Recently, a calculated attempt by the Biden campaign to defame GOP frontrunner Donald Trump took place. They retorted that Trump, the 45th president had objectionably labeled illegal immigrants as 'animals'. However, this was a twist of truth; in fact, Trump was referring to an illegal immigrant who had heartlessly ended the life of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old college student from Georgia, in February. Laken Riley, once a vibrant presence on the University of Georgia's campus, was tragically discovered deceased on February 22. Sorrow and shock spread across the school, triggered by the abrupt loss of the young woman who failed to return home from a jog around the university's intramural fields, as reported by a friend. A distressing scene met the authorities who found Riley without any signs of life and were sadly unable to revive her. The young nursing student's death was suspicious due to visible wounds on her body, which set off alarm bells about a potential act of violence and prompted law enforcement to initiate an investigation. The perpetrator, later identified as 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, was found to be the primary suspect. As investigators dug deeper, horrifying details came to light. It was reported that Riley was victim to a brutal assault in which an object was used to cause severe disfigurement to her body and skull.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“Preach the Gospel at all times – if necessary, use words” is a quote often misattributed to St. Francis. What are some other popular misquotes? Trent Horn joins us. We look at the people, places and culture of the New Testament with NT Wright.
Most likely that favorite quote you've been throwing around didn't come from the person you thought. From the movie quote "Luke, I am your father" from Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back to the quote "golf is a good walk spoiled" by Mark Twain - Both incorrect by the way. Every generation misquotes in their own way. Some are just plain misquoted, while others are just remembered wrong (take that Star Wars quote for example. Darth Vader actually says "No, I am your father.")Fred Shapiro, lecturer and editor of the Yale Book of Quotations and The New Yale Book of Quotations has made it his business to study quotes and make sure they are correct. He sat down with the Team at 5 Things to talk quotes. He said our cultures today is geared more toward conciseness with snippets and soundbites. That people are less likely to read through a book or an argument. They want something shorter. Punchier. He said some of the misquoting comes from that mindset. He said movies quotes are very popular and often misquoted and condensed. But does it really matter if a person gets the gist of what is being said? Shapiro said it does matter.Don't believe us on some of the misquotes? There is a need to understand verses and passages of the Bible contextually. A verse taken out of context can be distorted until it means something completely different from its original meaning. You can make the Bible say anything you want if you ignore the context, and that is certainly wrong. Context is very important but it is not always king. If we rigidly insist that context is king, then the apostles, and even Jesus Himself, had wrongfully misquoted Scriptures too.For example, did the apostle Matthew misquote Hos 11:1 and taken it out of context?Did Charles Spurgeon, the prince of preachers in the 19th century, regularly take Scriptures out of context? What do you do when someone you know (and maybe even respect) quotes a verse out of context, and it disturbs you?
Today we discuss the most misinterpreted Bible verses and the ones that are often taken out of context and used on greeting cards, church signs, and coffee mugs. Is such a thing dangerous? You bet it is! Also: Does God promise His most faithful people will avoid trouble?

Welcome back to another episode of Misquotes a movie podcast. Today we have Lucille on the podcast again (She was on Joker) and we talked about Shutter Island. We needed someone with her Mental Health Background to talk us through some of the ins and outs of this movie and what things they got right, and didn’t get right. Other than that this might be the most slept on movie of Scorsese’s later half of his career and it’s not even close. DiCaprio is amazing (per usual) and Mark Ruffalo does a great job alongside with a very earnest performance. Enjoy the podcast!
It's Friday, so that means it's panel time.On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump "made a theatrical prime-time appeal for the success of his divisive and turbulent stewardship after three years, projecting confidence that a strong economy and a reset of US standing in the world has put the nation on the right path despite the historic impeachment that has marred his term," The Washington Post reported. So, we started with Republican's chanting “four more years” and Trump's refusal to shake House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's hand, and we closed with Pelosi ripping up her copy of the address after Trump finished delivering it. Such partisanship in American politics. Who would have thunk it?"After 'Epic Nightmare' in Iowa, Democratic App Built by Secretive Firm Shadow Inc. Comes Under Scrutiny," read a Tuesday headline in Common Dreams. The article elaborates: "The app, according to several news reports, was developed by the secretive for-profit tech firm Shadow Inc., which has ties to and receives funding from ACRONYM, a Democratic digital non-profit organization. Shadow's CEO is Gerard Niemira, who worked on Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign." What's going on here? "An Airbus A320 jet carrying 172 passengers was nearly shot down on its approach to the Syrian capital, Damascus, shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday after Syria fired antiaircraft missiles in response to an alleged Israeli attack," The Washington Post reported Friday. There's a very interesting story in The Intercept, entitled "The FBI's China Obsession: The US Government Secretly Spied on Chinese American Scientists, Upending Lives and Paving the Way for Decades of Discrimination." In it, Mara Hvistendahl opens the story in 1973, talking about Harry Sheng, a mechanical engineer for Sparton Corporation, a defense contractor in Jackson, Michigan. "Sheng was among thousands of ethnic Chinese scientists then living in the United States, the early pioneers in what would become a sizable swath of the American research force," Hvistendahl wrote. He was a native of Jiangsu Province and a naturalized US citizen. He went home to see his sick mother, but after he and his wife returned from their 1973 visit to China, "the US government's scrutiny intensified." What happened next will leave you shocked. We've got all these stories and more!GUESTS:Caleb Maupin — Journalist and political analyst who focuses his coverage on US foreign policy and the global system of monopoly capitalism and imperialism. What a year in movies! 2019 has been killer. Marriage Story came out just last month in December and Kinley and Frederick can’t stop talking about it. It’s definitely an Oscar award contender and it’s worthy of many awards. Editing this episode was a lot of fun and the conversation is amazing. Please enjoy!
“Diiiiiigggg thiiiissss “This was such a fun podcast to record. Originally we did this before the holidays, but there was some technical difficulties with the sound. Now it‘s fixed and good to go. We knew going into Tarantino Tuesdays that we weren’t going to cover all of his movies but I am so glad we got to finish with this one. It’s slowly climbing up the ranks as one of my favorite films from Tarantino. I think Kinley likes the movie and is coming around to loving it after this conversation! Let us know what you think! We hope you enjoyed this season! Frederick
In this episode we deep dive into Kill Bill 1 & 2 the Japanese Homage Epic by Quinton Tarantino. It's such a fun podcast Kinley and I recorded and I'm glad we got to share our favorite things about these fantastic films. We hope you all enjoy !

In 1985 The Watch Tower released a book called Life, How did it get here? By evolution or creation? The book was studied by the Jehovah's Witnesses at their book studies and was hailed as a definitive tool to counter the argument for evolution. However, the book proved to be a feeble attempt by The Watch Tower to prove their doctrine. The book contained numerous misquotes of experts in the field of evolutionary science, biology, palaeontology and anthropology. Quotes were taken out of context and twisted to suit the narrative within the book. Needless to say, many of these experts called out The Watch Tower for their dishonesty. It leaves a question mark over the ability of the Watch Tower's teachings and doctrines to stand up to scrutiny and truth. #evolution #creation #JehovahsWitnesses

Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy Welcome to Day 981 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom New Testament Misquotes – Wisdom Wednesday Thank you for joining us for our five days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Today is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-981/ (Day 981) of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is important to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical worldview, it is required that you also have a proper understanding of God's word. Especially in our western cultures, we do not fully understand the Scriptures from the mindset and culture of the authors. In order to help us all have a better understanding of some of the more obscure passages in God's word, we are investing Wisdom Wednesday reviewing a series of essays from one of today's most prominent Hebrew Scholars Dr. Micheal S. Heiser. He has compiled these essays into a book titled I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible. Sometimes when a New Testament writer quotes the Old Testament, the two passages do not match precisely. Is the New Testament writer misquoting the Old Testament? Or is there another explanation? Today's essay will explore… New Testament Misquotes Luke records that when Jesus began His ministry, He went to the synagogue in Nazareth on the Sabbath Day. When He stood up to read the Scriptures as recorded in Luke 4:17, he said, “The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written.” Jesus read the description of a climactic arrival of the anointed one from Isaiah https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+61%3A1-2&version=NLT (61:1-2), excluding the last half of verse two. That omission is understandable, but if you look at https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+4%3A18-19+&version=NLT (Luke 4:18-19) and Isaiah https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+61%3A1-2&version=NLT (61:1-2) side by side, several dissimilarities in what Jesus read are readily apparent. In the original Old Testament passage, there is no reference to making the blind see. Conversely, Isaiah speaks of “binding up the brokenhearted,” a phrase absent in Luke. Since Luke is clear that Jesus was reading from a scroll, the divergence is not due to Luke (or Jesus) quoting from memory and messing up the passage! What's going on here? Let me read both passages from the New Living Translation. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+4%3A18-19&version=NLT (Luke [4:18]-19) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord's favor has come, and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies. (And since Luke was not Jewish and spoke Greek, the Septuagint would have been his Bible.) The Septuagint version of Isaiah 61:1-2 reads in

Tonight on the show Erick talks about how the media misquotes everything, the Russian ad buys during the election and the amount of abuse in Hollywood.
Here are movies that are commonly misquoted. (And, spoiler alert, Joe misquotes them all!)
If we believe this often misquoted scripture, we respond to God opposite to the way scripture teaches. He has not asked us to tough it out and carry more weight. He repeatedly taught to put our burdens on his shoulders. God WILL give you more than you can handle so that you come to understand his Presence and Power

Smitty tells us about some famous movie misquotes-things you thought you heard at the movies but you didn't! And Mike B commemorates the 50th anniversary of John Glenn's launch into earth orbit in Friendship 7.
