It's easy for us to assume you want a more successful firm. You also probably want a more enjoyable place to work. I guess the big question is, which comes first – a more enjoyable firm or a more successful, more profitable firm? On this Humanise The Numbers podcast with the Managing Partner of UHY Hacker Young in London and Nottingham, Subarna Banerjee, you'll hear Subarna dive deep into his team-first approach – an approach that's led to the commercial results that they've enjoyed in recent times. You'll also hear about his deep commitment to a core purpose and a set of values that aren't just corporate wall art, aren't just corporate BS, but real, alive and making a difference for his team and, at the same time, informing their decisions around their customers. If you're seeking out ways and means of building a more successful firm, consider checking out what Subarna has to say about a team-first approach, as opposed to one that is commercial-first, and see how, if you do that in an authentic way, you can build a more successful firm. Parents Defending Education's new report, “Little Red Classrooms,” offers some worrisome information about China's reach in U.S. K-12 schools through so-called Confucius Classrooms. The report notes that Parents Defending Education “uncovered contracts that show Confucius Classrooms, or other Chinese government-backed programming, are still in operation” in a number of schools throughout the U.S., including Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma. “On July 11, 2022, the Tulsa Public Schools board of education approved entering into an agreement with the Confucius Classroom Coordination Offices, which [operate] out of the International Leadership of Texas Global nonprofit,” the report says. “The Chinese International Education Foundation would cover the cost of the program. Carver Middle School offers students a ‘Confucius Connection' through its ‘Global Awareness' programming.”Ryan Walters, Oklahoma state superintendent of public instruction, says, “What we did is, we — immediately upon finding this out — we have required the district to turn over any contracts, any curriculum, anything that's been handed out through this course.”“So, we are actively compiling that from the district right now to do a deep dive into, ‘Hey, what was the Chinese government trying to get in this classroom? What were the teachers discussing in these classes?'” Walters says, adding:So that's what we've required of the district right now. So, we are going to be looking for that information to have a better understanding of what was being funneled into these classrooms.Walters joins today's episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss the Parents Defending Education report, whether he has spoken with any teachers, parents, or students at Tulsa's Carver Middle School, and Tulsa Public Schools' response to his Twitter video, “China will not be allowed in Oklahoma schools.” Hosted on Acast. Dr. Sandie Morgan is joined by Kelsey Syms as the two discuss R.E.A.L. Friends Don't and its importance in educating youth and parents and caregivers about online dangers. Kelsey Syms Kelsey Syms is the program manager for the Combating Human Trafficking program at the McCain Institute for International Leadership. She has a master's in Applied Leadership and Management and a bachelor's in Political Science. She's been with the McCain Institute, based in Washington D.C., since 2018. Key Points A recent survey by the McCain Institute found that parents and teen on't talk about sexting and online dangers. It's important that the talk between parents and teens about sexting and online dangers fulfill the stop, drop and roll method, meaning that it is a repetitive practice, not just a box that is being crossed off. Many parents often avoid difficult conversations like the one about online dangers, because they fear they are exposing their child to mature subjects at too early an age. However, R.E.A.L. Friends Don't provides a toolkit that gives parents tips on conversation starters. R.E.A.L. Friends Don't is focused on educating young people about the ways in which predators use social media to target vulnerable groups. Kelsey Syms 1:20 Thank you so much, Dr. Morgan. It's a pleasure to be here. Sandra Morgan 1:24 I'd like to know a little bit first about, what is the McCain institute? Kelsey Syms 1:29 The McCain Institute is an action tank. We are a part of Arizona State University based in Washington, DC and we work on a whole host of issues ranging from democracy, human rights, preventing targeted violence, leadership programs, and combating human trafficking. Sandra Morgan 1:55 I love that and you've actually been with the McCain institute combating human trafficking for five years now. Is that right? Kelsey Syms 2:05 That's correct, I have. I joined the institute. I spent an internship with the Department of Justice in their child exploitation and obscenity section, and shortly thereafter joined the McCain Institute's combating human trafficking program, and have really enjoyed the thorough and impactful work that we've been doing, and really see a lot of opportunity ahead for us. Sandra Morgan 2:29 So I think it's important when we do our show notes, we'll put a link to the McCain institute. Our guest today is Steve Goss. Steve is the president of Freedom in Christ International and oversees the work of Freedom in Christ around the world. He also wrote one of our core discipleship resources called The Freedom in Christ Course. But before all of this, Steve was a successful businessman who served in his local church. One day, his pastor asked him to disciple a couple in their church who were struggling. Week after week, Steve went through the material with them but with little real progress. The couple was really trying to grasp hold of God's truth, but they just couldn't. Shortly after that, Steve picked up a copy of the book The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson at a Christian bookstore. With the help of his pastor, he took the couple through the prayer and repentance process at the back of the book called The Steps to Freedom in Christ. The couple was dramatically changed, and Steve began teaching the material to others in the church too. What he found was that the so-called “good Christians” also started changing and gaining a new zeal for the Lord. This was the beginning of a new calling for Steve which led him to open a Freedom in Christ UK office, write the Freedom in Christ Course, and eventually take over leadership of the international ministry 10 years ago. Today, he is passionate about getting the message and materials of Freedom in Christ into the hands of pastors and church leaders around the world. As Steve himself said, “We all need real freedom in Christ.” EPISODE LINKS: For more information about TRANSFORM, our 8-month program for leaders, and to apply: https://www.ficm.org/leaders/transform-spring-2023/. Despite predictions of a swift victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian forces continue to inspire the world as they hold their ground and thwart Russian invasion forces. Since the launch of its attack on Ukraine in February, the Russian military has faced heavy resistance and a growing number of casualties—NATO estimates that up to 40,000 Russian troops have been killed, injured, captured, or gone missing during the first month of the conflict. With its strategic position weakening, Moscow announced this week that it would “dramatically” scale back its military activities around Kyiv. However, Russian forces still pose a significant threat to the capital, and despite continued pleas from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the West has been reluctant to increase its support or provide Ukraine with the fighter aircraft it needs to defend its skies. Ambassador Kurt Volker joined Marc and Dany to discuss the ramifications of Russia's inevitable defeat in Ukraine, the Biden administration's handling of the crisis, and the future of Ukraine. Ambassador Volker is a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis and is currently Managing Director, International, and Co-Chair of the Advisory Board at BGR Group. He served as US Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations from 2017 to 2019 and as US Ambassador to NATO from 2008 to 2009. He is also President and Founder of Alliance Strategic Advisors, LLC, and from 2012 to 2019, he was the founding Executive Director of The McCain Institute for International Leadership. https://www.aei.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/FINAL-Volker-Transcript-3.30.22.pdf (Download the transcript here.)

The art of the Faith — i fiori della Fede— in places of the Faith -- nei luoghi della Fede — are visible prayers. They are to be meditated upon in the manner of a ‘lectio divina', rather a ‘visio divina', and not as mere “pictures at an exhibition”. In this talk, Professor Emeritus Norman Farmer will discuss beauty, faith, and the time they both require. Supplementary materials recommend for this conversation include Dietrich von Hildebrand's "Beauty in the Light of Redemption" as well as some familiarity with St. Francis' of Assisi's "The Canticle of Brother Sun." When people think of violent extremists, they tend to think groups like Al-Qaeda, ISIS, or other international terrorist organizations. But the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has actually called white supremacist extremists“the most persistent and lethal threat” here in America. In fact, those groups perpetrated two thirds of the attacks and plots in the US in 2019 and over 90 percent in the first 6 months of 2020. To address this issue, the Center for American Progress and the McCain Institute for International Leadership have developed a comprehensive national strategy for tackling white supremacist violence. It's a bipartisan plan based on consensus policies that unite our political parties. Our guest Simon Clark is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, and he walks us through how to fight this threat.

While last week's episode was one of those chats you know I love that show a different side of someone you've probably already heard of, I equally love introducing you to people and stories you might not already know. And while sometimes, that's because our guest is early on in their journey or in a niche, behind the scenes area, for Farah Mohamed it's more the opposite playing on a global, life-changing scale beyond most of our day to day lives. We met during our incredible trip to Necker Island with Business Chicks last year where I first heard her story and was absolutely captivated by her every word as I'm sure you'll be. You don't often expect the guest speaker to then sit down with you for a chat afterwards, but Farah is humble and attentive in a way that belies the incredible way she is shaping our world for the better. She is interesting in so many ways from her own experience as a Ugandan refugee of Indian heritage and Muslim faith who fled to Canada in early life to serving as CEO of the Malala Fund, inspired by Malala Yousafzai, who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban for going to school and became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. And she LOVES to laugh which left us in stitches many times in a beautiful, heart wrenching and warming blend of the serious and the silly. There's so much in between but I won't reveal any more here – hope you enjoy as much as I did. + Follow Farah Mohamed here + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY! >>> JOIN THE SEIZE THE YAY FB GROUP

As today's global economy becomes stronger, international executive positions are becoming more abundant, but not everyone has the leadership skills to achieve an international position, but among those that do, many are women. A woman at the helm of an international company brings diversity to the table, it can bring new ideas and insights but it can also be challenging for the women that take this path. Today the percentage of women sitting in international CEO positions varies only between 7-18%, depending on country. There is also a new trend for women not to take CEO positions, there a sudden death of female international CEOs while many women decide to “opt out” of these careers and take other paths. This episode will explore one women's journey to an international CEO position. She will talk to us about the opportunities and challenges she faced. She will talk about the attributes you need to become an international CEO no matter what gender you are.
