His teaching career includes teaching cinematography at AFTRS, Macquarie and La Trobe Universities along with Footscray College and The Victorian College of the Arts. David was also my mentor, although I suspect he didn't realise that. As a budding cinematographer I was always pestering David for advice. He not only happily gave me the advice but he was also incredibly supportive and encouraging as I was finding my way. It's largely due to David that I received such a fantastic foundation as a Cinematographer which went on to serve me so well and I transitioned into the role of a Colorist. Dylan Logue grew up in Wentworth Falls and attended Blue Mountains Grammar School. Through his upbringing and schooling years, Dylan developed a passion for creativity and spent countless hours exploring and experimenting with screen writing and film making. After high school and despite initial rejection, Dylan was accepted into the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) to study Screen Production. The experience, whilst challenging at times, helped refine Dylan’s craft and instilled a sense of resilience and promoted the importance collaboration in screen production. “I remember getting knocked back by AFTRS for their main course – it left me in the position of not doing a whole lot (straight after high school)”, Dylan said. “Once accepted, I learnt a whole lot from AFTRS, especially about teamwork and how much effort goes into getting a project made”. Beyond screen production, Dylan has also adopted fiction writing and is in the draft stage of his maiden novel, a process which started organically. Becoming an author has created an additional creative outlet for Dylan, with an element of independence and freedom channelled into his work. “I started writing the book when my friend gave me a notebook as a gift”, Dylan said. “Every morning I would get up and write a page or so. As I started writing I thought, ‘There is actually a story here’, and that became Chapter One of the novel”. Learning and personal growth remain important for Dylan and it is a sense of self-awareness, alongside theory, that he feels is key to the continual development of his creative work. “Reflection is going to be the way you learn. Once you do something sit back and think, ‘Am I happy with that? How could I do that better?’”, Dylan said. “You will learn by doing, reflection and perseverance. Those are the three things that will get you across the line”. Find out more in the latest episode of the Passion & Perspective Podcast, hosted by Jonathan Robinson-Lees.

If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be? “Female Sexuality. I am deeply passionate about gender equality. So much about conditioning says that women are dangerous, because they are sexual. Therefore, we must desexualise women in the workforce in order for them to be able to participate.” -- Keeva Stratton is the founder of Quip Brands, a leading brand agency based in Sydney, and  the Co-Founder of Ms Tee, a fun T-shirt label that let’s women speak their mind through their body. She is a successful and sought-after mentor and activator, with a particular investment in supporting the female entrepreneurial community. Years ago, her career began with recording and directing character voices for arcade games; it’s a career that has since taken many strange and wonderful twists and turns. She’s produced a national science fiction radio show; she’s covered Australian Fashion Week; and interviewed Hollywood heavyweights such as Quentin Tarantino. Keeva has degrees in Communications and Cultural Studies, a Master of Criminology and a Juris Doctor, adding complex layers to her understanding of audience and engagement. Listen as respected Elder Uncle Bruce Pascoe ruminates on people’s responsibility to be knowledge keepers. An opportunity to hear understandings of the responsibility as being part of the oldest living culture. There are numerous languages spoken in Australia but there were once hundreds spoken by the Indigenous Peoples of Australia. Culture is passed on through story, language and in this episode, you can hear how this has occurred over time. In a career encompassing playwrighting, teaching, academia and directing, Grace Barnes has championed the female voice in storytelling. And … working as an associate or resident director on original productions of SUNSET BOULEVARD, MARTIN GUERRE & THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, she has had a seat at the birth of seminal works of musical theatre and observed the creatives that made them. She was even present in the initial weeks of MISS SAIGON on Broadway. So how did a theatre obsessed kid from Scotland, escape the bleak countryside of Shetland and soon find herself amongst the bright lights of Broadway?Barnes has recently completed her PHD and has commenced her second book, a biography of Mina Wylie - the Olympic swimmer from Coogee who was a trailblazer of women’s sport in Australia. Her first book is a reflection on the role of women in musical theatre. "If musical theatre reflects prevailing societal attitudes, what does the modern musical tell us about the place of women in contemporary America, the UK and Australia?" A fascinating read, posing much for consideration, is HER TURN ON STAGE by Grace Barnes.

Greg Waters has been an executive producer, writer and show-runner on a number of great Australian drama series. His credits include: Rake, Anzac Girls, Janet King, Paper Giants, Devil’s Dust, An Accidental Soldier, The Straights, Crownies and Dance Academy. Yet up until his early thirties he was working in politics - until he decided to defect to study at AFTRS, the Australian Film Television and Radio School. His most recent achievements are the second series of the tripped-out sketch comedy series ‘Soulmates’ starring Christiaan Van Vuuren and Nick Boshier (aka The Bondi Hipsters) as well as what is sure to be one of the countries biggest TV events of the year, the political drama Secret City which premier’s on Foxtel’s Showcase this Sunday, June 5. Though he is incredibly modest, I did get him to open up about his process - some of which I witnessed first-hand as Greg and I have been housemates over the past few years. An absolute culture vulture, Greg is constantly absorbing information and inspiration around what he is interested in – or about the world that is relevant to what he is creating. He sees every play, every major TV drama, and every time I asked him if he’d heard of a podcast, he was all over it. He is also an indie music boffin and a regular attendee of alt music festival ‘Splendour in the Grass’. Talk about ‘filling your well’! I was very happy to sit down with my friend and reluctant mentor, Greg Waters.
