Shoot us a Text.Happy Friday! Today, we're covering how Elon rallied Tesla employees during a surprise all hands meeting last night. Plus, auto auctions have their best year since 2020 and consumers prefer AI-generated responses to reviews over those written by humans.Show Notes with links:Elon Musk held a surprise all-hands meeting at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory on Thursday night, reassuring employees amid a steep drop in stock value. Musk urged employees and investors to "hang on to your stock" while promoting Tesla's Cybercab and Optimus robots.Musk addressed Tesla's stock drop, which has lost roughly half its value since December, attributing future success to autonomous driving and AI.The operations team is tasked with ramping up Cybercab production, which Musk says will use a high-speed, electronics-style manufacturing process.Tesla plans to build thousands of humanoid “Optimus” robots, aiming to produce "at least one legion" this year and scale up further in 2025.Despite recent political controversy surrounding Musk, employees avoided the topic in the Q&A session.Musk admitted he is "stretched pretty thin," saying “I have like 17 jobs, at this point,” managing multiple companies and government advisory roles. The National Auto Auction Association (NAAA) reports that 2024 saw the highest number of vehicles sold at auction since 2020, marking a strong recovery for the wholesale market.NAAA member auctions moved nearly 7.6 million vehicles in 2024, a notable rebound.Of the 12 million vehicles offered, 61.3% were sold—the second-highest conversion rate ever recorded. The average wholesale price fell 5% to $13,921, but volume gains helped drive total sales to $105 billion.NAAA credits auctions as the "backbone of vehicle remarketing," offering vital services for efficient redistribution, offering logistics, reconditioning, and titling services that digital-only platforms struggle to match."Our members reported year-over-year growth despite headwinds," said Larry Dixon, NAAA vice president of auction data solutions.Who should respond to online reviews? AI or actual people? For the second consecutive year, BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey found that consumers prefer AI-generated responses over those written by humans. The study raises questions about how consumers perceive AI in customer interactions. In two separate tests (a restaurant in 2024 and a vet clinic in 2025), 58% of respondents preferred AI-generated responses over human-written ones.89% of consumers are more likely to shop at a business that responds to reviews, while 56% hesitate if a business ignores them. While consumers prefer AI-written responses, 46% also say reviews "feel fake" if they seem AI-generated.Similar studies show AI-generated social media posts, ads, and product descriptions outperfoHosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

Click hereLocal SEO for attorneys is optimizing a law firm's Google business listing and building citations intending to rank at the top of Google Maps for local keywords their prospective clients search for. Also known as the local-3 pack, Google Maps is a search engine results page (SERP) feature that lists the top three local attorneys and law firms relevant to your search query. It appears just before the organic results. Each listing on the local-3 pack shows the NAP (name, address, phone number) and others to provide users with additional information about the lawyer. Upon clicking on any listings, you will open an expanded version of Google Maps with more relevant lawyers and further information on the listing you clicked on.To rank your local listings, you need to consider these factors:Relevance – How much your listing matches a user search query. Google determines this by the business information you provide.Distance – The proximity of a searcher to your business's IP address based on the search term they use (or whatever they know about the searcher's location). In December 2021, with the launch of the “vicinity update,” Google significantly increased the weightage of the proximity in local searches.Prominence “refers to how well known a business is,” in Google's words. Besides your offline reputation, Google relies on info from across the web: links, articles, directories, reviews, ratings, and your position in Google search results to measure your law firm's prominence. Here are the important local SEO ranking factors for local and organic search results according to a BrightLocal study:General Info: Need help with your law firm's digital marketing?  Google's March Core Update & FUD:  David Mihm sheds light on Google's March core update, marking it as an unusually impactful monthly adjustment from the tech giant. The update has sparked extensive conversation among SEO experts. He highlighted three key focus areas of the update: scaled content, largely driven by AI technologies; site reputation abuse; and what is known colloquially as "parasite SEO." The latter involves strategies to boost article visibility and rankings through dubious means, undermining the quality and reliability of search results. The concept of "scaled content" pertains to the bulk creation and dissemination of AI-generated articles, a trend that raises questions about content originality and value. Meanwhile, the term "site reputation abuse" remains somewhat ambiguous, with Mihm relying on insights from a LinkedIn post by Solis to decipher Google's intended targets with this update. How much of this is enforceable and how much is FUD is debatable. Brightlocal Consumer Review Survey:  We discuss the key findings from the recent BrightLocal review survey Trust in Reviews: The survey confirms that online reviews continue to be a critical factor in consumer decision-making, with a strong preference for businesses rated at four stars or above.Importance of Recent Reviews: Consumers place high value on the freshness of reviews, indicating the necessity for businesses to continuously generate new, positive feedback.Expectation for Response: There is a clear expectation among consumers for businesses to engage with and respond to reviews, signaling this as a factor in building trust and loyalty.Concerns Over Review Fraud: The survey highlights consumer concerns regarding the authenticity of reviews, emphasizing the need for transparency and authenticity in review management. How Often Do Searchers Use the Local Finder?  We discuss data from our recent search behavior study that sheds light on how frequently users access the Local Finder. Search behaviors diverge significantly across devices and verticals, with a marked preference for using the Local Finder feature more on mobile devices and more on queries that are less price sensitive and more reputation driven. This Podcast Is Episode 552, And It's About Why Online Reviews Matter And Ways To Deal With Negative Feedback In today's digital age, online reviews hold immense power and influence over the success of small construction companies. With easy access to social media, Google reviews, and review websites, customers can easily voice their opinions and experiences with your business online. Most people searching for a local construction company - whether they need a plumber, painter, or general contractor, will check their online reviews before deciding.    Positive reviews can help establish credibility, build trust, and attract new customers. Conversely, negative reviews can damage a company's reputation and deter potential customers. Given the importance of online reviews, small construction companies should aim to provide excellent service and encourage satisfied customers to leave positive reviews.   As a small business owner, you must understand the importance of online reviews, as they will impact your brand image, sales, and customer loyalty.   Boost your brand image Online reviews are the first point of contact between your business and potential customers. Positive reviews can improve your brand image and credibility. When customers leave positive reviews, they help build an excellent impression of your brand, which can lead to increased sales and customer loyalty. A study conducted by BrightLocal found that 85% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. So, having a positive online reputation can make a big difference in the success of your small construction business. Improve your sales Online reviews can directly impact your sales. Positive reviews can help you attract new customers, while negative reviews can drive potential customers away. Positive reviews indicate that your business is reliable, trustworthy, and provides excellent customer service. You should encourage customers to leave positive reviews and respond professionally and promptly to negative ones. Gain insight into customer experience Online reviews can provide valuable insights into customer experience, which can help you improve your business. Reviewing them lets you identify areas to improve customer service, products, and business operations. Also, reviews can help you understand your target audience and what they value most about your business. Addressing customer feedback shows that you are willing to take the necessary steps to improve your business, which can enhance your online reputation and attract new customers. Increase customer loyalty Customers appreciate businesses that value their feedback. Responding to customer reviews and addressing their concerns shows you care about their experience with your business. When customers feel heard and appreciated, they are more likely to return and become loyal customers. Ways to deal with negative online feedback/review: Leave the negative review up A negative review doesn't have to be the end of the world. Although customers like to see five-star reviews, they understand that perfection is almost impossible—and probably a sign that something is "too good to be true." In that sense, having a customer or two provide negative feedback gives more credibility to the positive reviews. Customers expect to see a couple of negative reviews. If they're in amongst positive feedback, the negatives won't hurt you much and may increase your legitimacy if handled well. Respond to the review honestly Customer complaints are a way to build trust with your potential clients by allowing you to respond honestly and professionally. Did something go wrong that was out of your hands? Offer an apology and explain what happened. Was there a misunderstanding? Take the opportunity to clear it up. Has the reviewer requested additional information or a solution? Respond online to show what you've done to address the situation. Did the reviewer misunderstand a policy? Explain your policy and invite them to contact you with further questions. Doing so shows readers that you take their concerns seriously and are willing to take responsibility when things go wrong. Learn from negative reviews If you see the same concerns repeatedly in the online feedback, it may be time to review your services. Negative reviews give you insight into areas where your customers feel your business could make changes, so take the time to consider what you're being told. You can improve your offerings or communicate better with clients to manage their expectations. Thank them for their feedback, let them know you're taking their concerns seriously, and explain your next steps. In summary A solid online presence with positive reviews can give you an edge over competitors. It shows that you're reliable, trustworthy, and provide quality work. Encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews on platforms like Google, Yelp, and Facebook. This can help increase the number of reviews and boost your overall rating.  However, remember never to pay for or incentivize customers to leave positive reviews. Make it part of your process to encourage customers to leave reviews by simply asking for them. Monitor and ensure you respond to any negative reviews professionally and promptly. If possible, ensure your responses include an apology, a statement about your commitment to your clients, and a way to continue the conversation offline if further communication is needed. Doing so will show potential customers and clients that you care about their feedback and are willing to take responsibility. It will also allow you to move the conversation to a more private forum if the reviewer isn't happy with your response. The consumer review paradox.More than three-fourths (77%) of consumers now "always" or "regularly" read local business reviews, according to a recent BrightLocal survey. That's up from 60% in 2020.  At the same time, more of them (62%) believe they've encountered fake reviews. Where will this lead?Despite surprise, Amazon's closure of non-grocery businesses indicates they are getting serious.  Is Amazon groceries really just an expensive hobby? Or is it the still developing the unique value (logistics & tech) add that Amazon needs to make a dent in the grocery world. Nextdoor has never developed into the alternative local social network & their numbers show it.  After 12 years, there is still only $59m in quarterly revenue. While that represents a significant 47.9% increase, losses are up 100%. Their 36m weekly active users doesn't bode well for their success as a social alternative or ad platform either.  The Near Memo is a weekly conversation about Search, Social, and Commerce: What happened, why it matters, and the implications for local businesses and national brands.Near Memo Ep 54
