A Diocese de Criciúma se prepara para um momento histórico neste sábado, às 9h, com a ordenação episcopal do Monsenhor Milton Zonta. A cerimônia será realizada na Basílica Santuário Sagrado Coração Misericordioso de Jesus, em Içara, e marcará sua nomeação oficial como bispo coadjutor da diocese. Ao assumir a nova função, Dom Milton Zonta passará a atuar ao lado de Dom Jacinto Inácio Flach ao longo deste ano. O objetivo é conhecer de perto as demandas e a realidade da Igreja local, promovendo uma transição gradual na liderança da diocese. De acordo com o padre Antônio Vander da Silva, reitor do santuário e ecônomo da diocese, a expectativa é de que mais de 5 mil pessoas participem da celebração, vindas de diversas regiões do Brasil e também do exterior. Segundo ele, o evento contará com a presença de padres, bispos e fiéis de diferentes países, como Tanzânia, Itália, Espanha, Uruguai e Colômbia, além de representantes da Igreja vindos até mesmo da África. “Será um dia em que o nosso santuário se tornará internacional, pela presença significativa de pessoas de tantos lugares diferentes”, destacou. A celebração será presidida pelo cardeal Dom Jaime Spengler, arcebispo de Porto Alegre e presidente da Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil, com a participação de Dom Cleocir Bonetti e do próprio Dom Jacinto Inácio Flach.

A Diocese de Criciúma contará com um bispo coadjutor para auxiliar e, futuramente, suceder o atual bispo diocesano, Dom Jacinto Inácio Flach. O Papa Leão XIV nomeou o Monsenhor Milton Zonta, de 65 anos, natural de Videira, no Oeste de Santa Catarina, para assumir a nova missão episcopal. O anúncio oficial foi realizado no dia 30 de dezembro pelo Vaticano, pela Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil (CNBB) e pela própria Diocese de Criciúma. A nomeação ocorre em preparação para a sucessão de Dom Jacinto, que deverá deixar o cargo ao completar 75 anos de idade, em 2027, após a aceitação de sua carta de renúncia pelo Papa, conforme determina o Direito Canônico. Monsenhor Milton Zonta deverá ser ordenado bispo no dia 21 de março de 2026. A partir de então, passará a atuar na Diocese de Criciúma como bispo coadjutor, acompanhando Dom Jacinto Inácio Flach durante o período de transição e colaborando com as atividades pastorais e administrativas da Igreja local. Em entrevista ao programa Cruz de Malta Notícias, nesta sexta-feira (2), Monsenhor Milton Zonta falou sobre a nova missão e afirmou que se sente enviado como missionário para a Diocese de Criciúma.
