In today's episode, we discuss the concept of "unschooling", a learner-directed educational approach popularized by John Holt, contrasting it with traditional schooling.Traditional? Actually what we know as "unschooling" was considered pretty normal until the Industrial Revolution introduced the concept of the 8-hour work day, parents working far from home. What to do with the kids?Voila! The modern school environment was born. And while there are some pretty good public and even private institutions, even the best of intentions can't undo basic humanity and how we're programmed to learn how to live life, learn a trade or a profession, etc.Our guest, Judy Arnall, is the author of 'Unschooling to University'. Judy shares her journey into unschooling driven by her dissatisfaction with authoritarian school environments and her commitment to non-punitive parenting.Judy explains the benefits of unschooling, such as fostering a child's innate curiosity and self-directed learning, and addresses common concerns like gaps in knowledge and the role of screens in education. We also touch on the practicalities of unschooling, such as transitioning to formal learning for university preparation and overcoming societal misconceptions about educational authority. The conversation includes Judy's insights into brain development, discipline versus punishment, and the advantages of personalized, interest-driven education for children.Be sure to tune in to my follow-up interview with Judy which focuses exclusively on the concept of non-punitive parenting. Tom welcomes Nick Barisheff, President and CEO of BMG, to the show. Nick started the BMG fund in 1998 to create a safe precious metals product that qualified for Canadian retirement accounts. He wanted it structured so that there could be no interference or encumbrance with the bullion. He discusses the risk of confiscation of gold and why the correct term should be "expropriation." Currently, the chance of this action seems remote since the price would need to be a lot higher. It's more likely that governments would instead tax excessive profits on these types of investments. When you compare US debt levels to the current price of gold, we are still quite undervalued. Money printing has grown dramatically, and soon they will need to stimulate the economy again. Further defaults are coming this fall, and we will likely see a pattern of cascading failures. These failures will occur across sectors like commercial real estate. For the past 20 years, Nick Barisheff has focused on the world of precious metals and the benefits available to investors who hold physical gold, silver, and platinum bullion. As president and CEO of BMG, he uses his understanding of the precious metals markets to develop strategies, products, and services for clients looking to integrate bullion into their portfolios. His view on the precious metals sector is that gold, silver, and platinum, in bullion form, are a vital component of a client's financial program and should make up at least 10 percent or more of a well-diversified portfolio. In 2002, Nick launched BMG and BMG BullionFund, Canada's only RRSP eligible open-end mutual fund trust that purchases equal dollar amounts of gold, silver, and platinum bullion. Subsequently, BMG Gold BullionFund and the BMG BullionBars program were launched as part of its growth initiative. The BMG Silver Bullion Fund was launched in 2016. Nick specifically designed all BMG products to avoid compromising any of the fundamental attributes of precious metals ownership: absolute liquidity, no counterparty risk, and no reliance on management skills. In 2011, BMG became an Associate Member of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA). The only other equally accredited company in Canada is the Royal Canadian Mint, the Crown Corporation that produces Canada's currency. Widely recognized as an international bullion expert, Nick has written numerous articles on bullion and current market trends that are published on various news and business websites. He has appeared on BNN, CBC, CNBC, and Sun Media.

Also, there is a general exodus occurring from the cities to the country. Nick discusses the increasing demand for metals and the possibilities for a failure to deliver in futures. He cautions that the Comex can always change the rules. China has stated that they want to have more gold than the United States. Both China and Russia have been keeping all the gold they produce. China has been acquiring gold through their sovereign wealth funds while under-reporting. He thinks China will not announce they're true holdings until shortages develop. Hello ladies and gentlemen listeners from across Canada! Welcome to another episode of the Truth About Real Estate Investing where it is my job to bring you lessons from the streets, provide you education on all things real estate investing, inspiration, and maybe some entertainment. This week we have a very special guest, a multiple time best selling author, the best selling Canadian real estate author in history but he doesn't just write, he knows what he's talking about. Don is a veteran investor, a teacher, a Philanthropist, market analyst and in his free time, Don pursues his passion which is organic farming and not just plants but livestock as in cows and such. Don has spoken to tens of thousands of people on stages all over North America, Australia, Ireland sharing his analysis, his strategies and his life philosophies. When the national media: CBC, BNN, CTV, Global News, Financial Post, Globe and Mail, Sun Media, etc… wants an unbiased comment on the real estate market, they go to Don in his role as Senior Analyst of the Real Estate Investment Network a company that has provided detailed forecasts and analysis of housing markets across Canada for over 24 years. Today, my goal is to build upon the interview we did, episode 2, 12 months ago, I suggest you listen to it if you haven't already. Today we dig more into economics, more specifically about the craziness going on in our major markets, what's causing it, that one book we all need to read (and no, it wasn't written by Don), what it was like investing in the 80's when interest rates were in the double digits and climbing.  We also get deeper into Don's story, to drag out some tips and strategies you may not have heard before.  You'll find this a fast-paced discussion, so I suggest you get your note paper ready.  Without further ado, let me welcome Don Campbell to the podcast. This episode is brought to you by the Real Estate Investment network or REIN for short. I've personally been a REIN member since 2008 and in Toronto on April 21st-23rd is the well renowned ACRE program. ACRE stands for Authentic, Canadian, Real Estate and it's the best weekend of real estate training I've attended and it's not thousands of dollars like other similar events. I like ACRE weekend so much this will be my tenth time in attendance, the education is that good and the networking is even better.  As a special gift to our listeners, founding partner of REIN, Don Campbell has provided you all a discount code to save $300 off the public's price at $687 which is already fantastic value so you listeners only pay $387 by entering discount code ERWINSGUEST when you purchase ticket from reincanada.com. Again that's April 21st-23rd for the best weekend in real estate investment training for $387. Link: http://info.reincanada.com/toronto-acre-2017#pricing

It's been tried by other countries and without much success, particularly when governments get involved. Where do you begin with this kind of effort in order to gain any credibility with the people you're trying to de-radicalize? Is the focus going to be exclusively on radicalizing by ISIS/AQ, or will the office also focus on other individuals/groups who attempt tor radicalize? Guest: Scott Newark. Following 9/11, he was named Ontario's Special Security Advisor and authored the province's perimeter security strategy. He served as Director of Operations for the Washington, DC Investigative Project on Terrorism and served as senior policy advisor to the federal Minister for Public Safety. He's also vice chair/operations of the National Security Group. - Next Tuesday, Toronto Sun and Sun Media investigative journalist Sue-Ann Levy's new book Underdog: Confessions of a Right-Wing Gay Jewish Muckraker, will be available on bookshelves. No one will be safe from Sue-Ann's attention. We were super excited when Don accepted our invitation to the show and we are even more excited after the interview!! I (Erwin) tried to be a good host and stay present but I couldn't help but take tons of notes as Don was handing out gold (figuratively)!!  I'll share them later in the show notes on our mrhamilton.ca website but we couldn't wait any longer to release this episode because: ACRE / SOS is coming April 15-17th to Toronto, link: http://info.reincanada.com/real-estate-sos-toronto-2016 As a favour to me, Don and the Real Estate Investment Network (R.E.I.N.), the hosts of ACRE / SOS are providing my guests a very special price of $287 plus tax!! Discount code: MRHAMILTON (no spaces) to be entered upon check out.  Thank you Don and REIN! If you don't know Don, he is the best-selling Canadian real estate author in history. But that is just the surface. He is also a veteran investor, a teacher, a Philanthropist & market analyst (and, if you're friends with Don on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/theREINman, you know he's an organic farmer). Don has spoken to tens of thousands of people on stages all over North America, Australia, Ireland sharing his analysis, his strategies and his life philosophies . When the national media: CBC, BNN, CTV, Global News, Financial Post, Globe and Mail, Sun Media, etc… wants an unbiased comment on the real estate market, they go to Don in his role as Senior Analyst of the Real Estate Investment Network, a company that has provided detailed forecasts and analysis of housing markets across Canada for over 23 years. My goal with the interview is to get deeper into his story, to drag out some tips and strategies you may not have heard before.  You'll find this a fast paced discussion, so I suggest you get your note paper ready and share it with your friends who are interesting in investing in real estate. You can stay in touch with Don Campbell via: Twitter: @DonRCampbell Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/thereinman Blog: www.DonRCampbell.com ... and we both hope to see you at ACRE / SOS

The Civilian Review and Complaints Commission report about RCMP action in private residences in High River, Alberta during and following the devastating June, 2013 flooding reveals hundreds of legally owned firearms were removed from those private residences by police without the requisite "legal authority." Firearms of law-abiding citizens were removed by police who had no warrants and without judicial oversight. Homes were "forcibly entered" as RCMP officers were ostensibly looking for flood victims to save. But some of those homes had no or little flood water activity or damage and there is evidence to suggest police looked in dresser drawers for people in need of saving. 609 firearms were taken, many of them legally and properly stored. Guests: Lorne Gunter. Sun Media. Investigated the High River gun seizures. Documentary: Broken Trust. Greg Kvisle. High River resident and real estate agent. Says RCMP stole family heirlooms, a rifle and shotgun they would have had to rummage through his basement to find. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
