34 - Go Play in the Puddles with Ricardo Martinez Ricardo Martinez II has one of the biggest 9-1-1 related podcasts out there. He's the founder of the #IAM911 movement and the host of the Dare to be Great virtual events for 911 professionals, plus he loves to play in puddles with his kids. He's my guest today on the podcast... ABOUT THE GUEST Ricardo Martinez II is a creative individual who is using his skills in writing, design, and podcasting to tell the stories of those he works with. For 13 years he has answered the call of a 9-1-1 dispatcher and recently accepted a new position with INdigital telecom as a 9-1-1 systems trainer and designer. Throughout his years in dispatch he was able to go to school where he received an Associate's in web development through Baker College, a Bachelor's in graphic design through Full Sail University as well as a Master's in new media journalism in March of 2013. Before starting his Master's program he launched Jabber Log, a blog about current events and his life stories. His personal blog posts became a hit with his audience and one such post even appeared on WordPress.com's “Freshly Pressed” section on their main page. From there his blog opened doors that included promotions for businesses, artists and musicians. Once he started his Master's program he began doing multimedia stories that can be found on his YouTube channel. Through this program he discovered podcasting. It spawned a series that tells the stories of those in the field of emergency services. He then created a podcast version of a segment on his blog called Within the Trenches, a section of writing based on his experience as a 9-1-1 dispatcher. He launched Kickstarter campaign to raise $1,500 for the equipment needed for a show that would feature the stories of 9-1-1 dispatchers. The campaign was funded and can now be found at www.thejabberlog.com. His goal is to tell the story of everyone he meets. “I believe that everyone has a story to tell. I want to do everything I can to bring that story to life.” - Ricardo Connect with Ricardo: https://www.liinks.co/wttpodcast Get the book: Imagine Listening: Your worst day is our everyday (#IAM911) +++++ FIRST RESPONDER WELLNESS PODCAST/PTSD911 MOVIE Web site: https://ptsd911movie.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ptsd911movie/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ptsd911movie/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClQ8jxjxYqHgFQixBK4Bl0Q Purchase the PTSD911 film for your public safety agency or organization: https://ptsd911.myshopify.com/products/toolkit The First Responder Wellness Podcast is a production of ConjoStudios, LLC Copyright ©2024 ConjoStudios, LLC All rights reserved.

Election law ... and the courts ... dominate politics as we begin 2024: Michigan's redistricting re-do - what, why, and how! The Supreme Court's challenge from conflicting decisions on Trump's ballot access A separate Supreme Court challenge on whether the President is above the law … or, as Nixon famously told David Frost decades ago "but when the President does it, that means that it's not illegal" Also this week: Another candidate steps up to succeed Dan Kildee in Congress, and immediately becomes the Democratic frontrunner Kristina Karamo's days as Michigan Republican Party chair may be numbered And a new report illustrates how Donald Trump and his family used the U.S. government to rake in millions for their businesses. John Bebow (Bridge Michigan photo) We're joined by award-winning journalist John Bebow. Bebow began his journalism career on a bike delivering newspapers and ended it playing an instrumental role in shaping Michigan's modern media industry. Bebow, 56, stepped down at the end of 2023 from his role as publisher of Bridge Michigan, a publication that under his leadership won more than 200 state and national awards and was lauded as a national model for economic viability in nonprofit news. He will remain as an executive adviser through 2025. He had crucial roles in some of the biggest changes in Michigan media over the past 25 years, from uncovering corruption in Detroit as a reporter and helping launch the MLive online news site to launching and growing Bridge Michigan and its sister publication, BridgeDetroit. In 2006, Bebow was the first employee of The Center for Michigan, that launched what was then Bridge Magazine in 2011. When the latest round of expansion concludes this month, Bridge and the Center will have more than two dozen full-time employees, with offices in Ypsilanti and Lansing and a more than $4 million annual budget. “It is exponentially more rewarding than any story that ever appeared under my byline,” Bebow said of Bridge's growth. “It's so far beyond my wildest dreams, it would have taken me two bottles of Jack Daniel's to have dreamed up the ridiculous success that has happened.” Bebow has had ink in his blood since middle school, when he delivered the Lansing State Journal on a route in his Ingham County hometown of Mason. After graduating from Western Michigan University, he worked at the Lansing State Journal, Traverse City Record-Eagle and Ann Arbor News before joining The Detroit News. There, he covered the mob, corruption in casino development and troubles in the city water department. He deployed to Iraq to cover the war for the News in 2003, and was injured in a military truck mishap. After a stint at the Chicago Tribune, John returned to his home state, where, for the Detroit Free Press, he investigated Baker College. Bebow was part of the launch of MLive, which served as an early model for publications moving stories online. There, he rose to become editor in chief. “Without John Bebow, there is no Bridge Michigan,” said David Egner, CEO of the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation. (Bridge photo by Brayan Gutierrez) At Bridge, the former investigative reporter became a prolific fundraiser, a shrewd accountant, and a boss that demanded the best of his employees while sticking to a mantra of “family first,” giving staffers generous time off to deal with family issues. “I have tremendous admiration and respect for my colleagues,” he said. “I lit a lot of fires, (but) I think a lot of that was needed at various points to get to where we are today. It was the product and the impact that were first and foremost.” By almost any measure, those efforts worked. The initial goal of Bridge in 2011 was to reach 10,000 Michigan residents. By 2022, annual readership had swelled to 7.8 million. In 2024, there will be about 20 journalists putting out at least six online editions and five newsletters every we...

This an episode that got very personal for the two of us, but Jennifer took it even more personally. What an amazing moment to have a candid conversation about physical therapy, exercise and Multiple Sclerosis with Heather Schoen – the first physical therapist Jennifer saw shortly after she was diagnosed with MS more than 25 years ago. Heather is the Director of Clinical Education of the PTA Program at Baker College in Owosso, Michigan. The connection between Jennifer and Heather didn't end when the last of the prescribed PT sessions concluded. No, they've remained dear friends for the more than two decades that have followed. How dear? How about the fact that Heather attended our wedding in 2005, has been a member of Jennifer's Walk MS team each year since it began in 1998 and will join us again this year for Walk MS in Frankenmuth. Join us as we chat with Heather and get her professional insights into the value of PT and exercise for people living with MS through questions such as what exercise she recommends, why patients with MS need to exercise and what are the safety issues people with MS need to consider? Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Episode 54 – Emmy Vadnais, OTR/L interviews Jen Willoughby Vogtmann, OTD, OTR/L about "Stress Resilience and Wellbeing" on 1/12/22. Jen Willoughby Vogtmann, OTD, OTR/L shares findings from her recent research study that was co-authored with Ingrid Provident, EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA, "Building Stress Resilience and Wellbeing: Introducing Mindfulness Training to Reduce Stress in Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Students." This study was statistically significant with helping participants (OT students) lower their perceived stress levels. Occupational Therapy students were able to feel more calm, engage more mindfully in every day activities, and be able to respond vs. react in situations. Students requested that meditations accompany the beginning of each class. She hopes to see calming activities, such as meditation, breath work, and mindfulness incorporated into occupational therapy curricula and all school programs. She shared evidence that children as young as pre-school age can begin using these activities to build stress resilience and wellbeing throughout life. Jen Willoughby Vogtmann, OTD, OTR/L, is an Occupational Therapist, Reiki Master and Teacher, and Associate Professor in the school of occupational therapy at Baker College with 18 years of clinical practice. She teaches Complementary Therapies, Wellness, and Occupation. Jen has a private practice and blends her Holistic Healing Training into her services. After dealing with the death of her own father, stepmom, and her husband's parents, Jen recognized a void in services and identified a growing need for OT's to support engagement among people living with life limiting illnesses and their families. As a result, Jen specializes in wellness, aging in place, legacy building and end-of-life plans well in advance for clients in her practice. Defeat The Breach (defeatthebreach.org) is a cybersecurity awareness coalition of partners from IT, legal and public relations specialists bringing awareness and solutions to one single place! About Defeat the Breach: It is predicted that in a couple short years, cybercrime will cost the global economy trillions of dollars. In 2017 alone, cyberattack-related costs for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) equaled over $2.2 million each. Furthermore, over 60% of SMBs go out of business within six months of a major cyberattack. The founding members of the Defeat the Breach Coalition saw these statistics and decided that something had to be done. The Defeat the Breach Coalition is a multidisciplinary alliance of professionals who are experts in their chosen fields, working together to protect SMBs from every aspect of a cyberattack. The Coalition's members are so committed to defeating the breach that we offer many of our services free of charge. Why partner with the DBC? There is no shortage of IT service providers that claim to protect business networks from cybercrime, but what about the fallout that affects other parts of the company? Remember that $2.2 million figure? Only about half of that average loss was the result of damage or theft of IT assets, while the other half came from loss of productivity, disrupted operations, shattered customer confidence, lawsuits, fines, and other related problems. When you partner with the DBC our cybersecurity technicians will protect your systems, our legal team will protect your rights, and our public relations division will protect your reputation.

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: As a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist, not a day goes by that I don’t have to address the importance of rest with my patients struggling from medical and mental health disorders ranging from ADHD to post-concussion syndrome. As a society that is now driven to better and faster technology, rest has become a lost art, but no less fundamentally important to our physical emotional, cognitive, and spiritual well-being. God granted us both time and the model of rest for our good, yet we’ve come to treat it as a weakness or a punishment. If you have ever felt worn out, weary, and longing for more, then today is the perfect show for you. In this episode, Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith and I talked not just about the importance of rest, but about the different types of rest (and some of them might surprise you). As a neuropsychologist, I’m frequently interviewed about what we can do to help our physical and emotional well-being, and Dr. Dalton-Smith and I talked about the importance of rest to help us be more productive and more creative. We think we can accomplish more by doing more and skimping on rest, but the opposite is true. Quotables from the episode: Often, obeying God’s command to rest takes a step of faith. When God gives us a command to rest, it is for our good. It is opening up room for something better. But so often we are unwilling to trust Him in that process. We keep trying to grab on to the small blessings, but it keeps Him from giving us the really big one coming our way. We tend to treat rest as if that’s an indulgence. Sometimes God has to take us to the place where we are at the lowest of the low in order for us to hear His voice. When we are so busy, and not taking time to adequately enter His rest, the business drowns out His voice from our ears We can get so busy that we have a religious relationship with God but no true personal relationship There are seven types of rest: physical rest (active and passive) mental rest (the easiest way to know you don’t have it is when you lie down to go to sleep at night but you can’t turn your brain off) emotional rest (rest that comes from being able to be very truthful and authentic; being able to say what you mean without having to censor your words) spiritual rest (breaking away from a religious relationship with God and focusing on intimacy with God; spending time in His presence to worship Him) social rest (understanding which people are draining in your life, and which ones are more life giving and make you feel better just by being around them; social rest is rest from the presence of others) sensory rest (taking breaks from sensory stimulation like the tv, radio, lights, being touched) creative rest (comes from allowing yourself the space to appreciate beauty) People often need to make a mindset shift: rest is really about restoration. Jesus perfectly modeled rest for us. He frequently pulled away for a time to rest. He modeled that even in ministry, it’s okay to set aside time to rest. Rest seems like it should be a simple process but so many people struggle with fatigue and insomnia because we don’t realize exactly what kind of rest we need. The type of rest you need, may not be the type you think you need. You can be a constant producer of a lot of goodness in your life, without ever taking time to taste the sweetness of the things you’re producing. Taking a Sabbath is difficult for so many because they cram so much into their life that it would be overwhelming to think of taking an entire day off each week, but if they could even start with an hour or a couple of hours and get used to that, then they might get to the point where they can take an entire day of Sabbath rest. Most of us need to start thinking of rest as a lifestyle. Rest actually helps you be more productive, because your joy level stays up, your energy levels stay up. Emotional rest is when you longer feel the need to perform. To take time to rest during the day, take time to analyze how your body feels throughout the day. Get up every 60-90 minutes and move around to make sure you aren’t staying in the same position for long periods of time. Incorporate physical rest by assessing whether or not you are experiencing any pain or discomfort in your body. Do some stretches or close your eyes for a few moments to alleviate eye strain. Bring something beautiful or encouraging into your physical space with you. We have a choice to make. Matthew 11:28 says “come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” It’s an invitation. Once you choose to accept that invitation, Jesus will carry that burden for us. Scripture References: Isaiah 30:15 This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. Hebrews 4:11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. Matthew 11:28-30 MSG “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Recommended Resources: Free rest assessment at https://ichoosemybestlife.com/quiz/rest-quiz-test/ Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity by Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith https://amzn.to/346V4j8 https://drmichellebengtson.com/embracing-his-rest/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/when-god-commands-rest/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/6-lessons-learned-doctor-orders-more-rest/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/3-lessons-learned-from-a-period-of-rest/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/risking-rest/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/trust-and-rest/ “Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award https://amzn.to/2zB0e7J “Hope Prevails Bible Study” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award https://amzn.to/2yMdN46 Social Media Links for Host and Guest: To connect with Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith: Website: https://ichoosemybestlife.com/ Twitter Handle: https://twitter.com/DrDaltonSmith Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/DrSaundraDaltonSmith Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/drdaltonsmith/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/drdaltonsmith/ For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: To order Hope Prevails: https://drmichellebengtson.com/hope-prevails-book/ Website: https://drmichellebengtson.com/ Blog: https://drmichellebengtson.com/blog/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrMichelleBengtson Twitter: https://twitter.com/DrMBengtson (@DrMBengtson) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmichellebengtson/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drmichellebengtson/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/drbhopeprevails/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/MichelleBengtson Radio Show Host: http://graceandtruthradio.world/shows/your-hope-filled-perspective/ Guest: Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith Saundra Dalton-Smith is an author, speaker, and board-certified internal medicine physician. On your Daily Detroit for Monday, April 22, we dig into a proposal to develop part of Palmer Park as “Palmer Square,” a mixed-use development featuring luxury condominium towers, “experiential retail” and futuristic architecture. We recently aired an episode looking into the city’s nascent Detroit Exploration and Nature Center, which is being run out of the former golf course headquarters. The closed golf course figures to be ground zero for a lot of redevelopment proposals, but any such proposal is bound to face stiff opposition. Also on the show: We dive into the news that Baker College has abandoned its plans to build a new flagship campus in downtown Ferndale I discuss some of the highlights of covering the New York International Auto Show And the next episode of “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” will turn its focus to Ilitchville the District Detroit, another topic we’ve covered on this podcast. The episode airs at 10 p.m. Tuesday on HBO.
First, huge news from East Lansing, where former Gov. John Engler is expected to resign as interim president of Michigan State University in the wake of comments he made about victims of the Larry Nassar sexual-assault scandal. Engler, you’ll recall, was brought in to clean up the mess after former President Lou Ann Simon resigned over her handling of the Nassar affair. But Engler last week told The Detroit News that some victims were “enjoying the spotlight.” It was the latest in a long line of controversial moves and comments he made about the scandal, and we talk about why we believe he was the wrong man for the job from the outset. Elsewhere, more than 60 unlicensed medical marijuana dispensaries will be allowed to temporarily reopen amid a marijuana shortage. There’s also big news in Ferndale, where Baker College wants to open a flagship urban campus in 2020, a move that could give the city an economic jolt. Also hoped to deliver an economic jolt is a new partnership between Microsoft and Wayne State University. It targets developing skills for in-demand high-tech jobs. Staying on the jobs theme, Pontiac-based mortgage lender United Shore is looking to hire 800 people this year. And going back to Wayne State, researchers there will study fatbergs after winning an $80,000 grant. There’s more for your listening pleasure in the episode above. And don’t miss our guide for how to score tickets to see the acclaimed musical “Hamilton” when it comes to the Fisher Theater.
This week on Episode 26 we welcome Kim Markey and her grumpy husband Dave Markey. We take a look at Kim and Dave’s wedding from 19 years ago. Then we cover her time at Baker College and what it takes to sell fudge these days. Dr. Moorer flunked-out of Kettering University twice returned earning a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems –then later returned as a professor and was recognized as Kettering’s most distinguished alumni. Cleamon Moorer Jr., DBA, is a father, husband, philanthropist, educator, author, mentor and educational entrepreneur. Moorer is the author of best-selling memoir “From Failure to Promise: 360 Degrees,” the story of how he overcame flunking out of college to become an engineer, college professor and dean. From Failure to Promise has held the #1 top-rated spot on Amazon in the US and Canada on several occasions in the genre of memoirs/biographies of educators. Black Enterprise magazine named him "Modern Man of Distinction." Defying obstacles is what makes him true motivational speaker because he can transform audiences to catch his “never give up spirit.” Speaking at many conferences across the nation – including a TED Talk where he delivered “Pursue Promise: Success is Not Enough.” In that talk (which is also the title of his next book), he conveys how real failure occurs if a person fails to abandon safe, monotonous, routine, uninspiring work. Dr. Moorer believes that innovation, creativity, promise and legacy are often the byproducts of “quitting" and obeying the inner voice that says, "This Is Not It... you were designed to do more and to be more.” Dr. Moorer is the founding Dean of the College of Business and Editor-In-Chief of PURSUIT: "The Official Magazine of Baker College.” He is a motivational speaker with the Young Black Minds, Speaker’s Bureau, LLC.
Diva Tech Talk interviewed musician-turned-technologist, Theresa Ancick, Manager, Enterprise Business Intelligence at Beaumont Health Systems (https://www.beaumont.org), the largest health system in Michigan. Theresa’s predilection for technology is genetic. Her father was a second-level executive at Michigan Bell (later acquired by AT&T: www.att.com) in the troubleshooting department. After high school, Theresa sang in a band, and traveled around the Midwest. “I had a lot of fun. But my friends were graduating from colleges and getting married. I went ‘oh my gosh, I think I might be a loser’ and decided to get off the couch and try and get a life of some sort.” That new career life began with a brief stint as a waitress, “while I tried to figure things out.” Then Theresa selected a job “specifically in computers” at Electronic Laser Forms, in Fraser, Michigan, who focused on producing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage forms “because I felt it was going to get me farther in life, ultimately.” Next, Theresa was hired by Gentry Machinery Builders, in Troy, Michigan to automate that small company’s accounting system. Theresa learned everything she could about Gentry’s accounting system (payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger) as well as how to quickly computerize all the functions and reports. “Tony Robbins (https://www.tonyrobbins.com) talks about discovering what your passions are; when you get involved with something and lose track of time. I loved it. It was like putting puzzles together.” This quickly blossomed into Theresa’s first entrepreneurial venture, when the vendor who sold Gentry their computers (Michigan Computer Solutions: http://michcomp.com/) recognized her talents; suggested she provide the same services to other companies in the machine industry; and referred her to her first new customer. That customer “was so thankful that he sent me to every one of his friends! Within two weeks, I had to quit my ‘day job.’ “ Naming her consulting company, Accura Business Services Corporation, Theresa did not look back, (“it was a wave that took over me”). “I was very popular in the tooling industry but I also served landscape companies, libraries, restaurants, over 200 companies, with their CPAs. It was an education I would not have gotten at Harvard.” Theresa gave up her company after the birth of her daughter, who suffered from the very rare “Caffey disease:” infantile cortical hyperostosis. No insurance company would cover her daughter, so to qualify for family health benefits, she took a job at the Help Desk at Macomb-Oakland Regional Center (https://www.morcinc.org). Theresa dove into their billing system, based on her recent experiences and her penchant for “just figuring things out.” In 9 months, they stabilized the MORC processes; moved from their antiquated tape-to-tape system; and became the one of the first mental health non-profits in Michigan to fully automate their billing system. Theresa worked at MORC for 10 years, eventually becoming the Director, Applications and Data Management. Along the way, she became aware of data warehousing and its intrinsic benefits to any business or non-profit operation. “It was this intriguing thing on the horizon,” she said. To further explore that technology, Theresa moved to Oakland County Community Mental Health (https://www.occmha.org/ ), where new data warehouse initiatives were starting. She saw this as her “perfect job,” because “we had fun, and worked hard. There was a lot of respect; we became aware that the more we built each other up, the better we all were. We were all successful.” Eventually Theresa led an 11-person team responsible for state-of-the art business intelligence and billing systems for OCCMH. After her daughter made it to her healthier teenage years, Theresa also went back to school at Baker College for her degree. After OCCMH, she worked for Blue Care Network, an arm of Blue Care/Blue Shield of Michigan (https://www.bcbsm.com/ ) and then for Sun Communities (www.suncommunities.com ) , concentrating on business intelligence projects. She then migrated to Credit Acceptance Corporation (www.creditacceptance.com) as Manager, Data Warehouse. From Credit Acceptance, she just recently moved to Beaumont Health System: “I feel like I am moving to an opportunity that was meant for me --- the impact for data analytics to have a positive effect on human lives.” Theresa’s entrepreneurial advice to others considering starting businesses is: learn to delegate, “think bigger,” stay in learning mode, when you need to know something ask for help, and “when you hire somebody to do something, get out of their way.” Along the way, she saw companies falter because “they tended to micro-manage and they couldn’t get into the next thing.” In addition, for any career, she strongly recommends that everyone get a variety of mentors to assist and guide them; and “learn how to speak with dignity and respect at all times. You can put exactly what you want out in the Universe fearlessly, and the possibilities present themselves.” A consistent giver, Theresa does food drives for the Gleaners Community Food Bank (www.gcfb.org/ ). As an open mic host, she also organizes two major fundraising events per year for multiple sclerosis. Additionally, she works with the St. Vincent and Sara Fisher Center (https://www.svsfcenter.org/ ) to provide GED testing for people who cannot afford it (“a cause very dear to my heart”).
