As of February 16, 2024, the updated guidance includes new details for both emergency and non-emergency situations, ensuring that you can swiftly address image removal needs. Properly managing these images can protect your brand's reputation and ensure that only relevant and positive images are associated with your business in search results.The guidance highlights various methods to remove images, covering scenarios where immediate action is required and where there is no direct access to the Content Delivery Network (CDN) or Content Management System (CMS) hosting the images. For urgent removals, Google recommends using the Removals Tool, which temporarily removes images from search results. However, it's crucial to block or remove these images from your site to prevent them from reappearing after the removal request expires.One common issue addressed is the inability to access images hosted on a CDN or through a CMS that doesn't support indexing blocks. In such cases, deleting the images from your site may be necessary. Furthermore, Google has provided more detailed instructions on using robots.txt with wildcards for more effective control over which images are indexed. Le sujet : Pour de nombreux médias, la reconnaissance et la croissance ne vont pas de pair. Avec la crise du Covid-19, beaucoup d'entre eux ont rencontré des difficultés financières. Dans cet écosystème fragile, où les productions dépendent fortement de la sensibilité et de l'intuition de leurs auteurs, pas facile d'atteindre la rentabilité. Afin de renouer avec le succès, le journal Libération recrute un nouveau directeur général. L'invité : Dans ce nouvel épisode de Mediarama, François Defossez, cofondateur de CosaVostra, reçoit Denis Olivennes, directeur général de Libération depuis juin 2020. Passé par, entre autres, Canal+, la Fnac, le Nouvel Obs et CMI France, ce dernier cultive une passion indéniable pour les médias. En succédant à Clément Delpirou, il souhaite accompagner le journal dans la définition de son nouveau positionnement. Initiative : A l'arrivée de Denis Olivennes, Libération accusait une baisse de diffusion quasiment continue depuis une quinzaine d'années. Les abonnements numériques ne parvenaient pas à combler le grand vide laissé par l'effondrement des ventes papier. Le nouveau directeur général a tout de suite rassuré ses collaborateurs : il veillera à ce que l'indépendance éditoriale du journal soit respectée. # D'après Denis Olivennes, l'indépendance d'un média passe par sa rentabilité. Libération ne dépendant plus d'un milliardaire mais d'un fonds de dotation depuis septembre 2020, il se détache des actionnaires. Pour bénéficier d'une liberté inconditionnelle, il doit adopter une stratégie de contenu précise. # Le P'tit Libé, publié entre 2015 et 2020, en est la preuve : pour se relancer avec peu de moyens, il est essentiel de concentrer ses moyens sur un seul domaine d'expertise. In this episode of Hacker Valley Studio podcast, Ron and Chris are joined by Chris Parker, creator of WhatIsMyIPAddress. His website now reaches six million monthly visitors and began as a necessity to solve a technical problem, which you can probably guess, determine his IP Address. WhatIsMyIPAddress predates Google and was often found through the search engine AltaVista. For years, the site was simple, straightforward and didn’t have any graphics or markup (HTML). At some point, Chris stumbled upon a Content Management System (CMS) called Geek Log but quickly learned with the amount of traffic that it was best for him to manually code each page on his website. For quite some time Chris maintained the website, answered questions from users about IP Addresses, and created more content without receiving any monetary compensation. The advent of Google AdSense led Chris to realize that he could make a profit for hosting his website. Chris’s website is in the top 3,000 websites on the Internet and was managed out of his home office for over 8 years. As you can imagine, he received traffic from users across the world and was even the target of some cybersecurity attacks. However, keeping the functionality on his website simple, the biggest threat Chris faced was Denial of Service (DoS). After moving his website from his home to a CDN provider that blocks malicious traffic and bots, Chris saw a 90% reduction in web traffic to his website. This led Chris down the path of creating content about security and configuration. With such a large audience, Chris decided to start the Easy Pray podcast and help listeners learn how to avoid becoming easy targets for scammers and fraudsters online and in the real world. Chris recalls a story of a fraud group that scammed victims by telling the victim that they’ve won the lottery in their country but are unable to withdraw the winnings because of citizenship. This scam is not uncommon and has caused hopeful individuals to lose thousands and sometimes their entire life savings. Some talking points:   Recruitment marketing Tech Stack We leverage: Phenom People for: our careers website, Content Management System (CMS), Candidate Relationship Management (CRM), Chatbot, and Talent Analytics  For our blog, we utilize it as a gateway for storytelling on LinkedIn - we keep our copy/stories short on LinkedIn, and usually provide a link to a blog post on our careers site to tell the full story, which gets users in our "ecosystem" - i.e. closer to applying. We also feature blog content in certain places across our careers site. For example, we have a Sales Development Associate program - we uploaded an "FAQ" blog for the role, and link to the article on the Sales Development Associate job posting page. LinkedIn for: employer brand awareness, as well as analytics and competitive insights into our performance against competitors Adobe Spark for: easy graphic design for employer branding content Phenom stats...     Empl experience...Employer Branding in times of COVID-19 Keeping new hires engaged whilst we’re not in the office is a challenge many organizations are facing. We were particularly concerned about our interns – who were all coming into our internship program entirely remote. This summer was the inaugural launch of our formalized internship program, so it was critical that we not only educate about our business, but also embody our ‘at your side’ philosophy wherever possible. So leading up to the interns’ first day, we sent them a series of emails. Each email introduced the intern to a new person: the head of recruiting, the hiring manager, two generalists, and our company President. Each email had the person’s headshot, a personal message, information about our business and culture, and a personal, favorite “Brother” moment from the sender. Example: Finding ways to make your brand more human can help your company stand out in the competitive talent space. We have a chatbot on our careers site named Ays (short for At your side), and depending on the questions you ask, you may get a cheeky response. If you ask “Are you a human?” the chatbot will say it doesn’t like labels except if they are coming from a Brother P-Touch labelmaker, or if you ask a question it does not understand it will say “I seem to have run out of ink on this one – try rephrasing your question” Optimizing social media content to get important messages across Example: Our Black Lives Matter post, which took advantage of LinkedIn’s new swiping graphic capabilities with PDF documents. The post generated a 23% engagement rate, and received special recognition. How often do you post on social media? The value of Job Board Programmatic Advertising In the past, we would drop a lump sum of money to sponsor on a per job, per job board basis. Now, we strategically sponsor our jobs across a variety of job board networks, boosting spend to jobs that are performing well, and reducing spend to jobs that are performing poorly. Within just under a month of launch, the paid traffic from programmatic was 69% vs. 31% for organic. Years ago, we abolished Ziprecruiter as a job board channel, and now it is our #1 job board channel. Leveraging employee networks to amplify your talent brand and encourage referrals Example: Most promotions at Brother happen in July, and for the past 3 years we have provided custom graphics to people managers with promoted employees, encouraging them to share with their LinkedIn networks. This year, nearly half of eligible people managers participated, driving a 400+% increase in reactions and a 1,000+% increase in comments. July became our 2nd best month in the rolling calendar year for LinkedIn home page views, and our best month for unique visitors to our About and People pages as a result. Example: We all know referrals are great sources of hire for various reasons (low cost, and usually high performers) and user time on social platforms, particularly LinkedIn, has increased significantly amidst the pandemic. In competing for eyeballs, you want to stand out as much as you can. We recently created a social graphic and messaging that hiring managers and other employees can use to promote open roles to their networks. The image can be set as the OG image on our job posting pages, so that the link preview on social platforms will be hyper-customized. We also took advantage of utilizing emojis and Unicode text to further emphasize and stand-out. What’s in the pipeline/what are you working on that you are excited for? Julio Leal is the Head of Localization at Ciena, a global leader in telecommunication networking systems, services and software. Originally founded in 1992 and headquartered in Maryland, U.S.A., Ciena now has over 65 offices around the globe, and about 6500 employees in more than 35 different countries. It has been described as the “world's biggest player in optical connectivity”, and its customers include the likes of AT&T, Comcast, Rogers, Bell, Telus, Verizon, Telmex, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Korea Telecom, Rakuten, Sprint Corporation, and many more. With a degree in Translation & Interpreting from the University of Granada, Julio started out his career in 1999 on the vendor side of the language industry. After working for a number of different translation companies, he moved to the client side in 2007, when he became an in-house Production and Localization Manager at SAP. In 2010, he took on his current role at Ciena, and has been leading the company's localization efforts from his remote office in Málaga ever since. In parallel with his work at Ciena, Julio has gone on to obtain a degree in Web Globalization Management from Saint Louis University, a degree in Global Marketing from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and, most recently, an MBA. He also contributes to industry publications and speaks at industry events. I had a chance to catch his excellent presentation on the topic of B2B video localization at the June 2020 virtual edition of the Brand2Global Conference. The amount of emails I get about it are so numerous (about two to three per week now) that I though it best to just write a public post about it. This website is built using a Content Management System (CMS) called Ghost. Examples of other CMS include Wordpress and Squarespace. I've been using Ghost since 2016 and chose it over these other options due to how lightweight and simple its admin interface is as well as the coding language it's written in. I find Wordpress, which I still use elsewhere on a daily basis, is bloated, written in an old coding language and actively depends on third-party plugins to be functionally useful. Like Wordpress, Ghost is open source meaning you can host it yourself it on platforms like DigitalOcean, AWS, and Heroku from as little as $5 USD per month. The majority of other options, including Squarespace, are proprietary; you rely on them to host your website and, as you'll discover if you try to move away from the service, have next to no control over your data. I host my instance of Ghost on Ghost(Pro), the service provided by the very people that make Ghost, for $29 USD/mo, paid annually. Sure, I have the technical know-how to make Ghost work on platforms like DigitalOcean but I'm lazy and the option to reach out to their incredibly responsive support staff is worth every cent. Ghost does everything I need it to including handling memberships. My only gripe with Ghost as a CMS is the lack of a decent mobile editor. The admin interface just doesn't work well on smaller screens. Ghost uses Handlebars for theme design. It looks like regular HTML with special lines that pull data from the CMS. A good knowledge of HTML and CSS is mandatory for theme design but you can pick up Handlebars very easily by reading Ghost's comprehensive theme documentation. If you're using Ghost(Pro), knowledge of these basic things is really all that's required to build a stellar, custom website like mine. Otherwise, you'll need to know what a command line interface is and how to use it. Ghost provides a default theme free-of-charge so that you can get started straight away and even lets you download the theme to tweak yourself. There are also countless marketplaces for Ghost themes and any freelance developer worth their salt should be able to build a custom theme for Ghost without any difficulty. If you're after a custom Ghost theme, get in touch with me and I might be able to help you out. The theme I use on adamstoner.com is custom made by myself. It's incredibly minimal and modular, allowing me to change anything I want quickly without having to open a bunch of files. When it comes to design, Ghost has a lovely ‘set it and forget it' approach. Content is king in the admin interface and you needn't worry about a bunch of annoying and often unnecessary fields getting in the way of publishing it. I often find publishing things on other CMS' feels like a form filling exercise rather than a creative one. That covers the basics. Of course, there are optional extras, all of which stem from your personal ethos and design preferences rather than necessity. This website contains CSS to make the user experience as comfortable as possible, catering for those that use both light and dark mode user interfaces on their devices. It also uses one or two simple colours in very clear ways in order to attract attention and prompt action. Remember, the internet is still slow and expensive for the majority of people in the world. Every byte counts. Nothing is faster than the lack of something which is why there are no webfonts, no icons, no advertisements and certainly no social media tracking beacons on this website. The intention behind all of these choices is to ensure that adamstoner.com loads as fast as possible on almost every device around the world. And it works – this very page weighs a meagre 15kb and loads in less than 1/5th of a second – which is probably why so many people ask how it's made. Now you know!

Das Backend erreichst du über eine spezielle URL und du musst dich hier mit deinem Benutzernamen und Passwort einloggen. In dem WordPress Backend kannst du dann alle deine Inhalte verwalten. Das ganze unterteilt sich dann nochmal in verschiedene Bereiche (Seiten, Beiträge, Mediathek, Themes, Menüs, etc.). Themes legen das Design bzw. Styling / Layout der Website fest. Hier gibt es die Möglichkeit Themes zu kaufen oder kostenlose Themes zu installiern. Diese legen dann das Design deiner Website fest, also in den meisten Fällen den Aufbau der Website, sowie Schriftart, Schriftgröße und Farben der Website. Diese kannst du in den meisten Fällen über den Customizer bearbeiten, allerdings seltenst den Aufbau der Website verändern ohne in den PHP Vorlagen etwas verändern zu müssen, was doch etwas komplizierter ist. Was ist das Divi Theme genau? Eben so ein Theme ist auch Divi, allerdings unterscheidet es sich deutlich von den typischen Themes auf dem Markt. Der Hauptunterschied ist der Visual Page Builder. Hinter Divi steht Elegant Themes, ein Unternehmen aus den USA, das darauf bedacht ist, das Divi Theme ständig zu verbessern, neue Funktionen hinzuzufügen und die Sicherheit zu gewährleisten. Außerdem gibt es zusätzliche Extras die bei Divi inklusive sind. Elegant Themes bietet kostenlose vorgefertige Layouts für fast jede Art von Website und Branche an, die von einem Ex-Google Designer entwickelt werden. Dies ermöglich auch bei wenig Budget oder geringem Zeitrahmen, höchstprofessionelle Websites. Eine weitere nennenswerte Funktion ist das A/B-Split-Testing. Hierbei kann man für ein Modul zwei Designs entwickeln. Zum Beispiel einen Button in unterschiedlichen Farben. Die eine Farbe wird dann einer Hälfte der Website-Besucher angezeigt und die andere Farbe der anderen Hälfte der Website-Besucher. Damit kann man analysieren, welcher Button häufiger geklickt wird und somit in vielen Bereichen die Conversions einer Website erhöhen und optimieren. Zudem bietet Elegant Themes kostenlose Plugins an. Ein Plugin nennt sich Bloom und damit kann man verschiedene Popups für Newsletter-Anmeldungen entwickeln, die entweder durch Klick auf einen Button oder Link erscheinen sollen oder nach einer festgelegten Zeit. Das andere Plugin ist Monarch. Damit kann man eine Social-Sharing Funktion hinzufügen, die es dem Besucher ermöglicht eine Seite, Beitrag oder Produkt auf Social Media zu teilen... Creative tools Adobe Creative Cloud Ask any creative what software is imperative to their work and Adobe Creative Cloud will be top of their list, period. There's not much worth quibbling about here – everyone uses these tools and for good reason: they're brilliant. I predominantly use Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. Avid Pro Tools Pro Tools is an advanced, industry standard audio editing software. If you're proficient in Pro Tools you're probably proficient in anything. Pro Tools is what I trained with throughout my Radio Production degree and what I continue to use almost six years later. I edit my podcast and lots of audio for a range of people using it! Codepen Codepen is a playground for building and testing front-end code. It supports HTML, CSS, and Javascript and has supported the development of pretty much all of the web projects I've made. It's a great way to get something down, play with it, and see changes in realtime. Standard Notes Standard Notes is a multi-platform, end-to-end encrypted, zero-knowledge, cloud-hosted note taking app. If you're confused by what half of those things mean, read my 2019 post titled ‘Encryption, security, privacy' at /security. Standard Notes is my digital notebook — a bit like Evernote, Bear, or OneNote — but nobody other than me can read it. As well as day-to-day thoughts, it's also where I keep track of budgets and invoicing for freelance clients, and where I keep my personal journal. It's also where I wrote this blog post before sharing it via the next item on this list… Ghost Ghost is the open-source Content Management System (CMS) developed and maintained by the not-for-profit, can't-be-sold Ghost Foundation. It's what this website is entirely powered by. They host it for just $36 a month. It's a powerful alternative to Wordpress without the bloatware, plugins, or godforsaken PHP. Podcast.co I've used many podcast providers in my time but Podcast.co beat the rest. They don't offer some of the more powerful features that enterprise giants like Omny Studio have – things like dynamic ad insertion – but Podcast.co does do everything a personal podcaster needs, with fantastic support staff and a gorgeous interface to boot. File management tools Dropshare Dropshare is an unsung hero. I use Dropshare to share files among friends and freelance clients. It's the final link (quite literally) in getting my paid-for creations to the people who need to see them. It's a great replacement for WeTransfer (hosted on platforms you control) with support for custom URLs, personal landing pages, and simple security features. CloudMounter CloudMounter is a great app for using cloud based services as if they were external hard drives. I use it for Dropbox, Backblaze B2, and Google Drive. It's great for managing client assets and for saving back-ups of your work to the cloud. Backblaze On the subject of back-ups, you better have some. Backblaze is a one-click solution for entire computer backups. It indiscriminately uploads everything from your machine to the cloud with support for one-year version history and more. It's a good belt-and-braces approach to keeping your files safe. I use Backblaze B2, their low-cost cloud archive option, to keep and store files I'm finished with. Time and project management tools Mail Yeah, Apple's default email client. I just want something to send and read messages and Mail is that thing. Stop overthinking email. Actions and Timepage I've used nearly every to-do list app there is and Actions, built by Moleskine Studio, is the best. Timepage is their calendar app. I use both to track my time and manage both personal and work projects. Vitally, they work seamlessly with each other and I can access Actions on my desktop. Reflecting On Your Learnings In Sales   You are as only as good as your last sale is harsh but true as a synopsis of our sales life.  Bosses are not interested in what you did last year, because that is history, done and dusted.  They are focused on this year's numbers.  They got their big commissions, bonuses, promotions, their five star holiday with the family.  They are looking at you for a bigger number this year.  You might be thinking just how you are going to pony up that bigger number, when getting last year's number was a herculean effort.   We tend to be like sales locusts.  We swarm in, eat everything we can find and then move on to find the next meal.  The reflective salesperson is a rare bird because the pressure is always forward facing.  “Don't tell me about yesterday. Show me what you can do for me today” is the driving philosophy and we tend to get sucked into that vortex.  This translates into forward momentum without allowing us time to ruminate and reflect on lessons learnt throughout the year.    Take some time for yourself and go back and visit the deals.  This means the ones won and those lost.  The records on those lost can often be scanty, because we tend to lick our wounds on the move, as we are off to secure the next deal.  You may have a strong regime of record keeping within your Content Management System (CMS) or you may be like a lot of salespeople and hate the CMS. You see entering a bunch of stuff in the CMS as a massive waste of your valuable time, when you could be talking to clients.   Hopefully, you at least kept some notes of your meeting discussions with the clients?  Whether you were a good boy or girl and kept the CMS up to date or you were a rebel and just kept you own notes, you will have a record to consult.  If you are reading this and you have nothing, then what the hell are you thinking?  Start keeping detailed notes of all sale's meetings, so that you can be sure you are clear what the client wants and what is the next step.   Assuming you are not totally crazy and have some records, make some time to go back and consult them.  This should not be some casual review of Caesar's triumphs.  Make it more specific than that.  Analyse the notes by looking for some things that went well and areas where improvements could be made.  The better organised among us will have ensured that immediately after the meeting, they could review their notes, make the writing legible, flesh out some key things they didn't have a chance to write down and add their thoughts.  Those thoughts should also include an analysis of what went well and what needs to be worked on to do better next time.  This is the best time to do that.  Everything is fresh in our mind and it allows us to grab the gains immediately and apply them to the next meeting, which might be in the next thirty minutes.   If you are reviewing your sales calls over the year, with this type of insight, then the whole exercise becomes that much more pointed and valuable.  This would be ideal but even if your were not so well prepared, then make a commitment to change your ways and become better organised in the next year.  Take the notes you do have and look for patterns.   Where did the client originate from?  Did you identify the client or did your organisation generate the client as a lead for you?  What was the client's problem?  Is there a commonality in play here, where this problem may be a trend or is it just contained within this particular company?  What was the reaction to your pricing.  Did they think it was expensive or reasonable.  Did you supply more than one solution?  Was there a chance to spider out into other parts of the organisation and help them with their problems?  Did the person you were dealing with get moved and the replacement prove to be a pain and not helpful?  Did you make a note to wait for their replacement to reconnect with that company and try again or did it just fade out and disappear from your mind?    There is so much rich material in the review process, but we miss it, because we are so busy and constantly moving.  We need to organise time to review each month what happened and then gather it all up and take an annual view of the what happened.  Time spent in this activity will set us up well for the new year.
