Rod Brown is a serial entrepreneur who has co-founded three companies, over the past decade, that were all bootstrapped and all grew from zero to 7 figures.  The software company OnceLogix, landed on the Inc. 5000 list in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and The Forbes Small Giants list in 2017.   Born in the small coastal city of Wilmington, N.C., Brown worked in the financial services industry. Upon graduating with a B.A. in Information Systems from Winston-Salem State University, he began working at Wachovia Bank, which is now a part of the Wells Fargo Company. He began at Wachovia, working in the bank's Operations Division, in which he led several Cash Management Services groups. He left Wachovia as a Vice President in its Wealth Management Division, as a Financial Advisor to co-found his own company.   Brown co-founded the software company OnceLogix, LLC in 2005 with Trinity Manning and Ty McLaughlin. As a result, they developed Sharenote.com (www.sharenote.com), a fast-growing, web based tool used by behavioral healthcare companies in the Southeast. What started out as a tool to help Behavioral Healthcare Clinicians manage notes about their patients is becoming a sought-after Practice Management tool for behavioral healthcare firms. After seeing the success of ShareNote.com, Brown and his partners are aiming to expand the business to help offer a more streamlined management system for a host of business professions and their respective industries.   Brown has recently ventured into the logistics and transportation business by Greenwood Logistic Solutions, LLC. Common stock is a security that represents ownership in a corporation. Holders of common stock elect the board of directors and vote on corporate policies. This form of equity ownership typically yields higher rates of return long term. However, in the event of liquidation, common shareholders have rights to a company's assets only after bondholders, preferred shareholders, and other debt holders are paid in full. Common stock is reported in the stockholder's equity section of a company's balance sheet.With common stock, if a company goes bankrupt, the common stockholders do not receive their money until the creditors, bondholders, and preferred shareholders have received their respective share. This makes common stock riskier than debt or preferred shares. The upside to common shares is they usually outperform bonds and preferred shares in the long run. Many companies issue all three types of securities. For example, Wells Fargo & Company has several bonds available on the secondary market. The first-ever common stock was established in 1602 by the Dutch East India Company and introduced on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. Larger US-based stocks are traded on a public exchange, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or NASDAQ. As of 2019, the former has 2800 stocks listed on its bourses, while the latter has 3300 stocks listed. NYSE had a market capitalization of $28.5 trillion in June 2018, making it the biggest stock exchange in the world by market cap.

Business Day TV — Drikus Combrinck from Capicraft chose Wells Fargo & Company as his stock pick of the day and Greg Katzenellenbogen from Sanlam Private Wealth chose Richemont. Combrinck said: "Wells Fargo is my stock pick and is actually a blessing in disguise and that is in the fact that they've had regulatory limits so they haven't expanded the lending books really of the last year so. They've been buying back stock at higher levels albeit, but they're continuing to buy back stock and if you count the dividend at the rate that they're buying back stock at the moment it is at 18% f the share price, and that is a shareholder yield. Katzenellenbogen said: "I would be watching Richmond, the share price has come back significantly because of the problems they were having in Hong Kong and now of course with coronavirus and people have been staying at home. But I do believe that this is a quality stock and with the stimulus measures that coming in Hong Kong they've been giving every resident something like ten thousand dollars each as a handout and I do believe that it looks like things are peaking in China and the rate of infection is coming down. China's starting to send people back to work so it doesn't mean go out tomorrow and buy Richemont but I would think that it's looking very attractive and if I was to pick a stock it would be that."

Business Day TV — Drikus Combrinck from Capicraft chose Wells Fargo & Company as his stock pick of the day and Gerbrand Smit from N-e-FG Fund Management chose Zambezi Plat Combrink said: "I choose Wells Fargo, they had some regulatory issues quite recently, the Federal Reserve is limiting the amount that they can lend out at the moment or at the speed at which they can grow and that forces them to be very efficient capital allocators. They recently changed their incentive structures which has led to the regulatory problems. They are sitting at a 6% dividend yield and they are buying back stocks. Because they are prohibited in increasing their lend-book, the buying back of stocks brings a lot of wealth back to the share holders in a different form. Smit said: "I have picked Zambezi plat on a previous episode and it is still at the right price, you are getting 13,25% on a platter in a difficult market. You have another optionality here, the only risk is that Northam must survive with the current palladium basket price and Northam is making more than enough to bolster their new projects. The optionality is that Northam will most probably buy back these share over time."

Today, we have five generations participating simultaneously in the workforce and with that comes conflicting beliefs and values; technology playing an important factor. Smith previously served as director of Enterprise Operations and her responsibilities include executive leadership for the Customer Care Centers, as well as all Deposit, Treasury, and Lending Operations for Zions Bancorporation. Before joining the Enterprise Operations team, Jennifer was Zions Bancorporation’s Director of Internal Audit reporting directly to the audit committee of the board of directors.     Prior to joining Zions in 2006, she held various positions at Wells Fargo & Company from 1995-2006, including Senior Vice President Operations Risk Management and Senior Vice President and Director of Technology and Operations Audit.  She holds an honors B.A. degree and M.S. degree in economics from the University of Utah.  Jennifer has received several business honors, including being named one of the top “40 Business Leaders under 40” by Utah Business magazine in 2010.  In 2011, she was named as a member of 1 of 4 top U.S. banking teams, in American Banker’s “25 Most Powerful Women in Banking” edition and one of the top “30 Business Women to Watch” by Utah Business magazine in 2012.  In 2012, she was named an International Women’s Forum leadership fellow.    Jennifer has a commitment to community service.   She has been an active leader in United Way's collective impact initiatives creating improved community outcomes in education, health, and income.   She is a member of the YWCA of Utah’s Board of Directors and has previously held positions on the United Way's board of directors and as a chair of their Women's Leadership Council. She is an active Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Utah mentor.  In 2011 she received the Women’s Philanthropic Network’s Member of the Year award, and United Way’s Heart and Hands award.  Jennifer, her husband, 17 year old daughter, and 14 year old son live in the mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah.   We welcome Jennifer Smith to Leaders247.
