Joyelle Johnson and John F. O'Donnell join Negin to talk about why US unemployment is so high compared to other countries in the age of coronavirus and how Joyelle is going to get some of Jeff Bezos' money. To get dressed or not? They get to the bottom of it and more dumb debates.
You've probably heard of the Tulsa Race Riots. They happened in 1921 in the Greenwood section of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Calling it a riot is incredibly misleading because what happened was a massacre. An angry mob killed over three hundred people and left about 100,000 black Americans homeless. My friend Joyelle and I barely scratched the surface of what happened, but make no mistake, what happened was a massacre.
Impractical Joker producers Casey Jost, James McCarthy, and Tina Santomauro sit down with comedian, fan, and 2020 Impractical Jokers Cruise performer Joyelle Johnson to go behind of tonight's episode, and prep Joyelle for the cruise of a lifetime!
Joyelle was sexually abused at 11 by a high-school boy, which became the grounds for bullying and isolation. As an adult, she thrived and became a talented vocalist and teacher. Joyelle felt like she had done the work of dealing with her past traumas: she had gone to therapy, practiced yoga and meditation. And then she had kids and her trauma came barging in. Postpartum depression hit hard and she felt so isolated and shameful. She knew she could not be alone, struggling to parent with PTSD, and so she created an online community and published a book. And she became a coach, to help others parents with trauma learn how to heal and break the cycle.Bio: Joyelle is a speaker, mothering coach, and multi-media creator, working to break the silence that keeps childhood abuse survivors stuck in shame and self-hatred. She illustrated and self-published the children’s picture book Princess Monsters from A to Z, a book about accepting all the “monstrous” parts of ourselves that we might feel are un-loveable. Together with Dawn Daum she formed an online community for parenting survivors of childhood abuse and created the anthology Parenting with PTSD.Links:www.joyellebrandt.comFacebook: @joyelle.brandtTwitter & Instagram: @joyellebrandtIntegration Based Stress Removal http://www.bmi-ibsr.com/ibsr---the-protocol.htmlSelf Soothing Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRnZRbgqDccOut of the Storm website about complex PTSD https://www.outofthestorm.website/And this is my friend Victoria who would be great for the podcast: http://fiercefatty.com/aboutHere is her TED talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_Ml3yr32bU

Today, I have not one, but two brave, amazing women to bring to your ears today. First up is one of my favorite lady comics, Joyelle Nichole. Joyelle embodies the important qualities of a stand-up comedian: she’s smart, she speaks the truth, and she speaks from an authentic, real place. Joyelle is going to share her amazing journey to stand-up, why she uses comedy to advocate for women’s health rights, and how the storytelling greats have inspired her to push through adversity. In our discussion, we also talked about what it means to be a woman in today’s political climate, and Joyelle, in particular, weighed in on what it means to be a black woman, in particular. On the lighter side of things, Joyelle and I bonded over roller-skating and knee injuries! We have so much to learn about the world from Joyelle and comedians like her, so I feel fortunate to have her on the show. Next up, I will continue the conversation around our current political climate with one of you, my amazing listeners. Marnie has been listening since the show started, and she reached out to me regarding a comment I had made on the show about my feelings on our current president. Marnie actually voted for Trump, and she felt like she needed to express why she made that decision and learn more about my perspective on the election. Her email made me realize that I was in a bubble, and I didn’t know anyone personally who voted for him. Our conversation exemplifies the kinds of chats we need to have with our fellow sisters, regardless of who they voted for or what their political views might be. Even though we voted differently, Marnie and I have so much in common, and she is definitely the kind of person I would want to go to tea with. At the end, I gave Marnie a challenge that I think you’ll want to join in too. I am excited to continue these kinds of conversations with an open heart and mind. After all, that is what this community is for! You can read the full show notes at www.alexandrajamieson.com.

Joyelle tells her story about starting her own business - why would anyone choose to live almost completely outside their comfort zone?Because that's what entrepreneurs do, and they trade comfort for freedom, including the freedom to help others. And she reminds us that taking care of yourself first is not only not a bad and selfish thing - it's essential!

With Johannes Goransson, Joyelle edits the international press Action Books and teaches at the University of Notre Dame.
In an age of technophilic positivism typified by the TED-talk, the smartphone, and the MOOC, why do we still need a shadowy, cobwebby, grave-y form like the Gothic? What darker truths about contemporary life—economic, environmental, political, bodily—can the Gothic mode bring up to the surface? This talk will look at the way authors from around the globe—Korea, Mexico, Chile, Sweden, and the US—make use of Gothic forms and tropes to make literary conventions split apart like the House of Usher and bring other bodies, truths and vistas rushing into view.
Loveable stand-up Joyelle Nicole breaks bread with the boys "outside the perimeter" and shares a slew of great gnarly gigs including performing for redneck racist bar regulars named Kermit, her first ill-fated headlining show in Georgia, and dealing with shady promoters. In addition, there's plenty of real talk about accomplishments, self-image, jealously, the inevitable comparisons to peers, strip clubs, and advice from Dave Chappelle. Heaps of healthy humanity on this week's WORST GIG EVER!
Joyelle McSweeney is the guest. Her books include the poetry collection The Red Bird, and the novels Nylund, the Sarcographer and Flet. Recently, her play entitled Dead Youth, or, The Leaks won the inaugural Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women Playwrights. She is also a co-editor of Action Books and the quarterly online literary journal Action Yes. Kate Bernheimer says "If Vladimir Nabokov wanted to seduce Nancy Drew, he'd read her Nylund, The Sarcographer one dark afternoon over teacups of whiskey. Welcome to fiction's new femme fatale, Joyelle McSweeney." And Michael Martone says "You thought you knew your own language. This book hands it back to you on a platter and includes the instructional manual for its further use." Monologue topics: Christmas, late capitalism, edginess, curmudgeonly behavior, my daughter.
