Want to get in touch? Send Claire a message!Welcome to episode ONE HUNDRED of The Eat for Endurance Podcast! Woohoo! I'm excited to share my interview with Melissa Azzaro, RDN LD aka The Hormone Dietitian about how to get better sleep. Melissa and I talked for over 90 minutes about a TON of different factors that impact sleep, including nutrients, eating patterns, supplements, lifestyle behaviors, and more.Sleep is a huge and complicated topic, and sleep problems are often linked back to numerous things. Here are some of the things we highlighted:Why hormone imbalances, including during perimenopause and times of low energy availability, lead to sleep issuesWhat types of dietary habits and patterns impact sleep quality and quantityHow eating enough, and including enough carbs, is so important for sleepWhy drinking alcohol is doing you no favors in the sleep departmentThe effects of caffeine on sleep and differences among indiviudals Herbal and nutrient supplements that may improve sleepHow exercise can affect sleep, especially relating to timingOther lifestyle factors that impact sleep (e.g. light, temperature, etc)And so much more! When thinking about how to get better sleep, your best bet is to start with some basic, foundational things. Listen to the episode for some recs and ideas!Just a heads up - this conversation has large sections that are mostly focused on women, whether it's talking about hormonal shifts and symptoms during perimenopause or relating to PCOS, or about other female-specific challenges. This is partly because Melissa is a women's health dietitian! But don't worry, we cover many things that are relevant to everyone too. Every day for an STR entrepreneur is filled with numerous tasks, some of which consume the time you could spend growing your business using your unique skills. If only you could get the low-level projects off your plate, freeing up your time to focus on taking your business to the next level. You can if you hire a virtual assistant (VA). It's easy to hire a VA. But it's not always easy to hire the right one, assimilate them into the culture of your business, and then keep them as a part of your team while growing their role. Most hosts don't have a plan for any of it, so they end up in the cycle of hiring and firing VAs until they throw in the towel and decide working with a VA isn't working. It doesn't have to be that way. On this episode of STR Conversations, Eric and I are announcing a special FREE step by step training we are dropping next week and share how you can be a part of it for FREE. Joe Curd is the Director of Multifamily National Accounts at Stealth Monitoring. Stealth protects assets for businesses with high quality video monitoring and surveillance. In multifamily, there is a significant worry about security. One of the top reasons a resident does not renew their lease is that they feel unsafe and uncomfortable on a property. We want residents to feel safe while on the property. Current systems are mostly used after a problem has occurred. Being able to tell residents “we caught it on camera and sent the footage to the police” is not comforting because the crime still happened. Stealth Monitoring fixes this by using speakers to alert the problem-causer that they're on camera, scaring them off before there is any real problem. Also by using 24/7 eyewitness surveillance, self-guided tours become less risky since any damage would be caught on camera. Any attempt at theft would be stopped in its tracks. Many of the reasons that make collecting drivers licenses before touring necessary would be reduced.   In this episode, we covered:Why the current security systems on place in multifamily properties (such as closed circuit TV and patrols) are ineffectiveHow a reputation for safety issues scares off ideal prospects, particularly for two or three bedroom apartment unitsWhat additional expenses occur in multifamily as a result of higher crime and safety issuesWhat top multifamily investors are preparing for by putting a bigger focus on safetyWhy resident retention and amenity criteria surveys are inaccurate, and what to look for that doesn't make those listsWhere self-guided tours are going to be in 10 yearsHow a proactive surveillance system fills the holes that a standard reactive system has Connect with Joe Curd on LinkedIn

Today I've brought back Steven Wright of the Healthy Gut Company to talk about the tremendous impact short-chain fatty acids have on the gut microbiome.Short-chain fatty acids are produced when the good bacteria in your gut break down certain dietary fibers, which is why dietary and supplemental fiber sources are so important for optimal health. Both clinical application and peer-reviewed research have shown that short-chain fatty acids enhance intestinal barrier function, regulate the immune system, and reduce oxidative stress. They can also help with insomnia, food sensitivities, histamine intolerance, and autoimmune diseases. We discuss good sources of the right kinds of dietary and supplemental fibers, as well as how and when to supplement short-chain fatty acids like butyric acid.Listen to the full episode to hear:How short-chain fatty acids are produced in the gut and why they're so important for maintaining the health of your microbiomeHow butyrate interacts with the immune system to protect against leaky gut and autoimmune issuesWhat to eat to support your body's ability to produce short-chain fatty acidsWhat to look for in a butyrate supplementGet $15 off plus free shipping with coupon code: eatforlife15 at Healthy Gut CompanyLearn more about Steven Wright:Healthy Gut CompanyLearn more about Sami:Eatfor.lifeBook Your Complimentary ConsultationEat For Life cookbooks for each unique biotypeResources:Sanna, S., van Zuydam, N.R., Mahajan, A. et al.
