What is your heart reaction when trials come in your lives? Okay, now that you know how you should answer, ask how you genuinely react when trials come your way, and then tune in to hear how Paul and Silas responded. If we're only thankful when things go our way, we're missing the point of unconditional gratitude.
Dana and David go deep on the 28-minute bathroom break David witness and why the restroom might be the best place to make friends. Plus fresh SNL reactions and why that show needs a reality-show. Then David recaps the Canelo vs. Crawford fight in Vegas surrounded by megastars, with a Charlie Sheen sighting. David drops a killer Jason Statham impression and the guys kick around what Trump's up to in the U.K. They finish off with the weird-news wave from “the first woman on Mars” to how comedians worked the Middle Ages. This week: The Moon is quiet (no major lunation), but the Sun and Mars are busy! Mars enters Scorpio, one of the signs of his rulership, and is strengthened for his hard interaction with Pluto in Aquarius. The Sun enters the Libra, and its equinox initiates autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The Sun opposes sensitive Neptune and combines forces with Uranus and Pluto. And a listener question about self-care and your birth chart. Plus: Sweater weather, spilled perfume, and the battle between will and won't! Read a full transcript of this episode. It's eclipse season! Order your copy of my "Followed by a Moonshadow" eclipse report! Have a question you'd like answered on the show? Email April or leave it here! Subscribe to April's mailing list and get a free lunar workbook at each New Moon! Timestamps [1:31] Mars enters Scorpio (Sep. 22, 12:55 am PDT, through Nov. 4). Scorpio is one of the strongest signs for Mars, fierce on behalf of those in need, and good for work, especially research projects and resolving conflicts. [3:26] The Sun enters Libra (Sep. 22, 11:19 am PDT, until Oct. 22). This marks the autumn equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, vernal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. Focus on cooperating with others, avoid excess, and get your life in balance. [5:53] The Sun opposes Neptune (Sep. 23, 5:53 am PDT, 0°45' Libra-Aries). When the Sun is in aspect to Neptune, sensitivity is high, clarity low. Safeguard your health. Good for artistic expression and spirituality exploration. [7:21] Moon Report! There is no major lunation this week, but let's look at the Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On Tues. Sep. 23 (9:02 am PDT), the Moon squares Jupiter in Libra-Cancer. It's VOC for 16 hours, 58 minutes, then enters Scorpio on Wed. Sep. 24 (2 am PDT). There could be a conflict concerning your family and how they get along with your significant other. [8:35] On Fri., Sep. 26, the Moon trines Saturn in Scorpio-Pisces (10:44 am PDT). It's VOC for 3 hours 53 minutes before it enters Sagittarius (2:37 pm PDT). Enjoy getting important things done and trusting others to help out. [10:11] The Sun trines Uranus (Sep. 23, 7:55 pm PDT, 1°19' Libra-Gemini), an aspect of personal change and reinvention. New possibilities coming our way via those who make us feel included and appreciate us for exactly who we are, but allow us to try something different. [12:00] The Sun trines Pluto on Tues, Sep. 23 (11:05 pm PDT) at 1°27' Libra-Aquarius. Everything is intensified, and we don't feel neutral about anything. This can be an interesting day for powerful opportunities. [13:56] Mars squares Pluto (Sep. 24, 4:51 am PDT) at 1°27' Scorpio-Aquarius. Mars is on the Sabian symbol 2 Scorpio, A broken bottle and spilled perfume. Pluto is on 2 Aquarius, An unexpected thunderstorm. Mars is our will and Pluto represents the “won't”: forces that stand in our way of getting what we want. Resist the unexpected thunderstorm of emotions that can erupt when you feel denied and frustrated. [16:24] Listener Ann asks about astrology and self-care. Check out Dana Gerhart's website, Mooncircles.com, for the current lunar phase. At the weekend memorial to remember Charlie Kirk, President Trump pointed out their differences saying that while Kirk didn't hate his enemies or want bad things to happen to them, Trump does hate his enemies and wants bad things to happen to them. The eulogy quickly shifted into a Trump rally instead of the somber celebration of life it was intended to be. Ireland's fascination with the cosmos takes centre stage from 4-10 October 2025 as Space Week Ireland returns with a new theme, "Living in Space." Coordinated by MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory (BCO), the week invites students, families, community groups, artists, engineers and the wider space community to explore how life on Earth can inform life beyond it - from caves and controlled habitats to stars, galaxies, black holes and supernovas. Many events are free, with others ticketed locally. The programme blasts off with a Space Week Roadtrip, bringing astronauts and science communicators directly into communities across the country to spark imagination and curiosity. Former NASA astronaut Dan Tani will be joined on the road by Dr. Niall Smith, Head of Research, MTU and Head of Blackrock Castle Observatory, for a series of public and school engagements across Cork, Kerry and Limerick from Saturday 4 to Tuesday 7 October. Space Week Ireland celebrations get underway on Saturday 4 October (10:00-13:00) with a family-friendly Space Week Festival at the Cork School of Music.. Audiences will hear first-hand about life in space from Dan Tani, delve into the hazards of space living with Dr. Lisa McNamee, and explore the impact of high-energy particles (like the sun) on human health with Dr Josh Reynolds. Interactive displays and hands-on workshops will bring science to life for children and families. On Monday 6 October, the Road Trip visits Tralee Library, Co. Kerry for a special primary school session titled 'Living in Space, with NASA astronaut Dan Tani and astronomer Dr. Niall Smith' (10am-1.30pm) Join NASA Astronaut Dan Tani as he shares his experiences from living onboard the international Space Station (ISS) and Dr. Niall Smith, an astronomer and space scientist about the future prospects of living in space. That evening at 7pm the team arrives at the University of Limerick for a public event hosted with the UL Rocketry Society. The Limerick programme continues on Tuesday 7 October at Mary Immaculate College, with primary school sessions followed by a general public talk on the topic of living in space (1.10-1.55pm). Further Space Week events - including talks, workshops and stargazing nights - will run nationwide. Highlights include an ESERO Ireland Space Careers Roadshow at MTU Blackrock Castle Observatory in Cork, a NASA Space Apps event in Athlone, Space Week activities at Galway Atlantaquaria, and "The Stars and the Universe Beyond" evening at Maynooth University. Explore the full programme at spaceweek.ie/events. Each event opens a doorway to larger questions: how extreme conditions shape resilience, how we might design to survive, and how Ireland's next generation can chart unlimited pathways - through the joy of space-related hobbies or through research and careers in STEM and the space industry. "Living and working in space is one of the most extraordinary experiences a human being can have," said Dan Tani, former NASA astronaut. "You see Earth from orbit and realise how fragile and beautiful it really is. Being involved with the Space Week Ireland Road Trip gives me the chance to share that perspective - not just the adventure of floating in zero gravity, but the ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience it takes to thrive in such an extreme environment. I hope it inspires students here in Ireland to see themselves as part of humanity's journey to the stars." Dr. Niall Smith commented; "The challenge of living in space is moving from short-term habitability of a small number of people in space stations to longer term colonisation of villages of people on the Moon and ultimately Mars and perhaps beyond. There are enormous challenges in meeting this vision to become a multi-planet species, but equally there are enormous opportunities. Rarely has human living in space been more exciting." In addition to in-person events, the public can follow the Space Week Ireland Road Trip virtually via the BCO YouTube channel. Viewers ...
Our guest today is none other than Atul Kochhar, the genius who redefined Indian cuisine in Britain and became the first Indian chef in the world to win a Michelin star. You'll hear Atul laugh about an American guest who demanded “the spiciest dish you can make”—only to then bring his own vial of mysterious black liquid so fiery it nearly sent Atul to Mars. You'll hear the story of him landing in London over 30 years ago, shocked at the state of “curry houses,” and how he helped transform the UK's perception of Indian food from late-night lager fodder to multi-course, white-tablecloth artistry.Atul also opens up about the education that made him: growing up in a Punjabi-Bihari household in Jamshedpur, where neighbours from every corner of India introduced him to a mosaic of regional flavours; moving as a teenager with a single iron trunk to Chennai, where he fell in love with idlis, dosas, and the tang of tamarind; and the brutal but life-changing discipline of the Oberoi Hotel kitchens, where he worked under Thai, Chinese, and French Michelin-starred chefs. These years gave him the precision, speed, and ingredient-driven ethos that he would later use to revolutionise Indian fine dining. And then there's the leap of faith that changed everything: being scouted to London, helping launch Tamarind, and winning that fateful Michelin star. Atul recalls the dizzying pride of the moment—how overnight he became a national hero in India, and how his father, a catering man who'd seen failure more than once, inspired him to push forward even when the business of running restaurants nearly broke him. From early struggles with sourcing the right onions in Britain to discovering the joys of cooking with venison, hare, and game birds, his stories are as textured as the dishes he plates.Of course, no Atul story is complete without the drama of restaurant life. He shares nightmare days where gas pipes flooded on a Saturday service, or worse—the devastating fire that shut down his flagship for six months. He remembers the pain of sitting helpless in insurance limbo, and the joy of loyal friends and partners who stepped in to keep his dream alive. There's humour too—like the “rudest customer” who managed to be offended even when given a bigger table on their anniversary, or his bemusement at Britain's national dish, chicken tikka masala, which he insists is delicious but—make no mistake—a British invention. Atul speaks candidly about adapting menus for a world where more diners are on weight-loss drugs, why smaller plates and non-alcoholic cocktails are the future, and how he sees the new wave of Indian chefs in India itself taking innovation to dazzling heights. There are also tender moments: memories of litti chokha eaten by hand and soaked in ghee, evenings when six Thai chefs “adopted” him as their little brother in Delhi, and the bittersweet guidance of Mrs Khanna, the royal-blooded matriarch who taught him the secrets of true Patiala cuisine.--------- Hosted on Acast. We're crawling out of Eclipse season looking like we just survived a car crash in slow motion, and the universe decides NOW is when we should renegotiate all our relationship contracts. Classic. The Solar Eclipse in Virgo on Sunday was the final fuck-you from a month that already felt like being put through a cosmic blender on the "pulverize" setting. But here's the thing - we're not the same people we were at the beginning of September. We've been forcibly renovated, and now Libra season wants us to figure out how to relate to other humans with our new wiring. This isn't your regular "let's all get along" Libra season. Mars is finally escaping Libra (where it's been absolutely miserable) and sliding into Scorpio where it can be its intense, obsessive self. Meanwhile, the Sun's first move in Libra is to immediately connect with all three outer planets that changed signs this year - Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto. It's like the universe is saying: remember all that change we forced on you? Time to actually DO something with it, specifically in how you deal with other people.Key moments of the week:Sun, Sept. 21: Sun in Virgo opposes Saturn in PiscesSun, Sept. 21: Solar Eclipse in VirgoSun, Sept. 21: Sun in Libra opposes Saturn in AriesMon, Sept. 22: Sun enters LibraMon, Sept. 22: Mars enters ScorpioTues, Sept. 23: Sun in Libra opposes Neptune in AriesTues, Sept. 23: Sun in Libra trines Uranus in GeminiWed, Sept. 24: Sun in Libra trines Pluto in AquariusWed, Sept. 24: Mars in Scorpio squares Pluto in AquariusTo read your, your kids', and your co-parents' daily horoscopes for this week, along with the detailed daily insights throughout the week, and personalized insights for every transit going on right now (plus deep dive parenting guides based on your specific chart and your kids' charts), pop over to the website or either app store:Get started on the websiteiPhone and iPad appsAndroid app
Falsities from evil Arcana Coelestia 7689 ... the evil have no truth by faith, but only the memory-knowledge of the truth which is of faith. Some evil men who are in the church persuade themselves that they are in truth by faith, but they are not; they are in falsity, and are against the truth of faith. That they are in falsity is hidden with them so long as they are in the world, but this hidden falsity comes forth and manifests itself in the other life when they are being devastated as to the truths of faith which they had known. They who are not willing that others should know what they speak, pass judgment on others AC 7747. Afterward the spirits of Mars inflowed from above into my face. The influx felt like a light rain falling in streaks, which was a sign that they were not in the affection of truth and good, for this is represented by what is streaked. They then spoke plainly with me, saying that the inhabitants of their earth so speak with one another. They were then told that this is evil, because in this way they obstruct internal things, and recede from them to external ones, which they also deprive of their life; and especially because it is not sincere to speak so, for they who are sincere do not wish to speak or even think anything which others may not know, yea, all others, and even the whole heaven; whereas they who are not willing that others should know what they speak, pass judgment on others, think ill of them and well of themselves, and at last contract such a habit that they think and speak ill even of the church, of heaven, nay, of the Lord Himself. On darkness, light and the Lord's coming bringing judgement AC 7711. And there shall be thick darkness over the land of Egypt. That this signifies a complete privation of truth and good, is evident from the signification of “thick darkness,” as being a complete privation of truth and good. In various places in the Word mention is made of “darkness” and also at the same time of “thick darkness,” and then “darkness” is predicated of falsity, and “thick darkness” of evil together with it. But the word by which “thick darkness” is expressed in this verse means the densest darkness, by which in the internal sense are signified such falsities as spring from evil. Such falsities arise with those who have been of the church, and have lived a life of evil contrary to the precepts of faith which they have known. The evil from which these falsities spring, is against the church, against heaven, and against the Lord, thus is diametrically against good and truth. This state is now described by “thick darkness.” [2] That in the Word both “darkness” and “thick darkness” are mentioned together, and that “darkness” then denotes the privation of truth, and thick darkness the privation of both truth and good, can he seen from the following passages. In Isaiah: Judgment is far from us, and righteousness overtaketh us not; we await the light, but behold darkness; and brightnesses, but we walk in thick darkness. We grope for the wall like the blind, yea, we grope as they that have no eyes; we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; among the living we are as the dead (Isaiah 59:9-10); “judgment is far from us,” and “righteousness overtaketh us not,” denotes that there is neither truth nor good; (that “judgment” is predicated of truth, and “righteousness” of good, see n. 2235, 3997); “to await the light” denotes to await truth; and “to await brightnesses” denotes to await the good of truth, for the brightness of light is from good. That “darkness” is here opposed to “light” and “judgment,” thus to truth; and that “thick darkness” is opposed to “brightness” and “righteousness,” thus to good, is evident; and therefore “darkness” denotes the privation of truth, and “thick darkness,” the privation of both truth and good. In Amos: Is not the day of Jehovah darkness, and not light? and thick darkness and no brightness in it?

Happy Saturn’s Day – the day of the week named for Saturn, the second-largest planet in the solar system. And the name is especially fitting today, because the planet is at its best for the entire year. It looks like a bright star, shining all night long. The seven-day week was created in ancient Babylon. The days were named for the seven known “planets.” The list included the Sun, Moon, and the five true planets that are easily visible to the naked eye. The day was split into 24 hours, with each hour named for a planet. The planets were ranked by how long it took them to cross through the background of stars. Saturn takes the longest, so it was number one on the list. Each day was named for the planet that came up in the first hour of that day. So “Saturn’s Day” was the first day of the week. That changed later on, especially in the Christian era, when the week began a day later, on the Sun’s Day – Sunday. Other than Saturn and the Sun and Moon- Saturday, Sunday, and Monday – old English adopted the planet names from the Norse pantheon of gods. Tuesday is named for Tiw – the representation of Mars. It’s followed by Woden, Thor, and Freya – Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus – celestial names for the days of the week. Saturn is low in the east at nightfall, and looks like a bright star. It climbs high across the south later on, and sets around sunrise. We’ll talk about Saturn’s rings tomorrow. Script by Damond Benningfield

Billions of years ago, Mars may have looked less like the barren red desert we know today and more like Earth—with a blue sky, flowing rivers, and even seas. What happened to turn a once-habitable world into the frozen, lifeless planet we see now?On this episode of Big Brains, University of Chicago geophysical scientist Edwin Kite takes us on a journey through Mars' hidden past. From evidence of a lost carbon cycle to theories about ancient climate swings, Kite's research is rewriting the story of the Red Planet. But it's not just about the past—his work is also at the forefront of a provocative question: could humanity one day terraform Mars and make it a living world again? These are the sounds of Mars: a dust devil … a rover trundling across the surface … the steady sigh of the wind. All of these sounds were recorded by the Perseverance rover – the first craft to carry microphones to Mars. Scientists have used the recordings to learn more about how sound carries on Mars. The planet’s atmosphere is less than one percent as thick as Earth’s atmosphere, so it’s much quieter on Mars. It’s especially quiet around noon, when sound waves are bent upward, away from the ground. The atmosphere is also much colder than Earth’s, and it’s made mainly of carbon dioxide. Combined with the air’s low density, on average, sound travels about 30 percent slower on Mars. And there’s a big difference in both the speed and distance at which different frequencies travel. Higher frequencies die out more quickly, and they move slower. So if you wanted to carry on a conversation – if you could survive without a spacesuit, of course – you’d want a nice, deep voice. Mars is disappearing in the evening twilight. From the northern part of the country, in fact, it’s probably too low in the twilight to see at all. From south of about Dallas, it looks like a moderately bright star quite low in the west-southwest as twilight begins to fade – silently dropping from sight. Script by Damond Benningfield
Hi everyone, first and foremost - notice to my friends with misophonia. I am getting over being sick and officially a mouth breather. ****Correction: At some point I mention Plutos transit and accidentally say it will be in Cap until 2024. What I intended to say is 2040. Pluto will be in Capricorn until 2040. ****In this episode, we explore the transformative Solar Eclipse in Uttara Phalguni—a nakshatra connected to friendship, friendliness, and favors. How can we embrace one another in a time of darkness and divide? How can we stay grounded and clear when there are so many messages designed to instill outrage? We dive into Mars' transit through Libra, a placement that calls us to learn the art of balance and diplomacy, even in turbulent circumstances. What does it mean to stand strong in your truth while remaining fair, open-hearted, and collaborative? We discuss Rahus transit through Aquarius and the incredibly important attention it is bringing to freedom of speech and humanitarian causes. Not mentioned in the podcast is the West Coast Health Alliance, and how this is a demonstration of both Rahu in Aquarius AND Mars/Saturn opposition in Virgo and Pisces. Along with these themes, we review other astrological ongoings and how they shape our personal and collective journeys. This episode is an invitation to embrace equanimity and remember that light is always present—especially when we decide to lead from the heart.
