Well, it's December, and the holidays are officially upon us. Am I excited, you ask? Well…no. To be honest, this time of year always gets me nervous. All the pressure to deliver on a fun holiday themed episode after the combined promotions of Hot Dave's Summer Film Fest and Shocktober?! It's enough to drive a video store manager/podcast host insane! If only there was a sports film with an inspirational speech that could cure me of these pre-show jitters… I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we form our own bobsled team are fellow cinephiles and disgraced former Olympians Cody and Janna. Topics of discussion in this episode include a sports movie that has it all, including a highly Disney-fied version of the real story; we wonder if Sanka secretly sabotaged the group's chances at the Gold; and finally, I notice a startling sound effect make an appearance from a certain Galaxy Far, Far Away… Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.

Living in the countryside, far from the hustle of city centres, is the dream of many large cities inhabitants… We then move away from urban areas and breathe. However, these areas are often underserved by public transport and bicycle infrastructure remains discreet. Households living in these areas often have two vehicles. In most cases, it is precisely with this second vehicle that the daily short trips (home to work, pick-up kids at school, small grocery shopping,…) are made and it is these exact same trips that could be made by bike. SANKA wants to address this issue and replace the second car with its brand new bike: Bob. With Bob, a bike that uses the codes of the car (convertible four-wheeled cargo bike) the startup Sanka, founded by Benoit Tholence, offers a sustainable mobility solution to citizens who do not live in the city center and therefore do not benefit from public transport at hand. The idea behind this extraordinary vehicle, is to be an alternative to households' second cars for daily short trips, less than 10 km, and which require to be able to transport the family comfortably and especially safely. Even if it is almost 2 times smaller than a smart, this bike, allows to be clearly visible by other users on the road. Indeed, country roads are not often equipped with infrastructure for cycling, which makes it dangerous to use them when you are cycling. With Bob, this problem is solved. In addition, the other two major advantages of this solution are that it provides a real reliable and robust electric assistance and enough space to carry 2 children, shopping bags and possibly another adult.Commuting - work, home - school with children, or to the supermarket after school are all possible! You are conquered and you dream of discovering this new low carbon mode of transport? This project that Benoit presents to us is not yet live but will be released at the end of March as a pilot in some communities in Auvergne Rhône Alpes and Burgundy in particular. It will be proposed by the communities, according to a model of long-term rental from individuals. What to broaden the use of the bike, contribute to a revival of road users and soothe our daily journeys that will be done with less noise and gas pollution and especially less stress! To learn more about the genesis of this project, the motivations of the startup Sanka and its founder Benoit Tholence, as well as alternatives to the car for more sustainable and multimodal mobility, listen to this episode!
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/madmike3/message

Can you believe it's been a whole three decades of butt-whippin' time? We wanted to commemorate the occasion by re-releasing one of our favorite episodes with a hopefully fun surprise at the end (which Jeff calls an "Easter Egg," but if you announce that out loud, it's not really an "Easter Egg" anymore, is it?). Please take this time to sit and contemplate what it actually means to feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme—and listen to this episode while you do it. Like Jeff with Wayne's World, Cool Runnings was one of the first movies Angie memorized. She practiced her Sanka impression religiously, and thankfully there is no tape recording or home video proof (it was 1993, ok?). We discuss the likeability of this movie transcending age, gender, and genre preference because of its unique charm and humor. Plus, we do some true story fact checking. The 1970's is one of the greatest decades in the history of the development of modern metal. Back in the 70's, it was not at all uncommon to get 2 albums from the same artist within the same year! During the 70's, you'd drop the needle on the record, turn on the lava lamps and the black lights, indulge in your preferred relaxer of choice, and be instantly transported to an alternate dimension of sonic bliss where, again, it was not at all uncommon to have the entire first side of an album consist of one song, especially when listening to RUSH and their trailblazing, early progressive metal output from the 1970's. Get ready to hear “one of the angriest riffs of 1976” while enjoying one of the most mind blowing “one take wonder” epics of all time with a massive “priapism of percussion” (aka “drumbone”). Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Kristi Callan, daughter of actress and author K Callen. That's K as in the letter, no period. We talk to Kristi about her mother's 50+ year career in stage, film, television and commercials in everything from an iconic All in The Family episode to the recent Knives Outbuzzed about film. Along the way we talk about Sanka commercials, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Carnivale, American Gigolo, Deep Space Nine, A Touch of Class, The Onion Field and much more. We even discuss a long lost Benson & Hedges cigarette commercial. You remember the ‘healthy' cigarette! We also take time to discuss Kristi's musical career in bands like Wednesday Week, The Roswell Sisters, Goat Deity, Dime Box Band and even aCheap Trick cover band, Cheap Chick. We hit upon everything from Hootenanny's, several cross country moves, a great Norman Lear story, the LA punk rock scene of the late seventies, early eighties, The Ramones recognizing her mother on a flight, seeing Eddie Van Halen on the set of One Day at a Time, meeting The Brady Bunch's Christopher Knight, long lost LA venues like The Starwood and the Music Machine and much more. It's evident from this interview just how much Kristi loves her mother who is going strong and sill acting at age 87. So much so, Kristi barely wanted to talk about her own career and wanted to focus almost exclusively on her mother alone. But we persevered and got her to talk about it all on this brand new episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

[00:00:15] Jess O'Reilly: Hey, hey, we've got a quickie episode for you, babe. How are you doing today? [00:00:19] Brandon Ware: I'm awesome. Thank you. How are you? [00:00:21] Jess O'Reilly: I'm good. I'm good. We are in the heat of summer. We're in Barcelona, our now second home. [00:00:27] Brandon Ware: It's hot and it's hot. [00:00:28] Jess O'Reilly: I guess it's our first home now, but the streets are super packed with tourists. Of course. It's a really young city. Like, I definitely am on the, I feel like I'm on the older side here. I don't know when that happened. You wake up one day and then you're old. [00:00:43] Brandon Ware: Yeah. I mean, yes. Welcome to my world. [00:00:46] Jess O'Reilly: Young people here for a ton of music festivals, right? [00:00:48] Jess O'Reilly: I feel like there's just a music festival every weekend here, and so I stumble trying, trying to be one of the cool kids. I never go to the music festival, so no. I'm like, I'm in bed before they start dinner here in Barcelona. They eat dinner at 11 o'clock at night. [00:01:01] Brandon Ware: Yeah, you gotta gotta find that early. [00:01:03] Brandon Ware: It's kinda like being in Florida. [00:01:05] Jess O'Reilly: I need the senior special. Absolutely. Well, actually it's weird. It's easy to adjust to the lifestyle here, I've found, because the sun goes down at like 10 o'clock at night. [00:01:13] Brandon Ware: Yeah. I feel ridiculous when I'm wrapping up my day getting ready for bed and I can hear kids playing inside. [00:01:19] Jess O'Reilly: But it's also, I find we end up going to dinner later because it's so bright out, right? Like seven and eight o'clock at night. Everything's. Alive, sort of like the Sanka set, like the um, after work thing back, back in Toronto and in North America. But I was thinking about music festivals because you see, um, every weekend there seems to be a change of attire on the streets. [00:01:40] Jess O'Reilly: Cuz I guess different festivals attract different demographics and there tends to be a look, right? Like when you think about Coachella, there's a look, I know people dress differently, but there's some thematic elements and love honey with whom I'm good friends. They did a, a survey. To find out how many people are actually having sex. [00:01:57] Jess O'Reilly: At these music festivals. Have you, have you had sex at a concert? [00:01:59] Brandon Ware: [00:02:00] No, I have not had sex. I, no,

In November 1987, Jamaican sprinter Derice Bannock trains to qualify for the 100 metre in the 1988 Summer Olympics. He fails to qualify when fellow runner Junior Bevil accidentally stumbles, not only falling over himself, but knocking down Derice, and another competitor named Yul Brenner.Derice petitions for a re-heat, but committee leader Barrington Coolidge, though he pities Derice, refuses. He invites Derice to try again in four years' time, or to try out for one of the only two other sports Jamaica competes in; boxing and cycling. Derice spots a photograph in Coolidge's office, featuring his late father Ben, standing next to a fellow Olympic gold medal winner. Coolidge identifies the man as disgraced American bobsled medallist Irving Blitzer, who was disqualified for cheating in the 1972 Winter Olympics, and now works as a bookie, fortunately not far from where Derice lives. Derice realizes he could participate in the 1988 Winter Olympics by forming a bobsled team, recruiting his friend Sanka Coffie, a pushcart derby champion.Derice and Sanka track down Blitzer, who at first refuses to help Derice, until learning he is Ben Bannock's son. He reluctantly agrees to coach the team. A recruitment drive fails miserably. Blitzer shows a film about bobsledding on a slide projector, but is heckled, and when the lights come on, only Derice and Sanker are still present. Fortunately, Junior Bevil and Yul Brenner arrive late to the meeting, making the required four-man team. Junior, like Derice, can't wait another four years to enter the Olympics, and Yul Brenner just wants to get off the island. The team train with Blitzer, though Coolidge refuses to fund the $20,000 needed to participate in the Olympics, believing the team's inexperience will bring shame to Jamaica. Derice's attempts to find another sponsor fail miserably. The team are forced to find other ways to earn the money- Sanker tries his hand at busking, with no success. Yul Brenner holds arm-wrestling contests, and Derice even sets up a kissing booth- these ventures meet with moderate success, but they still haven't anywhere near enough money. In the end, Junior sells his car to finance the trip.In Calgary, Blitzer registers the team, receiving an old bobsled from his former teammate Roger. The Jamaicans struggle to drive the bobsled and adapt to the cold, though exercise and hard work eventually pays off. Derice begins to copy the techniques of the very efficient East German team. The East German team, and their captain, Josef Groole- the current bobsled world record holder- constantly heckle the team during try-outs. Eventually, all the members of the team except Derice get into a bar fight with the East Germans. Derice reprimands them severely. After weeks of training, the team successfully qualifies for the finals, only to be disqualified by the Olympic committee, but this is only where their story begins...::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;Our DM is Dalton RiddleOur Players are Andrew Gehrlein, Michael Adair & Alissa AdairEditing by Alissa, Michael, and AndrewTheme song (both old and new!!) by Dustin Hook (so talented)Please check out our Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok @dungeonradiohour to keep up with the latest DRH news! bye for now~

On today's episode we will talk about the connections we make through food. I'll talk about some of the foods that remind me of my own childhood. Anyone else remember Sanka or Coke Milk? I'll also talk about my evolution as a cook (I now know the difference between a clove and a bulb of garlic). And I'm VERY excited to have my friend Vanessa David here for an interview! Vanessa and I will talk about "food for nourishment and food for love ," (a phrase Vanessa has coined). Vanessa will share how growing up with immigrant parents from different countries shaped her eating and how she has worked with children to help them expand their pallets. Here's a little information on Vanessa David: Vanessa spent over twenty years pursuing a theatre career, which meant she also had a food service career whether she liked it or not. As an actress she worked in Connecticut, New York and Kentucky. Also a playwright, her plays have been published and performed across the country. She worked behind the counter at TCBY and Subway, made cakes at Baskin Robbins and a local bakery, and eventually typecast herself as a server at California Pizza Kitchen. She spent seven years with the Darien School Lunch Program in Connecticut, working her way up from cashier to elementary manager. When that came to an end she wrote her memoir The Lunch Teacher. She is currently searching for an agent and/or publisher. Follow @thelunchteacher on Instagram for updates. If you like this episode please subscribe! And help me out by leaving a review below. Today on part one of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Peter Ackerman, son of actress Elinor Donohue and TV executive Harry Ackerman. We talk to Peter about growing up in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles and how his parents worked on iconic television shows from the 1950s through to the 1990s. For Harry, that meant being directly responsible for shows like “I Love Lucy”, “Bewitched”, “Gidget”, “Gunsmoke”, “Dennis The Menace”, “The Monkees” and dozens more. For Elinor that was iconic roles as Betty Anderson on “Father Knows Best as well as “The Andy Griffith Show”, “The Odd Couple”, “Newhart”, “Get A Life” and many more. Talking to Peter was a real pleasure and a walk down memory lane as we hear behind the scenes tales of family friends William Asher and Elizabeth Montgomery, a first kiss from the daughter of a famous comedian, visiting the set of “Batman”, not visiting the set of “The Monkees” due to Tork's curse and the twisted realization that your school friend actor Johnny is actually playing your mother's son in a TV show. We talk about long gone LA restaurants, restaurants still present, what it was like to be the son of an actress and then meet the child playing your mother's son on her TV show, your first kiss ever with a comedian's daughter, Sabrina vs. Serena, the end of Bewitched, the amazingly cross Paul Lynde, the lone time Peter asked for a twinkle of Elizabeth Montgomery's nose and much more. It's all here on the next episode, of the Rarified Heir Podcast. Take a listen.

Today we're talking about Kava. Kava is a legal plant medicine that has been drunk for centuries by the people in the Pacific Islands (places like FIJI, Tonga and Papua New Guinea) to enjoy states of relaxed, calm, clear mindedness. Many Islanders will drink Kava in place of coffee or alcohol. Kava is starting to gain recognition here in the states for elevating mood, enhancing quality sleep and also increasingly used as an alternative to alcohol. Kava's biggest claim to fame is it reduces anxiety. For someone like me, who runs anxious, that's appealing. Kava's also been known to enhance mental focus and creativity. I've been using Kava since December of 2021 before bed to enhance my deep sleep. But as you'll hear today, not all Kava is created equal. There's a lot of crap Kava out there, and you need to know how to avoid the crap and hone in on the good stuff. It's the same thing with coffee - Sanka ain't the same as Bulletproof. So I've brought on Cameron George, founder of TruKava, who's products meet the rigorous standards of The World Health Organization to classify their Kava as a food safe for daily use. And I've been using one of their products, KavaPlex, since December. IN THIS EPISODE What is Kava, is it safe, who should and shouldn't use it What are the ways in which you may might want to use Kava Cameron's personal journey getting off Adderall and anti-anxiety medications in two months using Kava Links to TruKava products will in the shownotes
WE'RE ON THE AIR, SLED GODS. Angie was feeling “very Olympic” last month and picked an all-time favorite, Cool Runnings, in the spirit of the 2022 Beijing games (if you even noticed the Olympics happened last month). Like Jeff with Wayne's World, Cool Runnings was one of the first movies Angie memorized all the way through. She practiced her Sanka impression religiously, and thankfully there is no tape recording or home video proof (it was 1993, ok?). We discuss the likeability of this movie transcending age, gender, and genre preference because of its unique charm and humor. Plus, we do some true story fact checking. #015: "Feel the Rhythm! Feel the Rhyme! Get on up, it's bobsled time! Cool Runnings!" - Sanka in the movie Cool RunningsIn the spirit of Winter Olympics, I had to quote one of my favorite winter Olympic movies. The Jamaican team had this ritual of saying this quote right before they start their race to get them into their zone: it helps energize and gets the team in sync to focus collectively right before they start racing.Do you sometime feel you have a tough time staying focused? Do you have moment in your life where you might feel a bit scatterbrained, or you have like 2 dozen ideas, but when it's time to take action, you freeze. Or maybe you're applying the wrong strategies at the wrong times. How do you stay focused at the task at hand when the clocks ticking and you have a deadline coming up? Quote: "Focus on the possibilities for success, not on the potential for failure." - Napoleon HillToday, I'm going to dive deep in the topic of focus and concentration. Are you applying the right 'light' to the situation at hand? Is your 'camera' focusing on the right objective? And does your 'actions' match your focus? I'll explain what I mean by "lights, camera action!" In today's episode, I will share:Lights, Camera, Action! Are you applying the right 'Light Focus' strategy with "Actions" to match that focus? How creating the right ritual can become a powerful tool to raise your vibration and energy in accomplishing your goals!I'll share action steps you can take on how you can get into your zone to focus on what it takes to get the job done!Join our Boom Vision family and hit subscribe! It's time to continue our Winter Olympics month with the best possible movie to cover as Ben & Colin go back to 1993 and celebrate the amazing, the iconic and the legendary Cool Runnings! Why can we just gush over how amazing this movie is? How amazing is Doug E Doug and why hasn't he been James Bond yet? Does Ben even know who John Candy is? Why are so many kids just used randomly at the beginning of this movie for no reason? Why do hardly any people show up to the Jamaican Olympic trials? Why doesn't Junior recognise any of his competitors? Why is Sanka the best thing about this movie? Should That Darn Cat have received a higher rating on IMDB? Why do so many people in Jamaica find it funny that Jamaican sprinters could push a bobsled? Why do German accents never sound good in a positive situation?
