The cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has been nominated for an Academy Award for “Sinners," an American horror film nominated this year for a record sixteen Oscars and thirteen BAFTAs. It's a period drama written and directed by Ryan Coogler, set in the 1930s South, with a supernatural twist. Autumn's previous credits include The Last Showgirl and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Anita talks to Autumn about her career so far and becoming the first woman of colour - and only the fourth woman ever - to be recognized in the Oscars cinematography category.Following the summer riots in 2024, the Women and Equalities Committee examined the impact of increasing tensions on women in Muslim communities across the UK and reported that the online, verbal and physical abuse and discrimination faced by Muslim women was having a ‘deeply damaging impact on individual lives and a corrosive effect on community cohesion'. Baroness Shaista Gohir OBE, CEO of the Muslim Women's Network and Iman Atta, CEO of Tell Mama join Anita to discuss the WEC's findings.AI companions are becoming increasingly common, with one in three adults now using them for conversation, advice and support. Now recent research from Bangor University has shown that many teen AI companion users believe their bots can think or understand. That research prompted Nicola Bryan, a reporter for BBC Wales News to investigate and acquire an "AI boyfriend" of her own in the process. Nicola talks to Anita about what happened next.Autism probably affects girls and boys equally, according to a long term study by the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. The new research challenges previously held assumptions that autism is more common among males; it found that by the age of twenty, the male-to-female ratio of diagnoses was equal. But in children aged under ten, four boys are diagnosed for every one girl. To discuss the findings, Anita is joined by Doctor Judith Brown, Head of Evidence and Research at the National Autistic Society and Betsey, an autistic 18-year old university student.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Rebecca Myatt

We gave Jenny free reign on the choice of movie to talk about and she went for her favourite; the story of the greatest composer who ever lived, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This masterpiece, directed by Milos Foreman and based on a 1979 stage play swept the Oscars in 1985 and if you've never had the pleasure you'll soon find out why. You can find Jenny's standup material easily on YouTube, and check out her website where she is currently fundraising for her next show: https://www.jennyzigrino.com/ It was an absolute pleasure to have her on. And for fans of irevenrent sexy alternate history I also showcase one of my own personal favourite projects, The Princess Thieves, the audiodrama of which can be found here: https://newcentury.bandcamp.com/ Guest: Jenny Zigrino

Most votes in his favor skewed independents and some liberals who were disenchanted with the Biden Administration and their lack of faith in the Democratic agenda. Have you ever wondered who is behind all the walk-on and walk-off music at the Oscars ceremony? The music that plays when an award nominee walks on-stage to accept the award, or the music that plays them off when their speech goes on too long. Today on AirTalk, we sit down with composer and lead music arranger for the Academy Awards, Chris Walden. Walden writes all the walk-on and walk-off music for the ceremony. Because winners are not known until the live broadcast, Walden must plan for all contingencies, arranging over 115 pieces of music, each unique to every possible winner. We talk to Walden about what goes into preparing music for the ceremony. Chris Walden is the founder and artistic director of the Pacific Jazz Orchestra. He will be conducting the 40-piece hybrid big band and string orchestra for a Valentine’s Day performance at The Soraya called “Love Inside Out,” headlined by vocalist Veronica Swift. The concert is on Saturday, February 14, at 8:00 pm. Many of the ensemble's players also perform in the Academy Awards orchestra. You can get tickets here.

Stigall talks with the First Lady's senior advisor today on the success of her new documentary "Melania" and it's not just online reviews. It's a huge revenue story. Much like the polling on voter ID and support for legal immigration - there's what you hear and what real Americans actually feel and how they act. Continued confirmation in today's show - you're not crazy. The media is in the midst of a massive gaslighting operation. But that doesn't mean justice is being served at the speed Trump voters expect. Stigall explores that in more detail today. From the fraud in Minnesota, to the attempts on the President's life, the murder of Charlie Kirk, the Epstein case - Trump voters want action. Meanwhile, is the Senate GOP slow walking common sense on voter ID and citizenship requirements for voting? This episode begins with a hypothetical question: what would it look like if Property Mastering were its own Oscar category? We explore it as part of Below the Line's 2026 Oscar series. This week on Below the Line, Skid is joined by Scott Buckwald and Gregg Bilson, Jr. for a deep dive into the craft of property mastering through the lens of the 98th Academy Awards. Using a fictional Oscar ballot as a framework, they explore how props function as storytelling tools — shaping character, tone, and authenticity across a wide range of films. As with the rest of this year's Oscar series, the conversation is available both as an audio podcast and as a full video episode on YouTube, offering listeners and viewers a closer look at how below-the-line crafts are discussed and evaluated from inside the work itself. Our discussion ranges across: Why property mastering sits at the intersection of design, performance, and logistics — often unnoticed, but never incidental How props help define character and period across films like Nuremberg and Song Sung Blue The heightened demands of genre storytelling, from the mythic scale of Frankenstein to the grounded realism of Sinners Managing continuity and narrative logic when props evolve over the course of a story The technical and ethical considerations involved in handling story-critical objects, from weapons to documents and artifacts How preparation, research, and documentation allow property masters to support performance without drawing attention to the work itself Why collaboration with actors and other departments is essential to making props feel lived-in rather than ornamental What this hypothetical exercise reveals about how deeply props are woven into storytelling, even when they're easy to overlook The conversation highlights property mastering as a discipline defined by preparation, judgment, and storytelling instincts — a craft that quietly anchors performance and world-building across every genre.

First up, the breakfast TV king himself. Karl Stefanovic is launching a podcast, and Mia has thoughts on what exactly this means. Plus, we need to talk about Sydney Sweeney’s new lingerie brand, Syrn. (It’s pronounced 'Siren'... apparently). We deep-dive into that viral Hollywood sign video and ask: Is this actually a new era of 'post-feminist' empowerment, or are we just being sold the same old story in better lighting? And, there’s a new documentary about Melania Trump. The team investigates the very curious reports of seat-filling incentives to make the film’s launch look like a hit. Colm Tóibín is a celebrated Irish writer, but as a child words didn't come easily. Navigating grief as a boy when his father died, he developed a stammer. Instead of talking, Colm watched and listened, collecting stories that wove their way into his novels. He's won a string of awards and been nominated for the prestigious Booker Prize three times. His novel Brooklyn was made into a movie starring Saoirse Ronan and was up for several Oscars. He finds it hilarious that although he was invited to the event he had to be ushered in through a back door – the red carpet is apparently not for novelists. Beyond his writing, Colm was a vocal campaigner for the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Ireland. He's also breaking taboos by speaking openly about testicular cancer and highlighting some of the comedy moments from those bleak times. His latest book is called A Long Winter.Presenter: Jo Fidgen Producer: Andrea KennedyLives Less Ordinary is a podcast from the BBC World Service that brings you the most incredible true stories from around the world. Each episode a guest shares their most dramatic, moving, personal story. To record an episode about Hamnet, the new film from Chloe Zhao, or not to record an episode about Hamnet? That was the question – and a question I answered in a heartbeat when Chloe's team reached out late last year about chatting with the Nomadland writer-director. The historical drama, starring Jesse Buckley and Paul Mescal, takes viewers inside the anguish of William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes Hathaway, after the death of one of their children in 1596. In the movie, Shakespeare throws himself into his work as part of his mourning process, resulting in one of the best-loved and most influential plays of all time. In doing so, though, Agnes is left alone with just ghosts, grief and her remaining children – themselves angry and confused at Hamnet's death – for company. Adapted from an acclaimed novel by Irish author Maggie O'Farrell, who joined Chloe and I for our conversation, the film is as emotionally bruising as they come. It's a tale about parenthood, personhood, how storytellers process pain through their art and what it means to witness that. The film ends with this remarkable final scene shot at London's historic Globe Theatre in which Shakespeare has transmuted his pain into a play that both pours salt into the deepest imaginable wound for Agnes, and seemingly offers her some closure. In the spoiler conversation you're about to hear, the three of us get into the evolution of that moment, and other key scenes from a film that won Best Drama and Best Actress for Buckley at the Golden Globes and is expected to be in the mix at this year's Oscars. Maggie talks about the connections between this story and her other work, such as I Am, I Am, I Am – which also dealt with mortality. And Chloe reveals how she uses colour as a storytelling weapon in Hamnet – with red representing Agnes and inky blues representing the Bard himself.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. After PTA’s ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER reigned supreme on the show’s Top 10 Films of 2025 roundtable, Adam and Josh vowed to give the film the Sacred Cow treatment ahead of the ‘26 Oscars. Days after it received 13 nominations – including Best Picture and Director – that’s just what they did. Plus, a few thoughts on those nominations, and the most challenging Massacre Theatre in the show’s history (or so Adam would like you to believe). It is very unclear what is going on between Washington and Minnesota right now. A few days ago Tim Walz compared ICE officers to Nazis, then he turned around and worked with them, so naturally we brought in Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles, and Andrew Klavan to explain reality. Daily Wire reporter Jennie Taer joins to share what she saw on an ICE ride along in Minneapolis amid the protests, and the guys also get into all the Oscar movies you have not seen, and neither have we.
