The Herle Burly was created by Air Quotes Media with support from our presenting sponsor TELUS, as well as CN Rail, and Netflix Canada.Greetings, you curiouser and curiouser Herle Burly-ites! We're recording this show 3 days before E-day. And it's a bookend of sorts: We started off the election cycle here on The Herle Burly with a pollster pod to set the scene data-wise ... discuss the core issues as they were emerging, i.e. Trump and Tariffs ... look at the opening state of play ... and anticipate how each the Parties might respond.Today, we end with another pollster panel to discuss how all of that played out over the course of the last 5 weeks. What's been the biggest surprise of the campaign in the data? What, if anything, has been predictable? Are Carney, Poilievre and Singh campaigning differently today than they were at the opening bell, and if so, why? With me for this are 2 of the best: Greg Lyle and Dan Arnold.Greg is the Founder and President of the Innovative Research Group. He's built a long and lauded career at the intersection of public policy, communications and public opinion, and he regularly appears on the country's biggest media platforms to discuss his findings.Dan is currently Chief Strategy Officer at Pollara, who, if you're a regular listener, you know has been supplying daily numbers to our sister pod, the Curse of Politics. He also led research strategy for the Liberal Party for their victories in 2015, 2019 and 2021. Fans of our Air Quotes Media universe will also know Dan from his hosting gig on Race to Replace.Thank you for joining us on #TheHerleBurly podcast. Heading to Argentina this week, to see what true crimes we can find there, and boy did we find a few. Starting off with a wild yet mostly harmless robbery.Remember our first heist episode, 10,000 years ago? Neither do we, but we know Kelsey's case had fake mustaches, just like this case, but this one sees your fake mustache, and raises you a fake yarmulke! It's kind of bonkers really, with Ninja turtle inspired plans and themed names, negotiations by Pizza the hut*, and elaborate plans, this case is a real Oceans 7-11 meets the Italian-American job! Then it's a well-known murder case of Maria Marta Garcia Belsunce, a prominent sociologist and VP of Missing Children Argentina. Except at first it wasn't considered a murder, and then it was, and things got way more complicated from there. Convictions, appeals, cover-ups, and unprecedented court rulings, this one is a doozy of a case as well. But screw you, Netflix (Canada) for keeping us from the real details! Why do you always screw over your neighbours to the north. At least Kelsey's case we can watch still. LOLOh and enjoy 8 minutes of cat outtakes and extra crap at the end, you're welcome and lucky I got some out of the episode itself!!!Darkcast Promo of the week: Conspiring to Argue Pod
The Herle Burly was created by Air Quotes Media with support from our presenting sponsor TELUS, as well as CN Rail, and Netflix Canada.Alright, you curiouser and curiouser Herle Burly-ites! We're recording this one early on Good Friday and I don't want to keep our gracious guest here for too long. David MacNaughton, former Ambassador to the United States joins us, for a timely conversation on Canada-U.S. relations. A brief bio to start: Mr. MacNaughton is currently the President of Palantir Technologies Canada and was formerly the Chair of StrategyCorp and Principal Secretary to the Premier of Ontario. He served as Canada's Ambassador to the United States from March 2016 to August 2019 ... getting a close-up view of President Trump in his first term. It's a rare and expert perspective, and that's precisely where I want to go with this over the next hour. Mr. MacNaughton has been in the room with President Trump during trade negotiations. I want to get into some detail about what these negotiations are actually all about. What industries are affected? Canada talks about being strong but how does that manifest itself? In Mr. MacNaughton's experience, what tactics are likely to work with President Trump and what do not? And lots more.Thank you for joining us on #TheHerleBurly podcast. This week, we're joined by a guest for the very first time, which is exciting! Unfortunately they have brought with them an unwatched DVD from their own collection which was excrutiating! JACKSON McDONALD (Roxy Fever) guides us back into bio-pics with a movie that at times feels like a made-for-TV Ray, 2009's Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Kimberly Elise, and Aunjanue Ellis. It's a movie Jackson believes found its way onto his shelf via his father-in-law, and it's not something we recommend anyone watch before listening along. You can hear more of Jackson's film takes on his own movie podcast, History Lesson: Part II with co-host Tyler Shipley. If you're a complete masochist who does want to see the movie before listening to the podcast, Gifted Hands is currently streaming on Netflix Canada at the time of publication. We'll be back next week with Ben Affleck in The Accountant.

Saul Blinkoff shares his story of how he made his dream of becoming a Disney animator a reality. From an early age, Saul had clarity on his dream. When he was young, Saul's mom took him to Disney to find out how to become a disney animator, and it was there that he found the first steps of the recipe to create his dream of becoming a Disney animator. Testing out the process, Saul decided to apply to Disney. When he got the rejection letter, he was just so happy that they knew his name and knew he was alive. After both him and his best friend Andy applied, Saul's second time, Andy got the call back and got the internship. Saul didn't make it, so he called up the head of Disney and asked the million dollar question, "Why didn't I get in?". He then got the next steps of the recipe that he needed. He exceeded expectations. Then, the day arrived, Saul got the call. He got into Disney!Saul Blinkoff is a Hollywood filmmaker who has worked for many high profile clients including; THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS, NETFLIX and AMAZON. Sometimes you've got to embrace something that's ever so slightly bent...Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, Hotel Artemis follows the Nurse (Jodie Foster), who runs a secret, members-only hospital for criminals.Released in the middle of the summer tent pole season of 2018, Hotel Artemis never really went anywhere...but as we always say around here, that's kind of what the streaming services are for. From writer/director Drew Pearce, with at the very least a very interesting B+ cast with Jodie Foster, Sterling K Brown, Dave Bautista, Jenny Slate and others is an underappreciated slice of weird that flashed so much greatness coming down the line for many involved.I sit down with film critic, podcast host and general man about town Norm Wilner to discuss this gem which fell through so many cracks and is on Netflix Canada as we speak.

We also learn the answer to the question: would Shadow and Bone be better if Dave were part of the show? Listeners will get a chance to hear Dave “act” against Alina Starkov herself!

In this week's podcast Hugo and Bola discuss the fact that Warner Brothers have been relentless in wanting to release "Tenet" and have finally done so in the UK soon it'll be in North America too. AMC Theatres are selling tickets for 15 cents to lure people back in. 2020 tickets at 1920 prices? "Mulan" is coming to video-on-demand via Disney+ for $30. Is it worth it? They also speak about how bad 2018's "The Predator" was including set insights. The siblings that wrote and directed the films, The Wachowskis, revealed "The Matrix" was originally conceived as a gender allegory with an identity message revolving around the pills. Neither are overly familiar, but they speak about John Wick's sequels and David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive" (surprisingly not available on Netflix Canada, Amazon Prime video Canada or Canada's Google Play store at the time of publishing this), Paul Thomas Anderson and how underrated Michael Mann is. Episode 278 of Mic’d Up Toronto. Topics include: -The tipping problem: We dive into the world of tipping. Clearly the current system is very flawed so what can be done to improve it? Are people in the service industry deserving of the tips they get? We also consider the crazy idea of abolishing tipping entirely. Could we potentially see more and more businesses decide to remove the practice of tipping altogether? -Netflix goes up: Netflix Canada has decided to increase their prices for all 3 monthly subscription tiers. The standard and premium plans are each increasing by $3/month. Is Netflix taking their customer base for granted by constantly raising their prices? Also what does the future hold when it comes to Netflix, cable and television? -All this plus so much more! Credit for intro music: Fireworks by Jahzzar From the free music archive CC - BY – SA

You just never know what life can bring. Gavin John is a 30 year old freelance photojournalist based out of Calgary, AB, Canada. He graduated from the Photojournalism program at SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary and has freelanced for the PostMedia paper The Calgary Sun since 2013.
