The Defeat of Verres Through Storytelling. Guest Author: Josiah Osgood. In 70 BCE, Cicero prosecuted Verres in a trial that showcased his masterful use of storytelling and emotional appeal. Rather than overwhelming the jury with complex financial data about embezzlement, Cicero created a vivid image of Verres as a negligent leader. He recounted how Verres ignored his duties during a pirate raid on Syracuse, choosing instead to party with local women in seaside tents. This narrative portrayed Verres as living large at the expense of the Roman citizens he was meant to defend. Overwhelmed by the evidence and the public outcry, Verres defaulted mid-trial and fled Rome. Although he was found guilty, his punishment was merely exile to Marseilles, where he was allowed to keep much of his stolen art. For the Romans, losing citizenship and political rights was considered a severe fate, though it seems mild by modern standards. This victory propelled Cicero's political career as he sought the office of consul. The election process of the time mirrors modern participation, with citizens urged to vote on the Field of Mars. 3CARTHAGE

A deep dive into the astrology forecast for July 2026, with astrologers Chris Brennan and Austin Coppock. The month opens on highly unstable ground, dominated by a volatile Mars-Uranus conjunction that threatens sudden, unpredictable shifts and explosive turns. This erratic energy is ruled by a newly stationary retrograde Mercury, which has just backed away from a conjunction with Jupiter. This combination sets the stage for logistical snafus, technological difficulties, and widespread delays right out of the gate. Jupiter, having just entered Leo at the end of June, begins to form a tense opposition with Pluto that goes exact around the middle of the month. This highlights major power struggles and the tension between truth and control. This opposition is part of a much larger, momentous pattern of simultaneous outer planet alignments peaking this month. As Uranus completes its first exact trine with Pluto, these planets lock into a complex basket configuration alongside Jupiter and Neptune. This heavy planetary geometry indicates that significant precursor events are unfolding in the background, particularly surrounding rapid technological or military innovations. We finally see a more positive shift in the astrological weather during the second half of the month. Mars applies to a stabilizing, constructive sextile with Saturn, helping to ground the earlier chaos. Mercury stations direct, clearing up miscommunications, and the Sun makes its triumphant ingress into Leo to form an auspicious conjunction with Jupiter. This cazimi brings a much needed wave of radiant, showy warmth and outward confidence, despite an opposition with Pluto. However, a lingering Venus-Mars square operating in the background introduces an unwelcome element of creative friction and tension in partnerships, pitting the forces of unification against the drive to sever and divide. This late July window ultimately serves as a temporary lull, and a calm before the storm. By early August, we swiftly transition into eclipse season, bringing weighty major endings and beginnings to the forefront, just as Venus enters the shadow sign of its upcoming retrograde phase. Astrologers Chris Brennan and Patrick Watson explore the ancient timing technique known as Babylonian goal year periods, which can be used to identify repeating transits and events over very long spans of time. Recovered from the astronomical diaries of Mesopotamian sky watchers in the first millennium BCE, these periods demonstrate how the visible planets repeat their exact zodiacal placements and phase relationships with the Sun over predictable intervals. Our discussion breaks down the math behind these synodic cycles and highlights how repetition is the ultimate key to prediction in both mundane and natal astrology. By examining compelling historical case studies for each of the traditional planets, from the 1929 Wall Street Crash to major breakthroughs in modern communication technology, we show how tracking these ancient cycles allows astrologers to identify profound historical recurrences and project future events with stunning accuracy. On July 1, 1976, the National Air and Space Museum opened its doors to the public. It was an unforgettable debut for an iconic building, complete with a flyover from the Air Force's Thunderbirds, speeches from President Gerald Ford (and a certain Apollo astronaut), and a ribbon-cutting triggered by a signal from a spacecraft on its way to Mars. There was nothing quite like the National Air and Space Museum at the time, and thousands of people lined up on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to be among the first to see artifacts like the Spirit of St Louis, the Apollo command module Columbia, and the Wright Flyer in the new building. Millions more have come through our doors over the last 50 years, and the Museum has continued to reinvent itself for future generations. Today on AirSpace, we're launching our four-part limited series 50 Years of Air + Space with the story of our Museum's Opening Day.Thanks to all our guests in this episode (by order of appearance): Dr. Bob van der Linden - Acting Chair of Aeronautics Dr. Ted Maxwell - Retired Chair of the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies Dr. Tom Crouch - Emeritus Curator Dr. Cathleen Lewis - Curator of International Space Programs and Spacesuits Dr. Michael Neufeld - Emeritus Curator and Smithsonian Historian Dr. Lonnie G Bunch III - Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution Find the transcript for this episode and more information at s.si.edu/50YearsE1.Subscribe to our monthly newsletter at s.si.edu/airspacenewsletter.AirSpace is made possible with the generous support of Lockheed Martin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cil0v7dIkgc Hosted by Tony Darnell. Streamed live on Jul 6, 2017. If we send humans to Mars, will they be able to survive? How hostile is the solar system for human exploration? The Mars environment presents many challenges to human survival and long-term residence. In addition to radiation, unbreathable atmosphere, and dust storms, surviving alien microorganisms can present a health risk. The US Congress has directed NASA to plan for a human mission to Mars. A critical element of the planning is to ensure the health and safety of astronauts travelling to, working on, and returning from the Red Planet. Join Tony Darnell, Harley Thronson and Alberto Conti as they explore with Arnauld Nicogossian (George Mason University), Catharine A. Conley (NASA Planetary Protection Officer) and Charles Doarn (University of Cincinnati) the challenges of living and working on Mars. Asteroids appear as moving points of light in an asteroid hunter's images so that when my Catalina Sky Survey teammate Alex Gibbs spotted a fuzzy moving object he immediately suspected it to be a comet. The data obtained by astronomers over the next 8 days enabled scientists at the Minor Planet Center to verify Alex's 31st comet discovery and give it the name C/2018 A6 (Gibbs). In January of 2018 it was in the constellation of Leo traveling from the vast empty space above the Sun's north pole toward the plane of the solar system which contains all of the planets and most of the asteroids. In March of 2018 Comet C/2018 A6 (Gibbs) will cross the plane of the solar system a bit farther from the Sun than the giant planet Jupiter's orbit. After that it will continue on a wide arcing parabolic path, pass under the Sun's south pole in the summer of 2019, and once again cross the plane of the solar system in February of 2021. After that it will continue into the vast empty space above the Sun's north pole from whence it came. How a comet brightens as it approaches the Sun is difficult to predict. With luck humans will be able to spot Comet C/2018 A6 (Gibbs) with their naked eye, binoculars, or a small telescope as it pays a rare visit to our planet's neighborhood.

Space it seems, is no longer the final frontier, in fact it's rapidly becoming an adventure holiday option for billionaires. As we saw with Space X's IPO launch, people are very interested in the idea of setting up a base on Mars and even what asteroid mining could look like. But how does that actually all work? In a place where the laws here on earth don't apply - is space just finders' keepers, first to plant the flag gets the land? To help answer those questions and more. 380: Think you're eating chocolate? Maybe not. In this episode, I'm breaking down what's really hiding behind some of the most recognizable chocolate brands on grocery store shelves. After digging through FDA regulations, ingredient labels, lawsuits, recalls, and independent lab testing, I found that many products marketed as "chocolate" don't actually meet the standards most people assume they do. We'll talk about the difference between real cacao and chocolate-flavored candy, why ingredients like palm oil and PGPR matter, what recent testing found in certain chocolate products, and how to identify truly high-quality chocolate if you're looking for the health benefits often associated with cacao. Plus, I share my favorite 100% cacao brands, why I eat chocolate every day, and what the research actually says about chocolate's impact on heart health, antioxidants, gut health, and more. Mars into Gemini
This week opens with a major seasonal shift. The Sun moves into Cancer on Sunday, June 21st, marking the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. After weeks of Gemini's mental buzzing and Venus in Leo's bold social energy, the atmosphere turns inward, emotional, and home-focused. The middle of the week brings a beautiful, supportive aspect between Venus and Saturn, and Saturday closes things out with an energizing aspect between Mars and Jupiter, favoring action and momentum. A brief note. These episodes are prerecorded during a five-week period away. I am not tracking current events in real time. Hold what I offer here alongside what you are actually living.Tend What Is RealWe are in the first full week of Cancer season. The Solstice has turned. The light is beginning its slow arc back toward darkness, not as loss, but as the natural rhythm of a living world that knows how to move between fullness and rest. This week is quieter in its archetypal signature — an invitation to let what has moved through in recent weeks begin to settle into meaning.Key Cycles This Week:Thursday, June 25: Venus in Leo trines Saturn in Aries. Sun in Cancer squares Neptune in Aries. Two movements pulling in different directions. Venus trine Saturn brings grounding to the heart. After recent intensity, this transit supports commitment to what genuinely matters — relationships, creative work, values lived as practice rather than ideal. At the same time the Sun squares Neptune, bringing emotional blur and permeability alongside that clarity. Stay close to what grounds you. Let the blur be present without letting it make decisions.Saturday, June 27: Mars in Taurus sextiles Jupiter in Cancer. A genuinely nourishing contact. Embodied action in service of what genuinely nourishes. What you are doing and what you genuinely value may feel more aligned than usual today. Let this ease be felt. Mars is preparing for a significant transition and Saturday offers a good closing note before the crossing.Sunday, June 28: Mars enters Gemini, remaining until August 11. Six weeks of deliberate Taurus momentum gives way to something quicker and more multi-directional. Mars in Gemini brings ideas that become impulses, communication that becomes action. In a field already electrified by Uranus in Gemini, this adds further activation to the mental field. The invitation is to carry something of Taurus into the new sign — the deliberateness, the knowing of genuine resource — so that speed and discernment move together.Larger FrameCancer season asks not what you are building or achieving but what you are genuinely tending — with care, with patience, with attention that nourishes rather than extracts. That question is its own orientation in uncertain times. The large thresholds of recent weeks are working in the background as large transits do. Slowly. In the body. In ways that will take months and years to fully reveal themselves. This week offers something simpler: a moment of grounding in what genuinely matters, a closing of one chapter of action and the opening of another.Reflection QuestionsWhere this week does what I am doing and what I genuinely value feel more aligned than usual, and what does that alignment want me to notice? As Mars moves from Taurus into Gemini, what quality of the deliberate and embodied do I want to carry into faster more multi-directional terrain? In Cancer season's invitation to tend rather than achieve, what in my life is asking for more patient nourishing attention?Tend what is real. Move with discernment into what is new. Let Cancer season do its deeper work in you.The web of life is patient. It knows how to hold what is growing even when we cannot yet see it.If the themes of this transmission are resonating — the healing of our relationship to body, earth, and what genuinely nourishes — I want to let you know about two upcoming offerings rooted in exactly this territory. On July 11 I am offering a free Earth element taster workshop, Root in the Sacred. And on July 16, the Root in the Sacred group coaching program begins — a deeper container for those ready for sustained work with the Earth element, with the body, with what it means to belong to the living world on your own terms. You can find details on both at ontheedgesofchange.com under What's Open Now.Both are invitations, not urgencies. The Space Show Presents Dr. Ryan Dowdy re ISS & Artemis Astronaut Food, May 15, 2026, FridayQuick Summary:The Space Show featured Dr. Ryan Dowdy, a former NASA ISS Food System Manager, discussing food in space and his commercial food company ReadyBar. Dowdy explained how NASA's 20-person team in Houston produces all space food, with 60+ signatures required for each item due to government regulations. He detailed the challenges of providing nutrition for astronauts, including the need for 500-calorie meal replacement bars and the importance of fresh food for psychological well-being. The discussion covered topics like packaging limitations, radiation effects on food, and the potential for growing food in space. Dowdy also shared information about his company ReadyBar, which makes meal-replacement bars designed to replace an entire meal with 30 grams of protein and 15 grams of fiber for $5.99, currently sold online with plans to expand to retailers and Amazon. The conversation explored how commercial space companies are developing their own food systems and the need for continued R&D investment in space food technology.Detailed Summary:Ryan discussed the challenges and innovations in providing food for astronauts, particularly focusing on NASA's ISS and Artemis missions. He explained how meal replacement bars became popular due to cost and packaging efficiency considerations, noting that 60% of food weight on the ISS was packaging that was discarded. Ryan described his work at NASA from 2016, where he helped update the food menu by adding more fish, fruits, and vegetables to address astronauts' nutritional needs for omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. The discussion concluded with Ryan sharing how he initially became interested in space food science through a professor's suggestion to directly ask NASA about their challenges rather than proposing solutions without understanding their needs.Ryan also discussed his experience as the ISS Food System Manager at NASA's Space Food Systems Laboratory, explaining how food scientists create meals designed to last up to two years in space. He described the process of working with astronauts to taste and rank approximately 200 menu items, noting that while shrimp cocktail was a popular choice, the Russian crew preferred more soup in their meals, leading to food exchanges between the two teams. When asked about future food options for space missions, Ryan clarified that while no insects were consumed on the ISS during his tenure, there is potential for growing food in space, though current plant growth experiments like the Veggie system didn't provide sufficient daily calories. He concluded that while space food systems aren't ready for long-duration missions like Mars yet, continued research through initiatives like the Deep Space Food Challenge is necessary.Special thanks to our sponsors:American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Helix Space in Luxembourg, Celestis Memorial Spaceflights, Astrox Corporation, Dr. Haym Benaroya of Rutgers University, The Space Settlement Progress Blog by John Jossy, The Atlantis Project, and Artless EntertainmentWe use Zoom phone numbers for program participation. For real time program participation, email Dr. Space at: drspace@thespaceshow.com for instructions and access. The Space Show is a non-profit 501C3 through its parent, One Giant Leap Foundation, Inc. Five transits this week, with Mars entering Gemini as the highlight. The Sun in Cancer is asking us early on to go back to look at what's been sitting beneath the surface, and what we might finally be ready to do with it. One of the original conspiracy theories just celebrated its 55th anniversary, as NASA continues to steal money from the American taxpayers for unknown tasks and projects. With its Nazi roots exposed, the space criminals at NASA have continued their fakery into the new millennium with the International Space Station and Mars mission bluescreens and pools disguised as space. Take a look at the evidence before coming to a conclusion, and listen to the recent words from NASA regarding the future of their space program. Watch what they do when they think that nobody is going to hold them accountable because their actions speak volumes. The greatest lie ever told is starting to lose its grip on the public as new technology is creating problems with the photographic evidence.
