Dominant shot totals and a furious finish weren't enough for the Edmonton Oilers to come back to defeat the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night, as the Quackers held on to win by a score of 3-2. Shaugger, Struddy and Brownie are here to break down Olivier Rodrigue's first NHL start, some chippy play and a deep dive on our favourite desserts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on the Niche Cast we start by discussing our favourite Blackcaps right now and reacting to Joseph Parker's latest win. We also chat about a Tall Blacks win vs Philippines in Auckland and then get deep into kiwi cricket. Blackcaps had a win vs Bangladesh and have won their first two games at the Champions Trophy, plus we have a funky White Ferns squad to break down ahead of their series vs Sri Lanka. Ford Trophy and HBJ Shield finals are coming up this weekend with lots of domestic cricket nuggets on offer, before we talk through a 1-1 draw for Football Ferns vs Costa Rica. Auckland FC bossed another Aotearoa A-League derby vs Wellington Phoenix and there's even some New Zealand Warriors rugby league to preview as they start their NRL season vs Canberra Raiders this weekend.Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/elnichecacheNewsletter twice a week: https://thenichecache.substack.comHook us up with a brew: https://buymeacoffee.com/thenichecacheSay kia ora: thenichecache@gmail.comwww.theniche-cache.com(00:00) Intro (+ Favourite Blackcaps)(10:47) Mindfulness(12:18) Joseph Parker KO's Martin Bakole(20:01) Tall Blacks vs Philippines(24:20) Steven Adams & Houston Rockets(32:24) Blackcaps beat Bangladesh(52:15) White Ferns squad vs Sri Lanka(01:04:44) Ford Trophy & HBJ Shield(01:11:45) Football Ferns in Costa Rica(01:21:59) Auckland FC vs Wellington Phoenix(01:46:32) NZ Warriors & NRL

For centuries, unusual sounds have been reported throughout the world. From the quaking "Ton der Dove-Bai" reported in Greenland to the mysterious "Bloop" recorded by NOAA in the 1990s, odd sounds of unexplained origin have captured our imagination and hinted at phenomena in our world that continue to evade us in modern times. Arguably, one of the strangest unexplained acoustic phenomena ever reported involves the mysterious "Quackers" encountered by Soviet submarine crews during the Cold War. Did these deep sea anomalies represent Soviet USO encounters, mysterious deep-sea animals, an experimental U.S. technology, or something else entirely? First impressions can be wild, as is evident from our dramatic reactions when reviewing our first adaptation of Jane Eyre: the 1983 miniseries. Piper was obsessed, Lillian was disturbed. With a year's worth of content that we can now use as comparison, we decided to go back to where it all began and see how our takes on this version might have changed from our first gut reactions. 1983 Part 1: Pilot the Dog https://eyrebuds.weebly.com/podcast-episodes/pilot-the-dog-the-1983-mini-serise-part-one 1983 Part 2: Bertha vs. Quackers https://eyrebuds.weebly.com/podcast-episodes/quakers-vs-berthas

To celebrate 99 years of Disney Mike & Neil are joined by Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Minnie and many more classic Disney characters on this week's episode. However these characters can't quite save many of these mediocre to downright awful games, many of which were exclusive to the GameCube. One of these games, Disney's Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse was played by friend of the show Emma who takes the boys through what it was like to play a point and click game with a controller. Donald Duck games like Goin' Quackers and PK Out of the Shadows appear in this episode as well as Disney Sports entries like Football and Basketball. While we watch Disney buy up all the good content Mike & Neil take us through a very strange era for Disney in the early 2000s. And of course a big shout out to Manscaped! What the McDuck?! They made a movie about those adventurous mallards? It's a surprise to us as well. Regardless, these thirteen things about Ducktales The Movie will have you screaming whoo hoo all the way to the bank. First Disney animated movie to be spun off from a television series. There were originally plans to have a Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers movie released the summer following this movie's release, along with a Goof Troop movie. However, Disney decided to pull the plug on that project, and retool the Goof Troop movie into A Goofy Movie, since this movie underperformed at the box-office. Someone dressed like Indiana Jones is briefly seen at the Explorer's Club. Released on the big screen with the classic Donald Duck cartoon "Dude Duck". Side characters from DuckTales, like Gyro, Doofus, Bubba the Cave Duck, and Gismoduck are absent, as the filmmakers didn't want to confuse newcomers who have not seen the Disney Afternoon cartoon. This is also why none of any of the show's villains, like the Beagle Boys, Magica DaSpell, and Flintheart Glomgold are present. The plot point of Scrooge finding and digging a pyramid out of the sand, is taken from a Carl Barks story "Pyramid Scheme" from the Scrooge comics. Error: During the treasure of Collie Baba sequence, when Scrooge orders Dijon to bring their sacks, his "treasure-hunting" outfit briefly returns to his trademark waistcoat. The events of the film take place between the third and fourth seasons of DuckTales. The initial voice-overs took one year, and another six months were spent on re-takes. Although Alan Young had never worked with Christopher Lloyd or Rip Taylor before, he said he would "'sit there in awe' watching them at work." When the film was released in theaters, the theme song was reprised twice during the end credits, with both times sung. For some reason, the VHS only has the first time sung, while the second time is instrumental only. In the 2000 video game Donald Duck Goin' Quackers, Merlock plays the game's main villain. The film made only $18 million at the box ofice, causing it to be a failure and killing all future theatrical sequels. Critics in the USA, generally considered the film an Indiana Jones rip-off. It was also a betrayal to Carl Barks's Uncle Scrooge comic books which DuckTales was based on. Noted movie critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert didn't even bother reviewing this film for their tv show Siskel & Ebert at The Movies DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) G | 1h 14min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy | 3 August 1990 (USA) Scrooge McDuck takes Huey, Dewey, and Louie to Egypt to find a pyramid and magic lamp. The Huskers are undefeated…after one game. And it was closer than we’d like. Brian and Greg saw some things we liked in last week’s game. Like the kick return for a touchdown, the improved play from the quarterback position, the myriad of Nebraska receivers, and a young man by the name of Tre Bryant. We saw some things we didn’t like. For example…the muffed punt returned for a touchdown, and…the defense that bent but didn’t break when it counted the most. And then there’s the trip to the West Coast where an estimated 25,000-30,000 Husker fans are preparing to descend upon Eugene’s Autzen Stadium, where the Huskers will take on the Oregon Ducks. Quackers is a duck. Oh sure, Quackers may look like a cat, and SOUND like a cat. But I tell you true! Quackers is a duck. Mittens, on the other hand (Ha HA! Puns!), is the weirdest duck that Quackers has ever met and Quackers is excited to find out more. And also, at the end, an argument about Vegan life-choices. (Sam is definitely right!) Rachel & Sam Read a Story is about the fun of reading children's books new and old, and also about how little sense these books make when you read them 20 years later. We read the books aloud and make fun of them as we go. Enjoy! Follow Sam (@SamGasch) or follow Rachel (@Sknowite). Either way, please subscribe!

Even though Emily and James can't seem to keep a collection of wine before drinking it all, they decided to talk about people who can collect things! Plus, we hear about some of our listeners' collections! This episode's wine: Root:1 Heritage RedThis episode's cheese: Sharp white cheddar Even though it seems everyone has a collection of something, James tells us how collecting came from the rich. And how they kept their collections in these things called "cabinets," in case you were unfamiliar with the word ... Got some old toys or Hot Wheels laying around? They may be worth money! But, your Beanie Babies ... um, not so much. Emily also calls out her middle school crush who dropped her original Quackers in a mud puddle. While talking about some of the theories why we collect things, Emily gets on a tangent about state quarters and how they're like Pokemon. And, we find another reason Freud makes Emily roll her eyes. We also talk about collectors vs. hoarders, and Emily gives you some warning signs to look out for. And we talk about our personal collections we've had, and how Emily came to appreciate Al Gore's lock box idea. Thanks to Shane from Now That I'm Older, Ro from The World of Ro, and Jen from Rebeat Magazine (and our Cheers to Glam Rock episode), who sent in their collections for us to talk about! Want to test your Greek, Latin, Harry Potter and made-up words trivia? James puts Emily on the spot with these terms, but, luckily, you won't be quizzed. Whoever came up with these names really should have consulted us. Emily talks about some unusual collections, including the collections of Graham Barker, who has collected his belly button lint since 1984. And James tells us about celebrity collectors -- no, not the people who collect celebrities. Also, we discuss our plan to entice Tom Hanks to come on our show. (Crowdfunding campaign coming soon!) Highlights 22:50 - Emily gives her tip for avoiding piles of tissues! 37:57 - James says those three magic words: "You're pretty smart." 44:11:49 - The best way to play Six Degrees to Kevin Bacon. (We being with Pastor Jeff reading from Psalms 109, page 602 of pew Bibles.) O God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, for wicked and deceitful men have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. You and I have all been there. You and I have all been victims of somebody elses lies or gossip, somebody else saying things about us that arent true or telling things that are true needlessly to people who dont need to know. Weve all had opportunities to feel what David is feeling here right now in this Psalm. This is a tremendous opportunity for him to forgive, isnt it? Its a tremendous opportunity to exercise the grace of God and release the offenders. Were going to see what he does. Verse 6, Appoint an evil man to oppose him; let an accuser stand at his right hand. When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. Thats pretty dark, isnt it? When you start picking on his wife and kids too, thats pretty dark stuff. May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. Now, hes even picking on the guys mom. This is dark stuff! This is some bitter stuff right here. May their sins always remain before the Lord, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth. He says, I dont want them blessed as a family. I dont want them blessed financially. I dont want them blessed spiritually. I want this guy to suffer because of what hes done to me. Thats not saying thats Gods will. Thats simply saying those were Davids feelings about what had happened. Thats a pretty natural thing. When somebody strikes you, your nature is to strike them back. When they say something bad about you, your tendency is to say something back or harbor resentment towards that. If somebody gossips about you or hurts you, there is a part of you that wants to get even or rejoices when failure or calamity comes or hits their lives. So David is just being totally honest about his frustration and what he is feeling here. The reason I mention that to you is because that is not unusual in the Bible-for us to see a Psalmist or a Prophet by Jeremiah, when he is wrong-the anger that comes forth out of his mouth… Jeremiah is so mad he says, Curse be the man who brought the news that it is a son into the world when I was born. He just spews out these feelings of ill will. The reason I bring that up is so that you can realize when Jesus comes on the scene and says-youve heard it said, An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, but I say to you… or when He says, Love your enemies. When He talks about forgiving those whove wronged us, thats radical stuff. The Disciples had been brought up to know that not loving your enemies or… That's why when they went to the Samaritan village and Jesus was rejected, the Disciples say, Lord, do you want us to call down fire from Heaven and consume them? Jesus replies and says, You dont know what Spirit youre of. Jesus comes along, and He begins to teach forgiveness, grace and restoration, and its radical! Its new. We take it for granted when we hear it. We know that's what expected of us from God; but when Jesus comes on the scene and says, When somebody strikes you on the cheek, turn to them the other also, that was revolutionary teaching. The natural tendency is not to forgive; its to get even. Forgiveness is a supernatural work, and we are directing our attention to that this morning. Were going to show a clip at this time from the movie, The End of the Spear. The End of the Spear was a low-budget movie which was very well done. It tells a story of five men who left America-Jim Elliot, Nate Saint and others-to preach the Gospel in the jungles of Ecuador. They met their demise there. They were speared; they were killed by the Auca Indians. Joy Thompson-we have a connection there, her family-Dr. John and Mary Doerfer-were missionaries in Ecuador; so she grew up in the jungles of Ecuador. They actually played… Were going to see the clip of Nate Saints son coming back to the jungles of Ecuador to find out what happened to his fathers wreckage and how his father died; and hes going to put all those pieces together. The sister of that young man, Joy would have played with her children; so the nieces of the man were going to see in the video-Joy-played with growing up. Thats kind of a cool connection for our church. This story was shared in the Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot as she retold the incredible story of Jim Elliot, her husband, and what happened there. Then, of course, the daughter of Nate Saint coming back again with the Gospel and seeing the Gospel begin to spread through that region [is what will take place in the clip]. This is a little longer than normal. Its a few minutes long, but were going to see it as Nate Saints son returns to the scene of the crime, if you will, and begins to put the pieces together about what happened to his father. It is a vivid word picture that I want us to remember about what forgiveness is, and its something that well be drawing upon as we share from the Word this morning. Im going to go over here and sit down. For some of you, its going to be hard to see the words because theyre at the bottom of the screen-either because your vision doesnt pick them up or the music stands are in the way or whatever. When English is not being spoken and subtitles are at the bottom, I will translate that for you. I will read that for you, so you know whats being said. Lets watch the clip from The End of the Spear. Id like you to open your Bibles with me, please, to the Book of 2 Corinthians 2 (page 1143 of pew Bibles) as we talk about this subject of forgiveness. The Apostle Paul had a lot of trouble with this church. There was a lot of division in the church of Corinth. Immorality was constantly happening there. Paul is talking about a disciplinary issue that happened in this church with this individual-we dont have exact details about what he did. Well talk a little bit more about it next week; but he was obviously an important member of the congregation because of the pain that is caused by his absence, by his actions; the difficulty the church is having, that he was very much loved and had fallen; and the pain that this causes. Paul is going to talk about forgiveness and restoration in this mans life. Hes going to teach us some principles about what forgiveness is. Im going to read through the text of Verses 5-11, and then were going to go back verse by verse and talk about the principles of what forgiveness is from this text. Lets read Verses 5-11 in its entirety, and then well go back. Paul writes and says, If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent-not to put it too severely. The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven-if there was anything to forgive-I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. Principle number one is found in Verses 5-6. Paul talks about the grief and the pain that this sin has caused-both in the church and in the life of the individual. Forgiveness is an acknowledgment of the pain. Its an acknowledgement of the consequences of the action. Some think when you forgive somebody, youre simply glossing over all of that, sweeping it under the rug, not dealing with the emotions and just mechanically doing this act of forgiveness when actually just the opposite is true. Its when we choose not to work through the issues of forgiveness and reconciliation that were sweeping things under the rug. When you forgive, you acknowledge the pain; you get the cards on the table, and you say, This is what happened. These are the consequences. This is the pain that is or was felt. This is the damage that was done, and that is essential in this process of forgiveness; so there is acknowledgement of the pain. Secondly, it teaches us in Verse 7 that forgiveness is the beginning of the healing process. He says, Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. Paul says hes suffering, and youre suffering; and we need to end the suffering. We need to begin the healing, and the way this happens is that you release him. You drop the spear. You are going to forgive this man, so healing can begin. We think mistakenly that all I have to do is say the magic words Im sorry, and that person says, I forgive you; and magically, all the pain goes away and instantly we are healed. Thats not the way it works in the real world. That's the way it works if somebody accidently steps on your toe, but thats not the way it works when somebody does the things that David talks about in Psalm 109. Thats not the way it works when somebody like Nate Saints son has to go face to face with someone he thought was his friend. It turned out to be the man that murdered his father. The emotions and the pain that he dealt with-thats not going to instantly heal. You can compare forgiveness to a break of a bone. When you break your bone, what does the doctor do? The doctor sets your bone. Does that heal the bone? Do you say, Oh, my ankle has been set. Now I can walk on my foot? No. Oh, my wrist has been set now. I can play tennis tomorrow. No because all youve done is put proper alignment so that the bone can heal. Thats what forgiveness does. Forgiveness starts the process. Not forgiving prohibits the process. So forgiveness aligns it so that healing can take place, but it is a process. There is a period of time when that is sensitive to the touch, when it is tender, when it needs to be protected because mending has to take place. The more egregious the offense-the greater the betrayal, the greater the hurt, the longer period of time-just like in the natural body, in the emotional/spiritual realm-the longer it will take for healing to take place. So dont be surprised when after youve pronounced forgiveness that you are still dealing with pain and anguish-that some of these echoes are still present in your life. Corrie ten Boom-some of you have heard of Corrie ten Boom. She was a Holocaust survivor and spoke and wrote of atrocities that happened to her family; she became very famous for her work, The Hiding Place. Corrie ten Boom was on a lecture tour for awhile, and she shared a story that she had forgiven one of the Nazis for killing a family member. She had obeyed God; she had forgiven him. She was still, however, struggling with thoughts of hate, struggling with bitterness and having these memories come back. It was to the point where she couldnt even sleep at night. She talked to a pastor friend of hers. She said, I dont understand why Im having such difficulties. I dont understand why Im still having these thoughts when Ive forgiven. Did I not forgive? Did I not do it right? Everybody in this room has struggled with that, right? Everybody in this room as forgiven somebody and still had resentments and thought, Why is that? Why am I still struggling with this? The Lutheran pastor pointed Corrie to the church steeple. He said, You see that steeple, Corrie? Every day the sexton comes in there, and he pulls on the rope and rings the bell. Then after hes done that many times, he releases the rope. Does that stop the bell? He said, Not at first. At first, the ding dong continues, and then it gets softer and quieter. Then pretty soon it disappears all together. He says, Thats the way it is with forgiveness. When you forgive, you let go of the rope. But if youve been tugging on that rope of resentment for a long time, dont be surprised if the bell continues to clang inside. Over time it will diminish, and eventually it will disappear all together. So forgiveness is an event, but its also a process. Its a decision we make, but there is a work that has to be done in our spirit; so thats important for us to understand. Paul says, Begin that work. This brother obviously was genuine and authentic in his repentance, and Paul says, Its time to restore him. Verse 8, I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for HIMMMM. The next principle is that forgiveness is a new start. Biblical forgiveness wipes the slate clean. When you confess your sin to God and you ask for Gods forgiveness, God is not going to bring that up to you in the future. Its a new beginning for you; its a new day for you. Thomas Edison-we take the light bulb so for granted. We just take it out of the package, screw it in and turn on our light. We dont realize what a painstaking process that was for Edison and his men to assemble a light bulb. I read that in those first light bulbs, it took them 24 hours to make that light bulb. They worked continuously around the clock to make that happen. After it was done, when the first light bulbs-it had to be just painstakingly and carefully handled at the risk of breaking this precious, fragile commodity… One of the younger apprentices was entrusted to take it from the work station to the place where they would plug it in. In his care, he was overly cautious, bobbled the light bulb and it broke-24 hours of labor! Thomas Edison and the crew were so discouraged. Of course, the young man felt terrible for what he had done. The crew again began to work another 24 hours without sleep to put together another light bulb. When Edison finished, he took the light bulb and he gave it to the same young man. That's forgiveness. He had another opportunity, another chance. Paul said, This man deserves it. This man deserves to be reinstated into the body. He has confessed his sin. He is right before God, and he needs to be right before you as well. Verse 9, The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. Forgiveness is also an act of obedience. It is in the realm of the will more than it is in the realm of the emotions and the feelings. Forgiveness is an act of obedience. God commands forgiveness. I read to you that the verbs from the Book of Ephesians are in the imperative tense. When he says (Ephesians 4:32, page 1159 of pew Bibles), Be kind and compassionate, forgiving one another just as in Christ God forgave you. It is not an option; it is not a suggestion. It is a command of God. God commands that we forgive. God expects us to make decisions that are contrary many times to our emotions and our feelings. Our feelings might say to us, Dont forgive. Our emotions might say to us, They dont deserve forgiveness, but God has commanded it; and its important we understand that. It is an act of our will. Every day you do things that are acts of your will. You go to work when you dont feel like it; thats an act of your will. You open your books and study or write a paper when you dont feel like it. Maybe your emotions say, Stay in bed, go shopping, or go play in the snow and have fun; but you choose to do something contrary to your emotions and your feelings because there are severe consequences. If you dont go to work, you lose your job. If you dont study, youre going to flunk your class. The consequences go on from there. You make a decision on the basis of your will and not your emotions. Forgiveness often is the same thing. Many times when you go to work or you do the schoolwork, youre glad you did. You get into the project, and its fun. You come to church-you didnt want to go that Sunday, but you came and it was beneficial. Youre glad you came. Not that that would ever happen here, but there are some homes where they fuss about going to church before its time to go. So, Paul says, This is a choice that we make. Its an act of our will. Its an act of obedience. Verse 10, If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. Forgiveness is a declaration that we are making a pronouncement of forgiveness when possible. It is important that we say to the person that has wronged us or hurt us, I forgive you. We make that declaration with our mouth. Its also a work of faith and grace; forgiveness is a work of faith and grace. He says, …if there was anything to forgive-I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake. God is involved in this process. In order for that healing to take place… How does God take this decision and take this declaration and bring about healing in our emotions and our spirit. How does that fully work? I dont really fully understand it; I just know it does. I know we do our part. When we are obedient, God will do His part. When you confess your sins to the Lord and you ask for His forgiveness, youre doing your part and youre trusting that God is doing something in you that you cannot do for yourself. Hes removing the guilt of your sin. He is cleansing you from unrighteousness; He is making you righteous. You cannot do that; God is doing His part. So, forgiveness is an act of faith. Im saying, Okay, God, Im going to be obedient. Im going to do what Youve commanded me to do even though I dont feel like it, and Im going to make this declaration of forgiveness. Im trusting that You will work in my spirit, remove pain, bring healing and bring deliverance to me in my life. So forgiveness is also an act of faith, trusting God to do His part-to do His work of grace in our lives and in the lives of those that we need to be reconciled with. Verse 11 says, …in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. What is the context here? The context which hes talking about is Paul saying that Satan will use unforgiveness, resentment, bitterness, and hatred as weapons in our lives. Satan means slanderer; he slanders us. Hes the accuser of the brethren. As long as we harbor these things in our lives, we are giving Satan ammunition to use against us. We are giving him ammunition to hurt us spiritually; so when you disobey God and choose not to forgive, you are actually working against yourself. Youre actually harming yourself. Youre harming yourself spiritually; youre harming yourself emotionally because where forgiveness releases the bitterness, unforgiveness locks it in. It seals it inside of you, and thats not something you want to do. You dont want to seal unforgiveness and bitterness inside of you. Hatred acts as a poison. Bitterness acts as a cancer, and it spreads and destroys from the inside out. Thats why when we swallow something that is bad for us, our bodies naturally regurgitate that. When we go into the hospital, and they cleanse our system-they pump our stomachs to get that out… Bitterness is not something you want to reside; its not something you want to make a nest in your lives, in your heart and your mind because it will follow you. It will corrupt you. So unforgiveness seals that inside of you. God says, I want you to release that. I want you to be free. I dont want you to be bitter, angry people. I want you to be a healed people, a gracious people. You know one of the hardest things to do is to forgive ourselves. Have you found that to be true? One of the hardest things to do is to forgive ourselves. We become angry with ourselves; we hold resentment toward ourselves. We begin to think, Maybe God cant forgive me, God cant use me, or God doesnt love me because of what Ive done or havent done. The accuser, the brethren, uses that. How can you be used of God? How can God love you? Look at what youve done? The accuser, the brethren, uses that in our lives, so I want to also talk to you this morning about forgiving yourself. I think thats important to do, too. A little boy and a little girl, Johnny and Sally, went to Grandma and Grandpas house as they often did. Grandpa bought Johnny a slingshot, and he said, Im going to teach you how to use this slingshot, Johnny. They went into the woods, and they practiced. He was terrible at it. I remember getting my first slingshot and shooting myself in the thumb. It was terrible; I couldnt hit anything. So Johnny was really discouraged, and Grandpa said, Dont give up. If you just keep trying, you keep practicing, pretty soon youre going to be as good as David in a sling. He said, You think so, Grandpa? He said, I know so. Well, the little boy headed to the house, and before he went inside, he decided hed give it one more shot. Almost without thinking, he turned and he saw a duck moving out in the woods. He pulled back and he let go, and a miracle took place; he hit the duck. The duck died on the spot from the impact of the stone. The problem was, that was not just any duck. That was grandmas favorite pet duck, Quackers, and now Quackers was dead. What was he going to do? How does he break the news to Grandma that number one, he killed her favorite duck; and number two, it was him-the grandson that she loved. Shell hate me now. She wont like me anymore. I cant tell her this awful secret. I must cover it up. No one must ever know that I was the one who took the life of Quackers. As he is covering this duck up with the last piece of wood in the wood pile, he looks up and sees his sister Sally standing there and grinning from ear to ear. She knows the secret. She doesnt say a word, but she has ammunition galore. That night when it was time to do the dishes, Grandma said, Sally, its your day to do the chores. Lets wash the dishes. Sally pipes up and says, Oh, Johnny said he wants to do the dishes tonight. Dont you, Johnny? Johnny looks up and says, Uh-ha. Well, thats very good, says Grandma. You can help me with the dishes. As Sally exited the room to go watch TV, she whispered in her brothers ear, Dont forget the duck! Later that night, Grandpa said, Lets go fishing, guys! Grandma says, Oh, Sally cant go fishing tonight. She has chores to do. This is her day for chores. She turned to her brother, Johnny; he knew what was next. She looked at Grandma and said, Johnny said he wants to do the chores tonight, Grandma. He loves working with you in the house. Is that true, Johnny? Uh-ha. As she walks out with her pole to go fishing, she whispers in Johnnys ear, Remember the duck. This scenario repeats itself for days, and finally Johnny cant take it. He cant take it because of the grief, and he cant take it because of the torment. He finally confesses to Grandma in tears. He says, Grandma, I killed Quackers with my slingshot. I hope you can forgive me. I hope you still love me, and he broke down. She said, Honey, I know. I saw you. I know it was you, and I forgave you the day it happened because I love you. She wiped away his tears, and she held him close. Then she looked in his eyes smiling, and said, Johnny, I was wondering how long you were going to let your sister hold you as a slave. You know, thats the way it is in our lives. This horrible secret that God knows-we want to hide it. We want to cover it up. Were angry with ourselves. How can God love us? The truth of the matter is God knows, and He loves you. He has extended grace to you. Lets not allow the devil to continue to beat us up and brow beat us over the sins of our past. Make sure that on your list this morning, one of the names you cross off of who you need to forgive is yourself. You need to forgive yourself. That disarms the enemy when you receive that forgiveness. When you forgive others, when you forgive yourself, it lessens the ammunition that he has to use against you because its in the open. Its been dealt with; its been forgiven, and you have a new start. If youre here this morning and youve not given your life to Christ, its very important that you do that. Were talking about this issue of forgiveness. You need to understand that Christ wants to give a pardon to you. I recently read about a man who lived when President Andrew Jackson was President. He had committed a crime; hed stolen from the U.S. Mail (Post Office). The severity of the crime, the amount of mail he took-at least in that day-was enough to warrant his execution. They appealed his execution, and it went all the way to the President. President Jackson studied the case, and he issued a pardon to the man-pardoned by the President. The problem was the man was so wracked with guilt and grief and so ashamed of his sin, he felt like he didnt deserve a pardon. He rejected President Jacksons pardon. His attorneys appealed all the way to the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice wrote the decision and said that the man would be executed. He said the value of the pardon is only a pardon-unless the guilty party receives the pardon. Because this man has rejected the pardon, his guilt remains; and he is to be executed. We love to quote John 3:16 (page 1052 of pew Bibles), For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son that who so ever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. What we dont quote is John 3:36 (page 1052 as well) when Jesus says, The one who rejects the Son, the wrath of God abides on him still. If we spurn Gods pardon, if we reject His offer of grace, our guilt remains. That's why its so important that we receive His forgiveness, receive His grace. Would you pray with me this morning? Father, we are so thankful for the opportunity of a second start, so thankful this morning for an opportunity to know the joy of a clean slate, forgiveness of our sins. I pray this morning if there be one here who has never trusted in You as his or her Lord and Savior, this would be the day when he or she will receive that pardon. If youre here this morning, and youve not trusted in Christ as your Lord and Savior, I invite you to pray with me now. Say, Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus name. Im guilty of sin. Ive rebelled against You and Your Lordship; and I have committed acts that I am ashamed of. I ask today for Your pardon. I receive the sacrifice of Your Son on the cross as payment for my sin. Forgive me, Lord, and cleanse me. I pray that Your Holy Spirit would come inside of me; [I pray that] the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead would live in my life, that You would make me a new person and give me the power to live for You all the days of my life. From this day forward, Ill give You my heart. I receive you as my God and King. In Jesus name. Lord, if they prayed that prayer this morning, then their sins are forgiven. They have received the pardon; the promise of Heaven is theirs. Lord, I also pray for us this morning who need to confess. We need to go to somebody and tell them were sorry and own our sin. [I pray] that we would have the courage to take this step of obedience. Lord, for those of us who have been wronged or hurt, by the work of grace [I pray] that we would forgive those who have hurt us, offended us and wronged us. Even this morning as we prepare to receive communion, we will name their name. Well name the offense, and well make a declaration of obedience and faith and pronounce forgiveness. Father, I pray that all over this church in all these lives, we will see these pockets of reconciliation, this groundswell of forgiveness, and the healing process will begin in their hearts and lives even now as we pray. Lord, by Your grace this morning [I pray] that we would forgive ourselves. We make that declaration and say, Today, Lord Jesus, I forgive myself. We would name that offense. Even as You have forgiven me and pardoned me, I now release myself. I drop the spear; I let go of the bell that, Lord, I might experience wholeness, that Satan might no longer have grounds to accuse-that I can walk in freedom and newness of life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

What the McDuck?! They made a movie about those adventurous mallards? It's a surprise to us as well. Regardless, these thirteen things about Ducktales The Movie will have you screaming whoo hoo all the way to the bank. 13. First Disney animated movie to be spun off from a television series. 12. 11. Someone dressed like Indiana Jones is briefly seen at the Explorer's Club. 10. Released on the big screen with the classic Donald Duck cartoon "Dude Duck". 9. 8. The plot point of Scrooge finding and digging a pyramid out of the sand, is taken from a Carl Barks story "Pyramid Scheme" from the Scrooge comics. 7. Error: During the treasure of Collie Baba sequence, when Scrooge orders Dijon to bring their sacks, his "treasure-hunting" outfit briefly returns to his trademark waistcoat. 6. The events of the film take place between the third and fourth seasons of DuckTales. 5. The initial voice-overs took one year, and another six months were spent on re-takes. Although Alan Young had never worked with Christopher Lloyd or Rip Taylor before, he said he would "'sit there in awe' watching them at work." 4. When the film was released in theaters, the theme song was reprised twice during the end credits, with both times sung. For some reason, the VHS only has the first time sung, while the second time is instrumental only. 3. In the 2000 video game Donald Duck Goin' Quackers, Merlock plays the game's main villain. 2. The film made only $18 million at the box ofice, causing it to be a failure and killing all future theatrical sequels. 1.
