Now let's welcome your host, Anne Ganguzza.  00:44 - Anne (Host) Hey everyone, welcome to the VO Boss podcast and the Real Boss series. I'm your host, Anne Ganguzza, and I'm here with Mr Tom Dheere. Hello, hello, hello, the Real Boss, Tom Dheere.  00:56 - Tom (Guest) Hi, I'm seeing the light ring in my glasses. I'm going to change. I want to change these.  01:01 - Anne (Host) Wait, I thought you said I'm seeing the light.  01:03 - Tom (Guest) I'm seeing the light. Well, yeah, no, but the light was seeing me and my glasses, so I'm switching over. I have, like different pairs of glasses for where I'm at.  01:11 - Anne (Host) No, really. So like these are better. I hear that. I hear that Yours are part of a marketing strategy.  01:18 - Tom (Guest) Mine are purely because my eyeballs are decomposing. I can hear them.  01:22 - Anne (Host) But me too, though, I need them as well, and I figure I might as well make them part of a marketing strategy. And speaking of marketing, yes. Great segue, isn't it? I think it's one of the most feared things for any voice actor is to actually think and do marketing, and so it's a great topic to talk about, because, I mean, we could talk like multiple podcasts about it, but let's talk about marketing Indirect marketing, direct marketing. They're both important.  01:49 - Tom (Guest) Yes, absolutely.  01:50 - Anne (Host) Let's distinguish the difference.  01:52 - Tom (Guest) Right, and this is the thing that when most people come into the voiceover industry, they think and their instinct is correct, so I need to market myself. What does that mean? For most people, it's slamming into social media sideways and talking about what they had for breakfast, or it most often means cold calls and cold emails. Now, you can clearly lump all of that stuff together into marketing, but there's a lot more to it. It's a lot more nuanced than that.  02:18 - Anne (Host) You say the word cold calls and I think people go cold. I know they do. They're like oh no cold calls now.  02:25 - Tom (Guest) So the way I talk about it is that there is direct marketing and then there is indirect marketing, also known as active marketing or passive marketing. So direct or active marketing is when you are seeking out specific potential clients and you are basically grabbing them by the lapels and saying, hey, you give me money to say stuff out loud.  02:48 - Anne (Host) Here I am. Hello, this is me.  02:50 - Tom (Guest) Hello, right Now that's a cold call, that is a cold email. There's also follow-up emails and getting your seven touches.  02:57 - Anne (Host) And that's direct, because it's direct contact with a potential client.  03:01 - Tom (Guest) Exactly. And then there is indirect marketing, which is where you're kind of like doing your thing over here in hopes that people or robots will notice you Right and come to you Right. So, for example, working on search engine optimization on your website, that's a form of indirect marketing or passive marketing, because if somebody's searching for you, hopefully your website or your content will rank higher on Google, bing, yahoo and they'll be like, hey, who's this person? And then they reach out to you Right.  03:30 - Anne (Host) Or they're seeing you on social media.  03:32 - Tom (Guest) Social media, exactly, is another perfect example of indirect marketing. So that's where you're kind of like demonstrating your value, your progress, your humanity as a voice actor and a person, in hopes that it will get voice seekers' attention and be engaged with your content and hopefully you'll stay top of mind for future projects.  03:50 - Anne (Host) An easy I would say an easy way of thinking about it is direct marketing. You go to them In direct marketing. They're coming to you.  03:58 - Tom (Guest) Exactly. Yeah, that's exactly right.  04:00 - Anne (Host) I think, equally terrifying for voice actors yes, yes, I think that it's great that we made the distinction now between the two.  04:09 - Speaker 2 (Announcement) And.  04:09 - Anne (Host) I think the one that really causes people probably the most terror is the direct marketing part of it, because they have to reach out to someone who is a complete stranger to them and that we are a complete stranger to them and they're a complete stranger to us. And so direct marketing, I think, requires, I think, a little more knowledge, so it makes it a little less scary.  04:29 - Tom (Guest) I think so too.  04:36 - Anne (Host) That's the way I see it, and what I try to explain to a lot of my students who talk about marketing and their fear of marketing is, of course, all the indirect methods, which they're probably much more apt to do, because they can create a blog, they can go on social media, they can create a video, they can do things like that, and that to them, I think, is more of a concrete path than oh my God, I got to go find someone. Who do I reach out to, what do I say and how does that work? And so I think the first distinction that I want to make with direct marketing is to make it less terrifying. Is that I want to make with direct marketing is to make it less terrifying is just an understanding that people have needs. How many times can I bring up the Chanel lipstick, right?  05:09 - Speaker 2 (Announcement) How many times it's a great example.  05:10 - Anne (Host) I just keep going back to it where here's the Chanel lipstick. It is part of my brand and I want to work with this company, chanel, and so ultimately, they don't know who I am. I mean, I kind of know who they are, but I don't know exactly who I should contact. And so when does Chanel have a need for voiceover? Right, when they have a campaign, right when they have a campaign and when maybe they have a voiceover and they want to replace that voice, and so it's very much based on need and when they need voiceover, a voiceover.  05:41 It's not that. Oh, I'm going to reach out and I never heard back and therefore that's a bad lead or it didn't work or I'm done. I failed. You cannot think that, guys, because it's all on a timely basis, so when I need a new lipstick, I'm not constantly searching for a new lipstick, but when I need one, then if an email comes my way or a social media ad comes my way talking about a new shade of red, I'll be like, oh, I need that, let me look into it.  06:10 And that's the same thing that, as a voice actor, you need to understand about direct marketing.  06:14 - Tom (Guest) Right, put it another way. And what are the client's pain points? How can you cure what ails them? How can you solve their problems? So I'm going to take your Chanel lipstick example and I'm going to continue it. So let's put it in voiceover terms Chanel wants to advertise that lipstick. So they want to make advertisements of some sort. It could be print, it could be digital, it could be TV, radio streaming or whatever. Right, chanel?  06:42 - Anne (Host) Look to me, Chanel. I talk about you all the time. I'm just saying In my podcast Please make Anne a compensated endorser for your lovely products.  06:51 - Tom (Guest) So Chanel usually would have to hire a marketing agency or an ad firm or something like that to come up with whatever. The concept would be. Okay, well, this is Chanel, it's this type of lipstick, we're targeting this type of audience, or they?  07:04 have it in-house or they have it in-house and they'll say, okay, well, our demographic is women of this particular age range.  07:19 Okay, so we need to make sure that the content and context of the advertisement is making sure that we're targeting that particular demographic.  07:22 It needs to appeal to them on a visual or an auditory level or some other combination of that. Maybe we need to get an influencer in here or a celebrity or something like that, but we still need a voice actor to do whatever the radio or streaming or TV is. So they come up with a concept, they write the script. Now they need to get a production company to turn this script into reality and then the production company now this is where they have choices. They can go to a casting director and a casting director and the casting director can then reach out to agents and managers to find the voice actors. They can post that casting notice on a casting site like a Voice 123 or a VO Planet or a Badalgo, or they can have their own roster of voice actors that every time a casting notice comes up, they go through their own list of voice actors. That every time a casting notice comes up, they go through their own list of voice actors and then send the casting notices out to the appropriate voice actors to collect auditions right.  08:12 - Anne (Host) Before you continue, I'm going to intercept and say all right, let's talk about how often do they need this right? That is something that is the big unknown right. How often are they needing a new campaign? And that is something that I think is the most ambiguous, maybe, to the voice actor, because we don't know we don't work for the company, we don't know how often they need these new ads. So what I don't want people to expect, and I think what a lot of people do expect, is like well, I reached out to them and they don't want me. Well, they don't have a need for you Yet. Yeah, and I don't think it's appropriate to think that any one company needs a voice actor 24-7.  08:48 - Tom (Guest) Unless you're Joseph Riano.  08:50 - Anne (Host) But that's a different genre, right. That's promo, that's a different genre, that's promo and that's actually a network right.  08:55 - Speaker 2 (Announcement) Right.  08:55 - Anne (Host) That, yeah, you're required to do these ads because things change all the time. Chanel lipstick how often are they coming up with new colors? How often are they coming up with new colors? There's seasons, right? How often are they coming up with new lipsticks? Right? That is not necessarily a daily. Companies don't come out with new products every single day, so therefore they may not have a need. So please keep that in mind, guys, because I think a lot of people get discouraged when they don't hear back. Marketing is the long haul. It's a marathon, not a sprint.  09:21 - Tom (Guest) Yeah, getting auditions from your agents and managers and getting auditions from online casting sites. Those are short term. There's an audition right now. You audition for it right now Because they've had a need Right. Using direct and indirect marketing strategies is a long-term investment in developing relationships with clients Big distinction. A lot of people argue oh, agents are better than this and this is better than that, and none of that is true.  09:46 All of it's extremely subjective, based on the genres of voiceover that you want to do and the marketing methods and comfort level that you have with technology and interpersonal stuff. Like some people will be like I'll make cold calls all day. I love doing it. And some people are like I'm terrified of talking to people. I will only post stuff on social media and I will only talk about in a very narrow way and all of that is fine. But to Anne's point. Well, first off, we're thinking about them a lot more than they're thinking about us.  10:13 - Anne (Host) Oh my God, yes, amen, amen. That is so very true, because we want to be hired by them.  10:19 - Tom (Guest) Right, of course, and to Anne's point, they don't need any voiceover for a product or service or brand at this moment in time, and when they do, it may not necessarily be you and a lot of the times they don't have any control over the product or service or brand and what the demands there are from the end client or the ad agency or the marketing firm or the campaign that dictates the quality and quantity of the demographics of the voice actors that they're needed for that particular campaign. Right, and with a campaign that dictates the quality and quantity of the demographics of the voice actors that they're needed for that particular campaign.  10:48 - Anne (Host) Right, and with a campaign, typically they want to have, like in any kind of a brand, consistency right. Typically, if there's a product and you're the voice of that product or that brand, it typically is something that will be recurring for a certain amount of time. It's not like today's ad is going to feature my voice and tomorrow it's going to feature somebody else's voice. They want to work in a little bit of consistency for that brand and that includes the voice. So understand that they're not having a need for a new voice actor every single time they're airing the ad or putting it out there on social media. That may be.  11:19 You are a voice for a campaign which runs for a certain length of time, which is why we base our rates especially when it's broadcast right on where it's being played and for how long Because we are a voice for that particular time, for that particular campaign. Now, if they want to extend that right, they will pay to extend that or they'll find a new voice if they're looking for that.  11:42 - Tom (Guest) Right, we love the rebuys where you narrate something and it's good for a certain period. I got that phone call two weeks ago. I did a social media ad and for a six month term, and they literally called me on the phone. They're like, hey, they want to do it again, bill us, yeah, and I just build them. And they're like, oh, and we have two more spots. That's the wonderful part.  11:59 - Anne (Host) But the thing is is like for that particular brand, right Voice actors. If you're going to reach out to that same company and say, hey, I'm a voice actor, hire me. Well, they've got Tom right For reasons within the campaign. If his voice is working and that's what they want, they're going to continue to have Tom. So don't take it personally, don't beat Tom up.  12:19 - Tom (Guest) Tom is like sorry not sorry, Sorry, not sorry Sorry not sorry, sorry, not sorry.  12:22 - Anne (Host) I think we just have sometimes a very narrow view of what it's like on the other side of the glass and to have that need and that desire to create a campaign with a voice, and so you have to be understanding of the way it works.  12:34 - Tom (Guest) Yeah, another point on that is that late last year a voice actor posted on Facebook an infographic that I want to say it was. An explainer video producer posted an infographic. They tracked the amount of hours that it takes to produce an explainer video, which obviously includes concept writing, storyboard, budget, legal department, music and all of that stuff, and the amount, the percentage that involved the voice actor, was 1.5%. Yeah, 1.5%. So often we as voice actors are an afterthought.  13:06 - Anne (Host) Yeah, we're the last part of the journey there.  13:08 - Tom (Guest) Yeah, and sometimes I'll just ask around the office, or their niece, who's a musical theater major, and they just give it to them and that's it.  13:15 - Anne (Host) But yes, obviously casting notices are posted everywhere all the time and it's so funny because I mean, when I'm doing oh, it's funny because I'm dabbling a little bit in fashion and when I'm creating videos, I mean my main thing is that I'm talking about the brand or I'm showcasing the brand, but a lot of times the videos don't even require the voice. Unless I'm directly talking about the brand, I can put music behind it. And it's funny because in my process of creating the video right for, let say, the brands that I'm working for the last thing I put in is the voice. It's the last thing I do, unless I'm doing a direct-to-camera like hey guys, this is an amazing product. Then it all happens together, right, and then the video editing happens and my voice is already there talking about it.  13:57 But a lot of times I'm not necessarily, or I'm doing a voiceover after the fact, and so, yeah, we become like the last part of the project, and so that's something to also be aware of. It's not that we're not important, we're very important, but you have to understand where in the chain of events that it happens. That's why people, when they cast, they want to cast typically like quickly, right, they want to find that voice and just put it into the video that's already been done, and then music and sound effects, because, again, like Tom you mentioned, we're typically the last part.  14:31 - Tom (Guest) Yeah, and from what I've noticed in my casting notices over the past decade or so is that the turnaround time for casting is usually about 48 hours, and then from the recording of it is probably another 48 hours. Sometimes it's even quicker than that. So usually that means if this project took six weeks or two months or whatever that means at most not. I'm not saying a week is spent on the voiceover, it's just that everything that needs to happen regarding the voiceover is probably a handful of hours within one week, and then that's it.  15:04 So the point is, bosses, is that if you are engaging in direct marketing strategies, like cold calls or emails, and you're doing your follow-up emails and reaching out on social media, like directly in sending the messages and stuff like that you have to manage your expectations. I was reading a study that since 2014, the return on cold calls and emails has dropped by 10% every year for the past 10 years. And guess what? 10% times 10 years equals 100%. So it doesn't mean they're not effective at all anymore. But now the expectation of them actually getting your email or answering your phone call and responding positively is between 1% and 3%. It is a very, very small percentage, which means also this is a numbers game.  15:49 - Anne (Host) Yeah, absolutely Absolutely, but it's not impossible.  15:52 - Tom (Guest) No, it's not impossible. You want to be smart about it.  15:55 - Anne (Host) Yeah, what I'm always telling people because I have a Boss Blast product and I know you also do a lot of educational courses on direct marketing. It's something that you need to understand. It's definitely a marathon, not a sprint, kind of a game, and the good thing about it is that once you do connect and once you're in front of the eyes of someone who has the power to hire you and award you the gig, typically you want to stay top of mind, and that's when you're talking about marketing. Staying top of mind is always a good thing. You're talking about marketing. Staying top of mind is always a good thing. That's when they'll call you and say, hey, we want to extend this for another 13 weeks or we want to extend this again. So once you hook them, hopefully you keep them, and that's where the challenge is.  16:36 You know auditions. You know there's a need already. You audition and they cast because they're at that stage in the project where that's what they need. Right, they need that voice. But when you're direct marketing and you're reaching out, they may not have that need right away. They might think about you and say, oh okay, I like that voice. I don't have a need for her right now, but maybe let me put her to the side and let's when another campaign comes up that I think she's good for and I get that all the time when I'm on a few different rosters They'll contact me directly and say, hey look, I think you'd be a perfect voice for this campaign. Can you send me an audition? And typically, boom, that's good because it's a cold lead that turned into a warm lead and that is nice because I didn't have to really do much effort because I'm on his radar.  17:18 So when you're direct marketing, tom, the other important thing to understand is not only how it works right and understand and the expectations. It is how do you know who to contact right? And how do you contact them without being spammed? Because, guess what? We all get spam every single day. I get phone calls still that I don't pick up the phone. I get emails that are scammers, that are just junk email I don't even bother to look at. I see the subject line and I'm like nope, so I'm not going to be spamming. In today's world where it is getting increasingly hard. How do you do it right? That's the question, that's the golden question, right? How do you do it? How do you get their attention?  17:55 - Tom (Guest) Well, I've learned a couple of just some just brief bullet pointy bits of advice is be concise, be brief, be professional, but be you as much as you can If you have a very formal subject line or a very prim and proper paragraph. Hi, my name is this, I do this, I do that, I can do this, and every sentence starts with the word I Delete Immediate turn off.  18:21 - Anne (Host) It's about how you can help the company.  18:23 - Tom (Guest) Yes, it's how you can bring value to their company. It's not about you Solve their pain point. Exactly, solve the pain point. What can you do for them? But don't make it I, I, I Make it about. You need this, you need this. Your problem is this your problem can be solved with my services as a voice actor, but at the same time, be you as much as you can be you, be as personable as you can. Funny goes a long way and showing that you know about them.  18:54 - Anne (Host) Yes, because it becomes like these are two strangers meeting in the night, right? So what makes that meeting more agreeable? Well, if I have done my homework, it's kind of like God the olden days, tom, when I used to go on interviews for like corporate jobs. Right, you wouldn't go into a corporate interview for a job and not know anything about the company that you're applying to.  19:15 Right, I mean that was the biggest no-no was no. You've got to understand what does the company make, what are the products that it makes and what is it that is attracting you to this company? So if you can offer some insight into their company and why it is that you feel it would be a beneficial partnership, then definitely reaching out with how you can solve their pain point and showing that you're interested in them and not just like I, I, I and I'm a great voice actor and listen to my talent. It's not about you at all. It's about how you can help them right to sell their product or to sell their brand.  19:48 - Tom (Guest) Yeah, your job is a problem solver. Yeah, don't treat them like a cash register and your email is a crowbar.  19:54 - Anne (Host) Oh, I like that, that visual.  19:57 - Tom (Guest) You know he's kind of like give me the money to say the things have you said that before?  20:00 - Anne (Host) Did you just grab that from there? That was great.  20:02 - Tom (Guest) I've said it in various permutations of that over the years. But yeah, yeah, I've also said we try to treat voice seekers like ATMs. Yeah, because we only see them as these machines that can give us money. Yeah, absolutely. These are people that have their own needs and challenges.  20:17 They are human beings that have their own struggles creative, logistical, financial, cultural struggles. And if voiceover is 1.5% of their thought processes in any given project, 5% of their thought processes in any given project, you want that 1.5% to be maybe the easiest and most entertaining, 1.5% to make everything a little bit easier.  20:38 - Anne (Host) Don't give them homework. That's what I always say. Don't give them homework, Don't make them try to research you. Don't give them homework. Just be there to let them know that you can help them and that you have a genuine interest in their company, in their product, in wanting to serve them and to help them, to make their jobs easier. Really, I think that's the point, and anybody that's worked in the corporate world knows that they want their job to be easier. They're working for someone, typically, and they have a lot on their plate. They don't want to be bogged down by, oh my God, a big, lengthy email that is going on and on and on and self-serving.  21:14 I know that when I get emails and I like to talk a lot. I think that's the problem, Tom. As voice actors, we like to talk right, and sometimes that transcribes right into our emails. I used to write these emails that were like paragraphs, paragraphs. Nobody has time for that and I would love to write paragraphs of an email and I would spend so much time.  21:32 I remember when I broke down what I did in my corporate job. I spent the majority of my time writing customer service emails and they were long emails and the funny thing is, I would get offended if people three quarters of the way down, if I put an important fact and then somebody wrote me back and then asked me a question about that fact, I'd be like how could you not have read that email? I spent so much time on it Because people don't have the capacity right to read a big, long, horribly boring email and also you are encroaching upon their time. I get so many emails a day, Tom, we've talked about this before. I have like a million some odd unread emails in my Gmail on purpose, because I want to see the marketing. I want to see the marketing that people are doing, and you just have to understand that you're taking up a part of their day, and so I think you need to like, deserve that.  22:18 And you need to prove that you're worthy of that 1.5% of their time. And so that means, if they don't want to hear from you again, if you've presented yourself in a way where they don't have a need for you, or maybe you I don't know, maybe you're all self-serving and they're like I don't need this they need to have a way to not get those emails from you ever, ever again. So there are legal ramifications of you reaching out to somebody unsolicited, typically in any direct marketing. That is the next thing that I want to bring up.  22:46 Tom, in any direct marketing you have to have permission to send an email. And if you don't necessarily have direct permission, you have to offer them a way to opt out of the emails that you send to them. And that includes, when you send that cold email, something at the bottom that says if you would like to unsubscribe to these emails, give them a way to opt out of that. And you also must provide and this is just good business measure you have to provide legally an address of your company on your emails. So when you send those emails out, you have to give them a way to opt out of the emails and you have to give them your business address.  23:23 - Tom (Guest) Absolutely, because you don't want the internet to give you the ban. Hammer if you're sending out hundreds or thousands of these emails at the same time. Manhammer if you're sending out hundreds or thousands of these emails at the same time. So I've heard recently that the era of spray and pray is over, but it's not just for all the marketing value pain points provide value stuff, but it's also because of the internet, as we as a people has just had it with all of these spammy carbon copy templaty desperate has just had it with all of these spammy carbon copy templaty. Desperate, aggressive, obnoxious, self-aggrandizing emails that we're getting over and over again, because we can't tell what's real and what's fake anymore when the phone rings or when an email comes in or when we see a social media post. So people are cracking down and being like we have no tolerance for this. I would rather send less emails that have more value than more emails that have more value than more emails that have value, and hope for the occasional hit.  24:13 - Anne (Host) And again, if you are sending out mass emails and that's a whole nother thing with direct marketing, not many people have the provision to send out thousands of emails at one time because most, unless you're paying for that service, which I do for the boss blast I pay for that service. I am able to send out lots of emails at a time. It's done through a server which doesn't do it all at once. And also the people that I'm sending it to have already opted in to me, marketing to them, and still, at the very least, I have to put. Here's a way to opt out and here's my business address and they only allow from my domain, the, and they only allow from my domain, the VO Boss domain. So anybody that buys a Boss Blast, you are actually getting a list that has already opted in to be marketed to and they have all the legal rights to opt out if they want.  24:58 Most people don't, because they've opted in for a reason, but it's something that I would say most voice actors can't afford because you typically pay by the contact. So my server, which is ActiveCampaign, I pay by the contact, so contact. So my server, which is ActiveCampaign, I pay by the contact. So I have a few hundred thousand contacts that I pay for in order to be able to send emails out to that, and that's not something necessarily that every voice actor has the budget to do, which is why I offered the Boss Blast.  25:22 And this isn't all just about the Boss Blast, but it's anytime you're talking about doing direct mail, quality over quantity unless you have the provision to send out quantity, which is something that I pay thousands of dollars for, and I also make sure I got all the legal ramifications for people to opt out if they need to. But you need to do the same thing on a smaller scale, and direct marketing, I feel, is one of the methods of marketing that needs to be implemented so that in combination with indirect marketing. And you've got to do it. Gosh Tom, how much percentage of your time would you say? I would say 80%, if not a little bit more when things are lean.  25:58 - Tom (Guest) Yeah, when things are slow I immediately go to market, absolutely. But when things are busy, I have learned also to keep doing my marketing. So there, aren't as many slow periods.  26:09 So, yes, direct marketing can and should be part of a balanced breakfast. That is, every voice actor. If you can get quality representation audition through your agents and managers, if you understand how to feed the algorithms of online casting sites, use them to keep the flow of auditions coming in. Direct marketing with thoughtful, value-driven emails. Indirect marketing with thoughtful, value-driven emails. Indirect marketing with thoughtful value-driven blog posts, blog entries and social media posts. You should be doing, ideally, some combination of all of these as often as you can to maximize your opportunities to get the voiceover auditions that you desire.  26:47 - Anne (Host) And always be cultivating your next client, even if you're super busy. I think that's the most important thing that I've learned over the many years that I've been in the business here is always be cultivating your next client, because your clients, even if you've had them for years and years and years, they're never guaranteed. And the best in the business will say the same. So good conversation, Tom. I think we could talk about marketing in 500 more episodes.  27:10 But I think this is a great start guys to understand that it is a necessary evil and it's not scary. It's really not scary. You need to embrace the challenge that is marketing and, again, I like to look at everything as a challenge. That's what gives me joy in my business and also one of the reasons why I did create the VL Boss Blast was because I didn't have a ton of time to do the indirect marketing, although I do that a lot too. So everybody needs a balanced breakfast of both indirect and direct marketing. And, tom, thank you again for always being such a golden nugget of wisdom in my podcast.  27:42 - Tom (Guest) Thank you, I love it.  27:44 - Anne (Host) I'm going to give a great big shout out to our sponsor, ipdtl. Get the $7 Special here: https://freeneville.podia.com/money-2023-plus-the-money-diamond All right, I have some money. I have some money because I made some money. And now I have to spend my money. My name is Mr 2020. We are going to dive in the next 300 seconds into the shit cycle. The Money Shit Cycle. That's what we call it. That's what it is. That's where a lot of people live. I used to live there. My friend on Facebook she's in a state of needing money. This is important. So she feels like she needs money. She needs more money because she makes money and then she has some, it's never enough and it never lasts long. And then she has to spend it. You know, there's bills, there's things that need paid for. And there might be a little bit over for what you want. So there's 3 States here inside the Money Shit Cycle of need. The 3 States are this I MAKE money. I HAVE money. I SPEND money. Now we've got a cool little 7 pack, and that's what I want you to get today. The money diamond has the FOUR core money imaginings. And my friend only shares with us three. She's imagining three, so she gets this real crappy one that shows up. It's called, "I need more money." So I'm going to tell you what they are. Ready? Let's dive back in. I made money. Alright, I MAKE money, that's one of the four core money imaginings. I MAKE money. The second of the four core money imaginings for today is, I HAVE money. The third one is, I SPEND money. Now notice what she's imagining about spending money and having money. I made some, but it's not enough, that's an imaginal experience. I have money, and it doesn't last long. And it's not enough, and I have to spend money, faster than I want to, on stuff that needs paid, and she's missing the big one. The big one is the FOURTH one that most people miss, and that's INVEST. You have to give yourself four core money identities. I make it, I spend it, I have it, I INVEST IT! If you're not giving life to all four core of those, in the way that we teach it... But I seem to digress. So the four core money imaginings, ready? Real quick. I make money. I spend money. I have money. I INVEST money. I'm asking you to invest $7 today. And that little Secret of Money pack at nevillegoddardstore. com. Now, if you really want to double up on this, and I suggest you do, we also made another cool little pack called The Money Prayer it's on the boundless forest lesson. And in the boundless forest lesson, Neville says, if you must spend money, spend it as though it were a dry leaf and you the owner of a boundless forest. That is Victoria's favorite money lesson. So we did a live call on that and we explored that. Because there's a state that you get to give life to, and that's the owner of a boundless forest. And the money being a dry leaf. And you can settle on a 10 second explanation of that, me just pointing that out. Or if you want to explore that with us for like 90 minutes, get the Money Prayer Recording too. It's good shit. In other words, INVESTOR. Most people, they focus on making money, and spending money, and having money, but not for long. And you get to start exploring and experiencing the state of INVESTOR. Because without that, what shows up is I NEED more money and money becomes a war instead of a dance. Money becomes a struggle instead of revealing itself for what it actually is, which is speed. My name's Mr. 2020. I apologize for going about 90 seconds over. I really am a little nuts about this. Dive deeper, soar higher, click the link, change your life, get both. See ya.

Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of the Serious Sellers podcast by Helium 10. I am your host, Bradley Sutton, and this is the show. That's a completely BS, free, unscripted and unrehearsed organic conversation about serious strategies for serious sellers of any level in the e-commerce world. And right now I've got a shirt. I actually have people make fun of me. I have a document that documents what shirt and what hat I wear each episode, just to make sure I'm not doing the same one. I'm wearing a shirt I haven't worn before. It's one of my old school shirts. It's called I'm Huge in Japan. I did that because we're bringing somebody on the show who's pretty much huge in the entire world. All right, Gracey, the world famous Gracey, How's it going? Welcome back. Gracey Hi Bradley. What an introduction. That's wild. I'm happy to be back, love this podcast, one of my favorites. Thank you, Bradley. Bradley Sutton: Thank you so much. Thank you so much. It's like it's hard to believe that it's been over, actually over a year since you were on the podcast last. So before we get into, you know, talking shop and stuff shop, Literally. We're going to be talking about TikTok. Shop is what I want to talk about. There's no pun intended there, but let's just talk about what's going on with Gracey the human being. What's been going on with you in the last year? Gracey Good question. So I mean, right now, no news is good news to me. So, still working on everything I've been working on, I'm still creating content still, but doing Amazon live, still doing my social media thing and still growing there and it's going really, really well. I'm excited for you know, q4 to come around. That's been a huge topic. I just spoke at a virtual summit about that and we're talking about TikTok shop now. That's what actually what I talked about there, but upcoming projects and, like my human being, life is hopefully getting on YouTube soon as a attempt to dwell into more like a long form content instead of just doing everything so short form. That's something I'm working on. Bradley Sutton: Wait, wait. You didn't have a YouTube channel before, Never. You were only Instagram and TikTok. Gracey Facebook and Twitter and everything else except YouTube pretty much. Bradley Sutton: Oh, my goodness, I didn't realize that. Okay, what across all your platforms? Now, how many followers are you up to combined? Gracey Probably close to 1.4 million, majority of them being on TikTok. But yeah about 150K on Facebook now, which is my second leading one. Bradley Sutton: Oh, okay, interesting. Is it a Facebook page group or what so? Gracey I have both about 50K in the page, 150k in the group. Yeah, yeah, both I guess. Bradley Sutton: Okay, Cool, Cool. Now just taking a step back for anybody who maybe is new to the podcast. You know, people know how I usually try and get people's complete backstory, like where they were born and stuff. We're not doing that here because Gracey, as I said, has been on the podcast before. So if you guys want to get her backstory, go to h10.me forward slash 360. So she was on episode 360 of the podcast and you can find out her story, which I forgot most of it since I have. What was that movie? Is it 51st date? What's the movie where Adam Seller forgets his memory or not? Adam Seller? Drew Barrymore forgets her. It might have been. Is it 51st? Gracey date I don't know, but that movie sounds about right where. Bradley Sutton: Well, one of them, yeah. She forgets, she resets her memory like every few days, but that's pretty much me. Anyways, let's talk. You know you said most of your followers are on TikTok. So before I even get into, you know TikTok shop for other people. Is that ever something you would consider doing, or are you just happy doing the promotional side of it? Gracey Do you mean you like selling on TikTok shop? Bradley Sutton: Like actually selling on TikTok shop, Since you've got the followers like you know, like would you ever, you know, start your own store it has crossed my mind. Gracey Have I done it yet? No, but I think it would be a really great opportunity for other creators to like start dishing out their own product and start, you know, creating something in that world, because I think there is a shift. I have seen it just in the past couple of weeks that creators are like hey, I came out with my own clothing line, here it is, I'm making content about it, people are buying it, creators are making commission and, of course, the sellers making their, their earnings as well. So it's kind of like a win-win. And then I actually saw a guy he he created like a journal and it was totally based off his content, his contents like motivational, how to create the life you want. And he made a journal and I guess I was pretty cheap of him to do not cheap of him to do, but like cheap to create. And and then he actually talked about how Alex Earl who do you know who that is? Bradley Sutton: I do not. Gracey She's like the it girl of TikTok. She's like blonde and really pretty but also relatable, and whatever she talks about sells out. She has like millions of followers and like all the brands are going after her because she's like the TikTok it girl, so like everything she talks about is I thought you were the TikTok girl. Bradley Sutton: Oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Gracey But she ended up promoting his journal just like organically and he was like I didn't pay her a dime and brands are paying her many dimes for her to promote their product. So it's just really cool how, like creators are just picking stuff up organically from TikTok shop because they have the incentive to do so, you know so and like. Bradley Sutton: Now is live selling happening on TikTok at all, either through the shop or just naturally, cause I know you know that's always been a topic. It's going on three years now is why you know people can't figure out why live shopping is not taking off in America, when it is everywhere, or at least in Asia. Yeah, we'll talk about Amazon a little bit, but is live selling a thing on TikTok? Gracey Absolutely. So, like we can talk about the official thing and we can talk about the cultural thing. So the official thing is absolutely TikTok shop. There's three ways to shop it. There is the live shopping, where you can link products to a live stream. You have the way you can link products directly in a TikTok video like a normal TikTok. And then there's the storefronts that are on people's profiles where you can like have products linked. So those are the three ways. So officially, absolutely live selling is a thing for TikTok shop. Shall we talk about the cultural aspect. Bradley Sutton: Let's talk about it. Gracey So this is really interesting and I think it's something I've seen a lot of platforms get into recently. It's like YouTube has a new affiliate monetization platform not platform, but like program for creators to directly link products into their YouTube videos. That's like a new thing they're rolling out. Pinterest is doing it. All these different social media platforms are trying to keep people on their own platform with their interest in buying a product. That's the new thing. So you can see this huge integration of shopping and social media. But not everyone is happy about it, because TikTok is normally an entertainment app. People wanna go there to escape the corporate grind, escape the rat race, like they wanna go there to like forget about work and forget about money and all that. So there have been a couple of videos I've seen that's like how to block TikTok shop videos from your free youth feed, cause I'm sick of it. I'm sick of TikTok now and TikTok shop. I see it every other video. Bradley Sutton: I think I did the weekly like have you ever seen my weekly buddy show? I do right, so what was I do Like? So when I do that once a week where I just like scour the internet for new stories and one of my keywords that I follow is TikTok shop, and boom, like I swear, there was 10 articles last night about what you just said, where people are like the four you feed is like ruined. Like I got all this TikTok shop stuff, so continue, but I definitely don't wanna talk about it. Gracey Like people are like sharing hacks on how to basically like not have that, like those TikTok shop videos in their feed, and I just think that, regardless that that is where the future of social media is going. It's like integrating shopping and integrating e-commerce into it. However, I wanted to just say that the importance of being authentic, the importance of being like real, like people wanna see a real review but they don't wanna be sold to, and I think that's also why you mentioned before that how like live shopping isn't taking off as it is in China or in other countries, it's because people don't like being sold to here, they don't like products pushed in their face. But if they see a product, they're like, okay, that's cool, I discovered it. And they wanna feel like, okay, like, I want the product organically. They don't wanna be like, oh, someone's trying to sell me something. So that just like highlights the importance of authenticity and being real when you're talking about a product and integrating it organically instead of like coming off like an ad. Bradley Sutton: Interesting, interesting. Okay, now you mentioned Alex. Well, I can't believe I remember her name. Alex, you just randomly mentioned this guy's journal, right, but that was an organic thing. But as far as TikTok shop goes, what are influencers like yourself or others doing on a non-organic way? Cause, like the traditional way of promoting on TikTok is all right. Here's a link. Amazon affiliate link or hit the link in my bio or whatever the case is. But now if somebody has TikTok shop, are there like affiliate links that go directly to there that an influencer can get? Gracey Yeah, so basically the way that people shop is there's a little tag product in the lower left corner and it says eligible for commission on the bottom and then if I was interested in the product I could click that and it would take me to basically the shops page on the back end where I could check out and all that good stuff. Something I've noticed is that the shipping times are a bit longer. Like, I wanted to purchase something yesterday and I got influenced and I think it was like gonna deliver like mid-October, so that's like close to a month away. So there's that. Bradley Sutton: But in terms of like, that person had to have been out of the country then I would imagine, because unless they can sell stuff out of stock, because if you're shipping for America, why would it? Gracey take you Right, and it wasn't out of stock because if it was out of stock the little button of tagged product would disappear, so I wouldn't be able to click on it. Bradley Sutton: Yeah so. Okay interesting. Gracey Yeah, I see there's that. And then there's also, of course, the marketplace, for both creators and shoppers. Like, you can search products, you can sort by category. There's different products and there's so many joining each and every day, like when I remember when it first came out earlier this year, it was like very few. There was like maybe 10, 20 brands up there, and now I'm starting to see a lot more mainstream products come along and like now, if I'm like, oh, like, I have this product, I wanna make a video about it. More likely than not, I can find it in TikTok shop now, which is great, and I can just kind of have a product I already have in my hands and like talk about it in a video, if I want to. Bradley Sutton: So then You've got like this portal, kind of like the Amazon associate or affiliate associates where, by the way, I became an Amazon influencer a couple weeks ago. I haven't done anything yet, but I got the account set up, I sent some links to some friends, but I'm trying to figure out what the next step is, because I want to get I have this channel that has like 30,000 followers On YouTube and I want to like go ahead and use that to to start my Amazon influencer career. Anyway, there's a side note like that, but I noticed, you know, I can just like find a product that's on Amazon in my portal and then it creates the link. So you're seeing, on TikTok you have something similar where it's not like the, the, the owner or the, the brand has to reach out to you and give you special links. You can just see something that you're like oh, I think this might pop off, let me go ahead and create a link, and then you're sending traffic. Gracey Yes, so it's not really a link. It basically is like on the page before you post the video there's an option to add a product tag and then you'd like click it, add product. You search product, add a video, blah blah, and that's how it shows up. Bradley Sutton: Mm-hmm. How are the percentages on there? Gracey commission percentages. Yes really good, really good, like for the better than Amazon, I guess 50%. Not all of them are 50%, not all majority, maybe like 10 wait, wait, wait. Bradley Sutton: 50% higher than Amazon or 50% commission commission. How was that? Even real life? Yeah, how is that possible? Gracey I agree the journal that I'm talking about with Alex on the whole thing. The guy created it. He was like I made it 50% commission to incentivize creators to talk about it. So maybe he's like maybe selling At a very, very, very small margin right now, but the brand awareness like that, that could be something like a big brand one day. That he's just like doing the promotion right now but creating a brand in the long term. So like I'm not saying everything's 50%, that's not sure but upwards of 50%, and I see I think a lot of them are around like 10 to 20, 30% commission, which is pretty good. I mean absolutely More than what most affiliate platforms offer. Bradley Sutton: Yeah, I'm just seeing her Dumbfounded because that's, that's crazy. Like I heard, tick tock is also kind of incentivizing both the sellers and and influencers and trying to like subsidize a little bit. So I, man, that this is pretty interesting stuff, have you? Do you have? Have you had any success yourself, like where something went off, or you know, you know, I know, back in the day, you know you've talked about how you've given some sellers like six figure weekends, you know, like over a year ago. But what if that was on Amazon? What about on tick tock shop? Any, any cool stories? Gracey I've Humbly sold out a couple products so far, but, admittedly, I'm still focusing on Amazon a lot. I I still I haven't, like you know, sold my soul to leaving that yet, or like I still doing Amazon mostly. However, I am delving more into tick tock shop without trying to be annoying and filling my feet with it, but yeah yeah, there was a bodysuit that I did a video of and it was so silly and and Dumb it was, it was like me try it on. It was like oh, look at my belly before and then like don't even look, okay, anyway. It was like oh, this body like Now I want to find this video. But it was like, oh, here's my stomach now. And then like, oh, here's how slim I look after and it was a really good bodysuit Like I liked it, I feel, as it was good quality. It did slim. You know, it was like kind of like a shape wear bodysuit, so it was really cool. It was like a really quick like before and after it got, I think, over a million, almost two million views, something like that, and it ended up selling out and it was a million views your video. Yeah, but but here's the thing Ticktock is absolutely pushing videos that have tick tock shop product. Bradley Sutton: Yeah thanks like the algorithm is favoring towards okay. Gracey Yeah. So what I have like organically gotten those views, who knows? But because it was a tick tock shop video, I think that definitely boosted in the algorithm and it boosted the sales and it ended up selling out the product, so that was great. I don't know how long they're gonna keep pushing the videos, but that's why it's like that. It's so time-sensitive right now. It's like joining the platform as a seller is time-sensitive. Making the videos as a crater is time time sensitive. Like don't wait until it's super saturated and everyone's in on, and like they don't do these promotions anymore. Bradley Sutton: I know of a somebody who's in this niche From Amazon and I think it's very similar products, I believe, and they've done on tick tock shop. Gracey Yeah. Bradley Sutton: I think something like one or two million in four, four months or five months. Gracey It's just that that's amazing. Bradley Sutton: It's just crazy, I mean. I mean it's so new and and people are just like you know, just going viral, like like, yes, she had a few videos that you know, like like yours. Yeah, that one viral and that's all it takes. You know, you know like not everyone, and you're like I'm looking at your channel here. It took me a while to find it. The reason I could find it is because it's not like every single one of your videos has one million, so I can just ease your skin. I mean, you're in the 10,000s, 100,000s, but you know, it's just like sometimes, so that you'll get one that gets a. I saw another one you were doing like a treadmill that had like two million. Yes, or something like that amazing product. Gracey Yes, that one is great and super popular. I will absolutely make another video about it. It was like a deal for a walking pad, but, yeah, it is definitely, definitely something that People should be hopping on, like on that topic. It's like on the creator side of things, tick tock is also giving creators like product samples. They're giving us coupons like hey, like get this much product and like, as long as you make videos about it, like product samples, like they're so, so, so, pushing it, and I love that because they're very supportive of both sides of like the seller, the Creator, and like they're wanting it to be the best of both worlds, which is what I was all about forever. Bradley Sutton: So Now would you suggest to people I mean, obviously there's influencers like yourself and I. There's obviously clear benefit with with hopefully you know somebody like you with a 1.1 million followers, you know About po, you know linking to their product, but at the same time, would you suggest to anybody who does have or is starting with tick tock shop, they should be putting out their own content as well, because who knows, you know, even without the followers, something of theirs could go viral as well. Or do you think that they should just stick to the shop and and just let the professionals do these, these videos? Gracey 100,000%. And this is a little bit of a contradiction from like what I said before, because before I was, you know, in the Amazon world, it's like what you could do as a seller, like one of those things being live streams. I always said like hey, like, if you don't have all the time in the world to like be doing Amazon live, maybe just like focus on the brand selling part and then like have like a Amazon live Influencer or creator, do the stream for you. But in this scenario, I would absolutely a hundred thousand million percent Recommend that the brand also has, you know, content based on their product. Specifically, there is a brand of Chamoy. You know the sauce, chamoy sauce. There's a brand that is going absolutely viral on tick tock shop right now with their Chamoy and they basically make their Chamoy without any like color and whatever, but the the lady behind it. She makes so much content. She answers questions from the comments she gets. She shows the process of Making the product. She's like we sold out today, like so sorry, like more coming. Bradley Sutton: Do you know what that channel is? Gracey Yes, it's like their brand is called. I love she's an amazing example of a brand. She made it, she has a story and she's this yes, she's Kelly. Bradley Sutton: Don't take. So this is a brand, yes, and then now wait, this is her like this, she's doing her own. Gracey It's just like insight, like just like backstory. It's like, oh, like there's a real human behind this brand. This isn't a huge corporation. This isn't like it's just this lady. And she's asking questions, she's being interacted, like that is such an amazing brand example and hopefully not gonna take too much time and effort, like look, you can just make the video. It's like-. Bradley Sutton: Now, one thing I don't like and now I'm having to do it here is, unless I'm doing something wrong, I can't see TikTok shop on web right Like. I have to see it on my phone Cause like when I was doing something like on somebody else's the other day and I couldn't see their TikTok shop. But then I opened up my phone and it was there. I'm looking here and I can definitely see her store, her shop, on mobile, but for some reason TikTok is not allowing you to see the shop Like. So how much money is being left on the table for the old school people who are on their desktop? Gracey They're watching TikToks on their computer. Bradley Sutton: Yeah, interesting, anyways, okay. So, guys, I love Chamois is an example of somebody who is a brand owner and who's doing her own content. Let me go back to your page. Here Is there a video that's a good representation of like hey, here's something simple that almost anybody can do without, you know, having to have fancy equipment and stuff. Do you remember anything that I can just like look for real quick here? Gracey Pretty much everything I do is very, very, very low maintenance, like it's nothing studio. It's like me with my phone up with like a ring light. It's like nothing that everyone doesn't have. So let me see if there is one that I have. The bodysuit one was probably the easiest and simplest one that I have ever made for TikTok shop. Here's one. So it's a plumping lip gloss. Can I show a video? That's not mine. Bradley Sutton: Oh, it's not even, yeah, yeah. Gracey Okay, and her pinned video has 20, almost 24 million views. Bradley Sutton: That was like 20 seconds long. Gracey Yes, and she's in like a dimly lit room. Bradley Sutton: On mobile. Is this one actually going to like a TikTok shop or anything? Gracey It's been sold out. Bradley Sutton: It's been sold out, okay, but it did. It did at one time. Gracey Yes, it was a TikTok shop video. It says eligible for commission, but the product is no longer tagged cause it's sold out. There are alternatives because it's now viral and I think she made it viral. So there's other products on TikTok shop that are probably the same or similar, but this specific one been sold out. And like you could do that, I could do that, our dog could do that, like anybody could make a video. Bradley Sutton: I've looked at it five times in a row while you're talking and I'm just like in shock. Here that's something like this could go viral. It's not, it's not unique. It's not like you know, mic drop or anything. That's that, just. That should just show yes, so how does that happen then? Is it just? Gracey People love a before and after. People love it simple. And here's another really interesting hack tip. Okay, so you know the, the creator named Kobi Lame. Kobi Lame, so his whole thing is that he's amassed such a huge audience because he doesn't speak in his videos, so you're not like constrained to English speaking audience. You could. You could reach any country, anybody. They don't. There's no like necessarily any need to understand English to understand what's happening in the video. Similar to that, the mega viral videos millions and millions of you, not one or two million, like millions. Bradley Sutton: Yeah, yeah. Gracey They're very like. They're usually no speak, no, no speak, no talking. So, yeah, that is kind of a hack. It's like if you want to reach more people Mr Beast is the same thing he like translate his videos to like other languages to reach more more people. And like, once you start going viral on TikTok, they start promoting your videos to different countries. So, like if I had a really mega viral video, people start commenting in French and German and Italian. Like people start commenting in different languages. So don't cut yourself off. If you do like a simple like showing the product, no words, or maybe just text on screen, super simple. You're not talking before and after done. Bradley Sutton: Now, where? Where can I go or anybody listening to sign up to be? What is it called? Is it called TikTok affiliates or TikTok partners? Gracey So yeah, there, if you're a creator, I think there's a requirement of a minimum of 5,000 followers and on TikTok it's not like Instagram, it's like on TikTok you could do that in two, three weeks. If you're like consistent and you try, you could get those followers. So that's the requirement If you are an affiliate or a TikTok shop creator. If you're a seller, I don't think there's any requirement to be able to you know, sell or Link to your own, let your own stuff, because you're not you're not getting like a commission on your own stuff, Okay that makes sense yeah. Bradley Sutton: Okay, yeah, I just had recently the Rainmaker family on and they were talking about the Amazon influencer program, how it's a great way for people who you know they have this big community of like stay at home moms that's what they focus on and a lot of them don't have a lot of startup capital to just start their own private label business. So one thing they've been doing in their community for those people is that they become Amazon influencers and then they just start making all the you know Videos of everything in their house you know that could be found on Amazon, start uploading it to all those listings and then, you know, some of them make, you know, $500 a month, can make up to $1,000 a month. That's just, you know, a little steady income to build up some capital. So I think that that it almost sounds like the. Probably there's probably a higher ceiling on TikTok for somebody to do that, but the caveat is they need to have the 5,000 Followers first correct, and also for the Amazon influence program. Gracey There there is like a small gateway to get into the program, but once you're in the program. I just wanted to add on to what you just said. Yes, people can make $500 a thousand dollars a month. I also know people making Unbelievable amounts of money from just on-site videos. Bradley Sutton: So let's go ahead and switch back to Amazon. Now, then. Like, what is taking up your time on Amazon? Like, how much are you spending Amazon lives? Are you doing what I just said, like just doing videos for, for random products you think might go viral, or you just doing collabs with brands? So what's your? What's your day-to-day like on Amazon? Gracey Yeah, so I'm still doing Amazon live. I've been doing that consistently since start of 2021. I still do that two to three times a week and that is something I plan to keep doing until the cows come home, I don't know, and yeah. And then a lot of what I do day to day is just social media posting of like promo code deals, helping people find the requests of products that they're looking for Deals on. Like a lot of times I'll ask my community, like what are you guys looking to buy today? And then I'll they'll be like oh, baby, products, treadmill, whatever, whatever long list of items. And I'll just do a lot of research, finding the best deals, promo codes, coupons. That's a lot of where my time goes and then posting them. But I post them knowing that there's somebody looking for that specific product. So I know that there's an audience for that and I can also just like cater to what they're looking for instead of just posting willy-nilly. And then there's also, of course, the video creation of like TikTok, instagram reels, the short form content that you see on my TikTok. There's that, that as well, and the on-site video, which is like another aspect of this whole thing. Now, I haven't focused as much time on on-site videos as I absolutely should have, or have already, and the reason what's on-site video? It's like the shoppable videos that people can post their storefront and the listings and they get okay, okay. When you mentioned. Yeah, so I haven't been focusing on that as much because I've been focusing so much on all the off-site aspect. But the reason for that is because On-site will forever and always be controlled by Amazon, like they have, you know, the ability to Rotate videos out, rotate videos in they they can change the video placements and there's all those different options that are kind of out of our control. So I want to focus more on growing what I can control my own audience, keeping up with that community, and you know, like when you have a community, you got to keep showing up for them. Yep to keep them, and so I think I want to dedicate more time to on-site videos, but I can't do so at the loss of my community, so I just thought I like time, manage it better and Do more on-site videos, of course, because that is super lucrative if you put a lot of time into it. And Amazon, I definitely see, is focusing more on quality over quantity and obviously doing more quality control for their inspire feed as well. You know so there's a million ways to make money in this program. It's almost overwhelming. Bradley Sutton: Are you on On Instagram? Are you sending all of your traffic to to Amazon still, or have you started funneling some to tick-tock Shop at all? Gracey Um, so I can't really do tick-tock shop Traffic directing on Instagram, so most of my Instagram is still geared towards Amazon, but I try to keep the tape. Bradley Sutton: How do you do that, by the way? Probably talk about this before. Are you doing like a Lincoln bio, or or? Okay, okay. Gracey Yeah, yeah, so I'll just have the Link under the product and then I'll have that page where in the profile where people can click on it if they want something. Yeah, that's what you can do. And another thing that I've seen a lot of people do is like using chatbots, so that there's like a double edge to benefit to that, actually, because whenever I say like you can see my description of my Instagram posts, it's like comment this keyword for the link and then Whatever people comment on your post, which boosts engagement, then they would get sent the link to the link page, basically Similar to the page in my bio, but they could then get the link to Amazon from there. So I've seen that a lot of people do that and it's going well. Bradley Sutton: Yeah, now, if I, if I'm a brand, you know, be it on tick-tock or be on Amazon, and I'm trying to, like you know, get somebody of your caliber and following to post my product, it's gonna probably cost me a decent amount of coin. But then, like you said, you sometimes just find stuff on your own, you know? Yeah, like that's probably most of what you do. How do I Make myself more Findable by you or become more attractive to you when you're searching the? You know the, you know whatever you're searching? How can we do that to get on your radar? Gracey So are you talking like Amazon or tick-tock or kind of just? Bradley Sutton: Both, both. Gracey Okay. So I Am specifically like a deal person, so I'm always looking for the best deals. If you have a good deal running and it's a good product for my audience, I'm more than likely post it. But I understand that not everyone can have these hefty promo codes and deals that they put on their products. So I Would say, if you have some sort of like buzz going around your product and that could literally just Be a micro influencer posting about it, and then it catches on and it goes viral and that will start a tidal wave of you know a trendy product, and there's that, of course. But it requires a little bit of luck and very dust. I'm trying to think there there is the structure of like increased commission. I've been getting a lot of inquiries about my brands on tick-tock shop. They're like hey, if you create a product with my tick-tock shop link, then I will give you 30, 40, 50 percent commission and that's like a deal that you can do. Instead of like 50 percent commission for everyone on tick-tock shop, it's like just for you working with the brand. So you could offer a very hefty increased commission with the offer of just including my product in your video. You could do that too, and I'm sure if you reached out to the right people they would be down to do it because again, like they're getting paid on performance and they're getting paid a good commission, a commission you probably. It's very hard to get on Amazon 50% unless you're working with yeah affiliate program. Bradley Sutton: But yeah, I'm gonna give you something that I probably shouldn't make public, but Okay, like I was gonna do this on my own, it's something new that helium-10 has, but maybe now you know you can get, you can definitely use this new feature of helium-10, but I don't know. I really should keep this myself. It's that, it's. I think it's pretty valuable, but I Like to give, so I'm gonna just so, and then you can tell me if that my concept is even correct. Again, I'm an I'm a newbie when it comes to being an Amazon associate or whatever it's called. So we have this new thing called Insights dashboard. It's been out for most of the year, but the new part is you're going to be able to track competitor listings. Now, how it's worked until now is like if I'm a seller on Amazon, I've got my coffin shelf. Well, I'm gonna track just five of the other coffin shelves and. I wanna know, like when they're running coupons or if they go out of stock or this or that happens. But how it's gonna be soon is you can add products to track that aren't even tied to competitors. So somebody like you is not selling on Amazon. You don't have competitors per se. So what I was planning to do and now everybody can just go ahead and copy this but what I was planning to do is like go in and grab, go to some top BSR list of some trending subcategories be it body suits or whatever that I think I could sell and then just add like the top 100 BSRs, and then I can set notifications like let me know if they lower their price by this percent, or let me know if they start running a coupon, or let me know if this one goes out of stock, because now I know this other one, but it'll just give notifications instead of me having to like refresh pages every day. Like that theoretically should work right, like it'd be cool for an influencer like you know me. Gracey Do you read what I think? So like the question. There is like the promo code or the deal would have to be public facing it would be like a price drop or a coupon. Bradley Sutton: Yes yes. Because you got me thinking about that too, and when you were talking about how you're looking for deals. Gracey I mean, that's the whole name of your and not all of them are public facing, which is like the whole. Like time to search? Yeah, okay. Bradley Sutton: Yeah, some just go to prime members, some just go to repeat buyers but then, like a lot of times they don't even do a coupon or something because they don't want to have to pay Amazon for every. You know, if they're running an Amazon coupon, they got to pay Amazon, you know, a certain amount. So they might just do a sale price and then we can detect that you know like where they guess. And actually most of the time I do that for my products because the badge that shows up. If you just do a sale price, like if it's the lowest price in 30 days, it's like, just as you know, stick outable yeah, if that's the word it sticks out just as much in the search results as like a coupon. So sometimes I'll do that. But, all right, there you go. Guys, there's a tip of the day If you want to become, or hack of the day, a cheat, a deal cheat of the day if you want to find some deals on Amazon, you know, once that feature comes out in Helium 10, just add a whole bunch of some trending stuff so that you can get a notification as soon as a coupon or a sale price goes on. Gracey I definitely think it's helpful because there are, just like in my head, a bunch of best sellers that have done well, regardless of the season, regardless of whatever I'm talking about. So like. I would be able to, you know, add those best seller products and then, whenever the deal happens yeah, I'm just thinking through my head, but absolutely I think it's super helpful. Bradley Sutton: All right. So I mean, I know we haven't. We've been kind of jumping all over the place because that's the way my brain works, guys, but I hope you guys can see the potential here. I mean, we could probably have a three hour podcast where we just talk about all of the cool videos that we see and what she does, but we're just scratching the surface, guys. So there's two ways to look at this, in my opinion. Number one if you're a brand owner and you don't wanna dance or do anything, totally fine, there's influencers who might pick up your product. Or you can get them in front of influencers like Gracey, who might show your product and, who knows, they might even do it organically. So, but you gotta be on TikTok shop in the first place to even let that happen. And then, or number two you know, if you're a brand owner, you can be like that. I already forgot what it was. What's your-. Gracey Chamoy Chamoy. Bradley Sutton: I love Chamoy I love Chamoy. Right, I love Chamoy and she is bringing hundreds of thousands, millions of views and visibility. You know what? I'm gonna just check something real quick. I'm gonna do this live and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. I'm on Amazon here. I was looking at your page, by the way, I love Cham. Oh my goodness, look at all of this. Look at this. Gracey I love this. This is. Bradley Sutton: Helium Tendetta 5,000 search volume for this brand that probably nobody had ever heard of on Amazon, but because of the TikTok All right, I love Chamoy. Sugar free is 3,000 search volume. So this is what happens, guys. You know you have something go viral. Yes, you're gonna start getting some action on TikTok shop, but then there's other people who are old like me and who are trying to look at TikTok on a desktop and couldn't even get to the shop. So if that happens, what am I gonna do? I'm gonna go to Amazon and look up I love Chamoy. Maybe I don't know what this old TikTok shop is, as dang whippersnappers doing this. I'm gonna go to Amazon because I trust Amazon. So, and two days ship or same day shipping. Oh my God, I can't imagine it. I live in the suburbs and I get same day shipping all the time. It just boggles my mind. I'm not even in the big city, but anyways, guys. So this is like this is gonna be the thing in. I mean, it might be the ready to thing right now, but I think in 2024, like TikTok shop might start giving Walmart a run for their money as far as number two next to Amazon. They don't have the distribution at work. Obviously, that's gonna be a big. Like you said, one month shipping time is nobody wants that, but the views are there. This is where people of all generations I'm making fun of my oldness here, but people way older than me are addicted to TikTok. It's not just for young people. But anyways, any last strategies on something that we haven't talked about or something that we have, but you can just say something a little bit different. Gracey I just wanna highlight the thing we just found out. It's like, while it might be viral on TikTok shop, those sales always translate to Amazon because their Amazon has the consumer trust, they have the easy checkout process, they have the fast shipping, the customer service. Even sometimes I am like I don't wanna wait even a week for shipping on TikTok shop, but I see it, it's viral, it's available on Amazon, I'll always buy it on Amazon. So it's like those sales, even if it has nothing to do with Amazon, it actually does and you just saw that with Chamoy. Bradley Sutton: Yep, I love it. I might buy it right now, as a matter of fact. All right, so people want to find you on the intro. We almost went through all of your socials already, but go ahead and repeat how people can reach out to you or find you out there. Gracey It is dealcheats on all platforms D-E-A-L-C-H-E-A-T-S, and my email is contact at dealcheats.com. Bradley Sutton: Gracey, thank you so much for bringing your very unique knowledge. I've been talking a lot of people about TikTok. I've been talking to Norm, who I know is your. Are you a Star Wars fan at all? A little bit you suck. But I was about to say Norm is kind of like your Padawan apprentice, you're like the Jedi master, because he was telling me you're training him to be an official Amazon influencer and he seems to be doing a good job. Like I saw I was looking at his channel. But anyways, like everybody knows a little bit about this stuff, but like you're the one, you're the go-to person in the industry. We just kind of cool when I think about it. You came out of nowhere, I did you know. Like all of a sudden I was like who's this person? I see popping up everywhere that's talking about influencers. I just love how Amazon, just like you know, things go viral on Amazon, things go viral in the Amazon influencer world like this. So it's awesome, I think. Gracey I'm out of nowhere it does and I love it, and I've discovered so much and learned so much from the brands and sellers as well. So a great team, I think. Bradley Sutton: Awesome, all right, thank you, Gracey. I hope to see you at an upcoming event, if not this year, then maybe sometime next year. Gracey Sounds good, thank you.

Tax Relief with Timalyn Bowens

Episode 27:  In this episode, Timalyn is relaxing after the federal tax deadline.  Today, she'll discuss the IRS appeals process.  Timalyn will discuss how to make an appeal and how it affects your current situation. You might find it helpful to go back and listen to Episode 26 on the IRS Collection Due Process.  It sets up today's topic. Let's face it, nobody like to pay taxes.  As an enrolled agent, Timalyn represents taxpayers in IRS proceedings.  There are times when she doesn't agree with a decision made by the IRS.  That's when IRS appeals offer a chance to revisit a particular issue, on behalf of the taxpayer.  Timalyn discusses a time she had to contact the IRS about a tax refund they forgot to issue to her.  For some reason, they couldn't simply apply the balance to an upcoming tax payment.  She had to go through the same process other taxpayers have to experience.  In the end, the issue was resolved without the need for an IRS appeal.  Making an IRS Appeal When you have a tax liability, you know you need to pay it to the IRS.  However, there are times when you dispute the amount the IRS proposes you owe, as well as penalties and enforcement actions. This is when you need to file an appeal.  In Episode 26, Timalyn explained that the IRS Appeals Office is an independent organization.  They can look at the situation objectively. When Can't I Make an Appeal? There are certain reasons you cannot use as a basis to appeal an IRS decision.  For instance, you can't appeal based on what you feel are moral reasons, religious reasons, political reasons, Constitutional reasons or what's called “conscientious reasons.” However, any other basis is considered fair game enabling you to make an IRS appeal.  What Happens When I Appeal an IRS Decision? Timalyn explains that the first step is a conference with your local appeals office.  It sounds more intimidating than it really is.  The conference may be in person, via written correspondence, or via telephone.  You can hire an authorized representative to handle your appeal.  Episode 23 outlines the 3 types of tax professionals who are authorized to represent you regarding IRS issues:  ●      A Tax Attorney ●      A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) ●      An Enrolled Agent Types of IRS Appeals The first type of appeal is a “Small Case Request.”  This is for issues less than $25,000.  You'll need to include a brief statement regarding the original IRS decision and what you are requesting to appeal.  You need to specifically include the issue with which you disagree.  You only have 30 days, from the date on your notice (not the date you received it), to submit this information.  The second type of appeal could involve more than one tax period or is $25,000 or more, this is called a “Formal Protest.”  There is more required with this appeal.  Here's what you'll need to include with your Formal Protest: ●      Taxpayer's full name, address and daytime phone number ●      Statement outlining why you want to appeal the decision ●      Include a copy of the letter Proposed Tax Adjustment (sent by the IRS) ●      List the tax periods or years ●      Include a list of changes you don't agree with, including your rationale for the disagreement ●      You must include facts substantiating your reason for disagreeing with the IRS ●      Include any law or authority used as the basis for your disagreeing ●      Don't forget to sign everything you're submitting. ●      State that you are signing “Under the penalties of perjury, you are signing that you believe the information your submitting is true, correct and to the best of your knowledge, complete.” This is a serious process.  It's not meant to enable you to game the system or to cause additional delays.  For Tax Professionals and Representatives Remember, we are required under IRS Circular 230 to sign and submit a similar statement regarding the validity of the information you submit on behalf of your client.  Cover your bases and ensure your client is being forthright.  What Can be Appealed with a Formal Protest? You can use this process to: ●      Appeal an offer in compromise ●      Appeal issues related to an exempt organization or an employee plan ●      Appeal issues on behalf of partnerships and S-Corps You wouldn't use the Formal Protest to: ●      Appeal an installment agreement ●      Appeal a tax lean ●      Appeal a tax levy Remember, you do have options.  The IRS is not always correct in its decisions.  The IRS Appeals process helps to ensure you are treated correctly.  After all, back taxes shouldn't ruin your life. As we conclude Episode 27, we encourage you to connect with Timalyn on social media. You'll be able to subscribe to this podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and many other podcast platforms.   Remember, Timalyn Bowens is America's Favorite EA and she's here to fill the tax literacy gap, one taxpayer at a time.  Thanks for listening to today's episode. I heard a click, and before I knew it, arrows were flying at my face. One grazed my ear, but I somehow managed to climb to safety. Whose idea was it to make training courses this realistic?!Remember to hit those like and subscribe buttons so you never miss one of these crazy stories!I put on my uniform and headed downstairs for breakfast. The table was crowded with my brothers, stuffing their faces and slobbering like bulldogs. “What are you eating that for, you know this stuff's for men!” Said my brother Jackson when I grabbed some of their protein bars.“I take the same classes you do, I need to build muscle too” I replied, throwing a donut at his face. The rest of my brothers all grabbed donuts and were about to throw them at me but I ducked into the kitchen. I heard their groans when the donuts hit a wall and chuckled.“Either you boys clean that wall or I MAKE you clean that wall!” Yelled my mom at them. She kissed me on the cheek as I headed out to school and threw the bag of daggers I almost forgot at me. I parked my motorcycle at its usual spot and headed in, carrying a monstrosity of bags as always. The girls in my year all seemed to have planned to swarm me on purpose, because I heard little yelps and squeals of annoyance that I was hitting them with my bags, when there was half a corridor of space for them to walk. I gave up on making friends with them a long time ago, but an assassin academy is not the best place to make enemies. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Dave Lukas, The Misfit Entrepreneur_Breakthrough Entrepreneurship

Many years ago, I introduced a new format that alongside our regular episodes called “Lessons for Hannah.” Hannah is my daughter and one of the main inspirations for the Misfit Entrepreneur. I wanted to have a place where she could go and learn from her daddy and his Misfit friends throughout her life….even after I am gone. If you haven't listened to the first episode of "Lessons for Hannah," I urge you to as it gives some more background and tells the amazing story of how Hannah came to be in our lives. Lessons for Hannah are short, very useful, and sometimes comical lessons, that I want to share with you and give to Hannah to help in your lives. Because I want Hannah to have these for her life, I'm going to speak as though I am talking directly to her. These episodes are a lot of fun and if you think there is a lesson that we should include in these episodes, please don't hesitate to send it over to us at support@misfitentrepreneur.com. We'd love to share it. This week's Lesson for Hannah Hannah, In this episode, I want to speak to you about choice. Not a lot of thought is put into choice in our lives, yet every day we make many choices. In fact, our lives consist of making choices over and over again. Most of the time, these choices are automatic. We don't think about them. Our subconscious mind just reacts with the stored programming it has built up over the years. I've talked many times about our conditioning and how the subconscious mind is the most powerful part of our brain that runs us without us even knowing, or at least thinking about it. It is important to understand how the subconscious works and how it is programmed because it directly affects our choices. Everyone is born with a clean slate when it comes to their minds. It is the influences and experiences we have in our lives, as well as some primal instinct, that shape how we think and act – effectively conditioning our minds. Sources of this conditioning come from all different areas: Parents, family, friends, culture, school, media, and many of the life experiences we have. For example, the first time you touch a hot stove and get burned, your subconscious registers that and the next time you are near a hot stove, you know not to touch it. Think about things you say or your thoughts – where do they come from? Have you ever noticed yourself saying things that your parents said to you repeatedly as child? Chance are you do. It is an automatic conditioned response, and your subconscious has them for pretty much everything in your life. Most of the conditioning we get is positive, but we can pick up some things along the way that can hold us back or keep us from reaching out true potential. That is where choice comes in, in a big way. The biggest realization that changed my life and set me on path to reach potential people previously thought was impossible for me was when I learned that I could choose my thoughts. That I had a choice. I did not have to be run by programming built up over the years. And just as important was the understanding that the choices Imake every day, directly affect my path in all areas of my life. We are the sum of the choices we make. First, I had to learn to recognize my programming and the responses (choices) that I was making throughout each day and start to ask myself if I truly agreed with those responses. Were those something I put in my mind or were they put there by another influence or experience I have had? I then had to ask myself if that was something I wanted to keep or get rid of. And, if I wanted to get rid of it, what was most important to replace it with. I admit this is not easy to do and is absolutely a lifelong commitment and journey. If you commit to it, it will be very awkward at first because you literally have to learn to do what I call “Stop, Ask, and Choose. You have to stop yourself when you recognize a thought or reaction that doesn't seem to be in line with what you believe or what you want for yourself. You then have to ask yourself if you want to keep it as part of your life or not. And then, you have to choose whether to keep it or what you will replace it with. The first few times you do this, it will be very awkward stopping mid-sentence or mid-thought to ask these things of yourself, but the subconscious picks up things fast. After a few times, it will start to happen quickly and soon be just as normal as brushing your teeth or throwing a ball. Once you understand how to live from true choice in your life, then the fun begins. Each day, you get to control your choices. Remember, you are the sum of the choices you make. You gain the ability to be intentional in the choices you make and find almost a hidden superpower inside of yourself. In fact, in some ways, it is not fair to those that haven't figured this secret in their lives. Gaining control over your choices essentially allows you to level up any time you want. After all, it is a choice to do so. Of course, you have to do the work alongside the commitment you have made with the choice, but if you were not aware to the fact you even could choose this for yourself, it would not be possible. Hannah, I hope you can see how important this lesson is for all areas of your life. And I hope that you can also see how growing yourself in the ability to control and choose your thoughts can give you such an advantage in your life. Like I said, the choice is the first step – you still have to do the work, but that is the exciting part as you make your way to your next level. Here's to living from true choice in our lives. I love you, Dad   Best Quote: Gaining control over your choices essentially allows you to level up any time you want.   Misfit 3: We are the sum of the choices we make. It is important to understand how the subconscious works and how it is programmed because it directly affects our choices. The ability to choose and be intentional in the choices you make ais almost a hidden superpower inside of yourself. Ephesians 6:13-15 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. I Corinthians 15:58a Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. The mobile soldier can QUICKLY MOVE into battle. Embrace Losing your J.O.B.

This week's topic Embrace Losing Your J.O.B. I quit my J.O.B., not once but TWICE! The moment I realized I was not longer a “great” employee, I quit being an employee! Did my J.O.B.. serve its purpose?  Yes!  I excelled in project management.  I ran very large, complex deals with difficult people!  I loved my work!  I made a lot of contacts in and outside the U.S. Did I earn a good living at my J.O.B.?  Yes, I made over 6 figures! I had colleagues for years, telling me that I needed to start my own business.  What would I sell?  Why would I do that?  How would I do that?  I just blew them off and continued traveling and working upwards of 12-15-hour days on multiple projects and watching my expenses build up but I was getting no where! Then one day, something clicked. I realized that all I ever wanted out of my employer was recognition for a job done well. After all, I ran complex deals, travelled, worked with multiple vendors and worked hard!  I wasn't getting recognized, nor was I getting ahead in life being an employee, but they would dangle the money carrot in front of me that went something like this.  If you do XYZ, then I'll give you more $.  That sounded like more of a bribe than someone that valued my work. Now, they wanted me to work more hours and travel more?  I was even offered a directors role, but I turned it down.  Are you kidding me?  I know what my boss does, and I was NOT interested!  My employer quite frankly didn't know what to do with someone that didn't want more money or a promotion. During a very low time in my life, my father had passed away, I was in menopause at an early age and didn't know it and I was maxed out in the stress department running two large engagements and I was in a failing relationship. One day it finally happened!  My J.O.B. and I decided we were no longer a good fit, and I was out of there!  There's more to this story in another episode! Do you know what the worst part was?  My best friend died the next day from cancer! Do you know what the best part was? My stress was gone, and I could breathe again.  I didn't have to wake up and figure out who's problem I had to solve today.   My time just became MY TIME.  I took off the next two weeks with no worries in the world and went to be with my best friend's family.  I decided to just let go of something I could not change and embrace my new freedom.  I told myself I would not worry about anything happening back home, until I got back home. It was during this quiet time – here's that bucket time again, that I was able to let everything sink in.  Boom!  It hit me! I was not going to let a J.O.B. get the best of Me.  Why?  Because I had skills and talent and I get to take that skill with me wherever I decide to go.  I see and hear people all the time in fear of losing their J.O.B.  I know and you do too, that if you lose or decide to quit on your own, there is always something better on the other side.  I also know that employers like to instill fear in you, why else do they write bad reviews?  It's to make you feel less than what you really are.  You know who you are, so start living that way! I got back home and I immediately, tapped into my network across the US and before you knew it within a couple of months, Project Strategixx was born and I was on plane traveling the US from FL to Hollywood to Kansas City and New York City, gainfully employed and living my dream.  Was I scared? Absolutely, I was scared!  But I've also learned that when I'm scared of something that's where I win, so I tend to be scared A LOT!  However, there was a new storm brewing behind the scenes, now that I didn't have a J.O.B., how was I going to pay my mortgage?   I'll share that story in another episode soon! Wait for it….and then I got a call from a prior local consulting gig.  They called and needed my help on a part-time basis for 3 months.  Which meant I'd be back in the employee status again.  By the way, going off on a tangent here, do you all know that as employee you are taxed higher tax rates than that of a self-employed person?  Here's an example:  In 2020, let's say you are an employed single person making between $40k to $80k your tax rate is 22 percent. If you're married, you can make up $171,000 at the same 22%. For a self-employed person making up to $137,000 your tax rate was 15.3%.  Yeah, don't get me started on that topic… Here's the punch line…… I took the J.O.B.!  You didn't see that coming, did you??? Why did I take it?  It was temporary pain….  You know kind of like when you give blood, that first prick in your arm is a doosie but it quickly goes away? This part-time gig would allow me the time I needed to focus on my real estate portfolio. I had been investing in real estate since 2000 and this would free me up so I could build up my portfolio and my real estate network! At the time, I had 8 rental properties that I managed myself! Bad news is this gig lasted 3 years – not 3 months.  the great news is when they fired my boss, I knew it was only a matter of time before they dissected the whole IT team. I had been in and out of companies across the US and I had firsthand knowledge of the inner workings of businesses and how they operated.  One day we had a meeting.  In that meeting, we were told, we were going to get One on One's to determine what type of player we were, A, B, C, or D. I raised my hand right in front of everyone and asked what type of player am I? You should have seen their faces!  It was priceless and my new boss said, “Let's do your one on one today!”  I said, “Great, I'll meet you at 3pm”.  By 4pm, I had been given my 30-day notice.  Sweet!!! That door never hit me in the ass, and I was gone! I was free!!!!  Free, to do whatever I wanted.  Well, I already knew my plan.  My plan was to dive in, heads down into educating myself more about real estate.  I took a 6-month Robert Kiyosaki online real estate course, joined several networking groups, attended weekly REIA meetings and other specialty courses taught by people in my area.  I even found MY own tribe!  Today, I have a huge network of people just like Me, doing what they love in real estate. Through this education, I now know how to evaluate a property to make the deals, how to buy it at the right price, how to sell a property, learned how to use Seller financing to my advantage, how to invest in Notes and how I can use my own or a friends/family IRA money and convert it to a self-directed IRA and buy more real estate! I even write my own Land Trusts, Quick Claim Deeds, etc.  I have firsthand knowledge in flipping houses and I've even bought my first commercial property!  Months later, I researched developing an RV park in GA.  Hey, when I write my goals down, I MAKE them happen! Evolving into an entrepreneur is NOT EASY!  There are several days where you doubt yourself, but I've found that if I get around MY tribe, they typically can restart my energy. Is a J.O.B. (Just Over Broke) holding you back from being happy?  Are you fulfilling your life goals?  Do you need a kick in the butt?  Are you trying to invest in real estate while working your J.O.B.? The Next Right Thing As humans, we're REALLY good at overcomplicating things aren't we?  Speaking from personal experience here, it's crazy to me how sometimes the simple solution doesn't even occur to me. I get so stuck on the idea that "it can't be that simple, it must be harder" and then I MAKE it harder! Can you relate? I know I'm not the only one! I think this is especially true when it comes to weight loss and health.  We're so quick to jump on the complicated diet, the one with all the rules because we think the more elaborate it is the better it should work.  All the while we miss the simplest, most BASIC strategies, skills and tools.  And then we can't figure out why it didn't work or why we didn't stick to it.   Most of us get fed up with where we're at, and we decide to take drastic action. We try to make big sweeping changes that are hard to sustain.  We go from ice cream every night to keto, or from fast food dinners to kale salad.  It's too much too soon.  Instead I teach clients to stretch out change, and approach it in a progression. Move from fast food burgers every night to 4 nights, then 2 nights, then making your own healthy version etc. The progression allows you to start moving from being the person who eats fast food every night, to becoming the person who cooks a healthy dinner every night.  That change takes more time, but it will LAST and isn't that what we really want?  In this episode I'm going to teach you the very simple, yet super powerful concept of just doing the NEXT RIGHT THING.  I'll walk you through an exercise we use in the WW Program to identify what your Next Right Thing is, and how to implement it.  Grab a pen and paper and get ready to write it out!   If you want to get BEYOND yo yo dieting, and never diet again, you have to change your strategy.  That strategy is what I teach in the 12 Weeks to Weight Loss and Wellness Program.  Enrollment is open right now and we start April 27.  Click the link in these show notes to check it out and get registered!   XOXO Tara   Show Notes:  https://www.tarafaulmann.com/podcast/entry/15     STARTING APRIL 27!!!!    Weight Loss & Wellness Coaching Program!!!!! Your Life Coach Jen - The Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 9, 2019 12:08

I thought I'd take some time today to share how I find the time to: Workout Eat well Get sleep Drink water …hint - I don't FIND the time. I MAKE the time. Whenever I hear the question “How do you do it all?!” I shoot right back…”I don't”. I don't do it all. I never have. No one can and if they say they do - they're lying to you. Time, especially for us working moms, isn't just lying around waiting to be filled. You've got kids, a job, laundry, cooking, shopping not to mention sleep and trying to squeeze in a moment to yourself. Time isn't just precious it feels like a luxury. I'm SUPER fortunate to have Ryan who is always helping out and yet I STILL don't “find the time”. Listen - you know I'd never bullshit you… and this one may sting a bit, you've heard it before. You find a way or you find an excuse. It's the same with time. The #1 issue I work on with my clients is not ADDING to their plate but CLEANING it up. Removing things so their time can be filled with other more important things. Here are some tips to “finding” time (you're not gonna love these…): SKIP THE TV. No, not always. No, not forever. But yes - skip it a lot more than you are. If you want to find time to workout, meal prep, meditate, SLEEP… turn the TV off. OR multitask - ONLY watch TV when you're also meal prepping or working out. Consider it a treat for filling your plate with something good! Clean up your night routine. Do things at night that make your morning more flowy like packing the lunches, putting out clothes, placing your darn car keys in the same spot so you can always find them. Having a solid night routine frees up your mornings mentally and physically! Quit believing your own lies. This was HUGE for me. For YEARS I'd lie to myself that I couldn't workout because I couldn't afford the gym or the class I wanted to take was during nap time or, or, or. The truth is - I COULD make time to move my body, but sometimes not in the way I WANTED to. Even if it's not perfect, do it anyhow. Sometimes it's not ideal - still do it anyhow. Start small AF. Like, micro. If you haven't worked out in a year - do NOT get the gym pass, new shoes, a trainer. Just start with a short walk after dinner. If you haven't meal prepped, oh, ever - do NOT start with meal prepping all the things with ten new recipes. Start small- meal prep your snacks one week. The reason you're overwhelmed with “finding the time” is that you start TOO big. Your life HAS to adjust to these micro changes first - and then continue to improve, tweak, add. Think of your biggest energy draining things, the time-sucks - start there. Maybe it's scrolling your phone, maybe it's cleaning the house, maybe it's TV at night. Pinpoint what is truly not getting you any closer to your goals in life - and find a way to remove it or pawn it off (hint: I once got a housekeeper and I'm still glowing from it). Remember, just because you can't find the time now doesn't mean you never will be able to. This is especially true if you have kids under 2 years old… give yourself GRACE. Your #1 priority is keeping them alive, getting SLEEP and drinking WATER. Start there and you'll feel 100 times better. Please for the love of all things good do NOT say you can't find the time, because you can. As you find these micro pockets to add in things that make you truly feel good, they naturally expand. They grow. They evolve. Give yourself space, grace and start small. You've got this. I believe in you. You're worth it. You're Mom Strong.
