In this podcast episode, Vicky Townsend gives a presentation as part of LPF's Divorce Summit. Vicky is is the President and founder of Divorce Right, a professional development and employee assistance program company. Vicky is also the co-founder of the National Association of Divorce Professionals, an association for all the licensed professionals that work with clients before, during, and after divorce. Vicky has worked for years in the divorce industry, but also knows first hand how painful and frustrating the divorce process is. After going through it herself in 2013, Vicky experienced a labyrinthe system that is costly, filled with errors and difficult to navigate. Realizing there needs to be radical change to improve a broken family law system, Vicky decided to revolutionize the divorce process by founding Divorce Right. Divorce Right caters to Fortune 1000 companies and government agencies to help their employees through this grueling process.   Vicky's presentation centers on divorce as a challenging and often overwhelming process that can have a significant impact on individuals and their families. However, it is not just a personal crisis; it also affects the workplace and can cost companies billions of dollars each year. Divorce Right aims to make the divorce process easier on families and mitigate its impact on the workplace. Townsend highlights the staggering cost of divorce to companies, which can reach up to $150 billion annually according to a study by the Harvard Business Review. This cost includes lost productivity, decreased effectiveness, and increased employee turnover. Divorce Right offers products and services to support employees going through divorce, including specialized divorce coaches and divorce awareness and sensitivity training for HR managers.   Townsend also highlights the importance of considering the impact of divorce on employees when making decisions. More than 50% of employees will go through a divorce during their careers, primarily between the ages of 35 and 54. These are often the employees in upper and middle management positions who are on a trajectory for career advancement. However, divorce can diminish their productivity and effectiveness by about 40% for three to five years. This not only affects the individuals going through divorce but also impacts their coworkers, management, and the company's bottom line.   To address these challenges, Divorce Right offers divorce coaching, which is a flexible and goal-oriented process to support individuals going through divorce. Divorce coaches provide guidance, motivation, and assistance in making the best possible decisions for the future based on each individual's unique needs and concerns. This personalized approach helps individuals navigate the complex divorce process and find the support they need.   In addition to divorce coaching, Divorce Right offers a suite of digital divorce solutions called "Plan Right." This includes a book, a workbook, and a ten-hour video course that covers various aspects of divorce, from deciding if the marriage is truly over to understanding different divorce options. By providing comprehensive resources, Divorce Right empowers individuals to make informed decisions and navigate the divorce process more effectively.   Join Vicky Townsend on this episode of The Confident Retirement podcast as they delve deeper into divorce's impact on the workplace.   Here is what to expect on this week's show: •  Divorce Right's mission •  The mental health impact of divorce in the workplace •  Divorce's career impact •  Divorce Right's holistic approach to support •  The financial impact of divorce   Connect with Vicky Townsend: https://divorcerightinc.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. HER EMPOWERED DIVORCEHOST: Beverly Price, Divorce & Empowerment CoachGUEST: Vicky Townsend, President of Divorce Right Inc.SUMMARY:Our guest on this episode of Her Empowered Divorce is highlighting the terrible (and usually unnecessary) damage that contentious, drawn-out divorces inflict – on our bodies, our psyches and our financial futures. Vicky Townsend, president of Divorce Right Inc., shares with Host Beverly Price her passion for providing resources to avoid the kind of disturbing fallout reflected in the statistics. Divorced women are at higher risk of illness, poverty, bankruptcy and mental health issues. Their children, too, suffer from the stress. Financial Dignity® Coach Christine Luken's journey to a healthy financial relationship was no easy feat.   Bouncing checks, an ex with terrible money habits, and a poor credit score – she turned to her family for help. She worked her way out with a plan and quit her corporate job to help others with similar struggles.   Now, she's here to pass on her wisdom to you.   Tune in to this episode on How To Heal Your Relationship With Money with Christine Luken.   Key points covered in this episode:     ✔️Treat money as a person. Unlike your ex, you and money are together forever. It deserves your love and attention. Christine also suggests writing a letter to money to clear yourself of your negative feelings surrounding it. You and money should be on the same team.   ✔️Know your money story. It's the learned behaviors and attitudes towards money that you've picked up from others. It created an emotional weight around my divorce as I did asset division and signed papers. Divorce is a business transaction. And that's the reality.    ✔️Give yourself space to calm down. Often our emotions overpower our reasoning. Making sound financial decisions requires both logic and feelings. Your entire being must be holistically in good condition to avoid impulsive money choices.   ✔️Money represents freedom in options. It is a tool that provides, and it doesn't care how it's spent. Money can be used for evil. But it can also be given to someone in need. It's all about the energy that you choose to put around it.   ✔️Have a weekly money date. Spare some time in your calendar to go over your finances and assess your money health. You can even turn it into an enjoyable experience. Just like a real person, you need to date money to cultivate a good relationship.   ✔️You can still have fun with a healthy spending plan. On your path to financial freedom, you don't need to deprive yourself of the little pleasures of a good meal or a nice pair of shoes. Know where your money is going, and avoid too many restrictions.   Ready for money to support your happiness, rather than stress you out? This week on the show, I have Susan Shofer joining me. Susan Shofer is a two-decade agency-licensed private investigator with over 1,100 testifying hours. Ten years ago, while working as a private investigator, Susan became a certified divorce coach. Her area of expertise is high-conflict divorce with a specialty in parental alienation. Susan is a member of the Parental Alienation Study Group, comprised of the most prominent mental health clinicians and legal professionals in the parental alienation space. She is also the Director of the Baltimore /Annapolis/ DC/ Northern Virginia NADP (National Association of Divorce Professionals). Susan's passion and mission are to help people navigate through their high-conflict divorce using specific strategies unique to their cases. Her specialty is teaching targeted parents how to approach parental alienation with a true understanding of why it happens, how it must be litigated in court, and ways to effectively communicate with alienated children. In this episode we talked about: What parental alienation is and why it's the worst part of a high-conflict divorce. What parental alienation is NOT. How a parent may orchestrate parental alienation. The impact of parental alienation on the targeted parent and the children. How alienating parents are linked to often having personality disorders. Why the alienator alienates their child from their other parent. How parental alienation as a form of child abuse and domestic violence. How parental alienation can affect children. Susan's TedX talk experience and how it came about. How parental alienation can happen pre, during, and post-divorce or separation. How to move past parental alienation. How parents who are alienated are often seen as the ones who may have done something wrong, rather than being victims. And so much more! This is a topic that is close to my heart. it is so important and so tragic. I hope it helps you if you are suffering from going through this. Risky Business: Recommending Other Divorce Professionals to Clients

Bring on the haters, but we're gonna say it. We don't recommend attorneys or other divorce professionals to clients. And we think it's risky business for coaches to do it.In this week's episode, Tracy and Debra chat about the reasons they don't share lists of recommended professionals with clients. Aside from the fact that both of them work nationally and internationally, it's not a practice they employ with local clients either. The number one reason is because it takes away the client's agency. It strips them of the power to make their own divorce decisions. Coaching is about helping the client self-discover what they want and what they need, so why would choosing an attorney or a CDFA be any different?Often clients come to us feeling overwhelmed, uniformed, and anxious about what to do next. We add the most value to helping them explore their fears, prioritize their needs, and determine what information they need. If they decide they need some outside expertise, we can best support them by identifying the interview questions they need to ask to determine if a given professional is the best fit for them. Then after those interviews, we can process what they learned so they can make the right choice for themselves. One of the risks we run when recommending or referring is that we can't know who is fit for an individual client. Just because a previous client had a good experience doesn't mean that this client will. And if they don't? Now you're in the hot seat. And that's not good for your coaching relationship or your business.Your best bet is to stick with coaching rule #1 - Ask, Don't Tell.  Use your powerful questioning skills rather than giving your client a list. You'll be protected and it will serve your client better in the long run as they gain confidence to make their own decisions. You can learn more about DCA™ or find out about any of the classes or events mentioned in this episode at the links below:Website: www.divorcecoachesacademy.comInstagram: www.instagram.com/divorcecoachesacademyLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/divorce-coaches-academyEmail: DCA@divorcecoachesacademy.com

What is adult family mediation? Join us on this episode where we welcome guest Halee Burg, an Affiliate Mediator with Elder Decisions®, a division of Agreement Resources, LLC. Sometimes families get stuck. We can't agree and we don't know how to move forward. Adult family or elder mediation is an effective method of making difficult family decisions. Mediators are highly skilled, neutral, conflict resolution experts who do not provide advice or "take sides" but, instead, facilitate purposeful and directed conversations in which family members are encouraged to express their interests and concerns. Three key takeaways from this episode: First, mediation is one of the least adversarial methods to resolve disputes. It is a method of facilitated negotiation. There are other options, including arbitration and litigation, that leave the ultimate decision up to a third party. Second, the process may not be a quick one. It is a future-orientated, problem-solving process. While this method is designed to be short-term, it doesn't necessarily mean a resolution will come quickly. Third, mediation is not the same as therapy, but it can feel therapeutic. The goal of mediation is to come to a resolution with solutions and actionable plans for moving forward but the process itself often feels helpful and productive. Agreement Resources, LLC - Adult Family and Elder Mediation About Halee Burg: A former practicing attorney who now focuses solely on mediation, to give back and help ensure broader access to mediation, Halee participates in community and court mediations through a number of greater Boston community mediation programs. As an active member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, the Academy of Professional Family Mediators, the National Association of Divorce Professionals, and the New England Association for Conflict Resolution, Halee continually expands her knowledge of the field, regularly participates in dialogues with colleagues about best practices and approaches, and develops relationships with professionals in related fields whose expertise helps support clients as they work to make informed decisions. A graduate of the University of Rochester (BA, Psychology, summa cum laude) and the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley (J.D), Halee discovered she also enjoyed being on the other side of instruction, and regularly teaches adult education classes regarding divorce in Massachusetts. When not helping people become unstuck, Halee keeps busy pursuing her other passions – photographing beautiful landscapes, getting lost in a good novel, traveling, cooking, golfing, or spending special time with friends and family. In this episode, Rhonda welcomes Ilyssa Panitz, a Divorce Journalist and Columnist. According to Ilyssa, too many times women act on emotions, and then when faced with a barrage of questions about money, finances, marital residence, and expenses, they come up short by not having any of the answers. It is crucial, vital, and imperative that women do their homework before serving their husbands with divorce papers. Ilyssa's message for you today is: You are going to be OK. You are going to land on your feet. You are going to survive and thrive. Here are some of her recommendations: Preparation is everything. Keep your emotions in check. It is a very big transaction and you have to treat it as such. You have to know your facts. Investigate, investigate, investigate. Set a new email address, your own bank account, get your own credit card, check your vehicle for a tracking device, get off your social media, do not put anything regarding your matter on social media, get Life360 app for your children… Put a team together. Your lawyer should not be your accountant. Find 2-3 people you like and have them work together. The team you hire works for you. Contact Information and Other Resources Our guest today was Ilyssa Panitz. Ilyssa writes a daily column for Medium called: “5 Things You Need To Know to Survive and Thrive During and After a Divorce.”  Ilyssa serves as the Content/Editorial Producer for The National Association of Divorce Professionals. She is the Co-Host of “All Things Divorce” on Clubhouse, and the host of "The Divorce Hour with Ilyssa Panitz" on CRN (Cable Radio Network.) During her career, Ilyssa has worked at: CNN, MSNBC, 1010 WINS Radio in NY, WCBS-AM, New York-1 News, Westwood One, Star Magazine, Closer Magazine, Meredith Publishing and produced hundreds of Celebrity “At Home” photoshoots and sat-down with some of the biggest names in Hollywood for "exclusive" one-on-one interviews. Here's how Ilyssa describes herself: I love getting the scoop and telling people's stories, which is why I am passionate about my career and can't wait to tackle every new challenge! I am an accomplished journalist and field reporter/producer with over 24+ years of experience. My profession has allowed me to cover pivotal news and entertainment events including The September 11th attacks, The Tony Awards, The MTV Movie Awards, The 2012 Summer Olympic Games, and even travel with Hillary Clinton as part of her Senate Campaign's Listening Tour. During my time on the Hollywood beat, I have had the great honor of sitting down with many A-listers for an in-depth one-on-one discussion about their lives, the challenges they have had to overcome, and what motivates them to keep pushing forward. Every phone or in-person interview continues to provide me tremendous excitement. These precious moments are always a wonderful honor and a huge privilege.
