Episode 55: Polyamorous Comets Show Notes In this episode of the Kinky Nerdy Poly (KNP) podcast, G and M explore the fascinating dynamics of comet relationships in polyamory. They offer a broad definition of what a comet partner is while recognizing that if you ask five polyamorous people what a comet is, you'll get ten different answers. Through personal experiences and insights, the KNP co-hosts discuss how these sporadic yet intense connections work. Highlights include an amusing description of having "a lot of comets in the sky" and the metaphor of planets watching comets pass by. Listeners will enjoy the blend of humor and heartfelt discussion as G and M navigate the complexities and joys of comet relationships. Quote from the episode and source: “A person that passes through your life repeatedly who is intense and awesome, and when gone you are still in contact with that person in some way, but they are not a continuous partner.” - Love Uncommon (https://loveuncommon.com/2019/06/13/comet/) Email: kinky.nerdy.poly@gmail.com Tumblr: http://www.knppodcast.tumblr.com The music in this episode is the Secret of Tiki Island by Kevin MacLeod and is licensed under Creative Commons 3.0. Removing Snares in the KNP by Radio Islam
Stand before a giant sequoia tree in Sequoia or Kings Canyon national parks or nearby Yosemite National Park and you're overwhelmed by their size, and assume they're impervious to anything that might be thrown at them. But as we learned from wildfires in 2020 and 2021 in Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks, that's not the case. The Castle Fire in 2020 and then the KNP Complex and Windy fires in 2021 that burned through the two parks destroyed thousands of giant sequoia trees. Estimates put the losses at more than 14,000 mature trees, or roughly 13-19 percent of the world's giant sequoias. At the Sequoia Parks Conservancy, just days after the KNP complex fires started in September of 2021 plans were made to being raising funds to help the National Park Service restore and recover areas in the two parks that were burned. Today we're discussing the ongoing recovery work with Savannah Boiano, the executive director of the Sequoia Parks Conservancy.

In a dominant culture that teaches so many of us to stay small, to compartmentalize, and to keep our emotional experiences to ourselves, Kelley's realness is an invitation to subvert the systems that tell us who we are so that we can discover our own innate truths. We begin today's show with the latest on the Democrats' negotiations about the two infrastructure bills and President Biden's domestic agenda, and how two senators (Manhenema) are sabotaging it and the future of not only the Democratic Party, but democracy in the United States itself. Call me cynical... I may have to add the CY back to the beginning of my name (cynicole..... get it?) One thing is for sure, that's that the Democratic Party has a messaging problem. It's been the case for as long as I can remember, but I don't recall it being THIS awful. To help understand the problem, and perhaps get some communication tips for ourselves, I'm happy to welcome John Neffinger to the show. John has served as Communications Director of the Democratic National Committee, taught on the faculty at both Columbia and Georgetown Universities, served on staff at Harvard's Kennedy School and worked as a management consultant and as an attorney. John is the co-author of "Compelling People: The Hidden Qualities That Make Us Influential," which is the first non-specialist account of modern social judgment theory and is now published in twelve languages. He was involved in conducting some of the earliest research on the effects of appearance and non-verbal communication in electoral politics, and his work with KNP has been featured in a Harvard Business School case study. I participated in a media training with him close to 10 years ago... I'll get his thoughts about the communications problem in today's Democratic party.

Former Edmonton Oil King and Kootenay Ice forward Davis Murray (30:23) jumps on the pod and talks about playing for his hometown team, chasing around Matt Barzal in the dub, scoring the teddy bear toss goal in Kootenay and picking up 103 PIMs in 11 games last season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders. The guys wrap up by making their survivor pool picks as to who will be the last NFL team to remain undefeated and Erik extends his trivia segment lead (official name still pending). Episode 9.5: Addendum and Apology This episode is an addendum to and an apology concerning Episode 9 on Bootblacking and Leather Culture. G & M address the insufficient space given to the two separate issues of transphobia in the leather community and the pushback against femininity in leather spaces. They clarify here that these are separate issues which should each be given their own recognition and that while they may overlap in some cases, the hosts make it clear that they did not intend to conflate transmen with femininity. Additionally, they apologize for the use of "male" in the episode where they mean "cis-men" and acknowledge that the conversational style of the podcast makes language messy. It is important to both M & G, members of the trans community themselves, that they do better in the future and continue to grow in ways to be more sensitive on KNP.Twitter: @knppodcastTumblr: www.knppodcast.tumblr.comEmail: kinky.nerdy.poly@gmail.comWebsite: knppodcast.comThe music in this episode is the Secret of Tiki Island by Kevin MacLeod and is licensed under Creative Commons 3.0.
