Are Coronal Mass Ejections dangerous to life on Earth? When are we finally going to plunge through the sulfuric acid clouds to measure the atmosphere of Venus. And what's up with 'Oumuamua and 3I/Atlas? To find out, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu welcome astrobiologist Dr. David Grinspoon, aka Dr. FunkySpoon. As always, we start with the day's joyfully cool cosmic thing: the arrival at Earth of two consecutive Coronal Mass Ejections on Nov. 11, 2025, creating an amazing display of Northern and Sothern Lights. In the US, aurora were seen as far south as Texas and even Central America, and yet Chuck, Alan and David were all frustrated by clouds in their own attempts to see them! Luckily, they've each already seen auroras with their own eyes, a viewing event David likens to seeing a total solar eclipse. David discusses how solar flares can impact human technology, but that while solar flares from other stars could be dangerous for life on their planets, at this point in our sun's lifetime, they are unlikely to wipe out life on Earth. Chuck shares aurora images that were taken by our previous guest, astrophotographer Elliot Severn. For our audience questions this week, we're answering questions given to Chuck while he was presenting at an event in Erie, PA. The first question Chuck asks David is, “When we have interstellar visitors like 'Oumuamua and 3I/Atlas, [1] why are they moving so fast in our space? They seem to defy gravity [2] How can they know what 3I/atlas is made of but not the density or materials?” David explains why the extreme speed at which they are moving is actually proof that they are interstellar objects and not something else. He also discusses how we use spectroscopy to determine what they're made of the same way we determine what distant stars and exoplanets are made of. Our next question from Erie, PA is, “Is there a mathematical probability or formula to predict the likelihood of life existing int he universe? In other words, has someone developed a model to predict how many unique things need to happen for life to evolve?” David explains the Drake Equation, a series of questions that help astrobiologists assess the probability of intelligent life in the galaxy. Our last question from Erie is, “If humans find life on a different planet, would we actually understand how to coexist with the information, or will world leaders hide the truth from us?” David points out – as someone who has helped devise astrobiology policy – that the response depends in part on the specifics of the discovery, like how far away that life is. But would the government be able to hide it? David says that the scientists who discover it would be shouting it from the rooftops: “How long would it take to type it and hit send?” And as Chuck points out, the very act of the government trying to censor it would turbocharge the speed at which scientists would get the news out. The real problem, David says, is the potential of each discovery being overhyped by journalists, leading to public burnout. He brings up two examples of overhype: the discovery of possible biosignatures in iron nodules on the Martian rock Cheyava Falls in 2024 by the Perseverance Rover, and the presence of dimethyl sulphide in the atmospheric composition of exoplanet K2-18 b. Next, we turn to David's “second favorite planet,” Venus, which he has studied and written about extensively. David shows us the first book he ever wrote, “Venus Revealed” and talks about upcoming missions to Venus: two from the US, DAVINCI and VERITAS; a European Space Agency mission named EnVision; a Venus Orbiter Mission by India's ISRO, and a private Rocket Lab mission to Venus. David, who is involved with the DAVINCI mission, tells us about the plan to plunge through the sulfuric acid clouds to measure the Venusian atmosphere and surface with modern instruments for the first time. We end with a discussion of the anti-science cycle we're going through, and David shares why he thinks this moment is so unusual and scary, but also why there is reason for hope. Chuck talks about why scientists take the long perspective, and David reminds us of the huge worldwide support for the exploration of space. If you've been scrolling lately, you've probably noticed lots of comet chatter about 3I/ATLAS. What's all the bruhaha about and what does it mean for you? Let's start with the basics. 3I/ATLAS is an interstellar comet, meaning it's not from our solar system. It's a cosmic traveler cruising at over 100,000 miles an hour. It will make its closest approach to Earth around December 19, 2025, which means around 170 million miles away. So yes, it's rare and worth paying attention to. But physically? You're fine. Humanity is fine. The planet is fine. Now spiritually… this is where things get interesting. People Are Lit Up About This Comet Astronomers love it because it's only our third known interstellar visitor after ‘Oumuamua and Borisov. But the spiritual community is lit up because of the timing, the symbolism, and the energetic ripples many intuitives are already feeling. Channelers are comparing notes. Astrologers are cross-referencing charts. Energy sensitives have that familiar “something's shifting” hum inside their chest. Think of 3I/ATLAS as a celestial tuning fork drifting through our sky, humming just enough that the sensitive folks among us feel the vibration before it even arrives. So the timing of this comet is pretty synchronistic, don’t you think? As this podcast goes to air, we have a lot of cosmic forces at play. In our last episode, we talked about all the planets moving around, going from retrograde to direct—lots of cosmic activity. We just went through that full moon, a super full moon so close to the earth, illuminating so much light and insight into our future. We're at this point where we let all that old stuff go and open up to new activity, new ideas. We're moving into a new season. What's really lighting up the skies right now is the 3I/ATLAS—an interstellar comet discovered on July 1, 2025, by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) telescope in Chile. It represents the third confirmed object from outside our Solar System ever observed passing through our cosmic neighborhood, following ʻOumuamua (2017) and 2I/Borisov (2019). In this next week, it will be the closest it gets to planet Earth. This comet has a huge tail and is bringing in light codes. The thing that makes this so unusual is it's not from our galaxy. What is it bringing? There were lots of rumors that it was bringing in aliens, yet none of that's confirmed. I do believe it's bringing in light codes to activate our light bodies—just like we've been talking about in the last several episodes, opening up more structures for the DNA, opening up the light bodies to expand the consciousness of who we truly are. As we're moving closer and closer to the very end of fall, we'll be talking more and more about the solstice falling in that energy of Capricorn and how it is illuminating even more shifts and changes for humanity. How do planetary ring systems rings form, and what keeps them in line? What exactly is the Dragon Cloud of Saturn? And what's up with quasi moon 2025 PN7? To find out, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu welcome Cornell University's dynamical astronomer Dr. Phil Nicholson for a refresher course in orbital mechanics. As always, though, we start off with the day's joyfully cool cosmic thing, which is right up Phil's alley: the recent discovery of quasi moon 2025 PN7. Phil unpacks the orbital mechanics to explain the critical differences between quasi moons and regular moons, and also 2025 PN7's strange relationship to Earth's orbit. He also explains the dynamics of the sun's tidal forces and Earth's Hill Sphere. For our first question from the audience, Jameson asks, “Are meteorites smaller copies of planets. Are all of them the same?” Rather than discuss meteorites, which are the tiny survivors that have crashed on Earth, Phil pivots to where many of them come from in the first place: asteroids. Really big asteroids share some characteristics with planets, like being spherical in shape, whereas the smaller ones can be highly irregular, like the dumbbell-shaped asteroid 216 Kleopatra, or Arrokoth, previously known as Ultima Thule. Chuck asks Phil about the different shapes large asteroids can come in, and Phil points out 433 Eros, the second largest Near Earth Object, which is banana shaped. The ensuing brief discussion of the “is it a long, skinny asteroid or an interstellar starship?” debate, like the one sparked by Oumuamua, leads to a conversation about Arthur C. Clarke's “Rendezvous with Rama”, which described just such a starship back in 1973. Somehow, we end up looking at the “face” on Mars and the “Death Star,” aka, Saturn's moon Mimus as it was imaged by the Cassini spacecraft. Phil actually worked on the Cassini mission, and Chuck asks him to talk about his experience peering hundreds of miles deep into Saturn's atmosphere with the spacecraft's Visible and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS). Along with other instruments run by other teams, the mission changed our perception of Saturn's “boring” atmosphere, documenting aurora, lightning, and giant storms like the “Dragon Cloud of Saturn.” Our next student question comes from Marvin, who asks, “What exactly is a Shepherd moon?” To answer, Phil describes what Saturn's rings are made of, how they form, and how they're structured. He explains what happens when particles that make up the rings collide, why some rings spread over time, while others stay very narrow, and the role Shepherd satellites play in the process. We end with Chuck soliciting a few classic sci-fi recommendations from Phil, who suggests anything by Arthur C. Clarke, the Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov, and almost anything by Larry Niven, including Ringworld, his most famous series. El visitante vuelve: El cometa interestelar 3I/ATLAS reaparece con datos nuevos y un cambio de velocidad que intriga a la NASA.  Por Félix Riaño @LocutorCo  Escucha todos los días el Flash DiarioDespués de pasar oculto tras el Sol durante octubre, el visitante interestelar 3I/ATLAS volvió a escena con novedades que están desconcertando a la comunidad científica. NASA ha confirmado que el objeto cambió su velocidad y trayectoria de forma que no encaja con las fuerzas conocidas. Al mismo tiempo, su color se tornó azul brillante y su brillo aumentó más de lo esperado. En este episodio vamos a repasar qué se ha descubierto desde su paso por el perihelio, qué está analizando la NASA y cuándo podremos volver a observarlo desde la Tierra.  El 29 de octubre, el cometa 3I/ATLAS alcanzó su punto más cercano al Sol. Los observatorios que siguieron su paso registraron un aumento repentino de luminosidad y un cambio de color: de verde a azul. Pocos días después, NASA confirmó algo más extraño aún: una aceleración no gravitacional, un impulso que lo movió fuera de su ruta calculada.Los científicos del Laboratorio de Propulsión a Chorro publicaron que el objeto avanza ahora a unos 245 000 kilómetros por hora, un incremento difícil de justificar solo con la acción del calor solar. Harvard, la Agencia Espacial Europea y el Instituto Coreano de Astronomía están revisando la información más reciente mientras el cometa vuelve a hacerse visible antes de continuar su viaje fuera del sistema solar.  Volvió… y ahora se comporta de forma imposible.  Las nuevas observaciones provienen de telescopios en Chile, Sudáfrica, Australia y del James Webb Space Telescope, que captó un halo azul a su alrededor. El análisis espectral indica una proporción inusual de dióxido de carbono ocho veces superior al agua, y presencia de níquel metálico en niveles que no existen en cometas del sistema solar.La luz de 3I/ATLAS muestra además una polarización negativa extrema, un patrón de vibración que no se había visto antes. Para el astrónomo coreano Moon Hong-kyu, esto sugiere que el cometa se formó en una región de temperatura extremadamente baja, muy diferente de cualquier entorno cercano al Sol.Las observaciones también confirman que su núcleo mide unos once kilómetros y que la masa ronda los 33 000 millones de toneladas, lo que lo convierte en el objeto interestelar más grande jamás detectado.  El comportamiento de 3I/ATLAS ha abierto un debate científico y político. La congresista estadounidense Anna Paulina Luna pidió a la NASA publicar las imágenes tomadas por la cámara HiRISE del orbitador de Marte y por el rover Perseverance, captadas cuando el cometa pasó a unos 30 millones de kilómetros del planeta rojo.Al mismo tiempo, Avi Loeb, físico de Harvard, enumeró diez anomalías en su trayectoria, entre ellas la aceleración no explicada, la luz polarizada, el cambio de color y una coincidencia angular con la dirección del famoso “Wow! Si no la encuentra, los astrónomos tendrán que revisar las explicaciones actuales sobre la dinámica de los objetos interestelares.Por ahora, lo único seguro es que 3I/ATLAS sigue acelerando y alejándose, y que el 19 de diciembre estará en su punto más cercano a la Tierra: unos 270 millones de kilómetros.  El cometa se podrá observar desde el hemisferio norte en las madrugadas de diciembre con telescopios de al menos 30 centímetros de apertura. Los mejores momentos para buscarlo serán antes del amanecer, hacia el horizonte este.La Agencia Espacial Europea, a través de su misión JUICE, también tiene programadas observaciones entre el 2 y el 25 de noviembre desde la órbita de Júpiter. Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb joins Brian Keating to discuss a groundbreaking observation: the HiRISE camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has imaged 3I/ATLAS, a rare interstellar visitor, from the vantage point of Mars. Loeb even calculated that 3I/ATLAS's trajectory passed within about one degree of the Wow! Signal's sky position, making the connection more than metaphorical. Ignoring such rare alignments risks repeating history: anomalies slip through our fingers while orthodoxy insists nothing unusual happened. The Wow! Signal warned us of the danger of complacency; 3I/ATLAS reminds us that cosmic surprises often lurk at the margins of expectation, carrying lessons we may miss if we force every mystery into old categories. -

Comets may be one of the most underrated influences on everything from religion and superstition to health. From the ancient world until contemporary times, the comet was and remains a harbinger, an omen, a portent of upheaval and change. It's not just a celestial sign either, as scientific analysis of a comet's composition may help to explain our history of disease outbreaks around the world, and thus the nature of  wars and the deaths of empires or kings that are associated with the appearance of these objects in the sky. Furthermore, the comet is a carrier of the water above the firmament just as it is a macrocosmic sperm searching for a planetary egg. The appearance of three interstellar objects in the last decade, including 3I Atlas, also share a relationship with religious prophecy and disease. Just as many analyze rock music for Satan, who can be found in greater abundance instead within pop music, we are looking in the wrong place for aliens and gods too. The approaching 3I/ATLAS interstellar object has been classified as possibly non-natural, largely based on the work of a Harvard team led by Abraham (Avi) Loeb. In a recent paper, termed a “pedagogical exercise,” the team said “the most likely outcome” of the anomaly will be that it is “completely natural interstellar object, probably a comet.” But this has not stopped speculation from spiraling out of control, so that what was a thought experiment has now evolved into a warning about a coming extraterrestrial invasion. But there is more to the story, because the ideas presented here are equivalent to to SARS-CoV2, i.e., an invisible potential threat.Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna recently told Joe Rogan in August 2025 that she's seen evidence of “interdimensional beings” and that there are reports of their “movements outside of time and space.” She goes on to refer to the Bible and the time of Christ, meaning that her comments share a relationship with ancient astronaut theory too.This reminds us of White House science adviser Michael Kratsios who claimed in April 2025 the U.S. has technology that can “manipulate time and space.” It won't be lost on some that the congressman is named Luna, Latin for moon, and the science advisor's name is derived from Kratos, Greek for strength and power and associated with war; he is the enforcer of Zeus with his sister Bia (force). The name “Atlas” has the same meaning of strength, though in mythology he is a Titan, or a primordial deity of natural forces. The two previous interstellar objects, Oumuamua and Borisov, which means “messenger from afar arriving first” and “fighter” respectively. Such names imply a coming messenger and fighter that has the ability to change the order of life and introduce a new way of thinking.Going back to a July 8, 1947, memorandum numbered 6751, the U.S. government reportedly knew that Roswell - whatever happened - was to be understood on the basis that the flying “disks carry crews” or are “under remote control,” and that they have a mission from another world. The documented says their “planet” is an “etheric planet which interpenetrates with our own and is not perceptible to us.” It likewise links their home to the Lokas and Talas, respectively the higher and lower spiritual planes. Avi Loeb also recently posited that 3I/ATLAS may herald the arrival of “a messianic era,” that the messiah may come “from another star.” He also believes there “needs to be an international organization” to deal with possible peace or conflict which accompanies contact, though he hopes, like President Reagan, such a thing will “bring people together” even if it is based on “an external threat.” It must not be a coincidence that reports are simultaneously being published by religious websites claiming Israel has either already performed the red heifer sacrifice or at least conducted a test run for the real ritual, something many believe is necessary before the Third Temple can be built. However, ultra-orthodox Jews believe this is wrong, and that divine intervention should be the author of ritual instead of human initiative. Other Jews see the sacrifice as archaic and believe the messiah is an era, like Loeb eluded too, rather than a person. Either way, almost all Christians are eager to fulfill perceived prophecy.Amateur astronomers have further noted the appearance of cube-like structures near the sun and some have even suggested that certain views of 3I/ATLAS appear to portray the object in a similar form. Of course this relates to Revelation 21:16 which describes the New Jerusalem as a cube. However, the book in question is a metaphoric spiritual treatise and the city in question is nothing more than the foundation of peace. The cube indicates a sort of polished masonic rock, where a person is square and upright. Whether interpreted literally or figuratively we can still find a messianic era and the bringer of peace in these stories, though if such things are perceived as literal they may bring war instead.   On the other hand, UAP celebrities like Jeremy Corbell have contrarily been warning that the public is going to be told “there is a craft on its way to Earth” and that it is a “lie you are going to be told.” So why are we looking in the wrong place for aliens and gods? Because quietly under our noses the rise of AI has taken over businesses, schools, governments and even spirituality. The big technology boom in AI is also, according to Larry Ellison of Oracle, evolving primarily out of Herzliya Israel. If the Jewish messiah or messianic concept in some capacity arrives from another star, even if such an idea can be implanted, then perhaps it would explain why certain Jewish stereotypes and the Jewish covenant with god have been seen as part of the ancient alien narrative. In fact, the entire idea of ancient aliens, or paleo-astronautics, was first introduced by Matest M. Agrest who was born into a family of Torah scholars. As C.J.S. A Harvard astronomer is suggesting that an interstellar object nearing Earth could be an engineered object — rather than a natural one — after making similar claims in in 2023 and 2017.Avi Loeb, the chair of Harvard's astronomy department, told CNN on Thursday that the 31/ATLAS interstellar object detected by the Deep Random Survey remote telescope in Chile could have an alien origin."The brightness of the object implies a diameter of 20 km, and there is not enough rocky material in interstellar space to deliver such a giant object per decade," Loeb said.He noted that it takes "10,000 years for that much mass to arrive to the inner part of the solar system."Loeb also said that the object will be closest to the Earth when our planet is on the opposite side of the sun, meaning we won't be able to actually see it."We won't be able to observe it, but that's the perfect time for it to maneuver, and so we just need to watch it," he said.He went on to say he thinks there's a chance that the object could be engineered rather than naturally occurring."I'm not saying it's an alien technology," Loeb said. "I'm just saying it doesn't look like a very common thing, and actually, the glow that is around this object, usually for comets, you see a trailing tail behind the object and here the glow from the Hubble Space Telescope image is actually in front of the object."The astronomer said that "we've never seen such a thing" and noted that a comet wouldn't "have glow in front of it."He argued that it's prudent for humanity to examine any interstellar objects entering our solar system, just to be sure they're harmless.“[31/ATLAS] may come to save us or destroy us,” he said. “We'd better be ready for both options and check whether all interstellar objects are rocks.”31/ATLAS made news in July after scientists confirmed it originated outside of our solar system, making it one of only three known interstellar objects discovered in our little slice of space.The object is massive, with scientists estimating it is more than 12 miles wide.Loeb theorizing a more enigmatic origin of the object isn't exactly off-brand for him. In 2023 he made headlines after he and a team recovered a meteor that fell into the Pacific Ocean. He claimed at the time that an analysis found previously unseen metal alloys in the rock, suggesting at very least an origin outside of our solar system, but other astrophysicists were skeptical of those claims.Back in 2017, Oumuamua, a long, rod-like object, became the first known interstellar object detected in our solar system.Loeb released a paper in 2021 exploring the idea that the strange object — which about the length of a football field but only as thick as a common cigar — was possibly using a "light sail" that captures the sun's energy as a means of propulsion.He was essentially suggesting that Oumuamua could have been crafted by aliens or some other intelligence.n 2023, researchers published a study that found the object's strange orbit and apparent propulsion was actually achieved through a mechanism found in many icy comets. Funny thing is, those emails were a precursor to the public exposure about Epstein. And just when many thought the truth was going to come out about that, and while people are shocked at the coverup and members of Congress recessed on the very issue only to travel to Israel, we have seen in unison JD Vance and Tulsi Gabbard start talking about UFOs, while Robert Malone recently confirmed RFK Jr got briefings on the subject.
