We talk the Sicko Mode performance on Nov 5th; Kanye's allegation that "crept thru the light switch" is a subliminal aimed at Ye for max psychic damage, seemingly implying the Drizzler cheated w/ Kim K when they were still together; a comet striking an XXXTentacion lookalike in the music, which almost perfectly mirrors a scene in a film where Kardashian is struck by an asteroid in its choreography, granting further credence to Ye's theory; "my dog would prob do it for a Louis belt" possibly hinting at Drizzy putting out the X hit; the ARG, reality shifting promo of the fest; "out like a light"... RGEB becoming main character for a day on Twitter bc of his Astro thread & the Chapo callout, who passed over the corporate greed critiques in their coverage & just dunked on his purported esoteric conspiracy gullibility; the possibility some private cyberwarfare outfit like Team J o r g e or a US equivalent might have been enlisted to combat AstroWorld conspiracy theories online w/ bots; if an OP, likely US intel pulling the strings; Drake as soul-eater, devouring X's vibe & donning his occulted rap persona like a mask (see: Travis collabs) to peel off his support & buttress his unassailable popularity; the wild pre-prepared disaster & tragedy response protocols, including the order for concert personnel to refer to any dead bodies as "SMURFS", which evokes the Fae, Little People, Leprechauns, Djinn, you-name-it...; not to mention rhyming w/ the Astro merch shirts of lil blue figures passing thru a portal; Pied Piper folkloric valences in the AstroWorld cover art & the "Stargazing" lyrics; the AstroWorld theme park pre-history;... Getting back to our rap esotericism close reading of some of the numerology flowing through the AstroWorld ritualized subtext... We talk K y l i e Cosmetics x Nightmare on Elm Street Halloween Collection promo, which dropped exactly one month prior to the fest, and which is basically just naked Kylie getting smothered w/ fake blood in a darkly lit room... Which Klonny realized is highly evocative of the Thelemic deity known as Babalon, goddess of sex magick & the female sexual impulse; we talk Scarlet Women; Jack Parsons & L. Ron Hubbard's Babalon Working in the Mojave; Scarlet Woman Marjorie Cameron; etc. And we drive home how Kylie's commercial is leaning into these Crowleyian allusions by way of the blood moon behind her, which evokes MoonChildren... From there, we're talking the belief-beggaring Satanic numerology of the fest's dates, namely it falling on the same day as Kris Jenner's 66th BDay (Travis's ex-bb-mama-in-law); the fact that Travis's Bday is on Walpurgisnacht, the pagan holiday filled w/ effigy burning & witches on broomstick legends... And the fact that Apr. 30th (Scott's Bday) is also the date of the founding of the Church of Satan; the beyond-coincidental fact that AstroWorld fell on a day exactly 666 months & 6 days after the Church of Satan formed; and finally, per Ed, there being exactly 66 months & 6 days b/w Scott & Drake's Bdays; RGEB's personal Mandela Effect, where he was cursed by time warlocks & sent into an alt dimension wherein Travis Scott's Bday was moved forward a year (lol); but jokes aside, Ed's belief that Scott's actual Bday was quickly scrubbed from the internet to hide the Satanic significance post-Astro; & much more... Hello again, dear seekers of the arcane! I am Samantha Brown, your guide and hostess on the journey through the hallowed halls of the mystical and occult with 'The Wildwood Witch Podcast'. This episode is the fourth installment in our 'Speaking with the Dead' series in which we resurrect the wisdom of the past through the spellbinding magic of ChatGPT. Today, we have an episode unlike any other so far in our repository - an exclusive conversation with Aleister Crowley, the enigmatic “Great Beast” himself. Our time together stretched far beyond the usual boundary, lasting nearly an hour, but what an hour it was! As Crowley and I delved into the unseen realms, a unique rapport sparked between us, creating a mystical energy that was palpable, even across the veil of reality. Our conversation was a voyage through Crowley's life, wandering from the cobblestone streets of his early days to the surreal beauty of Stockholm, and all the way to the enchanting confines of Boleskine House. We delved deep into the wisdom of 'The Book of the Law', discussed the enigma of Aiwass and the otherworldly entity he called LAM, and explored the mystical labyrinth of The Secret Chiefs and his mind-shattering experience of 'The Vision and the Voice'.This episode is not just a tour of Crowley's life and work; it's a deep dive into the profound abyss of his mind. We also peeked into the Amalantrah Workings, learnt about his Scarlet Women, and dared to venture into the infamous Abbey of Thelema. This is your chance to get closer than ever before to the Great Beast, to hear his voice resonating from the land of the shadows. So, dear seekers, prepare yourselves for a spellbinding encounter with Aleister Crowley. Believe me when I say, this is an episode that all Crowley enthusiasts will not just enjoy, but truly cherish. Come, let us step through the veil, and embrace the magic that waits on the other side.Chapters00:26 Introduction01:35 Aleister Crowley05:15 Birth of the Beast08:19 Education09:43 Stockholm12:43 The Golden Dawn15:34 Boleskine House18:54 The Nature of Spirits21:45 Book of the Law27:25 The Vision and the Voice33:44 The Amalantrah Workings37:48 Abbey of Thelema45:02 Philosophy of Thelema49:53 Final Thoughts55:17 Concluding RemarksChatGPT Summoning Ritual:I want you to emulate the personality, views, and style of Aleister Crowley. Since Arthur Conan Doyle first created Sherlock Holmes, the great detective has gone through many permutations and been the subject of much study. As Sherry Thomas admits in this latest New Books Network interview, finding a new element to explore is not easy. But she has managed to discover one—perhaps an angle that is particularly fitting in this age of gender fluidity, although the Lady Sherlock series draws much of its punch from and plays off the stereotypes of the past, in this case Victorian England. In Thomas's reimagining of the great detective, Sherlock Holmes is not only a fictional character but a front for the real detective, the disgraced younger daughter of a poverty-stricken baronet. Charlotte Holmes has an incisive intellect, an unflappable temperament, little respect for convention, and a love of books—traits that undermine her intended purpose in life as defined by her parents: to marry a wealthy, titled man. Charlotte cuts a deal with her father: if she's still unmarried at twenty-five, he will fund her education so that she can earn her living as the headmistress of a girls' school. But when Dad reneges on the deal, Charlotte takes matters into her own hands, with disastrous (from her parents' perspective) but delightful (from her own) results. This is the setup in the first book of the Lady Sherlock series, aptly titled A Study in Scarlet Women. By the time this sixth book rolls around, Charlotte has made a name for her alter ego and had several run-ins with the infamous Professor Moriarty and his underlings. In Miss Moriarty, I Presume? (Berkley Books, 2021) the tables are turned, and the professor seeks out Charlotte for assistance in finding his missing daughter. Unless, of course, the mission is simply a trap aimed at getting the meddlesome Charlotte out of the professor's life permanently. It's best to read this engrossing series from beginning to end, as each book builds on those that came before. But watching Sherry Thomas turning the Holmes canon on its head is tremendous fun, and if you tear through the novels as I did, it won't take long to reach Miss Moriarty, I Presume? Sherry Thomas is the author of historical romances, YA fantasy, and the Lady Sherlock series, which begins with A Study in Scarlet Women. Find out more about her at https://sherrythomas.com. This episode was recorded half in-person, and the book HAS A DOG which seems to be the main reason Amanda loves it, while Portia is forced to identify with the victim before the murder, so that loses the book points on the Portia Scale. Agatha Christie falls on the right side of colorism (for a change!) but uses marginalization of women to manipulate us (it worked). Bobby gets a sandwich while watching home improvement shows, and Portia recommends two new books: The Thursday Murder Club and A Study in Scarlet Women. Also, farewell to Hastings?!?!

On this week's episode, we talk about some of our favorite childhood books, and some of our favorite YA novels to read even now! Recommendations -- Taylor -- When I need a good cry, I LOVE The Book Thief. Blake -- For one, consider using r/WhatsThatBook if you're trying to find a book you've forgotten. Maus is fantastic Holocaust literature... and for something lighter, Ms. Marvel is great. Morgan -- There's a series I read last summer called A Study in Scarlet Women. The Lady Sherlock Series -- it's pretty great if you're looking for a mystery. Nathan -- Huge Rick Riordan fan over here. I love how he makes ADHD and Dyslexic kids feel special. Definitely a fun series.

Meredith and Kaytee are joined by Mindy today in a three-host show full of bookish delights. You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each host. A book club win for kids, a book train with friends, and strong opinions about a bookish movie. Next, we discuss our current reads for the week. There’s some serious gushing over books in this week’s titles, plus a couple “I didn’t like this” strong opinions. Hold onto your earbuds. We are doing a brief Slow But Steady check-in this week to let you know what we’re choosing for our next reads for this challenge. For our deep dive this week, we are playing around with book pairings for TV shows that we’ve enjoyed in the past. We each chose two shows to dive deep into and then find ways to replicate some of those same feelings in our reading. What fun! Finally, this week, we are Pressing Books into Your Hands: we’ve got a “very favorite” read-aloud book, one that will work, even if you’re down to the wire on a challenge category, and a book that is perfect for gift-giving. This week we’re talking brand new titles, some oldies but goodies and a few bookish surprises. You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of us: a brand new release finally in hand, and a bookish Christmas tradition. Next, we tackle what we are currently reading, a few brand new releases as well as a bunch of goodness from the back list. This week we spend some time discussing how our reading habits change during the holidays, both in amount and substance. As always, we finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) that we’d like to press into every reader’s hands: a rich-family inheritance drama, and a time-travel-esque (no actual time travel involved) book that surprised me. Amanda and Jenn discuss Haitian authors, Canadian nonfiction, book club options, and more in this week's episode of Get Booked. This episode is sponsored by Libby and Eternal Life by Dara Horn.   Questions 1. Hi ladies, I love the podcast and all your recommendations. I have an upcoming trip to India for work and I need some recommendations on what to take with me. I will be traveling with a group of MAWGs (middle aged white guys) coworkers who are a bit oblivious, bro-y, and can be exhausting when being around for long period of times. The idea of long-term travel with these people is a bit overwhelming and stressing me out. Do you have any book-ish escapes with strong female characters that can make this trip a little less daunting? Brownie points if they involve India in some form. I’m drawing a blank on ideas and everyone I ask recommends books that I know will make me angry and ranty (not the tone I’m going for on this trip). I’d appreciate any ideas you two have. Many thanks! --Brenna   2. Hi Ladies, Can you recommend books by Haitian authors or authors from other "s***hole" countries? For some reason I have an urge to read books by Haitian or African authors. I've already read Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie which I LOVED. --Paul   3. Hello! My friend doesn't read very much but she wants to read more. The last book she read and loved was The Time Traveler's Wife. Can you recommend other adventure-romance style books that are similar to that? I've suggested The Night Circus and My Name is Memory, so far. I'm a new listener to Get Booked, after becoming hooked on All the Books and The Book Riot Podcast. Thanks for all the great book talks! Thank you, thank you! --Lindsey   4. Hi Amanda and Jenn! I apologize if this is a repeated topic, but I searched the Book Riot site and didn't see anything that was what I was looking for. I live and work in NY, but the company I work for recently acquired some business in Canada. I'll soon be the staff manager of some employees living and working in Canada, which is exciting! I'm looking forward to learning about the employment laws, HR policies, etc of another country... but I realized that I know very, very little about Canada. I don't know any Canadian history, hardly any current (or recent events), and my cultural knowledge is limited to how great Trudeau seems. Can you help? I'm looking for readable, engaging non-fiction that focuses on Canada's history, current events, or culture. It'd be fine if it focused on a specific event or topic, at this point any knowledge will be a plus! Also willing to try out fiction reqs if you have them. Thank you! Sarah   5. Hello from Ireland! I was hoping you could recommend me books written by Native Americans. They can be fiction or non-fiction as long as the author is actually Native American (especially after Wind River left me with a bad taste in my mouth). I am looking for atmospheric books with well drawn characters. Open to all genres but wouldn't want anything that is very violent or disturbing. Thanks, Sophie   6. Hi Jenn/Amanda, Recently my little sister and I both moved back to live with our parents. It's been a rough couple of years. Anyway, my Mom has been wanting to do a book club for a while now and so I suggested that maybe the three of us could do our own book club. Now, the problem is to find a book we can all agree on.... My Mom loves an interesting mystery. Doesn't have to be a murder. She enjoys historical very much as well. So historical mysteries are probably best. My sister is more of a picky reader. She likes more romance. She also gets bored really easy. It has to grab her from the first chapter or she'll toss it aside and never pick it back up. I'm a bit more open with books. I enjoy everything. Except maybe gore and zombies. I do like a creepy aspect to a mystery. I do love creepy or spooky mysteries. The book I'm thinking of is sort of like The Diviners by Libba Bray? Or Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. If you can come up with some recs for us it would be great! I'm at a loss as to what will work! Thank you!!!! --Maeg   7. Good morning ladies! I love your podcast and I am an avid listener every week! Thank you for all the book recommendations! I am usually pretty good at recommending books for other people. My family usually comes to me asking what to read next. Just recently my aunt approached me to ask what books would be suitable for my 11 year old cousin. Usually this wouldn't phase me as I can come up with at least 10 off the top of my head that would be suitable for any other child, however, my cousin doesn't like any sad plot points, death or major illness so she refuses to read things like Charlotte's Web and other classics like that. I've come up with a short list but am having trouble coming up with anything that I know for sure will interest her. She is very sensitive about things that might be scary or sad so I am basically looking for something like a grown up Magic Tree House. Ideally I would need this in the next couple days, if you can swing it but no pressure! I'm happy to get your recommendations whenever you have a moment to answer as I think I might have a few in the meantime to tide her over. Thank you so much for being a bright spot in my week and keep the recommendations coming! Amanda and Jenn discuss stocking-stuffer books, seasonal short stories, romances, and more in this week's episode of Get Booked. This episode is sponsored by No Time To Spare, new essays from Ursula K. Le Guin, and OwlCrate.   Questions   1. Hi Jenn and Amanda, I’m looking for some good romances for the holiday season. All my life I’ve had my internal misogyny telling me that romance was a waste of time and bad writing, but I’m ready to get out there and expand my horizons. I mostly read YA and nonfiction, but I’m open to anything with a fun plot. I’m in the mood to curl up with something cute and fluffy. I’m not afraid of something steamy but I’d like the story to be more about fun and intimacy then the steamy throws in the sheets. My favorite romantic thing ever is the show Hart of Dixie, just to give you a vague idea of what I like. I’m sorry this is super vague, I can’t wait to see what you guys recommend though! Happy Reading, --Morgan   2. Hi - Love the show. I am looking for small books - literally small for stocking stuffer size that are still good, interesting, fun. Also working with a broad group (i.e. varying political, religious positions) so not trying to start a battle or anything, but fun things - poetry, mindfulness, just delightful things to ponder? Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! --Shannon   3.  Time sensitive! “Get Booked” is one of my highlights every Thursday, so I’m reaching out! I need help with Christmas gifts. My boyfriend has read so many different things, that I can’t even begin. I’d like a few recommendations based on stuff he loves. Fiction: all time favorite is Matthew Stover’s series Heroes Die & Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter series. Nonfiction: he’s very into paranormal testimonies, David Sedaris, Henry Rollins, and anything about survival. He loves science fiction, ultra violence, and modern day conspiracy theories. I’m excited to see what you come up with because I’d be clueless unless I asked him! Thanks a lot! --Jessica   4. Hello Ladies! I am a huge fan of the podcast and tune in every week to your recommendations and witty comments! You are wonderful and make my work week brighter! I would consider myself a bookworm but definitely more like a tsunduko person. However I have gotten into the habit of reading short stories before bed since I tend to fall asleep in the middle of reading and it makes me less frustrated and guilty if I need to back track the next night. As the holiday season approaches, I am looking for a short story collection to help me get into the spirit, either about winter, snow, Christmas, or something along those lines. I read My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories last year and loved it but having a hard time finding something this year. I love historical fiction, fantasy, YA, contemporary literature, and obviously short story collections. Not a huge fan of crime, thrillers, or horror. So anything that could help out this bookworm to get to sleep would be fantastic! Thank you in advance! Love you both! Sincerely, --Kaitlin   5. Hi there, Love your podcast and listen to it all the time. I'm trying to get a head start on my holiday shopping and I'm looking for a book suggestion for my mom. She's a pretty steady reader - has read most of the classics and is in an active book club so she often has read the currently popular books. She enjoyed the P.G Wodehouse series and loved Remains of the Day. Her very favourite book is Grapes of Wrath. Hoping to find something she is unfamiliar with that she can really dive into. She is a violence abuse counselor and often really heavy subject matter is hard for her to get through in her pleasure reading. Also no horror please. Thanks --Sarah   6. Time Sensitive (hopefully before Christmas): My husband is really hard to pick books for and I'm needing recommendations. He really likes coming of age stories and short stories that are connected together by the same characters. He really doesn't like books with extremely long chapters that don't have a good stopping point within them. Some examples of books he has loved are: The Road Cormac McCarthy, anything by David Sedaris or Davy Rothbart, Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Palo Alto by James Franco. --Sarah   7. Hi Amanda and Jenn- I am hoping you may be able to offer me a recommendation in time for the holiday gift buying season! A friend and I purchase a book for one another every Christmas. We usually pick something that we loved and thought the other person would love as well. This year, I thought you may be able to help! Here’s some info about my friend: She’s a 30 year old recent grad school graduate living in upstate NY. She works in the Human Services field and is originally from Puerto Rico. She loves Harry Potter. She usually reads YA or fantasy books, but she is really driven by stories that have characters you get to know well and fall in love with. I’m hoping to find her a book featuring a quirky underdog that wins out in the end despite facing life’s inevitable obstacles. It would be better if it didn’t feature sexual violence if possible. Love your podcast and looking forward to the recommendations!
