This episode was a long time coming. Some digital platforms on the internet advertise writing competitions hosted on their websites with large cash prizes (in the ballpark of $10-20,000). Enticed by the thought of the prize money and the potential for increased promotion of my work, I submitted an entry to two contests. I wrote that last sentence like I was calm and composed at the time. Remember that people like money, and I am trying to write for a living. What is closer to the truth was that I was the manifestation of a cartoon character, dollar signs for eyes, hitting my laptop over my head in my frenzy, as I strung together words mainly from the English language to form clumsy prose. I did not win, nor did I place, in either of the competitions. Through the clarifying lens of hindsight, I understand that those contests are a pretty one-sided affair regarding who benefits from them. Yes, talented, experienced writers deservingly did well, but the platform itself truly benefits. You see, once you've submitted a written work to them, it's considered ‘published' by many, if not all, publications that would consider publishing your work. It also generates a lot of content for the platform and buzz. No, I'm not just bitter, but it is one of my dominant emotions. Anyway, this story was one of two that I submitted. I've improved in my writing since then. Also, I feel the story was hampered by the writing prompt, which I fixated on, not devoting as much time to the story itself. The story initially ended tragically. While it doesn't end with a picnic under a rainbow, the conclusion reflects humanity's ability to adapt to hardships—especially those that come from the deep… This story is called “At These Depths, Everything Tries to Squeeze the Life Out of You.” Enjoy the podcast? Tests Prove Who is the Bride (7) (Audio) David Eells - 11/10/21 "The curse that is causeless alighteth not" Claire Pienaar 28/7/21 (David's notes in red) I dreamed I was at a campground with Riaan, my husband, and family. Many of their friends were with them. (The campground represents our own personal wilderness of trials that we go through to prove us. The In-laws represent the religious apostates that are among us and still in bondage to legalism, false doctrines, and do not know the power of God. I watched them try to teach their children to swim but it was not going well. My sister-in-law seemed to let her son and her daughter almost drown each time they went in the water, due mainly to distraction. (The water represents the curse of this world. When we are under false teachings from apostate Christianity, we never learn true faith in the Word that will deliver us from the curses of this world. The children of this mother go from disaster to disaster almost dying because of a lack of knowledge. Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.) As I sat in the shade (darkness) and looked at my hands, a yellow wasp stung me on my left hand, where my index finger and palm meet. Then a red wasp came to sting me on my right hand, where my thumb and palm meet. (The area between these two stings is where the index fingers muscle, nerves and tendons are. Its the root and strength of that left finger and the left is our negative side. Its the finger we point with or judge or assign blame with. Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. When we see the apostates mistakes we want to lean from them without personally judging them for they are without grace.) I thought, “That was silly. They stung me, unprovoked, and now they will die.” (Pro. 26:2 The curse that is causeless alighteth not.) (I thought of this quote from page 126 of the book Sovereign God, “… There are scorpion spirits. The Greek word for “scorpion” is scorpios which means “scatter” or “to penetrate and put to flight.” Scorpion spirits of fear, depression, manic depression, paranoia, worry, anxiety, suicide, guilt, condemnation, and dementia to name a few, penetrate the mind and cause one to flee from an enemy that they should be chasing. A scorpion's venom is in its tail just as a hornet. The hornet can put a large man to flight through fear. God sent the “hornet” to drive out the enemy, from before the Israelites, through fear." (Deu.7:20; Jos.24:12; Exo.23:27-28). I felt like I was going lame or becoming paralysed as the poison went through my body. I could feel no pain but I knew this was not supposed to affect me this way. (We must first confess any sin so that we have authority in faith to be delivered from the curse. Then we can cast down all vain imaginations that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God because we know we were already healed and delivered at the cross.) I looked up at my brother-in-law who is an eye-surgeon, and said, “It is your chance to shine. Come help get these stingers out”. But, he couldn't help me; it was like his fingers were putty. (The heads of the apostate woman church are powerless to deliver from the curse.) (This denotes the knee-jerk reaction to trust in the arm of the flesh, but we must be renewed with the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16) to speak the same as Christ so that we can be conformed to the image of Christ (Rom 8:29-30). I also think God was showing us in this dream that He, through His Son, is the only true healer; all others who claim the position of healer will be put to shame). I said, “Oh okay.” and I prayed but the prayer in my mind was so quick, I don't think I even uttered the words and the stingers were removed without the bulbs of poison being broken. I was aware during this whole experience that I felt no pain and there was no swelling or inflammation. (These spirits are often part of the generational curse. We must speak in faith that we are reckoned dead unto sin but alive in Christ. (Rom 6:11). Then I saw my sister-in-law take her daughter to the rapids. The child could not swim, and her mother was only half watching her for safety. (The apostate Church does not care for the spiritual well-being of her children.) I said to Riaan, “I cant watch this.” (Our families' spiritual shortcomings can make us uncomfortable but our love for them is proven through our faith in the promises of household salvation. Also, this part of the dream reminds me of the persecution we receive from our families when we come to the knowledge of the truth. Jesus speaks of this in Luke 12:51-53: Think ye that I am come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law. This persecution is painful but very useful in burning away the wood, hay and stubble: 1 Cor 3:12-13: But if any man buildeth on the foundation gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 each man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself shall prove each man's work of what sort it is.) ...Then the scene changed... and I arrived at a glass house before dawn. (A glass house would enable the Bride to see clearly the coming of the Son or coming of the Man-child. Others would not recognize Him.) It was cool, and I could smell the dew. The peace and wonder about the place was palpable. (1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is.) The house was built into a rock face, and it was in an old suburban area. It was so lovely. I looked to my left as I knew that was where the hills met the sea. (Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.) As I watched the sky get lighter, I noticed there was a battalion of Army men almost perfectly camouflaged on the embankment. I walked up to them, and whispered to one man, “How's it going?” He replied, “We've been here since 5 pm yesterday”. I offered him some food but I don't know what it was… (These Army men represent our brethren who are also in a battle doing spiritual warfare against the Beast on behalf of the brethren and the kingdom of God. 1 Pe. 5:8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, 9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world.) I noticed that these men had varying complexions. Some were dark, some tanned, some olive, some pale. But they all had the same uniform on with helmets and boots and belts. (Representing spiritual warriors from all races and nationalities doing warfare against our spirit enemies. (Eph 6:11-18 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Wherefore take up the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints ...) During this dream I kept on having the feeling that people were not seeing what I was seeing. It seemed they were all entertained with life, not looking further to the spiritual… (The distractions in the physical realm keep us from seeing our need of warfare in the spiritual realm.) The General of the battalion (Jesus) motioned to the troops that they needed to look to their left, in the water, near the rocks. I went over to the rocks and saw a giant pink colossal squid that swam away, like it had been spooked. (The prayers of a righteous man availeth much.) It was easily the size of an ocean-liner. I wondered if they'd try to spear it or gun it down, but they just left it to swim away. (We don't wrestle with flesh and blood.) (I believe this is what the prayers of the saints do. The enemy turns and runs, like the Bible says in James 4:7 Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.) (This giant squid reminds me of the corporate body of the DS vaccine Beast program that we've been shown in dreams. The Hydra Vulgaris micro organisms that have been placed inside the vaccine vials and is taking so many lives around the world.) As I started walking back to the glass house I woke up. I asked the Lord for a word by faith at random for this dream and received Eze 12:2 Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of the rebellious house, that have eyes to see, and see not, that have ears to hear, and hear not; for they are a rebellious house. I asked the Lord what the battalion represented and I received by faith at random, 1 Ch. 22:14, (in context: 8-16) But the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build a house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. (This is speaking of the Davids, the former rain Man-childs, who have fought against the enemies of God and His people and won as we shall see. Mat 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. Now the house of God will be built by the fruit of the David's, with the Solomon or peaceful anointing, which is the latter rain anointed Man-child reformers.) 9 Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies roundabout; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. 10 He shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. (The same was said of David who said:) 11 Now, my son, Jehovah be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of Jehovah thy God, as he hath spoken concerning thee. 12 Only Jehovah give thee discretion and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel; that so thou mayest keep the law of Jehovah thy God. 13 Then shalt thou prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Jehovah charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; fear not, neither be dismayed. 14 Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for the house of Jehovah a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. 15 Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men that are skilful in every manner of work: 16 of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and Jehovah be with thee. (This will be the final house made up of the chosen and fruitful people of God.) Fight in the Heavenlies Claire Pienaar - 9/10/21 (David's notes in red) This dream will definitely encourage others who are fighting against witchcraft, disease, and lying symptoms right now. I dreamed that fiery animated bugs were flying all around me. I was also animated and I had a red helmet on. (The Animation tells us this is not our reality but we battle our enemies in the spirit realm. Even though we have these earth suits, this fight is not against the flesh even though the lying spirits of pain and discomfort confuse us. We are already in the heavenlies! We are already fighting from and in the Spirit of victory through Christ Jesus, who loved us. The red helmet represents the helmet of salvation, and it's only the blood of the lamb that washes away our sins). (Num. 21:5-9 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loatheth this light bread (The Word). 6 And Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. (As we are seeing now) 7 And the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; pray unto Jehovah, that he take away the serpents from us. (The apostate leaders speak against the Word) And Moses prayed for the people. 8 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a standard: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the standard: and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived. (This represents Jesus who bore the sins and curse for those who believe. 1Pe 2:24 who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.) The Lord told me to fight so I started wielding my sword left and right. The Lord zoomed out my perspective and I saw us fighting in his blue sky. It was like I was floating in the sky. (Only those who abide in the heavenly places in Christ can win this battle.) Then he zoomed out even more and I saw me and a golden glow within the blue sky; it was now beyond planet earth, in the heavenlies. Then my perspective zoomed out one more time and all I saw was blue! (I think of how David Eells and my husband, Riaan, have often said, if the Holy Spirit was visible, it would be all you see. He is everywhere! We are in Him and of Him). I asked the Lord for a word by faith at random and received Isaiah 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. Don't Be Moved; Stay on Mount Zion Claire Pienaar - 9/9/21 (David's notes in red) Here's a short dream I received about the bride staying on Mount Zion, no matter what the enemy throws at us. I dreamed that my husband, Riaan, and I were on top of Mount Zion. We were standing in white clothing. (Riaan's name means “little king" and he represents the corporate Man-child body and Claire means “brightness" and represents the corporate body of the first fruits Bride body. Together they will have authority on top of Mount Zion over the rest of the kingdom of God on earth.) A crazy, black man tried to come towards us on the mountain. In my mind I saw him shouting at us. (This man represents evil spirits or demons). (Who rule in those who are vessels of dishonor like the factious and apostates in Church and State.) He kept on shouting at us, “Mine the mountain! Mine the mountain!” We said, “No, we will not mine the mountain”. ("Mine” here means to seek gain out of our position on the mountain, which is the Kingdom. This is what Judas apostate leaders do.) (We do not cave in to the enemy's desires for us to work in the flesh.). He got angrier and angrier and it felt like he had waved a gun in my face even though I don't remember seeing any gun. We just shook our heads and said “No”. He started sending attacks toward us, like bugs, heat, and wind. We just calmly waved our hands to “shoo” these pests away and said, “We will not be moved”. (Isa. 46:5-7 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God will help her, and that right early. 6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved: He uttered his voice, the earth melted. 7 Jehovah of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge.) I heard the Lord's voice say, “Stay on Mount Zion”. Then the dream ended. (Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be Jehovah's.) I asked the Lord for a word by faith at random and received Psalm 44:1, (in context 1-5) My finger was on, "We have heard with our ears, O God." We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old. 2 Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad. 3 For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them. 4 Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob. 5 Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. The Kingdom of Heaven Suffereth Violence; the Violent Take it by Force Marie Kelton - 9/10/21 (David's notes in red) During the meeting on Friday, I had an open vision of a huge demon walking past me. I was wearing all white with a white head covering. (Representing my spiritual man). (Our spiritual man is sanctified and has the authority of Jesus over all our enemies through our faith in what Jesus did for us at the cross.) The demon stopped in front of me and grabbed me by the throat and was holding me in the air choking me. (The demons love to try to choke the breath or Spirit out of us through fear and intimidation. If they can steal the Word of God that was sewn in our hearts, then they can rob us of our faith and choke out our life in Christ.) I managed to speak and I told the demon, “Greater is He that is in me then he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.) Then I saw the Lord or an angel, with armor on, walk up behind the demon and he took his sword and stabbed it through its body. The demon dropped me, and fell to the ground defeated. (Deu. 30:1 Jehovah your God who goeth before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes. Heb. 1:14 Are they (the angels) not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation?) I asked the Lord after the vision what did the demon represent and he told me, “The cares of this life." Then these verses came to my mind: Mat 13:22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. Php 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. After the vision I asked the Lord why do I always see the angels either stabbing demons or cutting their heads off. Then I heard the Lord say "the violent take it by force. " I thought of this verse Mat 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. The Enemy Wants to Choke God's Life Out of Us Winnie Osegueda - 9/21/21 (David's notes in red) I had a very intense dream that felt so real. I dreamed my daughter Zoe', meaning God's life, was standing and had been eating something that looked like a stuffed apple. (The apple could represent the forbidden fruit that satan tempted Eve with in the Garden. It also represents the poison apple that the witch gave to Snow White which almost killed her.) The outside of the apple was kind of wrinkled looking, like when you roast a pepper. The inside was stuffed with some creamy looking stuffing or cheese. (The enemy always makes sin look appealing and appetizing.) Zoe' suddenly began to choke and I quickly tried to get the food out of her mouth by sticking my hands inside her mouth to remove it. I was not able to get out what was lodged in her throat, and she lost consciousness and became lifeless, so I had to hold her up. (Feeding the flesh nature will cause us to lose spiritual consciousness and separate us from the life of God.) I began saying “In the name of Jesus," and then yelled out for my husband, Chuc, with all my might. (Chuc represents Jesus our heavenly husband. The only true deliverance we have from sin and the curses of this world that choke out our spiritual lives is in Christ. Rom. 8:9-11 But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.) Then I woke up suddenly and a spirit of fear tried to come upon me, but I cast it down. I asked the Lord for verses regarding this dream and received: Psalm 57:6 They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down: They have digged a pit before me; They are fallen into the midst thereof themselves. Ezekiel 19:7 And he knew their palaces, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, because of the noise of his roaring. (Satan is as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. If we open up doors for him through disobedience to God's Word and His life then he will conquer us and the old man will take our land.) The Dragon is Standing at the Door Marie Kelton - 10/18/21 (David's notes in red) During the night, I saw Satan as a big black dragon, standing by the front door of our assembly. (As we can see in Revelation 12 that the Dragon is attempting to devour the Man-child just as the faction does.) The dragon asked me, "Why don't you leave?”. (The devil is always trying to tempt us with faction and division. He has succeeded in weeding out the body of Christ in this way for thousands of years. According to the parable of the sower, 3 of 4 will be removed.) Then Satan turned into a huge black snake and started to wrap around my body so that I couldn't move. I spoke the Word of God and Satan let me go. (The Word of God counters the waters that the Dragon spews out of his mouth to try to destroy the woman in Revelation 12.) Then he started going to the back row, he was switching between a dragon and a snake. An angel was in the back row, the angel took his sword and cut him in half. (This is the great Dragon that old serpent spoken about in Rev. 12:9 And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan...) I saw Satan as a dragon again, but this time he was going into the middle row. He turned his head and roared at me like a lion and I yelled at him “Stop!”. 1 Pe. 5:8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. As the dragon went into the middle row, I saw angels walking toward him; he flew up into the air, and the angels went after him. Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels going forth to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels. I heard “The accuser of the brethren”. Rev. 12:10 And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying, Now is come the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accuseth them before our God day and night. Garrett brings on her new friend from the Artist's Way group, Marlee Schenieder, to talk about a courageous journey they've been on through recent top surgery. Marlee so vulnerably shares their story of how they've authentically begun to show up in the world, and help others understand their journey. Together, we discuss the various non-heteronormative labels that some transactors (and transpeople!) use to self-identify and how coining their own term "transmasculine, non-binary" has made them feel more authentically themselves. Topics we cover: -Top surgery -Expressive creativity -Stillness work, influenced by the pandemic -Hustle life in LA -Transactors; and how writers, directors and producers must work together to create roles for trans-creatives. -Balance of masculine and feminine energy within all of us -Life OUT of alignment compared to life IN alignment … and so much more! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connect with Marlee on IG: @bobmarlee117 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enroll in Dare To Eat 2.0: Life Coaching for Food Program now, 15% off! Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: If you have lost a spouse and are now widowed, or you have a friend who is a new widow, then today is the perfect show for you. We’re going to talk about what it’s like to become a widow or widower, how to help a grieving widow, and how to support a widow in such a trying time. Seven years ago, Lisa Appelo went to bed happily married to her high school sweetheart and woke up a widow and single mom of seven. As she navigated grief and shepherded her children through their own grief, God not only mended her broken heart but reshaped it. Before this happened to her, she didn’t know how to help a grieving widow, but now she shares from her experience to help us understand how to help a widow who is grieving. In this episode, we are going to discuss what it’s like to unexpectedly become a widow. Lisa shared from her experience how to help a grieving widow. We discuss what to say or do that is helpful, as well as things to avoid saying because they aren’t helpful and may, in fact, be hurtful. And we also discuss things a widow can do to help themselves during the grief process. Quotables from the episode: If you have lost a spouse and are now widowed, or you have a friend who is a new widow, then today is the perfect show for you. If you want to know how to help a grieving widow, then I’d encourage you to listen to this episode. We will ALL need this information at some point in our lives. Sometimes the hardest part after the death of a spouse is the loss of a future together. There are no more plans or dreams or time together. Nobody ever teaches us how to grieve. It takes us by surprise, and everyone’s experience is a little different. Two things anchored us during the grief process: getting away alone and reading the Bible, and keeping a gratitude journal of the things I saw God do for us and around us. God does not take the pain away from us, but He is present with us in the hard times. The second year, in many ways, is harder than the first year after a spouse dies because by then the fog has lifted. One of the hardest aspects of grief is the loneliness we experience. The person we most want to share life with is gone. Grief is a deep loss that we will never get over. When you have a grieving friend, show up and be present. Don’t wait for them to call you and ask for help. Say “I love you,” “I’m praying for you,” “I’m here for you,” “I’m so very sorry for your loss,” and “How can I pray specifically for you?” Follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting and do things to help without being asked. Send a text during the day, take their children out with yours, mow their lawn, take their car for its annual inspection, etc. Others’ words can’t change anything, but God’s Word can change everything. When you have a grieving friend, be careful of saying “I understand how you feel” because everyone’s experience is different from yours. When someone is grieving and crushed in spirit, we need to be okay with just sitting with them and letting them lament. Job’s friends came and sat with him in silence in his grief. They didn’t get in trouble until they started talking and hypothesizing about why God allowed him to experience such hardship. Key Scriptures: James 1:27 “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” Psalm 68:5 “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows-this is God, whose dwelling is holy.” 1 Timothy 5:5 “The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.” Recommended Resources: “A Grace Revealed: How God Redeems the Story of Your Life” by Jerry Sittser “A Grace Disguised: How the Soul Grows through Loss” by Jerry Sittser “Widowed: When Death Sucks the Life Out of You” by Fran Geiger Joslin “Countdown to Christmas; Unwrap the Christmas Story with Your Family in 15 Days” by Lisa Appelo https://drmichellebengtson.com/grieve-well/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/is-it-grief-or-depression/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/15-tips-to-survive-grief/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/truths-to-remember-when-it-feels-like-life-is-falling-apart/ https://drmichellebengtson.com/ask-dr-b-helping-the-grieving-at-christmas/ “Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award “Hope Prevails Bible Study” by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Social Media Links for Host and Guest: Stay connected with Lisa Appelo Website: https://lisaappelo.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/trueandfaithful Twitter: https://twitter.com/AppeloLisa Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lisaappelo/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/appelo9/ For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: To order Hope Prevails: https://drmichellebengtson.com/hope-prevails-book/ Website: https://drmichellebengtson.com/ Blog: https://drmichellebengtson.com/blog/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrMichelleBengtson Twitter: https://twitter.com/DrMBengtson (@DrMBengtson) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmichellebengtson/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drmichellebengtson/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/drbhopeprevails/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/MichelleBengtson Radio Show Host: http://graceandtruthradio.world/shows/your-hope-filled-perspective/ Air Date: June 3, 2019 Guest: Lisa Appelo, Bible teacher, writer, speaker on faith in the hard & real hope. At a writing conference held October 12 and 13, 2018, I interviewed three authors who served on the speaking team. We discussed all things writing, like their writing challenges, their writing process, and their advice for writers. All for you! I'm going to share these conversations with you, mixing them in with my standard short solo episodes; in other words, you won't be getting all three interviews in a row. But you'll know an interview from a solo show because I'll include “interview” in the subject line—that way you can set aside a longer chunk of time to listen. Today, I bring you the first of the three: a conversation with Shawn Smucker. We discussed his work as a cowriter, ghostwriter, and novelist, and our discussion took place just before release day for his nonfiction book Once We Were Strangers. Shawn Smucker is the author of the novels Light from Distant Stars, The Day the Angels Fell and The Edge of Over There, as well as the memoir, Once We Were Strangers. He lives with his wife and six children in the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. You can find him online at www.shawnsmucker.com. Peeps! I mistakenly released the wrong mp3 file for the Shawn Smucker conversation earlier today. This is the right one! Sorry about that! I first heard of Shawn Smucker when one of my friends came home from the Festival of Faith and Writing and said, "Steve. I got to meet SHAWN SMUCKER." And then he went on to gush. And the guy that was gushing is a phenomenal writer himself. I honestly hadn't heard of Shawn, but that changed quickly. Shawn is a gorgeous writer, who has written quite a few books, including Building a Life Out of Words, which tells the story of when he quit his job and started writing full time. He's currently writing a novel (I am terrified of writing fiction), and he talks about it on the podcast. If you are a writer, or want to be a writer, or simply love words, you're going to love this conversation. Music on today's episode is from Sara Groves (song: My Dream).
On the podcast today, I’m trying something I’ve not done yet on the show… This is an encore of one of the most requested episodes we’ve done yet on the show. Episode 126 is an interview with my friend and former student, Robb Bailey, who has built a very successful Facebook ads agency for himself -- an agency that specializes in managing Facebook ads in the fitness niche. And as you’ll hear during my talk with Robb, he works with niche businesses within the fitness niche. Robb’s been in the online marketing world for over a decade and he spent nine of those years running, what he calls, a “jack-of-all-trades” marketing agency. He and his team offered everything from SEO to blog writing to marketing automation — you name it. But as you’ll hear Robb explain on the show, offering tons of services to tons of clients in tons of industries can lead to, well….a ton of stress. This year, he finally decided to niche down and focus on solving a specific problem for businesses in a specific industry. Now, he runs a successful Facebook Ads agency that serves businesses in the health and fitness industries. Whether you manage Facebook ads for clients or not, you’ve got to hear the smart strategies Robb used to optimize the profitability of his ads management business while prioritizing top-notch results for his clients. It’s some seriously good stuff. Still, the biggest reason I can’t wait for you to listen to this episode is because Robb talks a lot about how niching down in business has allowed him to level up his happiness in life. It’s a show with the kind of value that, frankly, speaks for itself. I hope you’ll agree. On Today’s Show You’ll Learn: Robb’s initial client acquisition strategy when he started his Facebook ads agency How Robb charged new clients for his Facebook Ads services Why niching down is a game-changer for business owners today What’s allowed Robb to actually interview potential clients and pick and choose who he wants to work with How Robb is able to offer a money-back guarantee on his services The value you can gain by looking at offers from similar businesses as you’re setting up Facebook ad campaigns Why video can be the difference between a home run Facebook ads campaign and a complete strikeout The importance of a follow-up sales sequence and how to set one up so it works with your Facebook ads strategy And a lot more… 5 Steps to Creating a Profitable Facebook Ads Business Go From Making $165/month Per Client to Over $2,000/month Per Client Like Kerry & Others If you're interested in managing Facebook ads for other businesses, whether this is something you want to start as a side hustle while you’re building your own online business, maybe you want to manage ads full time as your business… ...you may already be really good at Facebook ads and now want to create a business out of it but you’re not sure how to start the business and get clients... If you have a Facebook ads business or want to start one at some point, you’re going to love this episode of The Art of Paid Traffic. Joining me on today’s episode is my friend Amanda Bond (aka - “Bond”), who is a Facebook ads strategist and owner of an extremely successful business managing Facebook ads for others. You’ll hear how she’s become one of the more sought-after Facebook ad managers around – and she does zero marketing of her service. Bond’s actually one of the few people I would trust running my own ads. She shares the story about the success she had with her first local event (these results are amazing!) and how it led to the creation of her current business. Hear how she went from being terrified to price her services at first, to now only working with her ideal clients… Bond describes what she did when first scaling her business, along with the need that she filled when she hired her first team member. After listening to this episode, it’s not hard to understand why after 125 episodes of the podcast, this might be my favorite one to date. You’ll Also Learn In This Episode: How to avoid being the bottleneck of your own success. How Bond had to work through her own insecurities to successfully scale her business We talk about When starting a FB ads business, people feel that have to take any client. Amanda shares how she got to the point where she’s only working with people that fit her ideal client. Why Amanda was terrified to price her Facebook ads services (it didn’t feel like work so she didn’t feel qualified to charge the rates she was hearing). How she was able to show appreciation to her loyal clients while still increasing her rates significantly How she determined her company’s values and how that has helped her identify her ideal clients going forward She’s clearly identified what role she wants to play in her business in the future (and how she is building up the support to get there) Her step-by-step strategy and process when she starts working with a client What’s working well for her right now from a Facebook ads perspective And a LOT more... 5 Steps to Creating a Profitable Facebook Ads Business Go From Making $165/month Per Client to Over $2,000/month Per Client Like Kerry & Others If you're interested in managing Facebook ads for other businesses, whether this is something you want to start as a side hustle while you’re building your own online business, maybe you want to manage ads full time as your business… ...you may already be really good at Facebook ads and now want to create a business out of it but you’re not sure how to start the business and get clients... Today, I have something very, very different. As you know, I usually don’t do interviews, but when I find something that’s this true gem that I feel that people can really truly benefit from, I think this is something really special that people need to hear. Particularly in this case, because most people looking to either augment, increase, or change their career want to know how they can enter. Amy Schmittauer discusses how to develop your authority in the world of social media. A person I have today, Amy Schmittauer, is the curator and developer of Savvy Sexy Social, which is video blogging, also Social Authority. Social Authority gets beyond the blogging, beyond the video, into the rest of the social media world, and how that fits in. Amy, welcome. Amy: Hello, Thomas. How are you? Thomas: I’m doing great. Thanks a lot. Amy: Of course. Thomas: Thank you for sharing your info with us today. Amy: I am so thrilled to be an exception for your show; it just means so much to me. Thomas: I’m glad you’re able to contribute, because I’m sure they can benefit. Give us a little bit of a background. Let’s say somebody all of a sudden hits 48 years of age, they’re taking a look, and they’re saying: “Gee, I don’t know whether I’m going to be around in this job or this career. What might I do to start getting out into another business or career?” How might they use social media? Amy: First and foremost, it’s like the step before social, digital, and the internet. When you’re already going through this mindset shift and you’re not quite sure how to approach it, there’s a lot of barriers in your mind already. The first thing I would recommend is just really think about what you know very, very well, and what your time so far has offered you to become really, really, really smart on. What I find is a lot of people that even want help from me, they could have a very, very clear path or a goal set, but then a lot of other times, there are people that just come and say: “Oh, I hear this social media thing is hot. Can I start a business there? How am I going to monetize my blog?” These sort of questions are frustrating for me, because I would rather hear: What do you have to offer the world that you do better than anyone else? Because that is going to be very important. The product has to be awesome. Then let’s talk about how we’re going to show off your amazing personality so that people will even care about that awesome product. I think first and foremost, you have to understand what value you bring to the world. You need to think about that first, because before you go and get distracted by all of this ADD society of social media, like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter – you really need to be very clear about that value proposition, and: Who’s even going to care about it? Who is that perfect follower, end user, customer, potential advocate for you? These are the really important questions before you can start tweeting. Thomas: That’s interesting. One of the things I find there, and for a lot of people, I’m always hearing: “Passion. Follow your passion. Go in this…” That, well as you may remember, I have an episode, “Passion Sucks …. the Life Out of You.” You have to pick something that really is, as you just said, marketable, something that people really want. It can be there. In many cases, it can be a hobby or something you do. Amy: Sure. Thomas: At the same time, what you’re saying, you have to really have value. While you have it as a hobby, you then also have to make sure that you master it or become an expert at it. Amy: Absolutely, because I think a hobby that is just to please you is one thing, and I know that that could be totally satisfactory, but I think when you go to a place like social media, which is essentially these built-in cocktail parties where you’re going and you’re meeting people who are already talking, already having conversations,
In 2012, at the age of 25, Quinn & Jonathon left California to start a social venture in Central America called Life Out of the Box. With Life Out of the Box they work with local artisans in developing countries to create handmade products, and for every product sold they give a child in need school supplies. The customers even get to see the exact child they’ve helped after a purchase has been made through the Life Out of the Box website.

Jonathon Button and Quinn Vandenberg left everything behind at age 25 and moved to Nicaragua. After 6 months of living among the locals, surviving off of just $2.00 a day, and immersing themselves in the culture, Life Out of the Box was formed. They work with local artisans to create unique handmade products that they then sell, and for every product sold they give a child in need school supplies. They have traveled all over Nicaragua giving school supplies to thousands of children and have since developed Life Out of the Box products from Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Morocco, giving thousands of school supplies to children in need. Key Takeaways: 2:58 – Jonathon and Quinn had been dating for not even a year when the idea of living life out of the box started coming together. Shortly after, they quit their jobs and moved to Nicaragua. 3:46 – Life Out of the Box goes into developing countries, works with the local artisans there to create handmade products, sells them, and for each product sold they give a child in need school supplies. 4:12 – Each product sold has its own unique number on it that the customer can use to go online and look up and see exactly what child they gave school supplies to. 7:00 – They both lived in Nicaragua, completely immersed themselves in the culture, and then went to different schools asking them what they needed most and figured out that basic school supplies were the biggest need. 12:45 – A big part of a social venture is to be able to allow people in a country to create things and use that income to support their own family. 15:59 – They are up to 5,600 handmade bracelets made. 16:53 – Their goal this year is to give to 10,000 children. 19:56 – One thing they’re trying to figure out how they can give to children around the world without them actually being there. 26:13 – Since Jonathon and Quinn are also dating, they struggle with finding a balance between their working life together and their non-working life together. 35:51 – An unanticipated problem they have run into is the large number of people who want to be involved with Life Out of the Box. Life Out of the Box, according to founders Jonathan and Quinn, started with a dream to travel the world, live their ideal lives and make the world a better place. Of all the many things that we talk about on this show, this is the story I’m most interested in: How to see the world and make a lasting impact? Quinn and Jonathon left California for Nicaragua with nothing but a bag on their back and a desire to make something. While there, they worked with local educational non-profits and artisans to launch a project they were calling Life Out of the Box, a lifestyle brand of clothing and accessories. For every product sold, Quinn and Jonathan give school supplies to a child in need. The customers even gets to see the exact child they’ve helped after a purchase has been made through the website. Since launching in November 2012, Life Out of the Box has taken them to Nicaragua, Guatemala and Morocco and brought thousands of school supplies to kids in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Morocco and Kenya.
