French DJ and producer Myd channels club energy into his new work. Myd’s experimental nature led him to lock himself in his studio for a week without access to the outside. This also meant no phone or social media while he live streamed his process (without breaks); fans watched him work, eat, and sleep. That’s how “Song For You” found its pounding and uplifting house beat. From there the track was kissed by samples, a funk filtered bass line, and creamy vocals by Myd.

Episode #186: Song For You. (Song starts at 3:38) This is a love song. Just words and a simple tune. It can be a powerful combination. Written in 2000, song #475 sums up the grateful feeling I'd found by deciding to commit to my girlfriend who became my wife. Lucky me. It's been an incredibly enjoyable process - our relationship - and rediscovering songs over these last 180 odd weeks. I let the song lead the way for each episode and endeavour to try and keep out of the way of the emerging story. I like to walk in nature (on this episode, there's a brief recording of me talking as I go out on twilight walk). I like to see detail. And conversely, the big picture, too. Just nothing in particular. I let the scene just wash over me -and through me, somehow. And that is the feeling that I try to take with me into the studio. I keep my mind as clear as possible and away I go, fingers on the keys, composing. I honestly can't remember the last time I played and sang ‘Song For You'. There's something about recording the take of me rediscovering the song that seems to work for these episodes. I'm big on trying to catch feeling and a bit of magic, in the studio (instead of looking try an catch the perfect take, where you risk losing the feeling and story). It's all about the story - both the songs and the podcast episode. That's what makes it interesting and not just some dry sort of dialogue about how I compose. I'm very pleased I've found this song again, I must record it sometime. It's a romantic honest sort of a ballad. There's a line in the song…cos you call me home with your warm warm heart and like a gentle wind you set me free. That suits me. You need a certain sort of freedom to be a songwriter. And you need to feel supported. It sure helps. Because it's huge commitment, being on this creative path. All the ups and downs that it entails…ditto with a relationship - all of those things are crucial: Freedom, support, commitment. Perhaps that helps illustrate how writing song feels like I'm writing with something outside/within myself. The muse.. I wrote the words first. After I'd written 4 verses, and read back through them, I realised this would be a simple love song. That's when I came up with the line with my words and a simple tune, which became the hook. I'm pleased with the way the music has come up for this song - it's a good fit with the lyrics.. Between a nice couple of bookends start and finish, there's a pleasant melody and chords that roll along, with just enough interesting changes to catch the ear and keep it interesting. It flows along nicely. It's incredibly good for you to compose, you use so many different parts of brain. I don't just knock out a song for the heck of it, I'm a firm believer that any song, any style of art that is worthwhile has to start with feeling. Which this song did… I hope you enjoy this gentle episode. It's an absolute pleasure to be presenting a song and a chat each week. I include an anecdote about one of the first time we ventured into the true outback of Victoria, Australia - and we sure found it… Here's my blog www.petepascoe.wordpress.com and here's my bandcamp www.petepascoe.bandcamp.com

Coaches will often tell me they struggle to create engagement with their audience. Does that sound familiar? People don't opt in for your lead magnet. Nobody is emailing you with questions. You aren't getting any discovery calls with clients. Does it sometimes feel like you are talking to yourself with nobody on the other end of the line? MORE DIFFICULT On this episode, I want to give you 7 steps to generate more engagement with your audience. I also want to give you 75 Ways to Drive Engagement. It is a free download at http://www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/engage. You might be making the problem more difficult than it needs to be? The solution is easy to understand, yet difficult to execute properly. Through all of my research and years of experience in both radio and podcasting, I've discovered a few key steps to create interaction. We are going to cover 7 steps to create more listener engagement. Some of these steps may sound a little too simplistic. Just remember … don't make it harder than it needs to be. Step back and ask yourself if you are truly executing on each step to the fullest. 1. ASK THEM TO ENGAGE When Oscar came to me for coaching, he had a great podcast. But, he was struggling to get any clients from the show. His podcast is called "Deep Listening – Impact Beyond Words". Oscar helps leaders be better listeners. As I listened to his episodes, it occurred to me that Oscar did a great job interviewing his guests and make them look amazing. However, he never explained what he did or made an invitation for listeners to work with him. We restructured his podcast, and he now uses it to introduce prospective clients to his services and lead them to hiring his consultancy. If you're not getting engagement, you may not be making enough invitations. How do you expect your listeners to know you want them to be part of your show or work with you if you don't ask? Be sure to make your request specific. Tell your listener exactly what you want her to do. If you want engagement, you need to ask for it. 2. MAKE IT EASY TO ENGAGE Your listeners don't want to jump through a lot of hoops to create engagement. I was working with a client earlier this week. He helps leaders and organizations thrive by facing their challenges. His podcast is built around his book with the same content. On his podcast, he would suggest people go to Amazon and search for his book. Unfortunately, there are about six other books with a similar title. If you made a subtle change to the title, you end up with the wrong book. If you have ever searched Amazon for anything, you know how challenging it can be. We added a redirect with his website that takes people straight to the book. Rather than searching for it, people could go straight to a URL and get the book. One step and super easy. When you ask your listeners to connect with you, you might be using social media, your website, e-mail, voicemail, or a number of other methods. Simplify it. Create one contact page on your website containing the info to avoid the need for a laundry list during your show. Then, always provide that one contact source. You can see my contact page at https://podcasttalentcoach.com/contact/. NO CHOICE By using that one page, you also prevent your listener from getting caught in the decision paradox. If a listener is given the choice between multiple options, they don't want to be wrong. So, they make no decision to avoid making a mistake. Only give them one option. Also, make your questions specific, so they don't have to think. Give your listener a question to answer or specific piece of information to provide. My client I just referenced would end his show by telling his listeners to email him if they have any questions. We restructured that to ask a specific question around the topic of the episode. If he was talking about motivating a team, he would invite listeners to reach out with their motivation struggles. This is much more specific. If your listener isn't forced to be creative and "work" to create content for your show, you will have more success creating engagement. 3. BE A STORYTELLER FOR SUCCESS As you create your podcast, become a great storyteller. Great storytellers create fans. One of my favorite podcasts to learn the art of storytelling is Speak Up Storytelling with Matthew Dicks. Matthew is an internation bestselling author. He has been published in many magazines. But best of all, he is a 56-time Moth StorySLAM champion and 9-time GrandSLAM champion. Matthew is hilarious. And his stories are amazing. You can learn a lot about storytelling by listening to his podcast. https://matthewdicks.com/podcasts/ Your podcast cannot survive on information alone. Artificial Intelligence has the information market cornered. You need to separate yourself by using your story and personality. That's how you become unique. Interest in your story never remains constant. Your information can only become entertainment when interest is rising. If interest is falling, the show is becoming boring and is no longer entertainment. A great story continues to develop the plot and raise the interest. Have you ever sat through a long, monotonous story that never seems to end? You stare and wonder if the speaker actually has a point to this monologue. You pray for your cell phone to ring and save you. That scenario is exactly what you want to avoid with your podcast. Practice becoming a great storyteller. Stories help define your character and personality. You should always be yourself. It is difficult to play a character consistently and tell great stories. Your true feelings and identity will always be revealed in the stories you tell. If you are successful hiding your true self, you simply are not telling great stories. Vivid details and interesting points that stir emotions in your listeners can only come from your true feelings. Reveal your true character. Storytellers create raving fans. 4. FOCUS ON HELPING OTHERS Zig Ziglar had many great quotes. One of my favorites is, "You can have anything you want in life just as long as you help enough other people get what they want." How true that is. As you turn your information into engaging entertainment with your podcast, keep in mind that helping people is part of the foundation of a strong relationship. If you take, take, take, your relationship won't last long. If you are there to give and help, you will develop friends for life. Ziglar is a great example of helping people. His speeches always offered great tips to improve your life, sales or attitude. He also had great books, CDs and other products he sold. I'm currently reading "Secrets to Closing the Sale". I had the great fortune of seeing him live before he passed away. His recordings fill my library. He has so much good stuff. However, most of Zig's time was spent on helping others. There is a lot of free Ziglar information available. He would always help others and eventually sales would come his way. Get what you want out of life. Focus on helping others. 5. MAKE IT ABOUT THEM If you want people to engage, there has to be something in it for them. Make them care. Have you ever had a conversation where the other person only talks about themselves? We had a competitor in radio. He attended a lot of the same events we did. Everytime we would run into him, he would always steer the conversation to him. He was the kind of guy that couldn't read a room to save his life. One time we were backstage to meet an artist. There were about 10 of us in the room waiting for the band to come in. We were all standing around making small talk. Finally, the band came in and started their introductions with him. Big handshake and hug as if they were best friends. The band makes their way around the circle and finally get to us. Now, my wife and I had known these guys for years – well over a decade. They know our kids, we know their kids. We were there when one of them started dating his wife, who we knew her before he did. We really go way back. He asks us about our kids. We mention that the last one just graduated high school. He says he can't believe it. It was just yesterday they were this high. You know how time flies. My wife says, ?Yeah, you've seen them grow up. It's crazy. And you're expecting your third child." A big smile comes over his face. Just then, the competitor guy jumps in. "Yeah, we go way back to the club days, remember that? Remember when you played Bob's Country Bunker?" Or whatever the club was. CELEBRATE OTHERS Here was a great time to celebrate this artist and a huge moment in his life of expecting another child. In fact, it wasn't really general knowledge. He was a bit surprised that we knew. My wife has just chatted with his wife about it on Facebook. So instead of making the moment about the guest of honor, radio guy jumps in and makes it all about him. People don't want to hear about you. They want to hear about themselves. Here is a great video about making your message about your audience. This is from BJ Bueno, author of "The Power of Cult Branding". https://cultbranding.com/ceo/mirrors-vs-bullhorns/ This shows the great power of focusing on your listeners and clients rather than focusing on you. 6. TEASE AND SET UP THE NEXT EPISODE Prepare your audience to participate. Let them know the topic for next week. Then, ask them if they have a question about that particular topic. If you have a guest, ask if there is a question they would like you to ask. Michael Hyatt does a great job at this on his podcast. I had a morning show team that would say, "We are interviewing Blake Shelton tomorrow. If you have a question you'd like us to ask him, send it to us." This would create great engagement with the audience. It promoted the interview on the next show. But more importantly, it got the listener invested in the interview. They were part of it. Even if you don't use the question, you still create engagement. You can't use every question. But you can interact with every email. 7. THANK YOUR AUDIENCE Thanks for listening. I appreciate the time and help you give me every week. It is such an easy way to strengthen your relationship with your audience. Your listeners have given you something they can never get back. That is their time. Show your appreciation. A simple thank you will go a long way with your listener. If they know you are honestly grateful for giving you their time, the chance they will listen again goes way up. It must be honest and authentic. You can't thank them like gas station attendant who will never see you again. You must deliver your thanks from the heart. It should be the kind of thank you that you would give a stranger who stopped to help when you ran out of gas. I once saw Michael Buble in concert. Toward the end of his show before his last number, he stopped and addressed the audience. He told us he knows how hard we work for our money. And times are tough. He gets that. Michael then says he couldn't possibly thank us enough for spending some of that hard-earned money to see his show and support his family. His wife and kids at home appreciate it. He appreciates it. And he can't wait to come back and do it all again. He then rolls into "Song For You", which he sings partially acapella. If you have never experienced it, check it out on YouTube. It is amazing. https://youtu.be/uiUz36uWmy0 The most powerful part is Michael's authentic gratitude to his audience. Your listener is your lifeblood. Without your listener you have no show. She has many, many choices when allocating her time. Let her know you appreciate her for spending her time with you. THANKS … And thank you for stopping by. Luke Evans has a new Album out A Song For You a TV special , a new movie and is he going to be James BondJames Watt in conversation with this Welsh Hollywood Superstar!
Luke Evans is closing out 2022 with not one, not two, but three big projects. "All avenues are being covered this year,” Evans told Newsweek's H. Alan Scott. First, there was his nearly unrecognizable turn as the Coachman in Disney's live-action remake ‘Pinocchio' back in September. Next, he plays a brother on a mission to save his kidnapped sister in ‘Echo 3' on Apple TV+ (November 23). "It's a really sweeping story." And finally, he'll voice Ebenezer Scrooge in the animated musical ‘Scrooge: A Christmas Carol' (December 2). "I've got an album coming out, too" [A Song For You, November 4]. OK, make that four big projects. "For me, it's a joy to be able to be given those platforms to present my abilities. I relish every time I get a chance to do something different. I'm in this business to learn." Despite his movie-star good looks, Evans is eager to be challenged, and his diverse roles in 2022 show that. "I am playing leading men in many things coming up, but I'm not scared of not taking that role and doing something that will challenge me and thrill the audience as well."Listen to our full conversation on the Parting Shot with H. His own fantasies, stories and dreams have until now been eclipsed by these roles. With Songs For You, Barnes is baring his soul through his music for the first time; hopeful, joyful, passionate, nostalgic, vulnerable and loving. The lyrics to most of the songs, he explains, came from “poetry written for a loved one or just for myself, a long-forgotten phrase I jotted down in a notebook years ago, inspired by a photograph, a moment, a quotation, or in the case of one song, a story I read about a female pirate!”After years of being directed, written for and edited in movies, this is his moment to shine the light on the five songs on Songs For You, lovingly crafted at his piano at home and presented unedited and straight from the heart.Barnes shared, “Songs For You comes from one of my favorite records, ‘A Song For You' by Leon Russell (but the Donny Hathaway version, of course), from wanting the songs to speak intimately to anyone who listens to them, and because if a song is written for you, you know who you are.”Ben Barnes has starred in films, TV shows and theater productions spanning the last 20 years: Movies have included, The Chronicles of Narnia franchise (Disney), Seventh Son (Universal), Dorian Gray, Easy Virtue and musical films Killing Bono and Jackie & Ryan. Leon played the piano, among other things. In the 60's, he was a part of the legendary set of studio musicians, known as the Wrecking Crew. Performing with a who's who, including The Concert for Bangladesh with George Harrison and also along with others in the likes of Bob Dylan, Badfinger, and many more. Other musicians started finding his music and recording them and making hits with his songs. Like Delta Lady, from Joe Cocker. The song I only really started to dig when watching him recorded live in the 70's, in the documentary "A Poem is a Naked Person". The documentary was only released in 2015 at South by. For 40 years, the film went unreleased. It features Leon live and onstage in his heyday. And that's where I really got to see the man shine as a live performer. The rest of them film is Leon bouncing around Oklahoma, his recording studio, The Church Studio in Tulsa recording country and western album "Hank Wilson's Back Vol 1" under the moniker of Hank Wilson. He would end up releasing 4 volumes over his career under the alias. The documentary also showed Leon building a house and hiring a young artist, Jim Franklin, to paint his pool with his own psychedelic art, before it is filled with water. Jim Franklin would become known for his posters, around the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin and featuring Armadillos. Now there stands a full life sized bronze statue of Leon Russell in his signature top hat, and with his beard and longhair, it is located outside The Church Studio, commissioned by non-other than Jim Franklin. His most well-known song would most likely be "A Song for You" off of his first album on his own Shelter Records, a record company that he started, the album was release in 1970. Many artists have recorded it over the years. Willie did a version in 1973 with just him and Trigger. The song closed out the "Shotgun Willie" album, the first to feature his guitar Trigger. But one of my favorite versions is from Ray Charles. He recorded it in 1993, but the live version he did that same year for Willie's 60th Birthday Party is my favorite. There is another version out that for another Willie special, featuring him along with both Ray Charles and Leon Russell. But now let's hear the man do it how he does it on his piano, here is "A Song For You" with the lines "I love you in a place where there's no space or time", but these are the words on his own gravestone, his own lyrics from the song: "And When My Life is Over, Remember When We Were Together, we were alone and I was singing this song for you": The last song on the "Shotgun Willie" album, the first album to feature Trigger. Trigger would again appear on Willie's next album "Red Headed Stranger" and then again for all the rest of his albums from that point on. I was lucky enough to see Leon many times. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tiny-curations/message
In 2021, Merry Clayton returned with a vengeance. In her solo first album in 27, years the singer once again poured her heart out on record. Beautiful Scars bears the mark of a musician who has suffered tremendous loss, but remains defiantly joyous and hopeful. Her voice remains confident and unmistakable, singing a title track that references, in part, a 2014 car crash that result in the loss of both of her legs. It also marks a post-humous return for her husband, Curtis Amy, whose sax part from her original recording of “A Song For You” 50 years prior reemerges on a rerecording. As she notes, our interview was recorded on what would have been his 92nd birthday. It was Amy who answered a phone call in the middle of the night that found Clayton recording what may be her best-known performance, dueting alongside Mick Jagger on the Stones classic, “Gimme Shelter.” But that's just one moment in a 58-year singing career that's among popular music's most legendary.

Today, Merry Clayton — the legendary singer who has made indelible contributions to music by Ray Charles, The Rolling Stones, Carole King and so many more — shares “Touch The Hem Of His Garment,” a stirring version of the timeless Sam Cooke-penned song from her forthcoming album Beautiful Scars out April 9th on Motown Gospel. With vocal arrangements by Terry Young, percussion by Paulinho da Costa and saxophone by Gerald Albright, “Touch The Hem Of His Garment” is a joyous track emblematic of Beautiful Scars' mission: To celebrate God's grace and find love and joy in the face of hardship and tragedy. “If I can just touch the hem of your garment,” Merry sings, ever faithful in God's redemptive power, “I know I will be made whole right now.” The lessons of perseverance and resilience found on Beautiful Scars are hard-fought. In 2014, mere months after the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom in which Merry stars won an Oscar - a tragic car accident hospitalized her for five months. The accident claimed both of her legs and required years of diligent rehabilitation. But Merry found strength in her own voice — which remained as powerful as ever — and, recalling her upbringing in her father's New Orleans parish, the healing themes of Gospel music. Co-produced by lifelong friend, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Lou Adler, and legendary Gospel vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter Terry Young, Beautiful Scars finds Merry emboldened by His Word, mercy and eternal love — it's the most heartening and human record she has ever made. Recorded at Henson Studios (formerly the famed A&M Studios where many of Merry's most historic sessions took place) in Hollywood, Beautiful Scars features original songs by Terry Young, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Diane Warren as well as classic covers. Alongside “Touch The Hem Of His Garment,” those include Leon Russell's “A Song For You,” a reprisal of a track Merry sang on her 1971 album that incorporates a vintage solo recording by her late husband, legendary saxophonist Curtis Amy, who passed away in 2020. Merry concludes the album on a hopeful note with “Ooh Child Medley,” a moving finale featuring vocal accompaniment from her granddaughter Kyliyah. Merry is ready to grace the world with her talents once again in a project flowing with emotion, triumph and tenacity. A document of resilience, joy, and most importantly faith, Beautiful Scars has Merry back doing what God put her on earth to do: sharing her revelatory voice with the world.

In Episode 6 we take a look at the incredible life journey of the enchanting, mystical and courageous Stevie Nicks. From her early days raised in Pheonix, Arizona as she was taken under the wing of her beloved grandfather and his musical passion. Her first encounter with Lindsay Buckingham before performing alongside each other in the Fritz Rabyne Memorial Band and as a duo named Buckingham Nicks. Stevie would slave away working around 3 jobs at once before the pair were scouted by Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac. From there Stevie would prove all the doubters wrong with her incredible live performances, unique but strong vocals and her heartfelt songwriting ability that cast a spell on fans from all over the world. Despite losing her way at times she would become an inspiring female figure as she attempted to make it in a man's world, she battled relationship drama's, affairs, scandals and drug addiction, striking out solo and would eventually earn her rightful place as the only woman in history to make the Rock N Roll hall of fame twice, opening the door for woman like her to follow in her footsteps. Sit back and enjoy as this is one hell of an inspiring and incredible story. We take a look at the meaning behind a large number of Stevie's most memorable songs and ones you may not know too much about including Dreams, Landslide, Stand Back, Sara, Rhiannon, Gypsy, Edge of Seventeen, Leather and Lace, Has Anyone Ever Written a Song For You, Gold Dust Woman, Silver Springs and many more. On November 8, 2016 many people worldwide realized their worst nightmare. Donald J. Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States of America. In the three weeks that have passed, we've seen a plethora of responses to the election results, from fear and loathing to euphoric revelry. Unfortunately, most of these reactions are emotional and impetuous, not strategic or logically thought out. Understandable, but only acceptable for a short time. Time to shake it off people. On this episode Bliss and "Counter Intelligent" founder True Asiatic Allah call out Liberals and Conservatives on the the waste of time antics that keep both sides distracted from the real agents that will threaten the social and economic balance in the upcoming Trump years. The times are a-changing folks. Time to get ready. Time for some action. The Wine: Teavine~~ Green tea, white wine and honey infusion Note: The song "A Song For You" which was made famous by Donnie Hathaway and written by Leon Russell.
We head down under to listen to Ryan’s favorite Australian indie pop songs. Jenna mixes herself a cocktail called the Australian Virgin (we’re looking at you, 1997 era Ben Lee). Our friend Fran teaches us some Aussie slang as we listen to jangly songs by The Go-Betweens, The Lucksmiths, The Cannanes, The Goon Sax, Dick Diver and Twerps. Not bad for a nation colonized by criminals. Hide your babies! Songs featured in this episode: The Go-Betweens "Going Blind" Ben Lee "Song For You" The Lucksmiths "Guess How Much I Love You" The Cannanes "Bumper" The Goon Sax "Up to Anything" Dick Diver "Tearing the Posters Down" Twerps "Back to You" [Please support these artists — buy their music!] http://www.go-betweens.net http://ben-lee.com/ https://thelucksmiths.bandcamp.com https://thecannanes.bandcamp.com http://chaptermusic.com https://www.mergerecords.com
Patrice started her production company, Skinny Llama Productions, in 2008 with her first CD, A Song For You, which we played on a Nadia Sahari Show last year. She also produces CDs from Live Recording Sessions at The Jackson Ranch, her events center in the heart of San Antonio. Other than music, her company also produces films, such as the Papacho Remedies Documentaries and The Mexico Jazz Tour: The Movie, and publishes books. The focus of this interview is to discuss one of those books. Papacho Remedies: Incan Healing Secrets. (Always underline book titles Nadia) Patrice's company not only published the book, but she is co-author, editor, and photographer. She spent 2 years with Dr. Canales in Peru doing research for the book.“I met Dr. Canales in Peru while on a personal vacation to Machu Picchu. At the time I was suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis. His series of lectures kindled an interest in the Incan healing arena. So, I pursued and followed the doctor to his clinic in Arequipa. He stated he could “cure” diseases that plague the world for which medical doctors using traditional medicine cannot cure such as the arthritis I suffered from. He gave me a program to follow for 7 months…eat 7 pecans every morning along with 3 cups of pinapple extract (no pre-processed juice), take 1 teaspoon of Harina de Coca before each meal; stop eating wheat, dairy, meat, coffee, sodas, chocolate, sweets, etc. Eat lots of quinoa and fresh greens.
