Welcome to another bonus episode! This was recorded back in September, a month after One Grand Party, celebrating the 1,000th episode of Odyssey. While Tatjana was away in Scotland, Emilee was in Colorado. I (Emilee) thought that rather than just sharing my experience with Tatjana, I might also share it with all of you! So, we sat down and recorded our conversation. You can check out photos from the event on our reddit.Stay tuned till the end to hear some interviews that were recorded after the show! Two Corrections: Emilee is not confident all songs sung by the barbershop quartet were in fact from the Odyssey Sings! album Emilee also does not know exactly the color or degree of sparkliness of Jess Harnell's outfit the day of the show, only that it was quite eye-catching and notable for its style. Thanks for listening! And remember, beware the time sponge.

In this episode of the Roald Dahl Retrospective, Patricia, Arun, and special guests Eli "The Hero of Tomorrow" Stone, Jim Bevan, and James "Jaimetud" Sullivan discuss about the 2017 direct to DVD animated film Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory based on the 1940 cartoon shorts and the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory which is an adaptation of the 1964 book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory starring J.P. Karliak, Lincoln Melcher, Jess Harnell, Sean Schemmel, Mick Wingert, Kate Higgins, Spike Brandt, and Kath Soucie. The movie features Tom and Jerry starving on the streets until a young boy named Charlie Bucket gives them a loaf of bread. To thank Charlie for his kindness, Tom and Jerry decide to get Charlie a Willy Wonka candy bar while a contest is happening where 5 golden tickets are hidden in Willy Wonka candy bars and whoever finds it, gets to go into Willy Wonka's candy factory. Tom and Jerry meet up with Slugworth, Willy Wonka's rival candy maker, Spike, Slugworth's assistant and a truck driver for Willy Wonka's factory, and Tuffy, an Oompa Loompa intern. When the movie premiered, it was bashed by critics and fans calling it an unnecessary adaption that is a copy-paste film of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Tom and Jerry in it as well as its bizarre animation. It was released one year after the passing of Gene Wilder which made the movie more of an insult to fans of the original 1971 adaptation. What do they think of the film? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support

Jess Harnell is the Rock N' Roll voice actor that can be heard in a plethora of animated films, shows and video games, but the absolute most legendary character that gets talked about the most is Wakko Warner from the series Animaniacs. Initially beginning in 1993, the series ran for 99 episodes (100, if you count Wakko's Wish) and has now been relaunched for 2020 on Hulu with all the original cast members including Tress McNeille, Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche. Official Synopsis: They’re back! The Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister Dot, have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. After returning to their beloved home, the Warner Bros. water tower, the siblings waste no time in causing chaos and comic confusion as they run loose through the studio, turning the world into their personal playground. Joining Yakko, Wakko and Dot, fan-favorite characters Pinky and the Brain also return to continue their quest for world domination. We spoke with Harnell about Animaniacs returning, if the new version counts to the original count rate for episodes of the first incarnation and how modern sensibilities still pay tribute to the classic version. Harnell spoke about how he developed his craft, his recent one year wedding anniversary, Rock N' Roll music, his band Rock Sugar and really how Animaniacs took well over two years to finally be completed in the version we see today on Hulu. Animaniacs, the 1993 verion and the 2020 run are both streaming now on Hulu. Follow Jess Harnell on Twitter @JessHarnell and on Instagram @jessharnell_. In 1993, no one knew that Tress MacNeille, Rob Paulsen and Jess Harnell would bring to life, the three characters of Yakko, Wakko and Dot in the as the Warner Bros. siblings and create a legacy that surpassed their initial 99 episode run. Tress MacNeille spoke with us about the return of The Animaniacs on their new home at Hulu, being the foundational series of the Kids WB line up in the early 1990s and how a show that lasted five seasons retained a 27 year legacy. MacNeille who was also the voice of Babs Bunny on Tiny Toons Adventures, which created the Kids WB line up, talks about here career, how Dot never went away because of all the conventions, table reads and sing-alongs at these events and remaining close friends with Paulsen, Harnell and Maurice LaMarche after all these years. We even discuss what story time in the MacNeille household looked like growing up, especially with her having a large family and how one of the greatest advantages of being a voice over artist and actor is that at some point you never have to grow older than 35. The Animaniacs return to the animation world and begins streaming on Hulu, today, Friday, November 2020. We learned stories about his work as the voice of Disneyland rides, his badass wardrobe, and his heavy metal band that has opened for AC/DC. Hello Nurse...it's time for THE NIGHT TIME SHOW!

Meta-Listeners: Our listeners chime in on meta-texts that really piqued their interests while Dan and Andrew chime in on those suggestions. Meta-Fiction: Andrew and Dan delve deep into the world of stories about stories, movies about movies, tv shows about tv shows, and games about games and ask what the heck do meta-narratives do? Hercules/Xena Meta-Episodes: Dan and Andrew spend the better part of an hour (or not) discussing a few episodes of these classic tv fantasy shows' use of meta-fiction for some fun one-off episodes...or not. Question of the Geek: Next week, we'll be discussing how despite the fact that the genre of the Western is relatively dead, it has been repurposed in nearly every other genre of fiction. So, with that in mind: What is your favorite Western-themed fiction (in any genre and in any medium)? Why? Or what is a western that you think has been particularly influential and needs more attention? Why? Leave your answer as a comment on the page for this episode at forall.libsyn.com.
