Children are much more adaptable than is often expected of them, but they are also aware of much more than their parents may think. Jessica Leger, clinical social worker, play therapist, and our guest on today's show, describes children as having the capacity to be “emotional sponges.” This means that it is vital that parents, whether they are getting divorced or going through a tough time in their marriage, ensure that their children are protected from the brunt of the adult issues being experienced. As a divorced parent herself, and through her work with many children of divorced parents, Jessica has valuable advice for how parents can soften the blow of separation for their children. That being said, there are many circumstances where children will need additional support, and Jessica shares the types of behaviors which signal that a child is not coping well with the changes, and the kind of help they may require. Overview: Testing isn’t something that many people enjoy doing, but Jessica Sachs is an exception. Jessica is the tech lead on the component testing team (which spans across four time zones and is fluent in 8 languages) at Cypress, and she is so excited about the developments that have been taking place in this space. In today’s episode Jessica explains the four main steps involved in component testing, the first thing she does when making something testable and why your answer should always be a hard yes if you are asked whether you do TDD. Jessica is also writing a course for Vue Mastery, and she shares with us what the course entails and how it will help alleviate a problem that people in her position regularly encounter. You’ll also hear Jessica and the panels’ thoughts on XPath, E to E tests, and Internet Explorer, and we end off with a wide range of unusual picks for the week! Key Points From This Episode: - How Jessica and the panel feel about test writing. - Jessica’s current role at Cypress.io, and the most euphoric moment of her career. - The four steps involved in component testing. - Real World Testing; an explanation of the course Jessica is writing for Vue Mastery. - A common problem that testers encounter. - Why Jessica doesn’t mock the Vuex, router or any plugin. - The first thing Jessica does when making something testable. - Making code more testable; what Jessica looks for. - Approaches to writing E to E tests. - Why XPath was invented and why it’s such a mess. - Jessica’s first code language (an obscure one that she is proud of!). - One of the toughest interview questions Jessica has been asked. - What your answer should always be when someone asks, “Do you do TDD?” - Where the strength of Cypress component testing lies. - Diversity in Jessica’s team. - Why Cypress isn’t going to support Internet Explorer. - This week’s picks; including drunk darts, anti-static hair brushes, and a show about creating animals. Tweetables: - “Getting the component first mounted is the biggest hurdle. I can't stress that enough.” — @jessicasachs [0:05:13] - “The situation you find yourself in is that of many developers, where you inherit an application where the person wasn't thinking about testability. And that's not an uncommon scenario. That's pretty normal.” — @jessicasachs [0:11:32] - “I don't mock the Vuex router, the Vuex or router, or any plugin. I just treat it like it's real. I find that mocking both removes you from what will actually happen in production, as well as makes your test really coupled to the source code.” — @jessicasachs [0:13:15] - “The first thing with making things testable; anything that's a side effect that executes immediately when you import it needs to be a function.” — @jessicasachs [0:15:28] Resources mentioned - Cypress (https://www.cypress.io/) - Vueconf US (http://vueconf.us/) - New Creation Soda (https://newcreationsoda.com) - Brush with Bamboo (https://zerowastestore.com/products/bamboo-hair-brush) (ZeroWasteStore) - Gravity Maze: Falling Marble Logic Maze Game (https://www.thinkfun.com/products/gravity-maze), ThinkFun - Clubhouse Games (Nintendo Switch) (https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/clubhouse-games-51-worldwide-classics-switch/) - Vue Mastery (https://www.vuemastery.com/) - Vue Styleguidist (https://vue-styleguidist.github.io/) - Vue i18n (https://vue-i18n.intlify.dev/) - What Query Selector Should I Use?, Kent C. Guest Profile: Jessica McLaren; Owner of the company “Next Level Life”, Family and relationship coach, and a community builder. Today’s Episode Summary: Today’s guest, Jessica McLaren, transitioned from being a principal teacher to an entrepreneur. She came into the world of entrepreneurship to create an impact on the world and she is doing that very beautifully. Jessica is traveling around the world to help other people to elevate their level of success. Today Jessica is sharing with us her thoughts on becoming an entrepreneur, her travel experience during the pandemic, and her journey of personal transformation. A lot of people look at entrepreneurs and fascinate their lives and fame but they don’t see their immense hard work. They just see the tip of an iceberg and assume that entrepreneurs have a lot of money and they can do whatever they want to do. But the truth is, being an entrepreneur is not as easy as it appears. It is a difficult path and it is almost synonymous with going through a grind. But if you are an entrepreneur by your choice and you are doing something that you love - regardless of how many hours you are putting in - and your work is truly aligned with your core values then you don’t feel the hard work. Rather you willingly put hours into your work. Jessica says that to achieve success in life you don’t need to live the way society expects you to live. You don’t need to do a 9 to 5 job, you don't need to earn a certain level of income to be happy, and you don't need to retire at a certain age - work as many days as you want. Live your life the way you want to live it and make your own decisions because we achieve success only when we live authentically as our true selves, at our soul level, and in alignment with our true mission, purpose, and passion in life. But if we put our energy into something that doesn't relate to us then we cannot be successful. Don’t avoid or suppress your emotions because emotion is a powerful tool and every human emotion serves a greater purpose. Moreover, live in the present moment and don’t bother yourself about the past because you cannot change it. Let your past go and enjoy your present. You cannot change your past but you can manipulate your future through visualization and manifestation. Also, don’t try to control the uncontrollable events of your life and surrender in front of uncontrollable things and then see the magic. Listen to the podcast to learn in detail how all of these things work together and take you toward success. Tune in and enjoy the conversation. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and for this episode Andrew and Michelle have offered the mic to Jessica, Shelley and Melia at Hygiene Edge. They spoke with a pediatric hygiene specialist and traded tips and tricks for dental hygiene educators who work with children. Jessica began her hygiene career—even if she technically wasn’t a dental hygienist at the time—in a pediatric office. Shelley has worked with a wide range of pediatric patients in private practices over the years, and now instructs the next generation of hygienists on working with children and adolescents. Melia has worked in dental hygiene for over a decade and experiences the pediatric side of her profession when bringing her daughter to appointments. They spoke with Brittnee Thibault, who’s both a resident pediatric hygiene specialist and a clinical instructor for hygiene students. In this episode, our guests discuss how to best describe an injection without freaking out your young patient, impress the importance of an “I’m the boss” voice, and explain how a little fidget spinner can go a long way to keeping your patient happy. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Interview starts: 16:05 - Melia’s fun experience bringing in her daughter to get a tongue-cut done. - Brittnee discusses how she came to work in a pediatric office. - Why it’s unusual to actually have a dental hygienist working in a pediatric office in Utah—and why these offices should have a hygienist on staff. - What Shelley is hearing from her pediatric students on how their clinic experience differs from what they’re being taught. - Why Jessica “bailed” the first time she had to administer a pediatric injection. - How you can build up your students’ confidence before they begin practicing on children. - What instructors can do to ensure a successful appointment for the child, student and educator. - How you can make the appointment experience more comforting for both kids and their parents. QUOTES: “It’s very important to know how to treat those little ones all the way up to adolescence.” “I love this office and I love pediatrics.” “Replace those scary words with things that aren’t as scary.” “As an instructor... one aspect I’m always trying to bring in is helping them to include the parent in the conversation as well.” “Setting those expectations before the patient’s in the chair, with the student, I feel like makes the appointment a lot better.” “Just take a breath... go with the flow.” “Don’t ever forget that you’re not alone and you’re part of a good team.” LINKS: Hygiene Edge - https://www.hygieneedge.com/ A Tale of Two Hygienists homepage - https://ataleoftwohygienists.com/ AToTH on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/aTaleOfTwoHygienists/ AToTH on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ataleoftwohygienists AToTH on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/atoth/?originalSubdomain=ca This episode includes the sound effect “cheering-16.flac” by Halleck found at FreeSound.org - https://freesound.org/people/Halleck/sounds/18665/

You might remember Jessica, Matt, and Steve discussing this in previous episodes. It's the meeting Steve had with the bishopric council to decide how he moved forward in his relationship with the church and Jessica. At this point, he still had hope that they could be together as he was unwilling to accept himself fully. A disciplinary council meeting is conducted when a church member has sinned in a way that the church feels they need to be sat in front of a council of priesthood holders. The goal is to figure out how much discipline needs to happen to that individual, and how far that discipline goes. So the individual, and sometimes spouses and families come to this disciplinary council and share what the story is. And then, the members of this council's ward discuss how a disciplinary timeline works in the individual's favor. Steve shares how he felt going into the meeting and what his hopes and fears were. He also discusses the aftermath of feeling completely disconnected from God and unsure of his next steps.Highlights of the discussion: Why Jessica stuck by Steve’s side through everything (06:17)How Matt feels about Jessica and Steve being so close (08:30)Mistakes that have been made establishing this relationship (13:45)What the disciplinary council is (20:25)Steve prepares to meet with the stake president (26:20)His biggest concern going into the meeting (28:23)Steve felt so alone after leaving the disciplinary council meeting (32:10)His feelings on whether he regrets going through it all (40:36)Additional Resources:www.Linktr.ee/TheBoldLogic--Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook!--You can find the podcast on Apple, Google, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you listen to podcasts. If you haven’t already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!

This is Save the Date, a dating survival kit from Coffee Meets Bagel. Each episode, our Chief Dating Officer Dawoon Kang will sit down with a guest expert to tackle some of your most burning dating questions and explore what it takes to ultimately reach your goals: going on great dates that lead to a lasting, serious relationship. SHOW NOTES: The similarities between sales and dating [2:23] A curse does exist in dating, but it’s not what you think [4:28] Why self-knowledge is critical to dating [6:22] How to shift your mindset around “prospecting” in dating [8:07] Why it’s so important to end a date at the height of impulse [10:04] How the CEE factor and mirroring can relax you on a date [12:58] The difference between playing a game and strategizing [16:18] Why Jessica wrote Cursed [17:53] What it means to be self-absorbed in dating and why this is such a big risk [20:47] While “being present” may be overused today, there are good reasons why it is essential on any date [25:22] Practical next steps to immediately improve your dating prospects [28:25] What to do if the other person isn’t ready for a relationship but seems interested? [30:08] What do you do when the date starts to go bad? [31:20] The best dating advice Jessica has ever received [34:42] Once piece of advice that will help people looking for a long-term relationship right now [35:32] QUOTES: “My team told me I should write a book that takes these sales strategies and teaches daters how to date using them. So I wrote it.” “There's a difference between games and strategy. A strategy is going out with a certain number of people and arming yourself with these techniques so a person can really get to know you.” “If you're seeing a negative pattern in your relationships over and over again, the reason is you have a certain mindset that is sabotaging your love life.” “The purpose of a date is for you to get to know someone and them to get to know you. In order to do that, you both have to be in the present moment - you can't be future focused.” “If you're too self-focused, you can't accurately assess what's going on in the relationship or with the person sitting across from you.” “Being loving is not about doing whatever another person asks. It means responding in a loving way. It means being loving in how you handle anyone in a situation.” “People go on dates and they're more concerned with what sounds good and what the other person is going to want. Focus on who you are and what is important to you.” “You really have to know yourself and what you're looking for. Otherwise, you're going to be tied up into what the other person wants to hear from you, which is not important at all.” “Just be yourself and don't worry if the other person doesn't like you. Just go into everything with good intentions and a good heart and it'll be fine.” “If you're nervous on a date, mirror theory is so helpful because all you have to do is mirror the other person. You don't have to overthink it - your body language will come off just right.” “Remember your CEE Factor: SEE Factor: Smile, Eye Contact, Energy. The other person will feel that positive energy and know that you like them and are excited to meet them.” “End your date at the height of impulse. If you're having a great time on a date and thinking 'I wish this date would never end' - that is the exact point where it should end.”

If you've transitioned into a role where you're helping others achieve a desired result, you may be unsure what to call yourself. You are not alone! You may have heard the words “coach” and “consultant” used interchangeably and you're not sure what the difference really is. Maybe you've shifted away from being a service provider and started sharing your expertise with others. We see this quite often when our students and speakers are growing as educators. Although this may sound like a business issue, it also impacts your speaking strategy. On this episode of The Speak to Scale Podcast we're breaking down the difference between coaching and consulting to help you figure out which type of speaker you are so that you can start scaling your business from the stage. If you loved this episode and it motivated you to add speaking to your business, please take the time to leave me some positive feedback on iTunes. I'd also love to hear about your biggest takeaway. Which Disney character would you murder? In this episode, Jessica Kirson and I talk about why she would kill Elsa from Frozen, the reason she didn’t mind sucking dick in high school and what it was like checking into gay rehab. Jessica Kirson is a powerhouse on stage. Jessica’s act is a hilariously relatable performance of sheer silliness, vulnerability, and ridiculous characters. Her countless comedic character videos have racked up over 30 million views on social media. Her audience is multigenerational, creating an excuse for large groups of friends and families to spend a night out together. Jessica opens the show speaking about what it was like pledging for a sorority and meeting her first girlfriend. Then, Jessica moved to Lesbianville – she felt a little out of place. However, she was doing so many drugs then, so she needed to get away from her family. Jessica would do cocaine alone; nobody knew about it. She was very good at hiding it, yet she can’t believe that she did drugs alone. Also, Jessica didn’t even like cocaine, it made her super paranoid- she would hear things and sit and listen for two hours. Plus, Jessica speaks about sending marijuana through the mail. Then, Jessica talks about sending herself to gay rehab. She Googled the rehab herself! Jessica is blessed that she is able to take care of herself. When she made it to rehab, Jessica sat in the waiting room for ten hours because she needed a room by herself. Her family knew that she went to rehab and even visited her. Later, Jessica speaks about doing phone therapy – every time she sits down for a session, she feels enraged. Sometimes Jessica is so angry that she feels like no one understands her. Stay tuned as Jessica speaks about phone therapy, killing Elsa from Frozen, and fighting during the quarantine. In this Episode: [ 9:15 ] Pledging for a sorority [ 11:15 ] Why Jessica doesn’t mind giving blow jobs [ 12:45 ] About moving to Lesbianville [ 13:50 ] Jessica liked doing drugs alone [ 17:20 ] Sending weed through the mail [ 20:20 ] About going to gay rehab [ 29:30 ] Why Jessica won’t be playing clubs soon [ 38:00 ] Jessica is doing phone therapy [ 44:00 ] How Jessica gets to feel comfortable [ 50:35 ] When Jessica used to wear skirts and dresses [ 53:30 ] About getting chased in a nightmare [ 57:00 ] Why Jessica wants to kill Elsa from Frozen [ 60:30 ] Fighting as a couple during the quarantine Quotes: “I like choking on food, so I didn’t mind sucking a dick.” “It’s very self-destructive to do cocaine alone.” “I need my own room in rehab.” “I wish I could kill Elsa in front of people.” Links Mentioned: Jessica’s Website: https://jessicakirson.com/ Relatively Sane: https://jessicakirson.com/podcast/ Jessica’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessykirson/ Support Jessica at www.Patreon.com/JessicaKirson Email me: emmasbunker@gmail.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/emmawillmannshow/support

This episode marks the one year anniversary of Husband In Law. Steve, Jessica and Matt thank their listeners for following their story and share some of their favorite moments recording.Taking the first step and deciding to start a podcast wasn’t an easy decision. Jessica has mentioned before that she felt a calling to help make a difference in people’s lives. For her that calling led to this podcast. Steve struggled with sharing his story and worried about the criticism he thought he would receive. Ultimately, he decided that other people’s opinions were not as important as sharing a message that could help someone going through similar experiences. Matt’s reasoning for sharing was similar. He says he wished he had something like this podcast to turn to in his past relationship.Steve, Jessica and Matt have found personal growth through these shared experiences. Reminiscing their past and being open with one another while recording is like their personal therapy sessions. Because of Husband In Law, the three have found happiness in places they didn't look before. They recognize that no one has the perfect relationship or the perfect parenting technique and that’s okay. It’s these moments that help us grow together.Key TakeawaysOne year podcast anniversary (1:15)Courage to start the podcast (1:40)How Steve came around to the idea of doing a podcast (5:40)Fears of criticism (6:15)Individual takeaways from the podcast so far (7:07)Followers favorite moments (9:40)What Jessica loves about the podcast (18:00)Podcast has been therapy for Steve (20:10)Matt, Jessica and Steve reminisce many firsts thanks to the podcast (23:59)Why Jessica shaved her head (26:50)Reflection of happiness and how they feel a year into the podcast (35:45)How the podcast created more contentment in their lives (40:32)Additional Resources www.Linktr.ee/TheBoldLogic--Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook!--You can find the podcast on Apple, Google, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you listen to podcasts. If you haven’t already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
In this episode, I’m joined by agent, real estate coach and podcaster, Jessica Lentz. She is a great example of the fact that it is possible to build a business with boundaries that allow us to lead a fulfilling life, without earning less money or struggling to get clients. Jessica has built a $15 million volume business, working 5 hours a day, and working only clients who are a good fit. By not compromising and prioritizing what she values, she has built a business that’s a vehicle for living her best life, not a trap. Jessica is a Realtor at Colorado Realty Pros and the Selling Dreams Team. She is in the top 1% of single agents in Colorado. She is also a real estate coach, speaker, teacher, and co-host of the podcast Home Girls. There are many types of successful real estate business models, and we do actually have the ability to choose what our business is going to be like. In order for this job to truly be a vehicle for freedom, we actually have to run it in a way that’s truly authentic to us. That means working with who we want to work with, building a business around what we love, and boundaries to protect what we value most. In this episode, Jessica shares how she has been able to be successful in real estate without getting away from what matters to her. In this episode, we discussed: - Being more intentional with building and maintaining client relationships - How Jessica has built a successful business working 5 hours a day and setting boundaries. - Why success in real estate isn’t just about numbers and transactions. - Why Jessica chose to go against the grain and not follow the mega-agent path. - The truth about having it all. - How to get good at setting boundaries and why people don’t do it in the first place. - Jessica’s podcast - Jessica’s top 3 pieces of advice for kicking ass Guest Info Jessica is a Realtor, real estate coach and co-host of the Home Girls podcast. In this episode, Matt, Steve, and Jessica will continue their conversation on how dating was like for Matt and Jessica before they got married. They will dive into the subject of love languages, which refer to how different people love each differently. Jessica will explain how she is comfortable with her weird mix of love languages because everyone in her life loves her in their own unique way and she appreciates it. Matt’s love language towards Jessica for example, includes him understanding the importance of accepting Steve as part of their lives because he’s always known what Steve means to Jessica and Penny.Steve’s love languages when he was married to Jessica and in life in general are physical touch, words of affirmation, and quality time. He was always very affectionate and touchy, especially in public. It took Jessica a lot of getting used to when she got married to Matt because Matt is not affectionate. However, he was more affectionate when they were dating, and made up for the inadequate affection by always writing cute texts and notes for Jessica. They will highlight the value of couples doing nice things for each other without expecting anything in return and address the issue where a woman doubts her partner’s motives when he does a nice thing for her because she thinks he just wants to score some sex in return. A nice gesture goes a long way in making a person feel loved, and for women especially, when it’s done with the expectation of nothing in return, they tend to show up better in the bedroom. Matt and Jessica will share so much more about the time they were dating, like how they never went out on many dates because they just couldn’t, and how Matt designed Jessica's ring and had it custom-made so he could propose to her with it. It’s all going to be a super interesting look at what a great relationship that can lead to marriage should look like, and so much more, so don’t miss out.Highlights of the Discussion: The first time the Hosanna shouts were done outside (03:29)Steve’s time of big self reflection when he always takes a good hard look at where he is in life and how he feels about it (06:23)The peace and calm of watching conference (09:18)Avoiding the habit of beating ourselves up and thinking we have to hit some high standard of something none of us are ever going to get to (12:00)Opening ourselves up to being okay with receiving love in different ways (16:15)Steve’s starvation for affection because of the quarantine (22:04)It doesn’t take much to show people love (23:08)Taking a birthday trip whether the quarantine is lifted or not (29:06)The backstory of how Matt designed a ring and proposed to Jessica (32:16)Getting married at an adorable teeny tiny church (35:13)How sewing, cooking, and food canning skills will come in handy during this time (40:10)Why Jessica never went mountain biking with Steve and yet did it with Matt (48:08)The bishop who not only married Matt and Jessica, but was also Steve’s bishop (52:25)Additional Resources:www.Linktr.ee/TheBoldLogic--Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook!--You can find the podcast on Apple, Google, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you listen to podcasts. If you haven’t already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts!
Be honest. Doesn't adding an extra revenue stream to your business sound nice, especially in times like these? Jessica Lorimer can help with that. She had a successful corporate career, being one of the industry's highest performing sales people, until she was diagnosed with a chronic illness. Her doctor told her she either had to dial back on her working hours or be in a wheelchair by the time she turned 35. Jessica took this as an opportunity to create her own business, and today is responsible for the huge success of entrepreneurs selling their services to corporate organisations across the globe, adding corporate revenue to their businesses. As Jessica says, “If you want to generate the cash flow to help your online business take off, get a corporate revenue stream. The average UK corporate sale is worth £10K, the average B2C sale is worth £1'500. You can work less hard to generate 5 times the amount.” If you feel more than ever that your business could use an extra revenue stream, then this episode with Jessica is a must-listen. But adding a corporate revenue stream to your business isn't only about making extra money - it also increases your credibility. Jessica says that even though books have become a huge credibility factor, nowadays everyone can write them. It's different having a corporate revenue stream: “Only qualified people can add a corporate revenue stream because corporations are not going to buy from anybody they don't believe in.” On this episode of the Sigrun Show, you will hear all about how to create your own corporate revenue stream, plus an incredible story about one of Jessica's clients who used to sell one-to-one services to women going through menopause and ended up selling to corporate clients instead. I hugely resonate with Jessica's mission to make female business owners generate big impact and income, and appreciate her straightforwardness. So whether you want to generate more revenue, gain credibility or try out something that might be outside your comfort zone, this episode will help you. “If you want to generate the cash flow to help your online business take off, get a corporate revenue stream.” What you will get out of this episode: Why Jessica had to leave her corporate career and created her own business (4:42) How she pivoted her business and finally found her calling (6:50) Why online businesses should sell to corporate organisations at an early stage (9:59) What having a corporate revenue stream can do for you (10:40) What you can sell to corporates (12:19) The three steps to create your own corporate revenue stream (13:34) How one of Jessica's clients wasn't happy with doing B2C, pivoted and had her first corporate client within six weeks and is now fully booked (21:15) Why corporates don't care about your social media presence, and what they really care about (27:05) How corporates use LinkedIn as a professional networking platform, and you can, too (31:47) Ready to create your own corporate revenue stream? What can Netflix’s Love is Blind teach us about our own relationships? SO much! Jessica Cox started her career in higher education working in advising at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. Manhattanville College's advising office is anything but typical — it operates more like a customer success department than it does a customer service department, which means that Jessica was intimately involved in ensuring that students AND alumni were thriving during the program and after graduation. After almost three years, Jessica decided to take what she'd learned while accompanying graduate education students through their respective programs and apply it on the front lines – in the office of graduate admissions and recruitment. On this week's episode, Zach Busekrus sits down with Jessica to discuss: - Why Jessica left advising for admissions - How enrollment marketers working in graduate admissions can do a better job at reducing friction during the handoff between admissions and advising - How her advising experience enabled Jessica to be a better enrollment marketing and “sales” professional

Do you root for the underdog? My guest today pulls for the underdogs of the podcast world---the small, independent podcasters who don’t grab the big sponsorships. Let’s find out what she’s about and how she has made her place in the podcasting arena. Jessica Kupferman is an internet and digital marketing pioneer who helps content creators grow and monetize a loyal, rabid fan base through understanding connection and the power of influence. She has worked on branding and messaging for large corporations such as Comcast, Subaru, as well as with hundreds of bloggers, podcasters, and online entrepreneurs by teaching personality-driven social media and sales strategies. Jessica is the co-host and co-founder of the She Podcasts brand, which currently supports over 10,000 female podcasters, and has a digital marketing reach of over 50,000 content creators. She started a podcast advertising agency, JK Media Agency in 2015, and then sold it in 2017 to pursue her passion for helping independent podcasters to create connection and step into their influence. Currently, Jessica is the head of marketing for Rebel Base Media and loves helping their members prepare for success in podcasting. She’s a busy lady, and I’m happy to welcome Jessica to the show! Creating an authentic organization for women Can men be part of She Podcasts? The answer is no. The group remains loyal to maintaining an authentic organization for women podcasters---a place of familiarity and comfort where women can be themselves. Jessica wants it to be a safe space of relaxation and feels that allowing men to join would take away from that. Even though men have asked to join, she says, “If we let one, then we’d have to let them all!” Every other podcast group out there is available for men to join, so this one will stay different and unique. Jessica’s background in the corporate world was always in jobs in heavily male-dominated fields, so she’s happy to have founded and to be a part of something that offers exclusive support to women. TWEET: Your legacy won’t be your body of work but will be how you make people feel. @jesskupferman Why you can’t advocate for every cause Do you champion the causes you believe in? Most of us love being the advocate and the voice for the things we feel strongly about. The problem is that so many try to champion EVERY cause. You can’t advocate for everything, because you’ll exhaust yourself, and trying to defend every cause makes you a vague person who seems like they don’t know what they really stand for. Wanting to help is NOT enough, because there has to be a connection and a personal incentive. Be who you are. TWEET: You can’t be an advocate for everything all the time. @jesskupferman Focus on the individual Would you sacrifice to help “the little guy”? Jessica really wanted to help small shows monetize their podcasts, but she needed to prove that to her advertisers. Today, she teaches with the Podcast Success Academy and focuses on teaching podcasters how to pitch, grow, and market their podcasts. Jessica shares how she was willing to make sacrifices and changes, which were prompted by the loss of her daughter, a pivotal point in Jessica’s life. She says we need to learn to ask the right questions to figure out who we are. TWEET: When you die, you take with you the memories of how you made other people feel. @jesskupferman OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:25] Starting an organization and seeing organic growth [3:37] No men allowed [5:20] An environment of safety and inclusion [7:05] Jessica’s work in the corporate world [9:43] “Know, relate, understand, and respect” [14:37] The pressure to advocate for EVERYTHING [16:35] Don’t try to champion every cause [18:25] The dangers of social media [22:15] Why Jessica wanted to focus on “the little guy” [24:25] Making sacrifices and changes [28:07] Making sense of the loss of a loved one [30:25] Learning to pivot as you age [37:45] Jessica’s impact: having a good time RESOURCES MENTIONED: www.aimeej21.com/episode185 www.aimeej21.com/donate Find out more about how to help Chasing Dreams! Do you ever forget the "why" behind your business? What is it that motivates and drives you to continue building your photography business? In episode 71 of the Bokeh Podcast, Jessica Kaucz of See Me Roar dives into the passion and motivation behind her work that has become the "why" in building her business. From personal experience to impacting the lives of others, Jessica's primary goal in her photography is to empower women. Listen in as she shares 4 simple steps you can take to finding the "why" in your photography business. The Bokeh podcast is brought to you by Photographer’s Edit: Custom Post-Production for the Wedding and Portrait Photographer. You can also subscribe to the Bokeh podcast on the Apple podcast app or add to your playlist on Stitcher. Jessica’s Aha Moment: She needed to let the public get to know her personally online so they can decide if they want to work with her. If they can’t connect on a personal level, then she’ll never be able to get those photos out of them. Time Management Technique: If you have kids, you understand the organization that must come with them, so Jessica stays organized, which helps keep her time managed. Why Jessica is a Photographer: She wants to show people the beauty in real life, in daily life. Jessica photographs in a very raw and real way. She’s on a journey to empower women and in order to do that she no longer removes what some would call “flaws” in photographs. Jessica’s Motivation Behind Her Work: Her two daughters inspire her to make a change in the definition of beauty. She doesn’t want them to feel like they have to be an ornament for somebody. 4 Steps to Finding Your “Why" 1. Try a lot of things and give yourself the opportunity to find what it is you truly enjoy. 2. Listen to what people are saying about you and find out what works with your clients that you do. 3. Take time to think about what bits of life make you excited and use that as motivation. 4. Remove the limitations of society and the noise in your mind and think about what you really want to do. MagaMama with Kimberly Ann Johnson: Sex, Birth and Motherhood
This interview is not about offering answers, a strategy or a plan but more how to navigate deep change by embracing the unknown, dancing with mystery and meeting one-self in a tender transparent integrity every step of the way. At the beginning of 2017, Jessica's business and marriage were falling apart, she was sinking into debt and found herself facing an identity crisis in both her personal and professional lives. She made a radical decision to embrace her resistance, step into her deepest fears, and set forth to intentionally fall apart in a wholesome way. Kimberly meets Jessica somewhere on her journey in this interview. She's rebuilding her marriage, and navigating how she "does business" from a place that's generative, collaborative and restorative. Jessica Durivage, the creator of Where is My Guru – an award winning podcast and online school for personal development and spiritual transformation has been a bridge builder for the health and wellness communities and conscious media for over 15 years. In this podcast, we're excited to bring you two expert guests at the intersection of fitness, technology, and education. So many of the leaders we've had on the show have given us a powerful inside look behind the curtain of what fitness tech apps, platforms, and devices are positively impacting our space, but many in the health, wellness, and fitness worlds still have looming questions about exactly how these technologies will plug in into our healthcare ecosystems. A bigger and even more specific question around fitness technology is how will the education and integration of these new innovations support long term behavior change for our industry's members? With the rise of technology, how is the academic world answering the call to create that trusted bridge between the knowing and the doing when it comes to applying technology and facilitating positive health outcomes? We're answering these questions and much more in this episode with fitness technology expert Ted Vickey, for his return to the show from episode 008, and Jessica Matthews, an award-winning and industry leading health and wellness educator. You'll also learn about applying evidence-based coaching strategies with behavior change techniques to facilitate meaningful lifestyles, how health and fitness pros can collaborate with colleagues in a wide variety of settings to provide an integrative approach to health, and why Point Loma Nazarene University has created the Kinesiology, M.S., Integrative Wellness, to teach students about using technology that provides lifestyle interventions to prevent and effectively manage chronic disease. Starting as the Executive Director of the White House Athletic Center through his fitness consulting company, FitWell, and continuing with his latest project as a Ph.D. researcher on Social Networking and Exercise at the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ted has proven to be an early adopter and advocate in technical systems and their applicability to fitness. Ted believes we can take advantage of technology to not only motivate individuals across the globe to get out the door and move but to be in closer contact with healthcare providers. He is an emeritus member of the Board of Directors for the American Council on Exercise and has consulted with key organizations such as the Department of Commerce, the Securities and Exchange Commission, Fruit of the Loom, TSA and more. For anyone who is interested in being of service in our health and fitness world, educational programs like PLNU's online Master's in Kinesiology, Integrative Wellness will support professionals to improve health in the U.S. through interventions in behavior change, nutrition, and physical activity. Power Quotes From Ted & Jessica "The iPhone 6 is one million times more powerful than the computer used to put the man on the moon. What I suggest is that we as the fitness industry, the health industry, and the healthcare industry realize this is our moonshot. This is how we can make a difference, and that is by using technology to make a difference in the lives of those that we have the opportunity and the privilege to serve." - Ted Vickey on the Fitness + Technology Podcast "There is certainly a missing piece in our healthcare system, and honestly, a missing piece in the fitness industry. We really have to understand that we work with "whole people," encompassing the body, mind, and spirit. In order to really impact meaningful changes in behavior and improve health outcomes we must understand the dynamics of what it is that motivates people to make these changes and how they can be sustainable. That strategy essentially boils down to our evidence-based practices." - Jessica Matthews on the Fitness + Technology Podcast Resources Mentioned On The Episode PLNU - Online Kinesiology, M.S., Integrative Wellness PLNU - Integrative Wellness on facebook Ted Vickey on Linkedin Jessica Matthews on LinkedIn Ted's "The Wireless Future of Wellness Is Now" TEDx Talk Ted Vickey's Website Jessica Matthew's Website FTP Episode #008 Ted Vickey: How New Technologies Are Changing Our Fitness Landscape UCSD Center For Integrative Medicine International Consortium For Health and Wellness Coaching Moore's Law You Now Have a Shorter Attention Span Than a Goldfish Fitness Industry Leadership Council - ILC Heal App: Interview With Dr. Renee Dua 011 Live From CES 2017: Fitbit Group Health - Amy McDonough Mio Wearables Nokia Wellness Devices Jessica's favorite books: Jon Kabat-Zinn Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Wellness and fitness technology regulations for 2017 Tech disruption in the fitness industry by Amanda Vogel Thanks To Our Outstanding Sponsors Bryan O’Rourke and his family of companies including Vedere Ventures, Integerus Advisors, and many more. She wants to help you break down limiting beliefs and mindset blocks to set you up to rock in your business. The group academy will be a mix of group calls, mastermind and calls with Tonya. IN THIS EPISODE 2:00 Tonya binge listened to Jessica's podcast in order to learn everything she needed to know before starting the Profit Party podcast. 4:25 Before things were amazing, there were hiccups and there still are hiccups. Jessica shares her stories of bumps in the road and how she got started in her entrepreneur journey. 5:00 When Jessica got pregnant, she quit her job at a non-profit. Her dad told her about being a virtual assistant. Her dad was her first client. She didn't think about how much money she needed to make when she quit her job. 8:30 Her and her husband made decisions to live the "perfect" lifestyle and found that it came with the high price tag. They had a lot of credit card debt and made changes since facing their debt 8-10 months ago. They started following Dave Ramsey's plan to start cutting down on their debt. 10:00 The slippery slope of using credit cards. Jessica remembers getting her first credit card at her college. It's an emotional roller coaster to build a business and not have the income and money to pay for things. You don't want to not spend money because you feel like you're on a money diet. 12:53 Four years is how long it takes to get money coming in, get the right team members and have momentum going in your business. Jessica feels like she's at that point and it takes a while to get that business going. How well a business is going and what happens before the success 13:37 People see from the outside that the business is going well, but people don't see how much the entrepreneur is paying themselves and what happens before the success. There's so many changes that have to be made when you have a mindset shift when you decide not to buy things that you don't need. It's like going on a diet, it takes a bit see changes. You have to celebrate the little wins and build up for a big reward. For Jessica, paying off the debt and her reward will be getting a bathroom on her second floor. 15:45 Jessica started out as a virtual assistant for her dad. She checked links, categorized videos, client support, and Pinterest marketing. That's when she started getting into the podcast booking with her dad asking her to book him on podcasts. 16:53 Her transition from the door to door canvassing director for a non-profit, to an online business owner was a great advantage to her as she started working at podcast pitching. 18:00 Pitching big podcasters and not knowing who the big celebrities are in the online world. Fan girling the online celebrities and how we view the celebrities in the US culture. Talk to online celebrities like a peer and they'll be more likely to help you out and work with you. 20:14 The mindset of aspiring to be like those we look up to, we create a barrier of what we perceive our capabilities to be. If we copy what we like about them, we can act like them and take on those personality traits, it's easier to talk to them when you meet them. 21:47 Jessica tries to demystify the celebrities with her work. The huge celebrities are not the ones who will help you get where you need to be. She hit 6 figures and she had an email list of 200. Her view is that she'd rather be making a lot of money instead of being famous. Focus on making money in your business and the fame will come at that point. 24:24 Pick the people you're listening to and make sure they are actually making money and are successful. Focus on your own stuff. 25:07 What to focus on and how to get started podcasting. You're not going to be good when you first start. Record a few episodes and they might not be good, but just get started. You don't have to be marketing on every platform. When you blog, video, and podcast, there are pros and cons to putting out that much content. You have to make sure your podcast will fit in well with your business. Either interviewing clients and have great guest co-hosts. 30:37 When you first get on a call to podcast with them, break the ice and start talking before recording. That's really where you'll make or break the show. The goal is to have good chemistry with the guest and host. 32:38 Why Jessica decided to pick the service of hooking up podcasters and guests as her core service. She looked at what had the greatest potential for growth and money. 33:57 How she started pitching podcasts by looking at iTunes and emailing the hosts. She loves the excitement when her clients get booked on a podcast. 34:50 If you're bootstrapping your podcast pitching, listen to Jessica's podcast episodes on pitching podcasts. Come up with a one sheet and give podcasters something they can look at when you pitch them. Jessica is giving a free one sheet to the listeners which you can get on her website with the code publicity. Podcasters don't want to know why you're a great guest, they want to know what great content they will get from you. [bctt tweet="Focus on making money in your business and the fame will come at that point." username="tonyarineer"] KEY TAKEAWAYS Jessica shares her stories of bumps in the road and how she got started in her entrepreneur journey. Today on Cause Talk Radio, Megan and Joe talk to Jessica Li, Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Kansas, about a new article that explores how corporate social responsibility efforts are perceived by different cultures. These efforts may not be effective for all consumers or in all countries. On the show, Megan, Jessica and I discuss: Why Jessica and her team decided to do this research. The team focused on two "individualistic" cultures and two "collectivistic" cultures. How people had different feelings toward CSR programs executed by domestic and foreign companies. How marketing messages need to differ for individualistic and collectivistic cultures. Tips for U.S. companies that want to engage in CSR activities in foreign markets. The importance of companies having a long-term commitment to a cause regardless of the country or culture. The need for more research on consumer behavior, especially in collectivistic cultures. Megan and Joe suggest two companies that may be excelling in foreign markets. Links & Notes Jessica Li at KU School of Business

Jessica Rhodes runs Interview Connections, a company that helps match podcasts with guest experts. Her business is booming. And she’s running it with a team of virtual employees. Everything was running smooth. And then Jessica had to take time off for the birth of her second child. Jessica kept giving her assistant more control in the business. When Jessica came back and began reclaiming control, things turned bad. And it didn’t end well between them. Here’s what Jessica and I discuss: The big challenge we face with employee/boss relationships. What happens when you give someone too much control while you’re away, and what happens when you try to get it back. Why financial incentives don’t alway work to motivate someone. How tension grew between Jessica and her employee, and conversations that used to flow smoothly were now strained. How the feeling of distrust grew and ruined their relationship. What Jessica could’ve done that might have changed the outcome. How she fell into the trap of giving up control. The key Jessica discovered to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Why Jessica isn’t ready to let go of the control of her business and be an ’absentee CEO." Our discussion about the “business as a baby” metaphor. Why it’s good and bad. What she’s doing now to make sure her business grows and supports her lifestyle. The one thing you need to know about virtual assistants before hiring one. Hack the Entrepreneur Top Ten | Business | Marketing | Productivity | Habits
This interview was originally published on March 11, 2015, as HTE 070: How to Find and Follow Your Inner Voice | Jessica Rea The popularity of this interview has been truly impressive. Not that Jessica isn’t a smart entrepreneur, she definitely is. But the fact that she is not a ‘big name’ in the space and how she struggles simply with the title of entrepreneur, makes this conversation more interesting Jessica is in the same position you may be in, and I believe that is why this conversation has resonated so well with listeners like you. This is a deep dive into the inner voices (and struggles) of becoming an entrepreneur. --- Today’s guest is not only a smart entrepreneur, she is also part designer, part business strategist, and part coach. A few years ago she would’ve told you that she wasn’t an entrepreneur, but this has changed. She now runs her own successful business and helps other ‘ladypreneurs’ gain the clarity and confidence they need to connect with their ideal clients, build their brand and business online. Last year, we had the pleasure of meeting at Chris Ducker’s Tropical Think Tank and I was blown away by her marketing strategies (which she calls her super power) and her truly beautiful web design work, that has been the foundation of her business for years. Now, let’s hack… Jessica Rea. In this 33-minute episode Jessica and I discuss: Understanding your clients and helping them achieve their goals Turning your insecurities into assets How to create opportunities for yourself Dealing with the loneliness of starting your own business Why Jessica starts her day the night before How to start your day to stay focussed and productive Learning to hit publish (both literally and metaphorically) The Show Notes JessicaRea.me The Ladypreneur Community on Facebook World Domination Summit Deepak Chopra Guided Meditation Jessica on Twitter Jonny on Twitter Exclusive Sponsor: FreshBooks 30-Day Free Trial
