Successful Life Podcast

Guest Profile: Jessica McLaren; Owner of the company “Next Level Life”, Family and relationship coach, and a community builder. Today’s Episode Summary: Today’s guest, Jessica McLaren, transitioned from being a principal teacher to an entrepreneur. She came into the world of entrepreneurship to create an impact on the world and she is doing that very beautifully. Jessica is traveling around the world to help other people to elevate their level of success. Today Jessica is sharing with us her thoughts on becoming an entrepreneur, her travel experience during the pandemic, and her journey of personal transformation. A lot of people look at entrepreneurs and fascinate their lives and fame but they don’t see their immense hard work. They just see the tip of an iceberg and assume that entrepreneurs have a lot of money and they can do whatever they want to do. But the truth is, being an entrepreneur is not as easy as it appears. It is a difficult path and it is almost synonymous with going through a grind. But if you are an entrepreneur by your choice and you are doing something that you love - regardless of how many hours you are putting in - and your work is truly aligned with your core values then you don’t feel the hard work. Rather you willingly put hours into your work. Jessica says that to achieve success in life you don’t need to live the way society expects you to live. You don’t need to do a 9 to 5 job, you don't need to earn a certain level of income to be happy, and you don't need to retire at a certain age - work as many days as you want. Live your life the way you want to live it and make your own decisions because we achieve success only when we live authentically as our true selves, at our soul level, and in alignment with our true mission, purpose, and passion in life. But if we put our energy into something that doesn't relate to us then we cannot be successful. Don’t avoid or suppress your emotions because emotion is a powerful tool and every human emotion serves a greater purpose. Moreover, live in the present moment and don’t bother yourself about the past because you cannot change it. Let your past go and enjoy your present. You cannot change your past but you can manipulate your future through visualization and manifestation. Also, don’t try to control the uncontrollable events of your life and surrender in front of uncontrollable things and then see the magic. Listen to the podcast to learn in detail how all of these things work together and take you toward success. Tune in and enjoy the conversation. What You Will Learn from this Episode: Why Jessica McLaren started her own coaching business? Jessica’s trip story during the pandemic. Pregnant in Prison with Jessica Kent Jessica's childhood was a constant struggle. She was bullied, suffered from multiple mental health disorders, and came from a home filled with addiction. Jessica recalls taking her first drink at only twelve years old and the instant relief she felt. "Alcohol made me happy, confident, and comfortable in my own skin." From then on, it was a fast and steady progression to pain pills, and eventually heroin. To support her addiction and avoid the poverty that so many around her were experiencing, Jessica started selling drugs. This decision eventually landed her in prison. What she didn't know when she got locked up is that she was pregnant. Nine months later, she would give birth to her daughter while shackled to a hospital bed. After serving her sentence, Jessica got a bachelor's degree and started making videos about her journey. Today Jessica is over 9 years sober, her YouTube channel has over 300,000 subscribers, and she's doing her part to change the conversation surrounding prison reform. A Sober Girl's Guide with Jessica Jeboult As a club DJ, Jessica was living what most people might think is the dream life. She got paid to travel the world and party, but she felt like her life lacked purpose, and her growing substance abuse issue wasn't helping. After 10 years of failing to get sober, the consequences started to grow in the form of gripping anxiety and depression. "The nudges were turning into shoves." While preparing to depart for a big gig at a luxury resort, she started to think about all of the things she wanted to do and how much she would enjoy herself. In that moment of planning, Jessica had the realization that alcohol didn't fit anywhere into this plan. It was then that she made a decision to get and stay sober. Jessica started sharing about her experiences early in sobriety, which ultimately lead to the creation of "A Sober Girls Guide" blog and podcast. Today Jessica and co-host Derek dish on macronutrient info and how working with the Keto WOE helps you to optimize our bodies and their usage of these 3 macros: fat, protien and carbohydrates.  Why does low fat and low carb not work. Why are all carbohydrates treated the same by your body?  What happens when we listen to bad advice to eat too much protien. What...no "heart healthy whole grains" needed?  That's right! Your body will literally make all the carbs that we need if we don't take enough in and we certainly do not need to ever eat carbs in the form of grains and sugar.  We briefly touch on fasting, Intermitent Fasting and Apoptosis. Why do you want that?   Tip of the Day: ever tried Cyrotherapy?  Jessica loves this cold treatment.  After a month of trying it she has really noticed the effects.   Thanks for listening and don't miss the next episode where we are going to talk about the much requested hormone health topic!  Don't forget to check out Jessica's nutrional coaching info at www.jessicatye.com or email her directly at jessica@jessicatye.com.  She is available to coach anyone around the country and can work with you in a variety of ways of eating including Paleo, Keto and Fasting. She will be happy to work with you at a pace you are comfortable with.  Facebook: jessicatyenutrition Instagram @thatketoblonde

When it comes to rare disease and chronic illness, early diagnosis is important for many reasons - but even more so when a person has a condition known as pulmonary hypertension (PH). Why? If left untreated, death is almost certain - and the average length of survival without treatment is three years. http://www.SmartPlanning101.com/28 **Doctors are commonly taught to look for horses, not zebras. But what if it really IS a zebra?** The good news is that there are more and more options for treatment of this rare condition, but like all rare diseases, getting to the proper diagnosis is key. Even if you don't have PH, however, this episode is important. My guest, Jessica Armstrong (see bio below) and I discuss many topics that are applicable to almost anyone dealing with an illness and the medical profession - how and why you need to take control of your own care! In This Episode, You Will Learn: The many reasons why rare diseases are misdiagnosed Ways to combat misdiagnosis and lack of proper treatment - how to take control What tools are available to assist you - and get a great tool for FREE Jessica's personal story and how it reflects that of many others The importance of community and reaching out Why living with "invisible illness" is particularly frustrating! What is Pulmonary Hypertension? Pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the lungs, which impacts patients of a number of other chronic illnesses, including: 32-85% of patients with Pulmonary Fibrosis up to 40% of patients with left heart disease 15-20% of patients with HHT 8-12% of Scleroderma patients 3-5% of patients who have previously suffered a pulmonary embolism 0.5-9% of Lupus patients ...it is also applicable to many people that have my rare disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis. About Early Diagnosis Campaign Manager Jessica Armstrong early diagnosis Jessica Armstrong is the Early Diagnosis Campaign Manager for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association In 2011, Jessica Armstrong was serving in Afghanistan when she suddenly became unable to breathe and collapsed. Four months later she was diagnosed with Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension and told that, unless she underwent a dramatic 10 hour open heart surgical procedure, she wouldn’t live beyond the next five months. After she received that life-saving surgery, a cousin of Jessica's died of undiagnosed and untreated PH. This traumatic event caused Jessica to re-evaluate and dedicate her life to helping others with this deadly condition, to survive and thrive as she has. Today Jessica serves as manager of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s Early Diagnosis Campaign and advocates for patients of pulmonary hypertension and other rare diseases.

Today Jessica is back to talk about the concept of chemistry in dating in urban US culture. Jessica is going to tell us how to know if we actually have chemistry with someone. Chemistry: A magnetic pull between two people where you seem to understand the other person and something is different about that person to you.  Two different types of chemistry: Slow burn chemistry: You start out as friends and then chemistry and attraction gradually builds over time. Features of the other person that seemed strange or unattractive initially start to become endearing and attractive. Quick chemistry/limerance: This is more of an infatuation. Jessica thinks that online dating and set ups reward this type of attraction. These connections can be really intense at first and then can fizzle out and not end well. At the same time, sometimes these attractions can work in the long run.   What about in your culture? What are your deal breakers when it comes to dating? In your culture, how much influence do your parents and family have when it comes to your choice of a partner?   Here are some dating vocabulary words that we talked about today: Limerance Lukewarm feelings Slow burn chemistry Quirks (personality and physical) Deal breakers Red Flag     Jessica Coyle has been teaching English since 2007. She received her Master’s in TESOL in 2013, finishing with a professional project researching the use of improvisational comedy teaching techniques to teach English as a second language. She has studied and performed improv comedy all over Korea, China, Canada and the United States.
