Benjamin Zephaniah's urgent, imperative “To Michael Menson” was written when he was a poet in residence at a human rights barrister in England. His poem resonates with his repeated calls for justice for a murdered Black musician — not a justice that is gullible, impotent, or hopeless but one that is clear-eyed, collaborative, and mighty.Benjamin Zephaniah was born and raised in Birmingham, England. He is the author of several collections of poetry, including City Psalms, Propa Propaganda, and Too Black, Too Strong. In 2000, he was poet in residence for the chambers of human rights barrister Michael Mansfield, where he worked on numerous cases, including the murder of Stephen Lawrence. Zephaniah appeared on the TV show Peaky Blinders and is also known for his poetry books for children.Find the transcript for this show at onbeing.org.We're pleased to offer Benjamin Zephaniah's poem and invite you to subscribe to Pádraig's weekly Poetry Unbound Substack newsletter, read the Poetry Unbound book, or listen to past episodes of the podcast. This podcast talks about 5 Things to Expect When You're TOO Strong
Episode 227: Too Strong for GodAre we too strong for our own good? This thought-provoking message challenges our desire for constant victory and strength, reminding us that God sometimes allows weakness in our lives for a greater purpose. The story of King Uzziah in 2 Chronicles 26 serves as a powerful warning about the dangers of pride that can come with uninterrupted success. As long as Uzziah sought the Lord, he prospered, but when he became strong, he grew proud and fell. This narrative invites us to examine our own hearts: Are we relying on our own strength or on God's grace? It's a call to cultivate humility and maintain a posture of dependence on God, even in our moments of triumph. We're encouraged to see our weaknesses not as obstacles, but as opportunities for God's power to be perfected in us.

We're starting to get close to the finishing line on another season of The Ultimate Catalogue Clash. We're covering the heaviest song in the catalogue as well as one of the most jarringly different songs you'll find on a Dire Straits record! Can Side B live up to the monster hits on Side A? Will Kev make it through Brothers in Arms? Will Corey get over his vehement and entirely unreasonable hatred of reggae?!?!?The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and please hear my confession.Songs covered in this episode: "Ride Across the River", "The Man's Too Strong", "One World", "Brothers in Arms"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashTwitter: https://twitter.com/UCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.social Hosted on Acast. Today's guest has a long list of titles: CEO and head coach at WinRate Consulting, founder of non-profit A Champion's Shoes, host of the podcast Big Stud, best selling author of Too Strong, and many more. As a personal development coach, Mike Claudio is passionate about helping people overcome their fears of being great. He's a big believer in manifestation and can usually be seen repping his ‘Win' or ‘Champion' swag. Mike's been obese, broke, a womanizer, you name it. On today's episode of Business, Cars, and Cigars, he's here to share what he's learned and what he practices every day to make sure he stays on top. One lesson he's sharing is, never play small to accommodate other people. If, like Mike, you're larger than life, you need to tune in today to get rid of your fear of failure and your desire to conform. You'll come away with the confidence you need to live the lifestyle of your dreams. ++++++++++Song-Tipps zur Folge++++++++++ Down on the Waterline, Sultans of Swing, In The Gallery, Wild West End, News, Lady Writer, Single Handed Sailor, Tunnel of Love, Romeo & Juliet, Expresso Love, Solid Rock, Telegraph Road, Private Investigations, Walk of Life, Money For Nothing, Your Latest Trick, Why Worry, The Man's Too Strong

I have spent ten plus years learning the art of the Contrarian mindset, mostly to spectacular results. Today's podcast explains: 1. Putin Sucks, is evil, and Go Ukraine! 2. The roots of my contrarian journey. 3. Three things I think are amiss with everything going on. Maybe it's Occam's Razor or I have a Cognitive blindspot due to always looking for an angle...but something seems off about this whole situation. Too Strong a hive mind, as Mike Cernovich said. Thank you all for listening! Please subscribe for more interesting and potentially contrarian takes! On this journey, you will find that losing the haters sometimes means letting go of relationships with certain individuals in your life. Not everyone is able to join your journey and that's okay. What you can gain instead is a family...a tribe that you choose that supports your vision. On this episode of “Crushing The Day,” Drewbie shares about one of his favorite people and closest friends Mike Claudio. Mike is not only the author of the book “Too Strong”, but he is someone Drewbie can count on to keep him accountable for becoming the best version of himself. We all need a tribe, real people who are in our lives day in and day out who will tell us exactly what we need to hear, even when we don't feel like hearing it. They are individuals who truly care about the things we care about and help us to reach our goals. Tune in to learn more. What You'll Learn: How we all need friends that show up, do the work, and go above and beyond in their own journey. Why a good friend is often a merciless one! That your tribe should be made of individuals who will make sure that you succeed no matter what! Favorite Quote: “I encourage you if you don't have a tribe now, to step out and find one...because your people will always be there to help you win fast and win often.” —Drewbie Wilson Mike Claudio "Too Strong" How to get involved Go to the CRUSHING THE DAY website to get involved!
