Jeremy Boreing, co-creator of The Daily Wire, recently declared that the organization has officially parted ways with host Candace Owens, in a post on social media platform X. The news certainly surprised many, as Owens had risen to a position of significant influence within conservative circles and had a popular show under the Daily Wire banner. Nonetheless, the organization chose to abruptly announce her disengagement for motives that are not yet apparent. A succinct statement from Boreing has confirmed the departure news, with little detail provided: 'Our professional relationship with Candace Owens has concluded.' The abrupt nature of this announcement has piqued curiosity and left many speculating about the reasons behind. The textured tapestry of the conservative world has often been characterized by lively debate and disagreement, and this apparently sudden shift in professional relationships is no exception. Shortly after this news hit the public, Owens herself took to social media to confirm the split from The Daily Wire. In a remarkable display of fortitude, she highlighted her independence, tweeting: 'Yes, the whispers are accurate—I am finally able to fly solo.' This statement hints at an exciting future for Owens, as she mentioned upcoming news to be unveiled in the coming weeks. Rumors of a rift between Owens and Ben Shapiro, Editor Emeritus of The Daily Wire, had circulated in the past. The two made headlines for a disagreement about the Israel-Hamas conflict. With tensions simmering below the surface, Shapiro expressed considerable dissatisfaction with Owens' stance, labeling it as 'disgraceful' back in November 2023. A particular point of contention arose when Owens proposed that serving both God and money presented an insurmountable challenge. This sentiment did not sit well with Shapiro, prompting him, in no uncertain terms, to advocate for Owens' exit from the organization. The debate escalated to a level that no longer could be contained within the company's four walls. In response to Shapiro's critique, Owens defended her stance and accused Shapiro of demonstrating a lack of professional decorum and displaying overly emotional reactions. To her, his criticisms transcended the realm of public disagreement and crossed over into the personal territory. Calling him 'entirely inappropriate,' Owens did not shy away from expressing her sentiments. Further adding to their ideological rift, Owens contradicted Shapiro's accusation that she was not allowed to reference religious texts in defense of her argument. According to her, Shapiro's remarks constituted 'personal detractions' that did not warrant an intelligible response. A level playing field for intellectual discourse seemed to be what Owens was espousing. Owens additionally pointed out that this was not the first instance of a disagreement with Shapiro. The pair have diverged on more issues than one. Just as the diversity of viewpoints within a movement can be its strength, it can also lead to conflict between those who sit at opposite ends of the spectrum. Of the controversies, their differing perspectives on the COVID-19 vaccine and the Russia-Ukraine conflict are noteworthy. These topics have remained a potent source of contention within conservative circles, reflecting the range of interpretations and convictions housed under the single umbrella of conservatism. The core principle of free speech and open discourse allows for such diverse opinions to flourish within the conservative ecosystem. However, at times, this ideological plurality raises challenges in maintaining harmony among thought leaders. The departure of Owens from The Daily Wire could be seen as a manifestation of such internal dissensions. Nonetheless, it is crucial to view these disagreements not as a division but as a sign of vibrant debate within the conservative world. The departure of Owens, in this light, can be seen as indicative of the rich diversity of thought within the movement, and yet another proof of its thriving intellectual ecosystem. As Owens charts her course independently, the conservative movement will continue to engage with her ideas. Her journey might be separate from the Daily Wire moving forward, but her influence within the conservative discourse remains undisputed. We look forward to seeing the new directions Owens will explore and the debates she will inspire. In the days ahead, as both Owens and The Daily Wire process this parting, they will undoubtedly continue their respective missions within the broader conservative narrative without missing a beat. The path ahead promises diverse standpoints, engaging discourse, and perhaps, a few surprise twists. Although these developments bring a certain level of uncertainty, they also bring a sense of excitement for what the future holds. The conservative dialogue is far from being monolithic, and Owens' departure can be seen as another page turned in the ever-changing narrative of conservatism. The predictability is not always guaranteed in this ideology, but it is this very unpredictability that makes it so intriguing. St. Louis journalist Don Corrigan storms the American Popular Culture Association with his books exploring way more than journalistic topics - like ROAD KILL. Corrigan's book American Roadkill: Animal Victims of our Busy Highways is in the great animal rights tradition of Joseph Grinnell of the 1920s, who was alarmed at the animal carnage on America's new highways. Corrigan tells the squashed sad tales, and shares some positives: • The Saint Louis Zoo enlisting “citizen scientists” to identify high casualty frog and turtle crossings. • St. Louis Kinship Circle raising awareness of road accidents with pets and how to avoid such heartbreaking meet-ups with cars. • Sierra Clubs of the southeast, championing endangered pumas. • Possum Pouch Pickers, down south, rescuing baby possums from marsupial mothers mashed on roadways. Don Corrigan is Editor Emeritus of the Webster-Kirkwood Times, a weekly newspaper for St. Louis suburban communities. So I came up with a new trinity for our time and I called it soil, soul and society.” (Satish) “Human beings are literally soil beings. Human comes from the Latin ‘humus' and humus means soil. So human beings are soil beings. Our bodies are soil transformed.” (Satish) “We are all nature, there is no separation. We have to think about living in harmony with nature and making good use of nature not mis-use of nature, because we are nature.” (Satish) “Don't trust a philosophy that has not been tested by walking.” (Satish) “When you are walking you are free. You are a free spirit. Your body is free. Your mind is free. You are not bound.” (Satish) “When you are walking for peace, you are putting your body where your mouth is.” (Satish) “My friend and I decided to walk to the four nuclear capitols of the world. So we started from New Deli and we walked to Moscow, Paris, London and Washington DC. 8000 miles. 2.5 years.” (Satish) “If you are walking, even if in a city, if you are walking, you are free. Walk everyday if you want to experience and taste of freedom. When you are walking you carry no burden on your shoulders, you are not worried, you are just walking. By walking you connect with the soil, you connect with your soul, your spirit, your consciousness, your imagination, your answers come when you are walking. All your questions can be answered when you're walking.” (Satish) “Let go of fear and cultivate trust. Trust everybody and talk to everybody. People are good. Enemies are only creations of the mind.” (Satish) “If you have the state of mind of a pilgrim, then you trust. If hardship comes, if difficulties come, welcome it. This will make you strong. “ (Satish) Links Satish Kumar (Guest) Website: https://www.resurgence.org/satish-kumar/ David Pearl (Host) Website: https://www.davidpearl.net Website: https://www.wanderfulpodcast.com Intagram: @davidpearl_here Andrew Paine (Producer & Audio Engineer) Twitter: @ItPainesMe Instagram: @Sonicoyster

Synergos Cultivate the Soul: Stories of Purpose-Driven Philanthropy
What I loved about this conversation with Satish is learning how he has taken action his whole life to transform the world into a spiritual place; and how he sees the intersection between spirituality and ecology. He shares his view of philanthropy as moving from me to we, from and ego to eco. Peace-pilgrim, life-long activist, and former monk, Satish Kumar has been inspiring global change for over 50 years. He undertook a pilgrimage for peace, walking for two years without money from India to America for the cause of nuclear disarmament. Now in his 80s, Satish has devoted his life to campaigning for ecological regeneration and social justice. He is a world-renown author and international speaker, founder of The Resurgence Trust and Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist – a change-making magazine he edited for over 40 years. NCLA Reps The Daily Wire Against NLRB In this episode, Mark announces that NCLA represented The Daily Wire and persuaded NLRB not to pursue charges over Ben Shapiro's tweet. In a victory for social media users everywhere, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has cleared Ben Shapiro, Co-Founder and Editor Emeritus of The Daily Wire, of a meritless charge. A random Twitter user had claimed that Mr. Shapiro violated the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) when he posted a satirical tweet about a current news event. NCLA successfully defended The Daily Wire, LLC during pre-complaint investigations conducted by NLRB, resulting in a dismissal of the charge. NCLA commends NLRB for refusing to validate claims of wrongdoing by random individuals who were not “aggrieved” by the alleged unfair labor practice. CFPB Forces Home Providers to Lie to Tenants Vec updates the audience on NCLA's lawsuit, The Property Management Connection, LLC, et al. v. Dave Uejio, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, et al. CFPB is requiring that anyone who seeks to collect unpaid residential rent, including property management companies, real estate attorneys, or housing providers, must now lie to tenants who have been sued for unpaid rent and are subject to eviction. NCLA filed a lawsuit and motion for temporary restraining order against CFPB in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee for doubling down on the unlawful Halt Order issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last September. Loneliness has recently jumped to scholars' attention due to a number of longitudinal studies' results, showing its impact on health and quality of life of individuals. These evidences brought the UK Government to the appointment of a dedicated ministry. A number of other governments published national reports on this frightening phenomenon and its growing diffusion. All of these initiatives have stimulated the need for better knowledge on loneliness and its consequences on physical and mental health on different gender and age groups. So far, most attention has been dedicated to the problem of older adults; the Italian Psychogeriatric Association has dedicated the date of 15 November of every year to an “End Loneliness Day”. However, younger individuals seem also to appear very vulnerable to loneliness; the extreme isolation of Hikikomori people may well represent its peak representation. This presentation will particularly deal with the mental health side of the phenomenon, emphasising in particular influences on suicidal behaviour, possibly the most extreme consequence of thwarted belongingness. Today, raising awareness on the seriousness of loneliness for an individual's health and wellbeing appears today of paramount importance. Actions need to be taken at different levels to counteract the consequences of loneliness. Satish Kumar is an Indian British activist and speaker. He has been a Jain monk, nuclear disarmament advocate and pacifist. Now living in England, Kumar is founder and Director of Programmes of the Schumacher College international centre for ecological studies and is Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine. His most notable accomplishment is the completion, together with a companion, E. P. Menon, of a peace walk of over 8,000 miles from New Delhi to Moscow, Paris, London, and Washington, D.C., the capitals of the world's earliest nuclear-armed countries. He insists that reverence for nature should be at the heart of every political and social debate. Defending criticism that his goals are unrealistic, he has said, Look at what realists have done for us. They have led us to war and climate change, poverty on an unimaginable scale, and wholesale ecological destruction. Half of humanity goes to bed hungry because of all the realistic leaders in the world. I tell people who call me "unrealistic" to show me what their realism has done. Realism is an outdated, overplayed and wholly exaggerated concept. Satish talks about education, the beginnings of the small school and Schumacher college, the Indian perspective on Arts and many other things, a truly inspiring human. He points out in answer to my opening question; he is a human being, not a human doing. to find out more about Satish https://www.schumachercollege.org.uk/about/satish-kumar No Destination https://amzn.to/3rinG3b Ted Talk https://youtu.be/uSLUd0veioU To support the podcast and get access to features about guitar playing and song writing visit https://www.patreon.com/vichyland and also news for all the creative music that we do at Bluescamp UK and France visit www.bluescampuk.co.uk For details of the Ikaro music charity visit www.ikaromusic.com Big thanks to Josh Ferrara for the music

Dr. Patrick Corrigan is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology and a leading expert on the topic of Stigma. Dr. Corrigan has written more than 400 peer-reviewed journal articles, is Editor Emeritus of the American Journal of Psychiatric Rehabilitation, and Editor of Stigma and Health, a new journal published by the American Psychological Association. Dr. Corrigan is the author of many books, including The Stigma Effect: Unintended Consequences of Mental Health Campaigns, The Stigma of Disease and Disability: Understanding Causes and Overcoming Injustices, and is part of the team that developed the Honest, Open, Proud series which aims to reduce the stigma of mental illness. The lives of people with mental illness are worsened by stigma, thus leading to public prejudice, loss of self-worth, and negative implications for mental health and well-being. Stigma and discrimination can also worsen someone's mental health problems, and delay or impede their getting help which can impact their recovery. Social isolation, poor housing, unemployment and poverty are all linked to mental illness. Therefore, stigma and discrimination can exacerbate the cycle of mental illness. The National Consortium on Stigma and Empowerment (NCSE) is a research group meant to promote recovery by understanding stigma and promoting empowerment. The Consortium is located at the Illinois Institute of Technology with a collection of researchers at Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, Temple University, the University of Wisconsin, Illinois State University, and the University of Chicago. In this Just Go Play podcast episode, Matt Young speaks with Wade Gilbert on Bridging the gap between Research & Reality with Quality Sport.Dr. Wade Gilbert is an internationally renowned coaching consultant and sport scientist and an award-winning professor in the Department of Kinesiology at California State University – Fresno. Gilbert holds degrees in physical education, human kinetics, and education, and has taught and studied coaching and talent development at the University of Ottawa, University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA), and Fresno State. He is author of the highly acclaimed book Coaching Better Every Season and Editor Emeritus of the International Sport Coaching Journal.Coaching Better Every Season that is applicable for coaches, parents, and anyone who wants to be a better leader and team member. Wade combines his academics with real-life experiences to provide realistic advise on how to make improvements in sport organizations. The biggest challenge he experienced was realizing that organizations who may seem professional may not execute best practices. The downfall of this is having people who may not have the right experience be in certain roles. Decisions in sport organizations are often made based on emotional and financial investments so hear the discussion on how coaches, parents, and all stakeholders can work together to create a better environment including:Be patient: change doesn’t happen overnight. Educate yourself: listen and ask questions to understand why things are done the way they are. Credible Resources: share materials from credible resources to understand what can help impact grassroots sport experiences.Engaged Leadership: be involved and engage everyone in the process. Create a team environment that shares the same values and skills that are being taught to athletes (shared vision, communication, collaboration, etc.) Be inspired by the conversation on how to intentionally build a stronger organization that leads to quality sport experiences for kids. Dr Wade Gilbert is recognized for his contributions to the field include the Dorothy V. Harris Memorial Award from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, the Kristen Marie Gould Endowed Lecture on Sport for Children and Youth at Michigan State University, and the Cal Botterill Legacy Lecture at the University of Winnipeg. In addition to serving as consultant to many Fresno State and local high school coaches, Gilbert is a long-time advisor to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Coach Education Department and is the lead author of the USOPC Quality Coaching Framework. Today's guest on Working Man is Mark Albert. Mark is the Editor Emeritus of Modern Machine Shop Magazine, a publication he worked for from 1980 until 2018. In his nearly forty years writing about manufacturing, Mark has seen some tremendous changes in technology and technique, but he's also had a lot of time to discover the deep meaning of what it means to make things. On today's episode, we talk about how Star Wars, in its small way, has helped to perpetuate stereotypes about manufacturing, how modern manufacturing isn't what a lot of people think it is, why humility is a key traits for anyone who wants to learn anything, and what manufacturing can teach us about the nature of the Holy Trinity—yup, you read that last one right. Mark is a fascinating guy, and whether you make flanges or firecrackers, manifolds or muffins, he's going to change the way you think about making stuff.
In this show Prof. George will share with you his own personal journey of surviving multiple sclerosis and how the power of mindfulness has helped him and others. Getting a life threatening diagnosis can be devastating. Your entire world gets turned upside down, and you feel isolated and powerless. There is a point when you are in denial and refuse to acknowledge what’s happening. Or you get angry. You get angry at everyone and even yourself. How you react can have an impact on how things turn out later on. But what a lot of people don’t know, a state of non reaction can be beneficial to dealing with your crisis. In today’s show, Prof. George shares with you his research on lifestyle factors and reducing risk on neurological conditions, of which he has first-hand experience. Prof. George and I go deep into: Facing a Major Life Crisis Tools for Navigating Disruptions and Overwhelm The Benefits of Meditation Opportunities during the Coronavirus Crisis Getting Started with Meditation Amplifying your Practice On top of that, we engage in a fabulous conversation on how being an observer and avoiding judgment is crucial at this time when the world is facing a massive crisis brought upon by Coronavirus. For everyone out there, you won’t want to miss this. You always have a choice no matter what the world brings. There are opportunities that even a crisis brings. The key is to become more present and reconnect. You may have gotten used to how life has been and how things work. But life is cyclical. There are always ups and downs. So let go and accept that there is victory in accepting and opening yourself up to change. Listen To The Podcast Now. About Our Guest Professor George Jelinek is a professor and founder of the Neuroepidemiology Unit at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. This unit expressly evaluates modifiable risk factors that predict the progression of multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. He has served since 2017 as the Chief Editor for Neuroepidemiology in the journal Frontiers in Neurology, and he was Founding Editor – and is currently the Editor Emeritus – for Emergency Medicine Australasia. Prof. George also has the distinction of being the first Professor of Emergency Medicine in Australasia. Between 1987 and 2018, he published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, seven book forewords and eight books, and received more than 20 research grants. He is author of the life changing book, Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis, which recounts his research on the disease and how he applied what he discovered to his own life. Living With and Surviving Multiple Sclerosis Facing A Major Life Crisis Prof. George talks about his mother who died from multiple sclerosis. He shares about finding out he had the disease also. The scientific literature on treating multiple sclerosis was limited at that time and included few immune modifying medications. Professor Jelinek formulated a comprehensive lifestyle plan for himself he had adhered to until now. When facing a massive life adjustment, being in denial and refusing to face the reality of it is common. A mentor helped Prof. George to face the challenges of the life threatening diagnosis he received. It’s important when facing a really big challenge to give it space, be vulnerable, and allow things to come up rather than try to control the whole thing. Tools For Navigating Disruptions and Overwhelm Life is cyclical. There are highs and lows, and you have to learn to accept that. When you look back in your life, you’ll realize that the difficult times are when you experienced tremendous growth. The notion that people are stable and unchanging needs to be challenged. You need to understand that after this crisis your life won’t go back to the way it was. Meditation is a big part of Prof. George’s toolkit for dealing with moments of overwhelm. Research such as the work on mindfulness-based stress reduction by Prof. Jon Kabat-Zinn has already proven the benefits of regular meditation. Meditation takes a lot of practice to get good at watching without judging. It develops a compassionate acceptance of the good and the bad. The skill of being able to navigate the ups and downs of life accrue results over decades. Prof. George shares his foray into transcendental meditation when he was young and before he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Benefits of Meditation Meditation brought a gradual change in Prof. George’s attitude towards life and provided him with insight into things. The choice on how to respond and react is a byproduct of meditation. Meditation allows you to become more of an observer rather than reacting. Those dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic are feeling isolated and powerless, and it makes them feel that they don’t have a choice. The Opportunities During The Coronavirus Crisis This crisis has given you the time to do something you really enjoy doing and go deep into it. There’s a need to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Pain, anxiety, and friction only come up when you perpetuate thoughts of restrictions and not having a choice. Getting Started With Meditation To avoid nervousness and embarrassment, it’s better to start by joining a group. Having an experienced meditation teacher is good. But there are a number of meditation apps providing guided meditations. Meditation and exercise have both been proven to grow new cells in the hippocampus while the amygdala shrinks in size. Regular meditators have been able to mitigate the consequences of aging. Meditation can possibly be the antidote to dementia. Meditation allows you to become more resilient and grow and thrive during difficult times. Coming into the space and practicing are good ways to start with meditation. Muse meditation headband and the USC app are tools that also provide biofeedback for those who are more analytical and need data. But at some point, you wouldn’t need the tools and can continue the practice on your own. This time is a like a forced opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and our micro community. During this crisis, time has slowed down for people. Little things now assume some importance. It all comes down to having an attitude of thinking that there’s an opportunity here and you might as well make the most of it. There is victory to opening yourself up to opportunities. Amplifying Your Practice Prof. George lives an unstructured life and has learned to let go into the rhythm of life. He swims when he wants to and runs when he wants to. Some may need the space or triggers to transition into and build up their skill and behaviour. Practice is one thing. Being able to apply being non reactive and compassionate into your day-to-day life is the next step. Having a partner that supports you is important. It’s easy to do your practice and eat healthy when you’re in a retreat, everyone is doing it, and your food is prepared. Continuing that when you’re back home and exposed to people who might undermine your choices is harder. After this crisis, you might start to question the things that you used to do. There is a great impetus for us to thrive and grow as a society now. It’s better to be less tuned in to social media where it’s easy for people to spread confusion and misinformation. Focus on and reconnect with real things instead. Chad Dotson is joined this week by his most frequent co-host, Editor Emeritus of RedlegNation.com Bill Lack.
