Your brain is not producing adequate amounts of neurotransmitters.   Neurotransmitters control your reality–your mood, memory, thinking and behavior.    And when your brain has what it needs, you naturally feel relaxed and alert, focused and positive–even happy.    But when your brain does not have what it needs, you get symptoms like anxiety, depression, anger and irritability, apathy, low energy and motivation, sleep problems and loss of memory, focus and attention.    An inadequate supply of neurotransmitters is why you have the urge to use substances like sugar, alcohol, caffeine and prescription medications to cope or compensate.   The good news is that nutrients you need are inexpensive and widely available. And clinical studies show that following simple nutritional protocols gives you FIVE TO ONE ODDS of overcoming substance use disorders.   In this episode, I give you a basic overview of the vitamins, minerals and amino acid supplements that can restore your sense of confidence and control.    —Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL if you're ready to fully commit to your personal growth and do the work to get emotionally sober. Josh Hix, the CEO of Season Health, has developed a food as medicine platform that combines registered dietitian services, food delivery, and medical nutrition therapy. This makes it easier for patients to access food benefits and eat healthier. The rise of GLP-1 agonist medications for weight management has highlighted the need to develop personalized nutrition plans to help patients maintain a healthy lifestyle. There is growing interest in food as medicine as it is increasingly recognized that improving nutrition can help prevent and manage many chronic health conditions.   Josh explains, "I think many people, if not most, do better with a GLP-1 and some form of medical nutrition therapy, dietician services, etc. We hear from a lot of folks that GLP-1 helps turn down the cravings and the food noise. While they're on the drug, whether that's for a month or a year, that's the best time to start to figure out how to eat better and to form some new habits, to eat more whole foods, to find things that they like in the absence of some of the cravings for more processed foods or otherwise. And start building habits around these new choices." "What we hear from a lot of people, both patients and doctors, is that many folks are not able to stay on GLP-1s for all that long. Sometimes, their insurance coverage is short, and the insurance company will only pay for a certain period of time. Sometimes, folks are non-responders. I'm not sure that there are more studies on seniors than others that don't respond to the drugs. Some people have side effects, and some don't want to be on them forever. So, the number that I've heard most frequently cited is that only about 25% of people who start on a GLP-1 are still on it a year later. So I think that it may turn out that these are very, very powerful interventions for a quarter of patients or so, but that many people need more. It's either GLP-1 and a lifestyle intervention, some other form of therapy, or just something altogether different." #SeasonHealth #FoodasMedicine #ChronicDiseases #Nutrition #NutritionTherapy #GLP1 #GLP1Agonist seasonhealth.com Download the transcript here

Her disease journey was definitely rocky and very impacted by substandard medical care. Like may people living with IBD, she was told that "diet doesn't matter" but after dealing with multiple flares, she found the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle that outlines the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and how it can be helpful for people with IBD. She decided to give it a try but found the recipes to be....less than exciting. She decided to put her culinary talents to work and started coming up with new recipes that followed the diet and than led her to decide to share her knowledge in her blog. We talked to her about following the SCD, how she creates the recipes, what she includes on her blog, and her favorite recipes. We also talked to her about her work with the nonprofit Nutrition Therapy for IBD and how she's been able to help them grown their recipe database, expand their social media, and much more. Finally we go on a rant about the medical system, steroids, and medical education. If you've listened to previous episodes, you know this is unsurprising. Welcome back to the NTI PodTalk Board Exam series! In Part Two, we are talking to Selina Rai, a graduate of both of our programs. Selina is in the process of preparing for the NANP Board Exam. Listen in as she and Dianne discuss the application process, study groups, and how being board certified will benefit her and her practice.  "Hi, I am Selina, founder of Ahara Kalpa- Holistic Wellness By Selina Rai LLC. I am a Nutrition Therapist Master, Natural Food Chef, Reiki Energy Healer, and Yoga and Mindfulness instructor, with an in-depth knowledge of the biology of yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda. My journey with Holistic Nutrition Therapy started as a search for solutions to my hormonal imbalances, PCOS pain, monthly PMS pain, hyperthyroidism, cystic acne, low energy, and hair loss. I knew early on that prescribed medications for my conditions were making my symptoms even worse. Then I started searching for information about holistic options. I came across Nutrition Therapy. As I started eating more whole foods, organic and pasture-raised foods, I slowly started feeling changes in my health. So I decided to go full-on board and joined the Nutrition Therapy Institute as a student. As I proceeded with the classes I practiced and applied what I learned to myself and my family. Now I am in my best health ever. In 2022, I earned my certification in holistic Nutrition Therapist Master (NTM), and Natural Food Chef (NFC) from the Nutrition Therapy Institute of Arvada, Colorado." Selina's Website Instagram **Timestamps for the topics discussed can be found on this episode's NTI PodTalk page. Are you ready to start your journey as a Nutrition Therapist Master or Natural Food Chef? To learn more about NTI's Nutrition Therapist Master Certification, visit ntischool.com for more information, or call 303-284-8361 to speak with our admissions team. This discussion is not intended to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy, nor in any way imply that Nutrition Therapists who graduate from NTI are qualified to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy.  The scope of practice for graduates of NTI is to deliver therapeutic nutrition guidance to our clients which helps support their natural biology to achieve optimal function in whatever wellness path they are on.

On this week's episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Diana Dugan Richards, a Nutrition Therapist with a private practice (Namaste Nutrition) in Watertown, MA.  As a registered, licensed dietitian for 25 years and nutrition therapist since 2011 and from a springboard of yoga and exercise philosophy, Diana offers nutrition counseling in a weight-neutral approach and sets a foundation of curiosity for clients to discover and shift into their own eating philosophy and beliefs. Diana is also a Certified IFS practitioner and combines her skills in IFS, Ayurveda nutrition, and yoga therapy to guide clients toward achieving integration and balance in their relationship with food.   In other words, she does things very differently than most dietitians!   Diana is a level 3 trained Certified IFS Practitioner and as you'll notice during our discussion, Diana approaches her clients with huge amounts of curiosity and compassion, allowing them to explore the parts of them that are using food in various ways.  Diana also talks about what she calls the "erroneous beliefs" that we've all learned from diet culture.  She gives the example of, "If you're really hungry, the apple looks good."  "When there's a shouldn't we hear inside, there's always a should." Other points that we discuss: The prevalence of polarities within peoples' systems.   Cultural body ideals and how body diversity "has been with us for centuries" Why Intuitive Eating and/or Health at Every Size doesn't work for everyone The importance of listening to your body and how Diana works with clients to notice the parts of them that aren't noticing their body's cues And yes, we talk a little about weight loss and how focusing on that often backfires for people.  Diana is incredibly knowledgeable, open, and curious, and I'm so thankful for the work that she's doing.  Take a listen! A little bit about Gayatri: Gayatri Saldivar, MS, RDN, CLT, IFNCP is an expert in the art and science of lab-based protocol design to help clients achieve whole-body wellness. Integrating the Kalish method and the science of nutritional genomics into her work, she named her practice 23 Nutrition Therapy. She is certified in Lifestyle Eating And Performance (LEAP) therapy and customizes anti-inflammation and elimination diets.  In this episode, she emphasizes the gut hormone detox connection and how it can lead to symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, anxiety, sleep issues, and gut problems. Saldivar shares her approach of comprehensive root cause analysis and testing to help clients rebalance stress hormones, heal the gut lining, and support detoxification for sustainable wellness. The episode also explores various testing methods, including gut testing, hormone testing, conventional lab work, and micronutrient testing, as well as the significance of personalized nutrition and lifestyle changes. Practical tips are provided to support gut healing, hormone balance, and detox pathways, while debunking diet misconceptions. Key Points:  • Comprehensive testing is crucial in identifying imbalances in stress hormones, gut health, and detoxification.  • Correcting the gut hormone detox connection in the right order can lead to significant progress in healing and overall well-being. • Detox pathways are evaluated, with a specific emphasis on liver function and glutathione levels. • A clear and structured plan is developed to address specific concerns in a phased approach. • Misconceptions exist on both extremes: thinking diet alone can solve everything or dismissing diet as unrelated to health problems. • Struggling with gut breakdown due to a poor diet but still wanting to consume trigger foods or drinks creates a disconnect. • Quick wins for gut, hormone, and detox health include focusing on chewing food properly and ensuring adequate protein intake.   Whether you're looking to enhance your understanding of your own health or seeking guidance to support others on their health journey, this episode has something for everyone. On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Kate Kavanaugh.Kate Kavanaugh is an entrepreneur, farmer, butcher, nutrition therapist, and host of the Mind, Body, and Soil Podcast. She saw firsthand the power of meat to heal her own body, and in seeking out farmers and ranchers raising meat, she found the power of meat to heal land, too. In 2013, she opened Western Daughters Butcher Shop in Denver, Colorado, with her now-husband, Josh Curtiss, where they source grass-fed and pasture-raised whole animals from local regenerative farmers and ranchers. Kate is now the host of the Mind, Body, and Soil podcast, where she is devoted to digging in deep with guests to find the heart of connection and what it means to lay the groundwork for generations to come. She is a citizen soil nerd, avid reader, and ground meat's biggest fangirl.
