She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life's complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job. She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection. But Molly's orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr. Black himself dead in his bed. Before she knows what's happening, Molly's unusual demeanour has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle. Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr. Black. But will they be able to find the real killer before it's too late? Both a Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different—and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart.

MC Design Academy is designed to be a space where I get to share my expertise with you, where you'll get to learn all about visual merchandising, design, display, retail, and everything in between. Come along as I practice my craft and be sure to like, subscribe, and follow our socials to keep updated. See you in the merchandising land of MC Design Academy!A printmaking graduate from the Ontario College of Art and Design, Michelle Galletta is the founder of Kiriki Press. The idea was inspired by Michelle wanting to make her niece Madeleine an embroidered doll but couldn't find a pattern anywhere. Michelle decided to learn how to embroider so she could make her a set of three owl dolls to play with. It was difficult to find contemporary embroidery patterns that weren't overly simplistic, let alone embroidered doll patterns, so Michelle ended up designing her own. As she was making Madeleine's owls, she became fascinated with embroidery: the vibrant colors, the countless variety of stitches, and the calming effect it had on her. After several years of improving her embroidery skills (and a ton of design work), Kiriki Press was born. It was developed in the hopes of giving others the chance to make something precious with their own hands. Kiriki Press was launched in December 2012 with seven patterns, and the collection has grown over the years and is currently expanding to include a range of other DIY products. Michelle was chosen as a featured seller on Etsy and has been a contributor to Mollie Makes books and magazines. The company has been featured in Uppercase, Canadian Living, Chatelaine, Bust Magazine, and Homespun, as well as many other print publications and craft blogs. Here, Michelle takes us inside her shop and shares how she moved from her prototype dolls into full production. She also talks about how she transitioned from what she thought was her dream job into starting a business of her own. Michelle shares her experience at her very first show, how she handled business growth through the pandemic, and where she finds inspiration. What's Inside:How Michelle moved from prototype to full productionMichelle's experience at her first showWhere Michelle finds inspirationMentioned In This Episode:www.kirikipress.comKiriki Press on InstagramKiriki Press on FacebookKiriki Press on Pinterest

In today's episode, we discuss the concept of "unschooling", a learner-directed educational approach popularized by John Holt, contrasting it with traditional schooling.Traditional? Actually what we know as "unschooling" was considered pretty normal until the Industrial Revolution introduced the concept of the 8-hour work day, parents working far from home. What to do with the kids?Voila! The modern school environment was born. And while there are some pretty good public and even private institutions, even the best of intentions can't undo basic humanity and how we're programmed to learn how to live life, learn a trade or a profession, etc.Our guest, Judy Arnall, is the author of 'Unschooling to University'. Judy shares her journey into unschooling driven by her dissatisfaction with authoritarian school environments and her commitment to non-punitive parenting.Judy explains the benefits of unschooling, such as fostering a child's innate curiosity and self-directed learning, and addresses common concerns like gaps in knowledge and the role of screens in education. We also touch on the practicalities of unschooling, such as transitioning to formal learning for university preparation and overcoming societal misconceptions about educational authority. The conversation includes Judy's insights into brain development, discipline versus punishment, and the advantages of personalized, interest-driven education for children.Be sure to tune in to my follow-up interview with Judy which focuses exclusively on the concept of non-punitive parenting. If you're exasperated with trying to get your kids to "do the right thing," you might want to give it a listen! In this interview with Judy, you'll discover:01:59 Judy's Journey into Unschooling04:04 The Concept of Discipline vs. Punishment05:04 Critique of Traditional Schooling Methods07:21 Impact of Traditional Schooling on Children08:14 Unschooling and Special Needs09:28 Common Objections to Unschooling15:09 The Role of Video Games in Education18:43 Transitioning to Unschooling24:44 Challenges and Considerations in Unschooling26:22 Addressing Concerns About Unschooling26:37 Teaching Commitment and Grit27:22 Personal Experiences with Commitment29:53 Managing Screen Time and Activities31:30 Transitioning to Formal Education33:49 The Role of Khan Academy35:42 Homeschooling vs. Traditional Schooling43:10 Parental Rights in Education45:48 Resources for Unschooling46:59 Conclusion and Final ThoughtsResources mentioned:Unschooling to UniversityJudy Arnall's websiteAbout the guest:Judy Arnall, BA, CCFE (Certified Canadian Family Life Educator), DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster) is an international award winning professional keynote speaker and a well-known Canadian parenting expert, having given advice for television interviews on CBC, CTV, and Global as well as publications such as Chatelaine, Today's Parent, Canadian Living, Parents magazine, and newspapers including The Globe and Mail, Sun Media and Postmedia News.Judy is certified in the Brain Story and many training programs such as The Growing Brain: 0-5, by ZeroToThree.org, Terrific Toddlers by AHS-Alberta Health Services, P.E.T. As born-and-raised (but recovering!) people pleasers, we have experienced first-hand how this habit can contribute to burnout, resentment, getting taken advantage of, and appeasing people who don't respect our boundaries. But it's time to break the cycle, because the key to happiness and success isn't trying to please everyone… that's actually the key to failure. So we called in the expert, Kristina Virro. Kristina is a Registered Psychotherapist and Holistic Nutritionist, who is dedicated to reducing stigma around mental health and helping people learn effective strategies to feel less stuck and more empowered. She provides psychotherapy and nutritional counselling at her wellness clinic, Fresh Insight, and she has shared her expertise with major outlets like CP24, Canadian Living, and Global News Live. On this episode, we welcome Patty Krawec. Patty is an Anishinaabe and Ukrainian writer from Lac Seul First Nation. She is the cohost of the Medicine for the Resistance podcast and cofounder of the Nii'kinaaganaa Foundation, which collects funds and disperses them to Indigenous people and organizations. The importance of a good support system in your life is incredible. The benefits of having supportive people who want you to succeed, appreciate you, cheer you on, give you advice and tough love, want the best for your wellbeing and growth…the list goes on and on, are physical and mental. Look for the truly supportive people in your life, recognize their roll in your circle and celebrate it! At the same time, take note of the consistently negative vibes from people in your life that you just don't resonate with anymore…we talk ways to find support, ways to make boundaries and set intentions for the not so support people, and the how to get it all done. This episode is so important, we hope you hear some strong takeaways that you will start thinking about so you can live the life you want to live!—————Real Tip of the Day: Reality BitesAcknowledging that you can not change anyone else is key, you can only change you. Someone has to want to change to have change, it can not be forced. Coming to terms with the reality that you might actually have to lose a friendship or relationship to gain more positive relationships is a must. Think about who is in your circle and who you want to stay vs who you want to decrease energy exchange with.Lets make it EXTRA! Who me? Couldn't be!Sometimes it takes two to tango! Take time to reflect on your creations on how you contribute to negatives situations. Does someone else energy rub off you on? Do their vibes spark something less than appealing in you? Be aware. Hey - I've got a really great episode with my friend and colleague, Ciara Foy. We are talking frankly all about weight loss and health optimization for women. Oh … so January of us — but it's not. This episode is an honest and powerful conversation around how Ciara empowers women to take impeccable care of themselves so that they can maintain the energy, motivation and passion it takes to go after their dreams while curating each day … and therefore the life, they choose. Ciara is a Women's Weight Loss + Hormone Expert. She's also the author of the Amazon Bestseller "Empowered by Food" Heal Your Hormones, Balance Stress and Become Unstoppable and the founder of “The Empowered Feminine” podcast. On her own health journey, Ciara faced and overcame weight gain, burnout, depression, and a self-destructive mindset. She now uses those experiences to help women create room for self-care and get back on track to become their happiest, healthiest selves. In this episode we talk about: We talk about mindset and actionable strategies that are fundamental to the work she does with women. Ciara's journey to date and how she came to the work she does with women. Ciara's 1:1 relationships with women and where she starts when she begins working with them. It's all about their mindset, subconscious and limiting beliefs and understanding why they haven't had the success they are ultimately desiring. When Ciara is teaching women about weight loss, what she is actually teaching them. It goes beyond counting calories but truly understanding how food works and all the other factors that contribute to a healthy metabolism and energy management. Ciara shares the most common myths or untruths that so many of us tell ourselves that keep us stuck in unhealthy or unproductive patterns. The role of protein in keeping and building muscle mass [and why its vital to your health and metabolism], blood sugar regulation and how much we need. Why sleep is one of your most important modulators of good health and optimal weight management. Exercise and movement - how much, how often and what type. What it's like to work with Ciara in her 1:1 or group containers [and why she's so good at the work she does with women]. Dive in and enjoy the episode. More about Ciara: When Ciara is not working out, spending time in nature or with her two daughters —she's empowering women through her podcast "The Empowered Feminine", speaking on virtual stages and providing clinical evaluation and coaching to women all over the world, from Bay Street to Wall Street, Florida to Spain and beyond.
