He landed a job at BT Phonebooks through a friend in his squash club and began his career in sales. He didn't get good responses at first, but he kept going until he chanced upon Mortgage Search UK and got his first big sale. He eventually moved to London and got a job at a Google Adwords agency called REACH Local, but his passion called him to start his own business. He began PPC Stars, which eventually evolved into Vooba over the decades [13:56] Tony's Second Proudest Moment: His Journey of Shaping Up His busy London lifestyle made it difficult to stay in shape. He wasn't sleeping enough and felt burned out. Tony wanted to change, so he challenged himself by entering a half Ironman: a triathlon event involving swimming, biking and a marathon. We learned about Mike and how he got involved in racing from starting out with his brother racing enduros at Merrittville and Humberstone before taking their talents to Delaware. 2022 marked the first full time season for Mike Thomson behind the wheel of a stock car. Mike competed in all Mini Stock events at Flamboro Speedway securing two wins and finishing second in points. We had a great conversation with Mike and we don't want to spoil too much of it. Jednym z pierwszych naukowców, którzy zbadali Atakamę był Ignacy Domeyko. Pierwszymi ludźmi na szczycie znajdującego się tu najwyższego wulkanu na ziemi (drzemiącego) – Ojos del Salado (6893 m) byli Polacy: Justyn Wojsznis i Jan Szczepański w 1937 r. Byliśmy też w Parku Narodowym Torres del Paine, ogłoszonym w 2013 r. ósmym cudem świata. Z Punta Arenas, miasta nad Cieśniną Magellana, wystartowaliśmy w emocjonujący rejs wokół przylądka Horn, nazywanego żeglarskim Mount Everestem. She's keeping tight lipped about what's to come, but Holly Humberstone looks certain to keep building on the quick start she's had on the music scene. The 21yo is from the small English town of Grantham. Encouraged by her parents and inspired by the likes of Damien Rice and Radiohead, Humberstone found an audience quickly with her debut EP in 2020. The fact she couldn't play any of it live didn't seem to affect her getting her music out to a wider audience. With a new single called ‘The Walls Are Way To Thin', the singer/songwriter speaks to Richard Kingsmill about her upbring, the haunted house she grew up in, and the experience of writing songs with the likes of Matty Healy (The 1975) and Sarah Aarons.

Chaiten, Chile Considered a modern version of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, the small town of Chaiten in the Los Lagos Region of Chile is among the latest victims of an abrupt and deadly volcanic eruption. A once thriving capital town, Chaiten’s destiny would change forever as the once quiet volcano nearby rumbled to life on May 2, 2008. The eruption grew increasingly violent and by May 5 it had spewed a deadly mixture of ash and sulfur 19 miles up into the Earth’s atmosphere – reaching across Patagonia and affecting infrastructure all the way in Argentina. 4. Pripyat, Ukraine Sitting 3 kilometers away from Chernobyl, the town of Pripyat in the Ukraine was once home to more than 49,000 people. Pripyat was founded on February 4, 1970 and deemed “a nuclear city” – a type of town created to serve the nearby Chernobyl reactor. Unlike other nuclear plants, Chernobyl was proclaimed as a “safer” type compared to others. Hence, the city of Pripyat was open to the general public and people could come and visit as they pleased. 3. Centralia, Pennsylvania In May of 1962, the lives of the residents of Centralia would forever change. It was the day before Memorial Day and the people were preparing for festivities However, they needed to settle one matter, how to clean up the town landfill. Although several options were offered, they settled on simply burning the trash in the 300 by 75-foot dumping ground After all, it was a common thing to do and it had been done many times before. Humberstone & La Noria Considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Humberstone and La Noria were former saltpeter refineries that sat in the middle of the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile. Humberstone is named after British chemical engineer, James Humberstone. He emigrated to the country in 1875 and became a saltpeter mogul, digging his way through the nitrate-rich crust of the desert. Described as “white gold,” almost all of the world’s saltpetre had come from the Atacama Desert. It was in such a huge demand as fertilizer in fast industrializing countries that during the 1880s to the 1930s, it was the main product exported from Chile. 1. Hashima Island, Japan (Gukanjima) Another mining facility on this list is the famous “Gukanjima,” known officially as Hashima – although few people call it that. In the Western World, it’s often known as “Battleship Island” because of its unusual shape. This abandoned island lies 20-minutes off the coast of Nagasaki- a city that once was considered the most densely populated on Earth.  So, a little over halfway through the Pale Imitation Festival, and here we are. There are still four gigs to go, with Rick Redbeard, LAW, eagleowl and PAWS headlining (tickets and full details here), and the gigs are only a fiver to get into, which in Edinburgh in August represents a monumental fucking bargain. We also have a new single out on Song, by Toad Records, from David Thomas Broughton and Juice Vocal Ensemble's new collaborative album Sliding the Same Way which is now available for pre-order so I've popped that on the playlist as well, along with a Passion Pusher song from our first cassette release which is due in October or November or something like that. Other than that, there are a couple of new Scottish singles, some live gig plugs and a couple of Song, by Toad recording alumni with some bits and pieces, so it's all quite local music for local people this week. Phew. I am finding the Festival heavy going, I have to confess. Not that I'm not enjoying it, just that it does kind of wear you out, not least with all the drinking.  Winecast because after soberly recording these on a Saturday afternoon for the last couple of years, I'm recording this after a bottle of wine on a Sunday evening for a change.  So don't expect coherence, but it honestly isn't all that bad.
