It's now been more than 50 years since any human being has set foot on the Moon, but the ambition to do so again has been gathering pace over the last decade or so. But some scientists and researchers are looking further ahead and planning to establish a human presence on distant planets such as Mars. In this episode, we speak to physicist and director of the Foundation for Space Development Africa Dr Adriana Marais about her book Out of This World and Into the Next: Notes from a Physicist on Space Exploration. She tells us what plans to establish a Moon base in the coming years can teach us about living on other planets, how we'll select the crew to take on this bold journey, and how the technology being developed can help us to live more economically and environmentally here on Earth. This is a special audio interview for all listeners! As there was no Spotlight interview earlier this year, I have produced this 'extra' Spotlight for the month of May. I hope you enjoy it. :)David W. Kim (PhD: University of Sydney) is a Honorary Lecturer at the School of History and the Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS), Australian National University, a Mission Specialist at the ANU Institute for Space, and a Visiting Scholar, Harvard University, USA (2023-2024). He is a Board Member for UNESCO World Heritage Committee, Korea Government, an Associate Professor at Kookmin University, Seoul, and a NASA Judge for the Human Research Program (HRP), Johnson Space Center Huston, USA.Professor Kim, a Fellow of The Royal Historical Society (UK) and The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britian and Ireland, has conducted a new study on the selection criteria for future Mars astronauts (2033) in conjunction with the Human Research Program (HRP), which remains an open question in the Mars exploration project as part of the Korea Research Foundation's long-term project (2022- 2025) in the field of integration of space science and humanities, as a result of a research visit to Harvard University and NASA Houston, human factors, astrobiology, astrophysics, life sciences, space politics, security, space exploration, and space well-being, and has been recognized as a pioneering study among scholars in the field. In this interview, Dr. Kim first discusses the phenomenon known as the ‘Overview Effect', a profound cognitive shift that astronauts experience when they see Earth from space. It's described as a state of wonderment and self-transformation that occurs upon witnessing the Earth as a fragile, interconnected whole. Many astronauts report feeling an overwhelming sense of unity, beauty, and a newfound appreciation for humanity and the environment. He then moves on to discuss his article, “Mars Space Exploration and Astronautical Religion in Human Research History: Psychological Countermeasures of Long-Term Astronauts” from 2022 in the journal Aerospace. He expands on the challenges and issues that arise when considering long-term space travel (of at least 3 years), such as radiation, zero-gravity, isolation, confinement, the distance from Earth, and emergencies that could arise, as well as the potential for an “astronautical religion” to help mitigate or prevent these challenges. PROGRAM NOTESDr. David W. JOIN SHERI HORN HASAN @ FOR THIS WEEK'S ASTROLOGICALLY SPEAKING PODCAST WHICH DROPS MAY 23 @ https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking This week's podcast begins with a look at the chart of former president Joe Biden since his shocking prostate cancer diagnosis was announced May 18, just after the exact Sun/Uranus conjunction in Taurus on May 17. We take a deep dive into his horoscope, starting with his Progressed Lunar New Moon @ 1'30 Aquarius on May 5, 2019, through to the previous & current opposition to his 12th House Scorpio Sun by Uranus in Taurus as it transits his 6th House of health.  We posit that Biden's journey from winning the presidency in 2020 & helping restore America to full health during the Covid-19 pandemic, to his current announcement of metastasized cancer, symbolizes the current “ill health” of the U.S. In other words, that Biden's sudden shocking announcement of previously unknown cancer is awakening Americans to the same "weakening" as part of the trajectory occurring within their nation. How do we know this? Because we're under the auspices now of the current Pluto return triggered essentially since the January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol, which occurred a year before its exact return in February 2022. An insurrection incited & caused by sore loser Donald Trump in the November 3, 2020, presidential election based on false claims of election fraud—just as we approached the new Jupiter/Saturn synodic cycle on December 31, 2020, at 0'30” AQ which foretold a change in leadership. We look at how the Pluto return is annihilating the former legal rights of individuals here in conjunction with the current transiting Jupiter square to the transiting nodal axis, particularly to the Virgo South Node. And how the Mercury-ruled Virgo archetype affects our health as related to the recently passed reconciliation bill in the U.S. House of Representative which seeks “perfection” through numbers to balance the budget, yet attempts to do so by denying average citizens their previous right to government-funded health care. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, as the House bill now goes to the Senate as we approach Saturn's entrance into Mars-ruled Aries on May 24 & the Gemini New Moon & Chiron/Eris conjunction in Aries on May 26. Whether the Senate discusses reducing the health burden the House placed on individuals to pay more to take care of their health needs or not remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: The Saturn ingress into Mars--as Saturn begins his slow journey toward an exact conjunction to Neptune in Aries on February 26, 2026--we have the opportunity to awaken to the amount of wounding & chaos already caused under the guise of “fiscal responsibility.” This hypocritical claim by the U.S. Congress persists despite the fact that the current legislation wants to extend tax cuts for corporations and the rich at the expense of those in the lower income brackets to the tune of increasing our national debt by $3.8 Trillion over the next decade. That this has weakened our previous alliances & global partnerships—part and parcel of the waxing Saturn/Pluto 36-year cycle in Capricorn begun on January 12, 2020--becomes obvious as we're also still under the auspices of the currently waxing Jupiter/Saturn cycle in Aquarius begun December 31, 2020.We look at the prescient words of renowned astrologer Stephen Arroyo written in 1984 about the meaning of the change from 200 years of Jupiter/Saturn cycles in earth to air, the latter of which began in 1980 in Libra. Join us to learn more about what this “grand mutation” has meant between then & now, despite the 2000 conjunction in earth again & its return to the air element for the long term in 2020. (Hint: It concerns the “reestablishment of old-style capitalism,” & the redistribution of wealth from the poorest to the richest.) Now, as we approach Saturn's entrance into Aries, we might look at the bright side of this otherwise potentially frustrating & depressing combination of archetypal energies. On the one hand, we have the potential for an increasingly slow reduction of our rights to free speech (& more), & the resulting depression that can set in when we think we have no recourse but to bury the frustration of being told to shut up and take it.However, on the other hand, we can use this transit to devise carefully thought out long-term plans to regain our rights. Saturn in Mars-ruled Aries can slow the warrior's roll just enough to avoid impatient or impetuous moves & to direct our energies toward succeeding through hard work. The 6'06” Gemini New Moon, at 8:02 p.m. PT & 11:02 p.m. ET on May 26, can help us plant seeds to gain new perspectives by listening to the facts. Since Gemini likes to collect & pass information, but not to analyze it for conclusions, we can use our mental adaptability to consider alternative viewpoints now about what's causing our current state of chaos and how it's wounded us. The Gemini archetype is related to tactics. However, it's Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius, its archetypal opposite energy, that plans overall strategy. So, in the short term now, we can begin to discuss how to plan to regain our rights in the future, courtesy of Saturn's entrance into Mars. The upcoming Sun/Mercury conjunction in Gemini, occurring late on May 29/early May 30, depending on your time zone, may reveal more information from on high in the form of a major announcement of some kind. And this, in turn, may further awaken us to how much the recent discord & chaos has wounded us--via wounded healer Chiron's conjunction to dwarf planet Eris in Aries-- & how we've seemingly been stymied over the past few months by chaos-induced inertia. Tune in for a deep discussion on all of this--& more Astro News You Can Use--starting today, May 23!@ https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking See you then! Namaste…

A week ago on May 12th, the Full Moon in Scorpio graced the skies in all Her magnificence.  It would take me a week just to process a bit of the energy and significance of this cosmic event. This Full Moon was, and is still echoing through the personal and collective consciousness.  In this episode, I endeavor to share some thoughts, questions, ideas and insights about this zodiac sign, why it is so important for our current time and situation.Scorpio is a fixed feminine water sign that is under guidance, "rulership" of planets Pluto and Mars.  This sign is a paradox.  The water element is associated with being energetically receptive.  Water absorbs whatever it comes in contact with. Scorpio like it's sister water signs does absorb, but not in a liquid flowing way.  Scorpio is akin to water in its frozen form, ice; this is its fixed or consolidating nature. This sign is quite literally  "fire in ice".  Ice can burn the skin.Perhaps this frozen water form requires the power of two planets.   Both of these activate a heating action that liquidfies and releases the powerful potential of Scorpio energy.  The recent Full Moon in Scorpio was, and is about releasing what has been frozen on the emotional level.  Understanding the significance of this recent Full Moon, is about venturing into the emotional depths and acknowledging what parts of yourself have been hidden and disconnected from one's consciousness. In essence, the things that we often hide from ourselves is where we have the most power. Many of the emotional, physical, mental health, and spiritual issues are "Scorpio/Pluto problems".  This is the sign where we cannot hide things from self.  This is especially the case with denial of your inner most feelings.  Many of the issues that people have given the "catch all" description, "trauma", is about hiding and denying how an individual really feels about a person, situation or circumstance.  On a collective level, everywhere we look we can see what's happening when there's denial of truth, respect, honesty, empathy,  heart-centered care and  Soul awareness.  Why have mean-spiritedness, greed, self-centered cruelty and hard-heartedness become the edicts of the land? This still illuminating Full Moon in Scorpio presents us with a powerful message by way of Pluto. "Ready to stand in your own power?  Listen to the message of your "inner Scorpio" wisdom".   Let's have an Astrology Conversation.
