveling a bunch and entertaining clients late. That kind of work by itself can lead to burnout, depletion and massive menopausal symptoms. To make matters worse, Lisa has a more delicate body type (Vata Pitta if you know anything about Ayurveda), which by nature is prone to more severe menopausal symptoms. And if that wasn’t enough, in her 40s, she decided to go to massage therapy school, yoga teacher training and move to a new town where she knew no one. Yet, despite all these stressors, Lisa experienced hardly any symptoms through the transition. In fact, when her menses disappeared and her naturopath proclaimed menopause had arrived she was surprised. “That was it? No sweat dripping nights, weight gain or moodiness? ” Lisa attributes her successful transition to her yoga and self-care practices. She truly practiced bad ass body wisdom that saved her from a downhill spiral. In this episode, she shares with us how she made that happen. We're back with our 2nd Cabral #HouseCall of the weekend! And just like yesterday's Q&A we're going to be answering another round of community questions sent in by you, our listeners! Here are today's questions: Erika: Dr. Cabral - thanks so much for all of your podcasts. I can't wait to visit your practice in Boston sometime soon. I just had a terrible accident skiing, which involved an IV, ambulance ride, hours in the ER, and 48 hours of oxycodene. My X-rays show that I didn't break anything. I lost my footing going pretty fast in steep terrain on an alpine run and skied fast right into a tree with my left shin. I got an MRI this morning and have been told I have a grade 2 partial tear of my PCL, I also tore my knee capsule, and sprained my MCL. I haven't heard much on this on your podcasts, but was wondering... is there something I can start putting in my diet on a daily basis to help heal the partial tear? I'm really hoping not to have surgery... also what is the top thing you recommend for inflammation of this magnitude? I was a D1, and professional athlete- I work out multiple times a day and am very committed to my recovery. Thanks soooooo much for taking the time to answer my question! Staying positive and hopeful!! Erika Elise: Hello Dr Cabral, I have struggled with anxiety to a certain degree my whole life. It has always been more separation anxiety until after I had my first son three years ago. Since then it has increasingly been changing and getting worse. I often struggle with leaving my "comfort bubble" which I have created in my home town. I say often because it doesn't always happen there are some situation where I can go somewhere and be totally fine. Then other times just trying to drive an hour away becomes extremely difficult/impossible. When the attacks happen it feels like a ball is in my stomach and the more the anxiety grows it feels like roots are growing through my gut. I long to be free and to be able to travel and take my sons places. But I don't exactly know where to start that doesn't involve being medicated. I would love to find a natural solution to actually bring healing to my body as a whole. I have been taking probiotics for years and have changed my diet a bit. I also just recently started taking omega-3 after reading that could help with anxiety. I am just at a loss I don't know where to start. If you have any advice on where to start or any suggestions on what type of blood tests/labs, supplements or diet changes I should look into I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much. Debbie: Hello, I just recently found your podcasts and am loving them! Is it possible for you to send me the PDF downloads from episode #292? When I click on them they are expired. Thanks and keep up the great work! Debbie Tom: Hi Dr. Cabral, I recently purchased the Prakriti book you had made a book review of in one of your earlier podcasts. After doing the test to figure out my constitution, I discovered that I'm a PItta with Vata as secondary. I also remember you had mentioned that you as well are Vata-PItta. My question is about nutrition. How strictly do you follow the nutritional guidelines Dr. Svoboda mentions? Do you follow a vata pacifying diet in winter and pitta pacifying in summer? I'm just finding it hard to follow this protocol. How strict should I be with this? Thank you! Lauren: Hi Stephen, Thank you for your great podcast. It is my go-to. You may have already discussed Magnesium but, I was wondering if you had a preference. I have heard good things about Life Extension magnesium citrate and Pure magnesium Glycerite. I generally want to take magnesium for overall health as well as for my back pain and heart health. Can you please advise? Thanks Wellness Catalyst: Love your posts and podcasts. My question is "Is a liver and gallstone flush necessary and if so what protocol do you recommend?" You probably already covered this but what protocol do you recommend for a child with severe eczema? Thanks for including that book review on Friday, great minds seem to enjoy similar things including books! Many blessings, your contributions are greatly appreciated- Belinda: Hi Stephen, I just got back from India, Mysore where I have completed a month long 200h yoga teacher training. While it has been an amazing experience, I feel it has also left me broken. We had approximately 3-4h yoga per day which wasn't the problem but we were probably sitting cross legged at least 2h per day for meditation, pranayama, etc on the floor as well and on the last day we did 108 sun salutations (quite proud I managed to get through that). Anyway, my knees hurt really badly and my wrists hurt as well. Nothing is visibly swollen and I can walk and jump without pain. It's when I sit down or want to do sun salutations at home that there is this this point when I bend my knee that I have excruciating pain. Been given an oil by an ayurvedic doc which I use, but doesn't seem to cut it. The ayurvedic doc also said I should eat a lot of ghee to lubricate my joints as I am predominantly Vata +++ Kapha ++ Pitta +. This is all great and I do believe in Ayurveda, but I am worried that eating ghee and turmeric won't help. Another important thing to mention is that once my body seems to have warmed up i.e after 12 rounds of painful sun salutations, I'm fine, pain free and can then continue. Then it hurts again afterwards. I will give my body some rest, but also don't want to lose muscle memory. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks so much! Belinda I hope you enjoyed this weekend's Q&A and all the tips added in along the way! - - - Show Notes: http://StephenCabral.com/422 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral
