Every 40 seconds, someone has a heart attack. Heart attacks are the leading cause of death worldwide, with 18 million people dying each year from cardiovascular disease. In this episode, we dive deep into the limitations of the standard lipid panel and explore why most doctors rely on it for prescribing statins. We discuss the importance of measuring the particles that transport cholesterol, such as Apo-B and LP(a), rather than just cholesterol levels. Additionally, we examine the impact of disruptors like mouthwash and antacid medication on nitric oxide production and arterial health. We also highlight the cardiovascular testing Victory offers for their patients, including Advanced Lipid Panels, MaxPulse, SphygmoCor, and Carotid Artery Scans. Tune in to learn more about how these advanced tests can provide a more comprehensive understanding of your cardiovascular health. Takeaways The standard lipid panel has limitations and may not provide a comprehensive analysis of cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk. Measuring the particles that transport cholesterol, such as Apo-B and LP(a), is important for predicting cardiovascular risk. The Boston Heart Lab panel offers a more advanced analysis of lipoproteins, oxidative stress, inflammation, and nitric oxide production. Lifestyle changes, including dietary modifications and nitric oxide support, can be effective alternatives to statins. The HeartSmart ultrasound scan provides information about arterial age and plaque buildup, helping to assess cardiovascular risk. The Max Pulse test measures arterial elasticity and can indicate the presence of arterial stiffness and dysfunction. Central aortic blood pressure measurement is important for evaluating cardiovascular health and guiding treatment decisions. Disruptors like mouthwash and antacid medication can negatively impact nitric oxide production and arterial health. The future of cardiovascular imaging holds promise for more precise assessment of plaque and improved treatment strategies. Reversing plaque buildup is possible through lifestyle changes, nitric oxide promotion, and lipid-lowering therapies. “If you don't mind your mitochondria at night, it does not matter what you do the next day,” explains Dr. Michael Twyman, board certified cardiologist. Dr. Michael began working in traditional cardiology in 2012 and realized that there was a lack of focus on preventative measures to help stop people from having heart problems in the first place. In 2020, he opened his own clinic to address preventative heart health by applying quantum principles. In this episode, Dr. Michael shares his top tips for preventing heart attacks through healing mitochondrial dysfunction.  There are up to 5,000 mitochondria per heart cell. With so many mitochondria fueling the heart, it stands to reason that when the mitochondria are not getting enough energy to function properly, then heart health will decline. There are many preventative measures one can take to protect their heart, but at the base level, it all comes down to sunlight and sleep. Simply by seeing the sunrise each day and getting good quality sleep, you will significantly lower your risk for heart attacks. Sleep is key, because during sleep the mitochondria undergo the repair process. Issues like congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation are linked to sleep apnea, so it is critical to mind your circadian rhythm and make improving your sleep a top priority.  Most people do not think about their heart health until something goes wrong. Instead of waiting for a heart attack to address your heart health, start taking preventative measures today.  Quotes “My number one thing is, always see the morning sunrise.” (6:02-6:06 | Dr. Michael) “A lot of heart rhythm issues such as A. Fibrillation are often associated with obstructive sleep apnea.” (12:22-12:28 | Dr. Michael) “Sleep is not when you end your day. You have to think of sleep as when you begin your day.” (16:31-16:36 | Dr. Michael) “Before light bulbs were invented, the only type of light you had at night was red light from a fire, so you're just trying to recreate that type of experience.” (26:17-26:25 | Dr. Michael) “Since the heart is heavily dense in mitochondria, it stands to reason that if you could put more energy into mitochondria in the heart, things may work better.” (29:00-29:10 | Dr. Michael) Links Connect with Dr. Michael Twyman: Dr Twyman's Clinic: https://drtwyman.com/apollocardiology/ Instagram: @drtwyman   To find a practitioner who understand the health principles of quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.org  To become a QBC member and get invites to live deep dives & access to our video library: www.quantumhealthtv.com  To take our 8 week practitioner certification in the science of quantum biology so that you can add it to your existing area of expertise: www.appliedquantumbiology.com    Follow on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook: @quantumhealthtv    Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Hva skjer i kroppen? Når skal vi bruke dette på døgnet? Hvor mye? Vi håper du liker episoden og deler den med andre du tror kan ha glede av denne informasjonen. In today's era, where most men, especially the youth, only know how to eliminate fat, where they should be building muscle and focusing on their testosterone levels, there is a lot of misinformation spread around. In today's episode, Ali, the queen of men's health, shares her amazing insights about the health benefits of building muscles and how to optimize their testosterone. Also, she will give us true information about cholesterol and TRT. Ali helps busy men get jacked, look great naked, optimize testosterone, and conquer nutrition by providing structure and a plan that works for their lifestyle. She has coached thousands of attorneys, doctors, other coaches, CEOs, executives, veterans, current military, and any dude looking to optimize their health.   Key Highlights: [00:01 - 09:49] Opening Segment ●        Ali introduces herself and explains why she was named the queen of men's health. ●        She also explains that statins have not done much to lower cholesterol, and more insulin levels and inflammation contribute to heart disease. ●        She also shares that there is no such thing as good or bad cholesterol. It's just cholesterol. [11:39 - 18:01] What Causes Erectile Dysfunction? ●        Erectile dysfunction results from three Bs, brain, biochemistry, and blood flow. ●        Endothelial dysfunction equals erectile dysfunction, as per Dr. Michael Twyman. ●        Stress affects the brain and signals that go down to the testicles and penis to procreate. ●        Having unhealthy arteries, capillaries, and other things that contribute to healthy blood flow will also have an adverse effect on your penis.  [18:02- 25:09] TRT And Self-Medication ●        Men are often stigmatized when discussing testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), leading to dismissal and self-medication. ●        Ali advises that don't go to a GP for hormone replacement; go to someone with experience and a network of people. ●        In Ali's opinion, insurance-based treatment presents a nightmare due to the arbitrary ranges that are deemed normal. ●        Peptides are amino acids that can be used for fat loss, recovery, and other things and can be bought online as research chemicals.   Key Quotes: “The rate of muscle decline accelerates as we get older.”  Ali Gilbert   “Everyone is going to react different, they have different needs and stuff like that. So sending somebody out the door with testosterone and other things that are not necessary, it's just malpractice, in my opinion.” - Ali Gilbert   “If somebody says, I wanna get jacked, what does that mean to you? Because to me, it's a whole different definition.” - Ali Gilbert   “The more body fat you have, the more inflamed you are because body fat is the most inflammatory tissue on the body.” - Ali Gilbert     CONNECT WITH  ALI : Ali Gilbert website Instagram.com/thealigilbert The Silverback Summit   Get leaner. This week, I interview none other than the biohacking cardiologist, Dr Michael Twyman. Dr Twyman is the originator of Apollo Cardiology, where he's doing some interesting tests than the average cadiologist. Dr Twyman looks at heart disease and heart attacks much differently than your average cardiologist, as he's taking in more than just your diet, but 400 other factors! Things like light, circadian rhythm, meal timing, and much more. He answers questions that are always on people's minds, like “Is cholesterol really bad?” and “the truth behind statins.” We talk about how to prevent heart disease and heart attacks. I was surprised to learn that “most heart attacks are caused by blockages that are less than 50% [blocked].”Dr Twyman is also extremely bullish on red light therapy and photobiomodulation. Red light therapy Red light therapy works from the inside-out to enhance mitochondrial function in cells. This, in turn, leads to several skin benefits. Red light decreases skin inflammation, smooths skin tone, repairs sun damage, fades scars and stretch marks, and even builds collagen in the skin, which reduces wrinkles. It also heals wounds and can prevent recurring cold sores or herpes simplex. Red light works on the lymphatic system to improve your body's detoxification abilities by increasing blood flow. It may even stimulate hair growth in your hair follicles.Dr Twyman explains why he thinks red light therapy is going to be so important right now and in the future. Dr Twyman focuses less on nutrition and more on light, magnetism, and water similar to one of his mentors Dr Jack Kruse. What I also like about Dr Twyman is he's a lifelong learner. He attends several motivational/business conferences yearly and has picked up some amazing insights throughout the years from mentors such as Bedros Keuilian, author of the best selling book, “Man Up.” Like Dr Twyman said, “Nobody really has this figured out. Believe in yourself. Make this happen. Imperfect action beats perfection inaction.”Timeline3:38 - How Dr Twyman biohacks cardiology5:00 - How blue light effects the heart and overall immunity11:00 - Is cholesterol really bad?12:04 - Do genes matter when it comes to heart disease?21:30 - The big ideas to help reversing heart disease23:30 - How light effects heart disease & cardiovascular health29:20 - How COVID effects the endothelium system31:13 - What preventative measure you can take for heart attacks34:22 - What Dr Twyman does to help improve his overall health 39:30 - The truth behind statins43:00 - Most memorable testimonials with people in his clinic44:20 - The most concerning issue coming in the future to the health world47:00 - Some of the big ideas that have most impacted Dr Twyman this yearFor the show notes and other links go to www.joelevancoaching.comAlso if you're interested in life or health coaching, email me at info@joelevancoaching.comI'm not talking about just losing weight health coaching, I'm talking even some of maybe your toughest issues, like IBS, Chron's disease, etc, I can help.Follow me on IG @joelevancoaching and Dr Twyman @drtwyman or head to www.drtwyman.com for more information.

Functional Medicine Practitioner: What You Will Learn: What inspired Dr. Twyman to become a functional medicine practitioner How Dr. Twyman evaluates patients who are at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases How patients react to the way traditional cardiology test results match up to Dr. Twyman's prognosis The different types of treatments Dr. Twyman uses in integrative cardiology and the results he is seeing How Dr. Twyman positions his practice to the public What Dr. Twyman does to get his patients into a consistent regimen and help them follow through with treatment How different types of light can affect your overall health, and how to mitigate them The different ways Dr. Twyman evaluates his patients' mitochondrial health and how he helps them make lifestyle changes to improve it Integrative Cardiology Dr. Michael Twyman is an integrative cardiologist that specializes in stroke and heart attack prevention. One of his core missions as a functional medicine practitioner is to help patients find their risk levels—not only to halt the damage—but to reverse the disease process itself. It is an inspiring and courageous endeavor from a medical position. On this episode of The FM Shift, we are happy to share the stage with him to help him advance his cause. Prevention is the Key The big question that inspired Dr. Michael Twyman to become a functional medicine practitioner is— “if we have the patient's weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and other factors controlled, why do they keep coming back?” It drew Dr. Twyman to the preventative side of his specialization. He began looking at advanced lipid profiles and inflammation, eventually leading him to connect with a group of like-minded individuals who sought ways to prevent/reverse these diseases completely. That group is the St. Louis Institute of Integrative Medicine. Into Uncharted Territory If you're having a heart attack, you obviously want well-trained individuals taking care of you. But if you really want to get to the root cause, you have to dive much deeper. As a functional medicine practitioner who goes against the grain, Dr. Twyman certainly has unique obstacles to overcome in treatment. But he rarely faces scrutiny from his colleagues, and that is important to note. Functional medicine is still new, but it is finally in the mainstream. We have an opportunity to treat more and more patients with revolutionary practices like Dr. Twyman's by looking at the big picture. However, in many instances, this leads us into uncharted territory. See all the Healthcast at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog/ Dr. Michael Twyman is a Board-Certified Cardiologist who has now become a preventive Cardiologist, a specialist who tests you and helps you learn and understand how to avoid getting heart disease. Today Dr. Twyman is going to explain three new tests that he offers to his patients to help decrease the risk of heart disease, stroke, and to avoid heart attacks The first test is the Cardiac Calcium Scan that Dr Maupin has ordered for her high-risk patients for over 10 years.  It is a low dose radiation CT scan of your heart. It only takes about ten minutes.  It measures the plaque on the vessels of your heart.  When there is plaque it narrows the arteries and looks white on the CT scan.  Your score is based on how much calcium has collected on the arteries, which indicates how much plaque you have.   If your vessels are clear, your score on this test is zero or close to it, which means you are not at risk for a heart attack. If your score is 400 or above, you are in immediate danger. This test is used to determine your risk or even if you need a procedure right away.  As physicians, this is a better test than a stress test to see if you are forming plaque and therefore is a better predictor. This particular test is cheap, easy, and low radiation, so we go to this first to evaluate high risk patients. This is a great test to determine if someone needs to take a statin or not.  Just because you have high cholesterol doesn't mean it is a risk for heart disease.  If it doesn't form plaque, then you don't need a statin. The second test that Dr Twyman does is the CIMP but what is the CIMP? It is a test that measures your carotid arteries for blockage. If you have blockage, then your arteries are narrowed with plaque and you are at risk for an embolus, or a blockage that causes a stroke.  To decide if you need treatment, or even surgery, Dr. T needs to know just how blocked your carotid arteries are. CIMP measures blood flow and size and thickness of the carotid arteries with ultrasound.  The thicker the walls of the carotid arteries are, the more inflammation and plaque you have built up and the higher risk you are for a stroke. If you have an abnormal CIMP scan you will also have an abnormal calcium scan.  We can treat you with supplements and medication to melt away the plaque and open up the arteries.  Your plaque buildup can be reversed. This is one of the things that a preventive cardiologist tries to accomplish once they have adequate information to determine your level of risk and then they are able to formulate a plan to lower those risk factors. Dr Twyman attempts to treat disease before it becomes irreversible and permanently damages us. Traditional cardiology training teaches us to find problems as early as possible and try to stabilize what is going on in your body so that we can avoid a stroke heart attack or heart attack and heart failure. The third test that Dr. Twyman utilizes is the Endothelial Test to measure the thickness of the lining of your arteries.  This test measures how well your arteries expand when needed and can evaluate the endothelial lining of the arteries which tells him the functional health of your arteries…how well they work to adapt to your activity level. This is a test that can act as an early warning system and gives a patient several years grace period to change his or her diet exercise and nutrition to reverse the process.  Dr Twyman guides people to through the process. Dr. Twyman talks us through these three tests and explains what he is looking for, how long it will last, and why these results are important in learning how to protect your heart and your blood flow in ways that will help you avoid heart disease as you age. Suggestions are offered for those who are found to be at risk (whatever the measured risk factors are,) for how to change their diet and life- style and to determine whether or not some hormone replacement such as testosterone would be the best next step to take. Finally, Dr. Twyman discuss his expertise in understanding circadian rhythms, especially meal scheduling and light exposure along with optimization of sleep patterns. These are relevant in helping your body avoid negative consequences that you can experience due to a confused or atypical schedule. This can be caused if you are a shift worker working nights, or if you are a pilot or someone who flies across time zones and cannot regulate their diet and sleep patterns because of the impact of their job. Sleep, diet, and light are critical to your health. Keeping regulated as much as possible can help your health more than we have understood. Our concerns are always about helping you live healthier and longer more functional lives. We are deeply appreciative of Dr. Twyman for sharing his expertise with us this week.
