We are so excited about this episode! Courtney visits with Abi Dare. If you haven't read her book, check it out now. It is a powerful perspective for young girls finding their louding voice and place in this world. Abi talks about her inspiration and process in writing this book and heart behind it. We can't recommend this book enough!  Here's more about The Girl With The Louding Voice: The unforgettable, inspiring story of a teenage girl growing up in a rural Nigerian village who longs to get an education so that she can find her “louding voice” and speak up for herself, The Girl with the Louding Voice is a simultaneously heartbreaking and triumphant tale about the power of fighting for your dreams.  Despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in her path, Adunni never loses sight of her goal of escaping the life of poverty she was born into so that she can build the future she chooses for herself – and help other girls like her do the same.  Her spirited determination to find joy and hope in even the most difficult circumstances imaginable will “break your heart and then put it back together again” (Jenna Bush Hager on The Today Show) even as Adunni shows us how one courageous young girl can inspire us all to reach for our dreams…and maybe even change the world. Calling all book nerds! Are you looking for a place where your book-loving heart can flourish? Join us at jenhatmakerbookclub.com, and become one of our sisters in nerdiness. For May 2022, Jen and the club read Abi Dare's The Girl With The Louding Voice. Abi is originally from Lagos, Nigeria and went on to study law in the UK at the University of Wolverhampton and eventually earned her MA in Creative Writing at Birkbeck, University of London. Not only is she an incredible writer, she is also a major advocate for women's education. Her husband inspired her to write this book and it came about after discussing how they saw housemaids treated during their childhood. The Girl With The Louding Voice was a New York Times Bestseller, a #ReadWithJenna Today Show book club pick, and it was an Indie Next Pick. This story whipped up a ton of talk and for a good reason, it helps folks see the impact lack of education, opportunity, and freedom can have on young girls across the world. Hi. Welcome to the 7th Episode. I'm your host Noel Woodward and this is For The Love Of. For The Love Of The Page | Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam with Shreya Desai Shreya is an architect who loves consuming good food and literature. She's always been a book nerd but in the past couple of years couldn't make or find the the kind of time for it. This last year she's been been reading a bit too much and sleeping too little. Apart from that, Shreya has taken her passion one step further by starting a book related Instagram blog, called @Papergrammer which helped keep her reading in check as well as be a part of a reading community that she wasn't aware of. It has also exposed her to a diverse range of material that has been both fun as well as inspiring. As the title suggests, with this episode we dive right into Rumaan Alam's book that's been hailed favourably by critics and book lovers alike. The Page is a recurring segment, which I hope to build upon in the coming months.
