Phillip emphasizes authenticity and value over self-promotion, making engagement the core of effective public speaking. Stay tuned to uncover more secrets of successful speaking. It's not about taking center stage; it's about giving your audience the spotlight they deserve.NOTABLE QUOTES"As you're preparing for a speech, maybe you're gonna be a little bit nervous. If you remember that this speech is not about you, that's going to help you when you're up there on stage, that you are there for that audience." – Philip"It's an awkward situation for your audience when you don't remember them or your intention behind speaking to them is simply just to sell them your product or service." – Philip"Your audience is the reason why you're there. It's not about you showing that you're on stage." – Philip"It's about you pouring into your audience and when you focus on your audience, your audience can feel that you're there for them." – Philip"You are that source for them to be able to get to that other side. They still need to be a hero, but you're that wise counselor, you're that mentor for them, helping them navigate through that tough time that you've already been through.." – Philip"Your story is something that they can look to, to see, kind of like the lighthouse." – Philip"To let them know that, ‘Hey, I'm here for you. I'm going to give you that roadmap for you to go. I've been there before.'" – Philip“I like talking about myself, you like talking about yourself, but if you flip that script and talk about the audience, they're gonna like you more." – PhilipRESOURCESPhilipInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/iamphilipsessions/?hl=enTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@philipsessionsLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/philip-sessions-b2986563/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/therealphilipsessions Support the Show.

She explains how your feelings are actually “your spirit waiting to break through.” She also shares incredible insight into how to discover your authentic self, why your posture matters even before your presentation begins, and why your reflection in the mirror is so incredibly important. [04:09] - One of the struggles people most often have with sharing their authentic voice comes from shyness or insecurity. She and Nienke then talks about nerves (which are in fact “your spirit waiting to break through”) and dreams. [25:02] - Orion brings up a recent conversation with a friend, comparing how Israelis and Americans communicate. [26:46] - Does Nienke change herself for her audience (in terms of cultural norms) or is she just herself regardless of the audience? She and Orion discuss cultural norms in more depth as they relate to public speaking. [30:42] - Nienke offers tips on how to get Dutch people warmed up as you’re giving a presentation. [32:44] - Nienke digs deeper into the process of being your authentic self and explores what the “real you” is. She answers, then he and Orion talk about the fact the fact that bragging is actually important. [38:43] - Nienke talks about power poses, referencing the popular TED Talk by Amy Cuddy. Orion points out that hip circles are important as well; power poses get you into the dominant, male side, but hip circles bring out your feminine side, allowing you to integrate the two. [40:36] - What’s so important about TED Talks, and why does Nienke like them so much? [42:07] - There are three ways to get on the TED stage, Nienke tells us, and explains what they are. She then reveals why she has never considered giving a TED Talk of her own. [44:52] - What are Nienke’s three top tips to living a stellar life? 1. Live your life by choice, not by circumstance. 2. However, I have also seen that the act of insulating one’s team can get the leader into trouble. Ultimately, insulating one’s team members sometimes means saying no to new projects so that more important existing projects can get done. This very thing (insulation of team) has a tendency to create a great working environment for the followers but simultaneously put the leader in jeopardy with his superiors. How do you suggest dealing with such a quandary? In essence, the right thing to do for the leader’s people, and consequently the organization, is also the very thing that may cause political difficulty for the leader. Are there professionals which wear both hats? I am currently in transition from solopreneur to possibly going back in the corporate world after about 12 years. It’s not a transition that I am eager for and is accompanied by a good measure of anxiety, confusion, self-doubt, etc. My feeling is that I need someone who can objectively guide me through answering some basic questions at this point in my life (What do I really want to do? What are my real strengths? Do I want to go back to the corporate grind? Should/How do I change careers?, etc.) while also helping me manage the emotional issues. I know this is a tall order (overwhelming for me right now). Should I be seeking one person who can offer a holistic view (a life coach)?
