Mercedes Vega is seen on video at 9:15 p.m. leaving her apartment complex in Tempe, Arizona. In the video Vega is seen walking with her face looking down as if she was on Facetime. Mercedes Vegas is texting multiple people on the night of April 16. And looking at those messages as a whole, she is either going to meet friends for Sushi, meet other friends at "Dave&Busters,"  or, as she indicates in another text, go to work. In one of her text messages Mercedes Vega says, "I just feel weird, like maybe I shouldn't go anywhere."  In the early morning hours of April 17, the Harquahala Fire Department responds to a report of a burning car on the “north hand shoulder” of the I-10 highway, west of Tonopah, Arizona. Firefighters find a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu on fire. Once the fire is put out, a deceased human body is found in the rear passenger seat.  At 1:15 a.m.  Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies are called to a scene to assist the Arizona Department of Public Safety on a death investigation.  Investigators talk to the man who called law enforcement about the car on fire. Robert Miller tells officials he saw a person walking outside the vehicle.   Using fingerprints, investigators can identify the woman found inside the burning Malibu as 22-year-old Mercedes Vega. The 2018 Chevrolet Malibu in which her body was found, does not belong to Vega. The car has a Salvage Title vehicle registered to State Farm Insurance and the burning car is 60 miles from Vega's Tempe, Arizona apartment. Mercedes' 2019, White, Dodge Charger is found illegally parked near First Street and Farmer Avenue, 1.5 miles south of where she lives. According to her mother, the car is parked while running with the keys in the ignition so it would be stolen or towed.  The MCSO has video surveillance of Vega's Charger from the time it is left parked on the road until the time police recover it. Vega didn't park it where it was found.  Maricopa County Medical Examiner's report states the cause of death was “conflagration, blunt force and ballistic injuries," and the Manner of Death is Homicide.  The death report also states she has blunt force trauma and gunshot injuries that contributed to her death, and an odor of bleach within the larynx.  The report notes the presence of gloves and bleach found in front of the car and lighter fluid in the backseat.  JOINING NANCY TODAY:  Tom and Erika Pillsbury - Mercedes Vega's parents,  FB: Justice for Mercedes Marianna Vega  Sarah Ford – Legal Director of South Carolina Victim Assistance Network, Former Prosecutor (focusing on crimes against women and children) & Host of “Stepping Toward Justice” podcast; X: @Sarahafordfordesq Robin Dreeke – Behavior Expert & Retired FBI Special Agent / Chief of the FBI Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program; Author: “Sizing People Up: A Veteran FBI Agents Manual for Behavior Prediction;” X: @rdreekeke Dr. Michelle DuPre – Former Forensic Pathologist, Medical Examiner and Detective: Lexington County Sheriff's Department, Author: “Homicide Investigation Field Guide” & “Investigating Child Abuse Field Guide;” Forensic Consultant Bianca Buono – Reporter, 12 News (Phoenix, AZ), X: @BiancaBuono See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 84 Jennifer Kesse 24 year old Jennifer Kesse vanished in Orlando, Florida on January 24th ,2006. People that knew Jennifer best, right away were concerned, because Jennifer was an organized professional who would never go off on a whim. Her car, a black 2004 Chevrolet Malibu was missing from it's parking spot in front of her condo  in the up and coming Mosaic at Millenia condo complex. On January 26th, after seeing the news of Jennifer's disappearance on the news, someone called in a tip that her car could be found at the Huntington on the Green Condominiums, about a mile from her home. Police went to the scene and verified that her car was indeed parked at the seedy Huntington on the Green Condominiums, about a mile from her home, but there was no sign of Jennifer. Police caught a break when they reviewed grainy surveillance photos of the car being parked there, and they were shocked to see that Jennifer was not the person who exited the vehicle. Instead, they could see that a slim person, possibly a male standing between 5ft3 and 5ft5 had parked the card and left on foot. Unfortuately, a fence in the surveillance photos obstructed the view of the driver's face. Dogs tracked the scent from Jennifer's car right back to her condo development leading to suspisions that the person who likely abducted her had walked back to Jennifer's condo complex, and perhaps had reason to be there. It came to light that Jennifer had been wary of some men who were working at her condo complex in the days before she vanished. Police tried to investigate some of those men, but ran into hurdles when they found that the company that employed them did not keep proper records, sometimes paid under the table, and often hired people that were in the country illegally. One tip led to a man named Chino who had worked at the apartment complex. While he may have had information about what happened to Jennifer, he reportedly cooperated with investigators. Jennifer's case eventually went cold but became a popular one in the media and on online discussion forums. Jennifer's family, feeling that things were at a standstill and feeling underwhelmed by the investigation, sued the Orlando PD in order to obtain case files and have the case re-investigated by another agency. It's unclear exactly what clues there are to go in, but reportedly, there was evidence that there may have been a struggle on the hood of Jennifer's car, and DNA may have been recovered. As of today, it's unclear how much progress is being made if any in Jennifer's case, and no sign of Jennifer herself has ever been found.  In this episode, Jennifer's uncle Bill Gilmour, who wrote a book about the case and aftermath, is the guest in this episode, and shares his and the rest of Jennifer's family's insights. When she vanished, Jennifer was described as being 5ft8, 135 lbs, and having Green eyes and sandy blonder hair. She had a shamrock tattoo on her left hip. If you have information about Jennifer's case, please call the Jennifer Kesse tipline at 941-201-4009. True Crime Podcast 2023 - Police Interrogations, 911 Calls and True Police Stories Podcast

Police Interrogation of Former Police Chief For Murdern October 2017, Hardin, then 50 years old, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, admitting that he had killed James Appleton. Appleton pulled into a parking lot on Gann Ridge Road in Gateway, Arkansas on February 23, 2017, to talk with his coworker and brother-in-law on his cell phone. A passerby saw the pickup and a blue Chevrolet Malibu parked behind it.The driver of the Malibu waved him around, the passerby told police, and when he was a few hundred yards away, he heard a bang and saw the Malibu speed toward him, before turning onto the dirt road where Hardin lived. With his family. And his blue Malibu. His wife Linda thought he had been outside spreading grass seed, but the passerby knew Hardin all his life. He was sure it was him.Hardin was sentenced to 30 years in prison and was required to provide a DNA sample to the state. It was a match. Hardin had never even been a suspect, but on February 7, 2019 Hardin pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, finally closing the 1997 case. Hardin received 25 years on each of the two counts, which are running concurrently with his murder sentence. All in all, Hardin will serve at least 21 years of the 30-year murder sentence, and then another 14, before he is first eligible for parole at age 84.Hardin had worked for four police agencies. He was fired from one, allowed to resign from one rather than be fired and resigned from two, always claiming his separation was on higher ground. For example, he claimed to have left Fayetteville Police Department because other officers were stealing and his work environment became intolerably hostile after he reported their theft. He resigned after seven months from Huntsville, stating that he refused to treat people unfairly, as was expected of him. A couple of departments later, and he found himself filing for unemployment. And being denied.Hardin returned to the private sector, but kept his toe in law enforcement, serving two one-year terms as volunteer constable in Benton County. In 2016 Hardin became chief of police in Gateway, resigning after four months to earn an associate's degree in criminal justice at Northwest Arkansas Community College.Hardin was working in corrections when he was arrested for Appleton's murder.Hardin is now #168541 at Arkansas DOC's North Central Unit, where — apart from the whole murder and rape thing — he has no major disciplinary violations, has completed an anger management course, and in October 2017 was determined to be minimum risk classification. To this day no one knows why he killed Appleton.

This is great example of how powerful a lab-scope can be, but also how easy it can lead us down rabbit holes.  Website- https://autodiagpodcast.com/Facebook Group- https://www.facebook.com/groups/223994012068320/Email- STmobilediag@gmail.com Please make sure to check out our sponsors!Automotive Seminars- https://automotiveseminars.com/Jarhead Diagnostics- https://www.jarheaddiag.com/ USE CODE- DIAGPODCAST FOR 10% OFF L1 Automotive Training- https://www.l1training.com/Autorescue tools- https://autorescuetools.com/

This is John McGlothlen with The Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Monday, October 3rd. Today it will be sunny in the Cedar Rapids area, with a high near 75, according to the National Weather Service. Winds from the southeast 5 to 10 mph. Then tonight, a low around 48. A 16-year-old girl was taken to a hospital for minor injuries early Sunday after a woman driving an SUV crossed a center line in northern Linn County and crashed head-on into the car the girl was driving. A Linn County Sheriff's Office news release said at 12:17 a.m., 50-year-old Julia Gharib of Marion, was driving a Toyota 4Runner south on Highway 13 near the Linn Delaware Road intersection when she crossed the center line and collided with a northbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by 16-year-old Ava Bockenstedt of Manchester. Bockenstedt was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for minor injuries. The release did not specify whether Gharib was injured. Both said they were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Gharib was charged with operating while intoxicated and improper use of lanes. A white Cedar Rapids man followed a man from a gas station to the man's workplace in Hiawatha and fired two gunshots at him Friday because of the man's race, according to a criminal complaint. 31-year-old Joshua Barnhart had followed the man from Casey's on 32nd Street NE in Cedar Rapids to Midland Concrete in Hiawatha, where the man works. Barnhart then got out of his vehicle, pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired two shots at the man before fleeing. Barnhart eluded officers until they used stop sticks on his vehicle. According to the complaint, Barnhart said he had targeted the victim because of his race. Barnhart has been charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to inflict serious injury with violation of individual rights, and going armed with intent, all felonies; assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor; and eluding, a serious misdemeanor. He is being held on $500,000 cash-only bond. A man was seriously injured in a house fire Saturday night in northwest Cedar Rapids. Around 11:30 p.m., the Cedar Rapids Fire Department was dispatched to 1730 11th St. NW for a report of a single-family house fire. Officials said in a news release that flames were visible from the front of the house when crews arrived. While searching the two-story house, firefighters found an unresponsive man in a first-floor bedroom, according to a Facebook post by International Association of Fire Fighters Local 11. He was pulled from the home and taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital with serious injuries. No others were found in the home but several pets died in the fire, according to the release. –

It follows a group of repo men who get caught up in the pursuit of a mysterious Chevrolet Malibu that might be connected to extra-terrestrials. Set in LA with a Punk Rock soundtrack the film is anything but conventional.  While the film didn't fair well at the box office, it did receive great critical acclaim and eventually gained wide spread cult classic status. In Episode 004, Reed and Jonathan reminisce about the cars of their teen years (in the 1980s, to be specific): the Pontiac 6000STE and Grand Prix, the Chevrolet Malibu, the Buick Riviera, the Mercury Topaz, and the lesser-spec pedestrian versions of the cars our parents seemed to acquire over our own more sporting preferences. There is content for them furrin' car folks, too, but you have to listen to get it. There's also a little chat about plumbing and survival drinking, both separately and together.

Julie Blackley is a favorite guest on The Weekly Driver Podcast. She's an analyst for iseecars.com, the Boston-based online automotive search engine and research website. Blackley is a whirlwind of automotive industry statistics, and she's the first guest who's joined us three times. Used Toyota Sienna vans in beige are a great car color for good discounts, according to iseecars.com. During this episode, Bruce Aldrich and I discuss with Julie how certain exterior car colors are more likely to result in significant savings for used car shoppers according to a recent study the company conducted. The automotive research firm analyzed more than 4.1 million vehicles to determine which car colors were more likely to provide deals, defined as savings of at least 10 percent of a car's market value. The analysis found less-popular colors don't always amount to the most significant savings. Both common and uncommon colors can provide deals to used car shoppers. The average vehicle has significant savings on 11.3 percent of its inventory. The car color where consumers are most likely to find a deal is beige, which is 24.3 percent more likely to have a deal than the average vehicle. Ranking ninth in terms of popularity among vehicle colors, beige is not among the most popular color choices for consumers . . . black, white, silver and gray. The Volkswagen Passat, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota Sienna are among the most popular cars available in beige. Julie also discusses how the industry and public have reacted to the current survey on iseecars.com. In previous episodes, Julie discussed: Best End of the Year Deals (Episode #66) Best Depreciation After Five Years of Ownership (Episode #57) The Weekly Driver Podcast encourages and appreciates feedback from our listeners. It has maintained its basic competitive premise in which sixteen to twenty contestants, the castaways, are split into tribes and assigned separate camps at the filming's location, typically a tropical setting. As a tribe, the castaways must survive the elements, construct shelter, build fire, look for water, and scrounge for food and other necessities for the entire filming period, around 39 days. In the first half of the game, the tribes face off in challenges, some for rewards of food, shelter, or luxury items, while others are for immunity, preventing the winning tribe from having to go to the next Tribal Council. Tribes that do go to Tribal Council discuss the events of the last few days with the host asking questions, and then must vote out one of their own players, eliminating them from the game.In the second half of the game, the tribes are merged into a single tribe. Challenges are played at an individual level for individual rewards and immunity. At subsequent Tribal Councils, those eliminated start to form the jury, who sit in on all subsequent Tribal Councils but otherwise do not participate. When only two or three castaways remain, those castaways attend a final Tribal Council, where the jury is given the opportunity to ask them questions. After this, the jury members then vote to decide which of the remaining castaways should be declared Sole Survivor.by the local region, and directions to their camps. At their camps, tribes are given minimal resources, such as a machete, water canteens, cooking pots, and staples of rice and grains, and are expected to build shelter against the elements from the local trees and other resources. including fruits, wild animals, and fish.During both pre- and post-merge segments of filming, the castaways compete in a series of challenges. Tribes are alerted to these upcoming challenges by a message, often in rhyme, delivered to camp by the production team at a basket or box on a nearby tree; this message has come to be called "treemail", playing off the word "e-mail". The message typically hints at what the challenge might be. The message may also provide props to demonstrate this, practice equipment for the players, or a sampling of the reward. There are Tribal challenges and individual challenges, played for rewards, immunity or both.Top past prizes have been:• In Survivor: The Australian Outback, Colby Donaldson won a Pontiac Aztek.• In Survivor: Africa, Lex van den Berghe won a Chevrolet Avalanche.• In Survivor: Marquesas, Sean Rector won a Saturn VUE.• In Survivor: Thailand, Ted Rogers won a Chevrolet TrailBlazer.• In Survivor: The Amazon, Matthew von Ertfelda won a Saturn Ion.• In Survivor: Pearl Islands, Burton Roberts won a GMC Envoy XUV.• In Survivor: All-Stars, Rob Mariano won a Chevrolet Colorado.• In addition to the car, Rob was allowed to bring another contestant with him on a trip; he chose Amber Brkich, who received a Chevrolet Malibu as a result.• In Survivor: Vanuatu, Eliza Orlins won a Pontiac G6.• In Survivor: Palau, Ian Rosenberger won a Chevrolet Corvette.• In Survivor: Guatemala, Cindy Hall won a 2006 Pontiac Torrent; she was given the option to relinquish her reward to give the other remaining players, but declined.• In Survivor: Panama, Terry Deitz won a GMC Yukon.• In Survivor: Fiji, Yau-Man Chan won a 2008 Ford Super Duty but gave it to fellow contestant Andria "Dreamz" Herd as part of a strategic deal.

Talking Cars hits the road, covering the 2015 New York Auto Show in an episode recorded right from the show floor. Honda surprises everyone with a 10th generation Civic. Old-school rivals Cadillac and Lincoln face-off, with the soon-to-production CT6 and the Continental concept. Lexus goes down a different road with the now-sportier RX: will it alienate previous buyers? The Chevrolet Malibu loses hundreds of pounds, yet gains four inches of needed rear seat room. While the Malibu looks way different from the previous car, it takes a much closer eye to spot the changes in the redesigned Kia Optima. The new Nissan Maxima draws on its oddly enduring brand equity. Subaru teases us with a BRZ STi while Scion outsources their iA and brings out a Corolla-based iM hatchback. Finally, the Volkswagen Golf Sportswagen Alltrack sets off a discussion about mainstream vs. enthusiast wagons.

Chrysler is going out on a limb. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has ordered the company to recall 2.7 million Jeeps, but they aren’t budging. The problem is that even if Chrysler wins in court, it may tarnish its safety record in the public eye. We’ll be debating that hot topic along with a raft of other items. May car sales look to be back on trend, the Chevrolet Malibu gets a quickie redo, plus the sporty SS gets priced out just below $45K. Joining John McElroy in studio to talk it all out is co-host Peter De Lorenzo, the Autoextremist, Gary Vasilash from Automotive Design and Production and Todd Lassa of Automobile.
