The Cramps, led by the husband and wife team of Lux Interior and Poison Ivy Rorschach, had one one mission: To save rock n' roll from the corporate monsters who threatened its destruction. The band blended rockabilly, blues, garage rock and the aesthetic of 1950s B-movies into a wholly unique and singular rock and roll concoction that set them apart from their punk contemporaries. But as they began their climb up the music industry's ladder of success, they encountered hordes of brainless zombies who didn't understand their music or their mission, swarms of radioactive bootlegging cockroaches, and a coven of blood-sucking vampires hellbent on destroying the only thing the Cramps held sacred: rock n' roll. To see the full list of contributors, see the show notes at www.disgracelandpod.com.

This Halloween we continue to howl at the moon with 5 more songs about those scary wolfmen (and wolfwomen)! We start the horrific cavalcade with "Rockin' Werewolf" by Robbie the Werewolf from 1964 (2:38). Just try and get the chorus of this fun strummin' folk number out of your head, but keep the crucifixes away while Robbie is rockin' ... wait, is that only for vampires? Our second song is a Shatnerian soliloquy on lycanthropic transformation: "Wolfman" by The Muleskinners (38:29). Listen in on your party line to the affecting monologue of a man trying to hold it together before he goes feral. The third terror is "I'm The Wolf Man", purportedly by Round Robin (1:03:47). The wolfman growls in this one have a distinctly Western flavour to them, but more importantly, there's FUZZ! And there's also FUZZ! in our fourth frightener, "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" by The Cramps (1:24:20). Lux Interior's psychobilly gasps, gross groans and blown gaskets make this tale of pubescent permutation abominally believable. The final act comes with the fifth song: "Killing the Wolfman" by The King Khan and BBQ Show (1:52:52). Weldon has some insider information on this tasty piece of twang, but the real question is ... will the Wolfman be resurrected in time for Halloween 2023? Stay tuned, Pastronauts ... (distant howls coming from the woods...)

Every Album Ever with Mike Mansour & Alex Volz

This week we're discussing every album by the Cramps. Led by husband and wife Lux Interior (vocals) and Poison Ivy (guitar), the Cramps had a style and aesthetic people still emulate to this day. Their songs, however, are about as predictable as a Harlem Globetrotters game. This is for fans of rockabilly, surf, and blues. If this isn't you, run far away.Closing track: “Fever” from Songs the Lord Taught Us (1980)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify!https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincJoin our Patreon to jump the line when requesting an artist, as well as get bonus episodes, early access to shows, and more!https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerch available now!https://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Instagram:Follow Mike @pandermonkey for show clips and original musicFollow Alex @motherpuncherMike's Picks:Songs the Lord Taught Us (1980) — Best AlbumStay Sick! All independent filmmakers and cult-flick fans must bow down to the low-rent majesty that is Timothy Agoglia Carey's "The World's Greatest Sinner." Shot over the course of three years in the downmarket sections of L.A., the movie tracks the journey of Clarence Hilliard (Carey), an insurance salesman who bugs out and starts his own political-spiritual movement. Clarence promises his followers that they can become God, or "superhuman beings," and soon takes to calling himself God Hilliard. He riles up the youth by spreading his message via spasmodic rockabilly (which made Lux Interior of the Cramps a fan of the film for life), flailing on his guitar and then yowling "Please, please, please, please...TAKE...MY...HAND!" as the crowd goes nuts. Maynard James Keenan, eat your heart out. This beautifully overwrought and seamy DIY masterpiece (John Cassavetes famously said it packed "the brilliance of Eisenstein") is, first and foremost, a glowing calling card for one of cinema's true sui generis animals. Carey may be familiar to Stanley Kubrick fans for his indelible turns in The Killing and Paths of Glory; he was a notorious scene-stealer and general wild man who inspired awe and revulsion in his directors and co-stars in roughly equal measure. In The World's Greatest Sinner he is front and center, the man, the force, dominating every frame and soaking the very celluloid with his passion and hipster strangeness. Laughing, weeping, bellowing, preaching, murmuring seductively to retired women and 14-year-old girls no matter what Carey does, he does it to the max. I've long suspected that Nicolas Cage took a long look at Carey's work before embarking on his own oddball career. Cosmetically, TWGS is a rise-and-fall piece about a man's hubris; at one point God Hilliard even sticks a pin in a host he nabbed from a church, leading to a great Carey rant: "BREAD! IT'S JUST BREAD! MOTHER! YOUR PRAYERS WERE FOR NOTHING!" What saves this from being a Jack T. Chick tract on film, though, is Carey's sardonic and defiantly off-kilter cascade of ideas and genuine command of mood and tone, despite the movie's lurching from goofball comedy to despairing tragedy. The scenes of God Hilliard conferring with his trusted assistants (one of whom is Satan) in shadowy rooms scoop The Godfather by a neat decade. Though the movie has been both reviled and lionized for its oddness, it's pretty mainstream compared to some of Carey's unrealized projects, like Tweet's Ladies of Pasadena, his intended follow-up to TWGS. The movie uses standard shots and narrative beats, but sneaks its anarchy in through a side door. Scored by a young Frank Zappa (who later churlishly called Carey's labor of love "the world's worst movie") and partially shot by future cult director Ray Dennis Steckler, TWGS may well be the epitome of psychotronic filmmaking. Since Carey died in 1994, his son Romeo has curated his memory and work, and the movie is available directly from Romeo's website (http://www.romeocarey.com) catch an incomparable actor in full effect (he wrote, directed, produced, and distributed the thing himself). I used to think that Charles Laughton's "Night of the Hunter" was the greatest example of an actor-turned-director who only directed one film. But Timothy Carey sure gives Laughten a run for his money.  https://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Greatest-Sinner-Timothy-Carey/dp/B009FIMWWM --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/romeo-carey/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/romeo-carey/support

Tav Falco in conversation with David Eastaugh Impressed by a 1978 performance of Falco's at The Orpheum in Memphis that culminated in the chainsawing of a guitar, Alex Chiltonteamed with him. They developed the self-styled "art damage" band, Tav Falco's Panther Burns. The group recorded a first album for Rough Trade at Ardent Studios in Memphis. Their previous 1980 session for the label at Phillips Recording was temporarily shelved (it was later re-released in 1992 on Marilyn Records as The Unreleased Sessions). Falco devoted some of his musical career highlighting great traditional artists who had not gained media attention. He introduced their work to his audiences and to writers following his work by performing Panther Burns shows on billings with these artists, recording interpretations of their songs, and occasionally collaborating with some of them on projects for small record labels he's been associated with, such as Au Go Go and New Rose. Among these artists were blueswoman Jessie Mae Hemphill and rockabilly pioneer Charlie Feathers. Falco and Lux Interior of The Cramps worked on the photography and liner notes, respectively, for the 1982 Honky Tonk Man album by Feathers. Both younger vocalists had been influenced by Feathers' energetic, hiccup-styled vocals of the 1950s. Falco has invited such musicians as Cordell Jackson, R. L. Burnside, Mose Vinson, and Van Zula Hunt to perform at this Panther Burns concerts. Falco has released numerous Panther Burns albums on small international indie labels. He also has co-released some recordings by his band and other Memphis-area artists on his own Frenzi label. Falco has appeared as an actor with small parts in films such as Great Balls of Fire! (1989 - USA), The Big Post Office Robbery (1992 - Hungary), Highway 61 (1991 - Canada), Downtown 81 (2001 - USA), and Wayne County Rambling (2002 - USA). Long a student of the tango under European and Argentine instructors, he appeared in Dans Le Rouge du Couchant (2003 - France) as a tango dancer, and choreographed his part in the film. He has appeared in several short films, most of which he produced and in some cases served as the filmmaker. These have been shown in underground arts venues such as The Horse Hospital in London. In 2003 six of Falco's short films were accepted and archived into the permanent collection of the Cinémathèque Française in Paris. The short films archived are Love's Last Warning(1996), Born Too Late (1993), Helene of Memphis (1991), Memphis Beat (1989), Shadetree Mechanic (1986), and 71 Salvage (1971). A selection of Falco's short films were shown in a retrospective at the Cinémathèque Française in 2006. His first feature film, Urania Descending, was announced in 2014, having been completed the prior year. Tav Falco has collaborated with Erik Morse, an American underground author, rock writer and journalist, on a two volume encyclopedic history and psychogeography of the city of Memphis, Tennessee, entitled MONDO MEMPHIS. Falco's book, Ghosts Behind The Sun/Mondo Memphis: Volume 1, is a study of Memphis beginning with the Civil War up to more recent autobiographical accounts set in the city. Morse's Bluff City Underground/Mondo Memphis: Volume 2 roman noir follows a West Coast graduate student and his encounters with a Memphis secret society. They were published by Creation Books; a paperback edition of Falco's volume was published in November 2011. Falco has said his main artistic purpose is "to stir up the dark waters of the unconscious." Falco has released more than nine album recordings.Conjurations was released in 2011 on a German label, Stag-O-Lee, and a French label, Bang! Records, followed by an American CD release on the Cosmodelic label in October 2011. A live album, Live In London, was released on Stag-O-Lee in 2012. In 2014, Falco compiled a double album of some of his favorite tracks from his music collection, Tav Falco's Wild & Exotic World of Musical Obscurities, released on Stag-o-Lee Records. The album set included a Panther Burns song, "Real Cool Trash", and liner notes by Falco. In 2015, Falco's first book of photography, a collection of images of the gothic South called Iconography of Chance: 99 Photographs of the Evanescent South, was published by Elsinore and distributed by University of Chicago Press. The same year, he toured with Panther Burns and released another album, Command Performance. Tav's most recent studio album is Cabaret of Daggers, released by ORG Music in November 2018.

Mike Ferguson, aka Mick Cancer of the Philly punk band The Sic Kidz is our guest. The Sick Kidz, the brainchild of Ferguson, were willed into existence as a literary prank come to life. The band can make their claim as being Philadelphia first punk band as that cultural revolution blew its shockwave out from New York City and across the globe. The Sick Kidz were fueled by Mike's deep love of music, being a witness to the birth of rock and roll in the 50s. to the counter-culture revolutions of the 60s, to the Southern pop of the 70s and the original punk wave as the 70s turned into the 80s. With the Sick Kidz, and his extravagantly theatrical alter ego Mick Cancer, Mike has turned a fan's love into a slow but steady stream of potently fun recordings with the bands Pink Slip Daddy, Das Yahoos and most recently the country punk of Dixy Blood where he has been re-dubbed “Clarence Cancer.” He's a longtime collaborator with popular producer and performer Ben Vaughn and Palmyra Delran of the NYC band The Friggs, and has shared intimate friendships with the late legends Alex Chilton and Lux Interior of The Cramps. We talk to Mike about his love and rock and roll and honky tonk music, the artists whose paths he crossed, his musical career and a couple of new projects coming our way.

Movie Meltdown - Episode 309 This week we return to the bastion to hang out and randomly pick a movie to watch... which turns out to be Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead. And while we find out just what it takes to be hermetically sealed, we also discuss... watching way too much Forensic Files, siphoning gas, tomahawk fighting, Freaks and Geeks, Cribs, sassy underpants, cut to her cervix, Karen Gillan, David Letterman, magically getting your arm ripped off, Lux Interior, another one to the head, tank issues, an unequivocal sex invite, ParanoiaCast, Jean-Claude Van Damme dancing, killing kids, super-zombie-Nazi-strength, Idle Hands, rabbit ears, stop it Lita... I don't want to see that, being Scottish, painfully unfunny, underbite, scrolling through streaming movies, Evil Dead, smacking the newspaper, Dr. Smith, Leif Garrett, Jim Carrey, Galaxy Quest, innards spooling out, bringing people back from the dead, Squidbillies, AC/DC, Shaun Cassidy, a weird-humany person, creating your own show-world, getting traction, Nazi leprechauns, tin cans... leaves... and garbage, Martin Starr, a librarian ponytail, swamp gator crocodiles dino gators, David Tennant, previously on, sidekick zombie, conventions about necrophilia, Top Gear, hanging your teen posters, Mystic Seer, getting the easy pass in horror movies, projectile vomit, something actually caught me off-guard... for once in a movie, fancy TV, Lita Ford, the most amazing hair I've ever seen, I have two kittens, all the powers of the undead, trying to break into tanks, Party Down, wacky zombie doctor, I like a good gratuitous head-bash as much as the next person, Metal Mania, millions and billions, Kickboxer, sex in the outhouse, wearing tight jeans, MeTV, Scorpions, forgetting how to run, Star Wars geek cop-out and ka-f*cking-boom.  Spoiler Alert: Plenty of spoilers are discussed for "Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead", so watch the movie before listening. You have been warned!  "...to me that's what makes it satisfying... a movie actually surprised me. And did something I did not see coming."
