Die meisten Studien und Szenarien zeigen, dass wir langfriste negative Emissionen brauchen. Eine Möglichkeit für negative Emissionen bietet die Technologie Direct Air Capture (DAC). This is a conversation with the three esteemed authors of a paper entitled “Russian Sabotage in the Gig-Economy Era”, written by Daniela Richterova, Elena Grossfeld, Magda Long and Patrick Bury. I'm delighted to be joined by three of them today. ---------- We are experiencing the most intense era of sabotage since the Second World War in Western countries. Russian operations have now reached unprecedented levels. It seems the main aim is to increase the costs of supporting Ukraine, while at the same time slowing the delivery of military supplies. Russian operations are increasingly organised around ‘gig-economy' principles. The dangers are mounting from operations that have an element of plausible deniability, that can scale, while causing significant damage and sowing terror. ---------- LINKS: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/03071847.2024.2401232 https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10.1080/03071847.2024.2401232?needAccess=true https://news.sky.com/story/mi6-and-cia-warn-of-reckless-campaign-of-sabotage-across-europe-being-waged-by-russia-13210838 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp8e15yr1gwo ---------- BIOGRAPHIES: Daniela Richterova is Associate Professor in Intelligence Studies at the Department of War Studies, King's College London.

In this episode, we offer up three independent segments. Matt Richter is joined first by Nidhi Sachdeva. Nidhi is both an evidence-based learning designer and a researcher. She just completed her PhD in the spring, and the two talk about the differences between learning and performance. Then, Guy Wallace is in the house. Guy needs no introduction, having been a performance analyst and instructional architect for a few decades now. We talk about his latest book, The L&D Pivot Point, published by LDA Press. Finally, in our third segment, the inimitable Thiagi joins Matt for a new series we will intermittently run called “A Person of Interest.” Thiagi shares his biography… his story with us.You can find Nidhi most easily on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nidhi-sachdeva-toronto/, or her blog with Jim Hewitt here: https://scienceoflearning.substack.com Guy can be found here: https://eppic.biz/guy-w-wallace-2/ And, Thiagi here: https://thiagi.com. Nidhi references the work of Paul Kirscher, John Sweller, and Richard Mayer and their article, Why Minimal Guidance During Instruction Does Not Work: An Analysis of the Failure of Constructivist, Discovery, Problem-Based, Experiential, and Inquiry-Based Teaching. In this episode, we delve into the research surrounding coffee and its effect on our health. Tara uncovers some intriguing insights that challenge the popular notion of giving up coffee altogether. Despite the common misconception that coffee is harmful, numerous studies have actually linked moderate coffee consumption to several health benefits. Did you know that drinking coffee is associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality? That's right, your daily cup of joe might just be contributing to a longer lifespan! Multiple large studies and meta-analyses have consistently shown that moderate coffee consumption, ranging from 1 to 3 cups a day (or even up to 2 to 5 cups), is generally not associated with negative health effects. In fact, it may have significant benefits for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, depression, certain types of cancer, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. Here's a sneak peek of what we uncover: 1️⃣ The health benefits associated with moderate coffee consumption. 2️⃣ How coffee may protect your liver from diseases like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. 3️⃣ The potential role of coffee in lowering the risk of certain GI tract cancers. 4️⃣ Coffee's impact on vascular health and its potential to reduce the risk of heart disease. 5️⃣ The relationship between coffee consumption and metabolic health, including its potential to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.   Mentioned in this episode: Herbatonin – Save 15% when you use Tara's code: Tara15 MegaSporeBiotic – Click HERE to grab this probiotic and use my practitioner code, which also gets you 10% off: TaraMegaSpore   SOURCES: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5440772/ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0033062018300392?via%3Dihub https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10408390903586412?scroll=top&needAccess=true https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2017/FO/C7FO00388A https://journals.lww.com/eurjcancerprev/abstract/2017/09000/coffee_and_cancer_risk__a_summary_overview.9.aspx https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29167102/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8778943/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8352830/ https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/public-health-nutrition/article/does-coffee-tea-and-caffeine-consumption-reduce-the-risk-of-incident-breast-cancer-a-systematic-review-and-network-metaanalysis/9C2DE2DCA91F548E6898167852599BD8     Hi, I'm Tara Thorne, FDN-P, RHN, FNC and women's health and hormone expert. 'Primary progressive aphasia (PPA)' is an umbrella term for a group of language-led dementias which leave people unable to communicate effectively with others. PPA can have a devastating impact on people's ability to function and socialise. Speech and language therapy offers a range of potential benefits to people with PPA. However, until now there has been little research asking them and their families about what help they would like from speech and language therapy.  In this podcast we chat with Chris Hardy, Anna Volkmer, Jason Warren about their research (*and that of colleagues) about their research to answer that question. The paper is: ‘Like going into a chocolate shop, blindfolded': What do people with primary progressive aphasia want from speech and language therapy?*Maria Loizidou, Emilie Brotherhood, Emma Harding, Sebastian Crutch, Jason D. Gender: A Wider Lens Podcast

Gender: A Wider Lens Podcast

On this episode of Gender: A Wider Lens, Stella & Sasha sit down with Dr. Michael Biggs, Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St Cross College. Dr. Biggs has been key in uncovering vital information that led to the independent Cass Review on GIDS at Tavistock. Biggs has since turned his laser-like focus on the Dutch Protocol and in this episode, he discusses many of the issues with this flawed model. His distinguished body of work includes articles on social movements and collective protest published in all the leading disciplinary journals, including the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, British Journal of Sociology, and Social Forces. In this conversation, Dr. Biggs tells the story of his experience as a professor in a graduate sociology program when he encountered pushback from students about discussing gender identity from a sociological perspective as part of a classroom exercise. Dr. Biggs has a longstanding history of advocating on behalf of LGBT issues and found himself puzzled when students questioned his intentions. He decided to dig into the literature to try to understand where and how the topic of gender generated such surprising responses from a few of his students. After diving deep into pediatric gender medicine, he continued pursuing investigations into the unreported outcomes for patients at the largest pediatric gender clinic in the world, the Tavistock's Gender Identity Development Services (GIDS). After a lack of response when he requested information from the GIDS directly, Dr. Biggs filed a Freedom of Information request to access data about research and treatment protocols being conducted at the clinic. Ultimately, the buried outcomes of using puberty blockers in children and adolescents were far less than positive. Biggs began to wonder: how was the puberty blocker pathway worthy of its reputation as the “gold standard” for pediatric transgender care? Where was the research to back up that claim? What motivated Michael to dedicate so much effort to learning and reporting on medical experimentation in gender-affirming care? Dr. Biggs describes feeling compelled to a sense of duty and responsibility to use his privilege to fight for academic truth. His pursuit of the truth, along with that of several other key “whistleblowers” from within Tavistock itself, ultimately yielded momentum for the systematic “Cass Review.” The review process took over two years, but the interim findings reported in late 2022 ultimately resulted in the closure of the GIDS clinic.Links:Puberty Blockers and Suicidality in Adolescents Suffering from Gender Dysphoriahttps://rdcu.be/c4YpUThe Dutch Protocol for Juvenile Transsexuals: Origins and Evidencehttps://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/0092623X.2022.2121238?scroll=top&needAccess=true&role=tabGender Trender — 4th wave nowhttps://4thwavenow.com/2018/11/17/wordpress-dumps-gendertrender-gallus-mag-responds/The Wrong Body (video series - viewing requests available from the British Film Institute)Part 1 - https://www2.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b80c5d9ba Part 2 - https://www2.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b7f121f1bIf you liked this...

How has China gained influence at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and what type of agenda will they continue to pursue if the US and our allies do not step up our participation? If China and Russia win the upcoming ITU election, we're going to find out. Coined recently as “https://www.brookings.edu/blog/techtank/2022/08/12/the-most-important-election-you-never-heard-of/ (the most important election you have never heard of),” the ITU's plenipotentiary conference in late September will give members the chance to vote on a new Secretary General and group of high officials. If China's favored candidates succeed, they will continue to dictate the rules, standards, and best practices around emerging technologies like 5G networks. Failure on the part of the US to thwart this effort will have tangible effects on everyday Americans. As two of our guests today have warned, “What is at stake is secure air travel, privacy in every sphere of modern life, and the ability of the US military to protect the American people. The stakes could not be higher.” On this episode, https://www.aei.org/profile/shane-tews/ (Shane) sits down with AEI Distinguished Senior Fellow https://www.aei.org/profile/danielle-pletka/ (Danielle Pletka) and Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow https://www.heritage.org/staff/brett-d-schaefer (Brett Schaefer), who co-authored a report titled https://www.heritage.org/global-politics/report/countering-chinas-growing-influence-the-international-telecommunication (Countering China's Growing Influence at the International Telecommunication Union). They're also joined https://dominiquelazanski.com/ (by Dominique Lazanski), a global internet governance expert and https://www.aei.org/technology-and-innovation/telecommunications/the-battle-for-global-internet-governance-highlights-from-my-conversation-with-dominique-lazanski/ (previous) Explain to Shane guest who last came on the show to discuss her 2020 essay, https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/23738871.2020.1805482?needAccess=true (Standardising the Splinternet: How China's Technical Standards Could Fragment the Internet). The four of them discuss the upcoming ITU election, remind us of its high stakes, and explain how China's quest to dominate the ITU is emblematic of a larger strategy to intimidate rivals and erode the United States' global influence.

I commonly get asked how to get started, and what to watch out for, so I try to address that here, along with common things that come up and trip people up with this new way of eating. ALSO! You DON'T have to take any supplements in general. If you need to take supplements to get basic nutrition, then by definition your diet is deficient. Carnivore isn't. If you get tested and have a mild deficiency for some reason, which can rarely happen, that's when you think about supplementing. One thing to remember is that most people don't get enough sunlight, and if you're in the temperate latitudes you wont get enough anyway for 9months out of the year, even if you spend a lot of time outside. Animal fats and butter have vitamin D already in them, but if you're not getting enough for whatever reason, you can think about taking vitamin D3 (not D2) then. John Vervaeke PhD is a Cognitive Scientist and Cognitive Psychotherapist whose work focuses on meaning and the science of wisdom. He's an award-winning lecturer at the University of Toronto, with his classes ranging from psychology, cognitive science to Buddhist psychology.   I discovered John and his work through my friend Connor during a time when we were both doing a lot of soul-searching and struggling with the ever-encroaching cloud of nihilism that is modern-day media. When we discovered John's work as well as the work of others in his "corner of the internet", our whole relationship to meaning, story, religion, and life changed.   When John agreed to speak with me, I was ecstatic at the chance to finally throw some of the many ideas that had bubbled up inside me during his lectures at him. While there were many more topics I'd originally hoped to hit on, I decided it would be best for our first conversation to try to zero in on the thesis of this whole project and discuss the dynamic of connection with people, things, and life in the age of the internet.   If you've been watching the channel for a bit you'll probably have picked up on my frustration with the atmosphere of modern media. I find social media and media in general acting as an attention-sucking soul-harvesting machine, but one that seems to be too integrated into our culture to simply unplug from and maintain the expected level of engagement with the world and culture around me. It feels like a sort of "damned if I do, damned if I don't" problem to me sometimes, and I often have trouble digging myself out of that thought cycle.   John was extremely gracious in his listening to my complaining about existence, which I was deeply thankful for. While I appreciate that I can be a bit of a downer, I find that I am simply not satisfied with an answer to difficult questions unless the question has had an appropriate amount of time on the mic to make its case. I really appreciated John patience, and ultimately this ended up feeling more like a therapy session than a conversation at times (which is bound to happen sometimes when talking to a psychotherapist).   I had really hoped to talk to John a bit more about Buddhism, Christianity, and Neo-platonism and the common threads between those traditions as well, but we ended up not having enough time to circle around to these topics. Fortunately, we've scheduled a follow up to this conversation, which will be out in several weeks, so be sure to subscribe and keep and eye out for that.   Key Terms: Perennial -- Lasting or existing for a long or apparently infinite time; enduring or continually recurring Relevance Realization -- Becoming aware of the most meaningful way to participate or engage with one's environment Affording/Affordance -- the quality or property of an object that defines its possible uses or makes clear how it can or should be used   Works Mentioned: The Science of Wisdom in a Polarized World: Knowns and Unknowns - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/1047840X.2020.1750917?needAccess=true (Mentioned at 53:00) Arthur Aron: The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness: A Procedure and Some Preliminary Findings - https://psychodramaaustralia.edu.au/sites/default/files/falling_in_love-aron.pdf (Mentioned at 57:30)   Paul Tyson - Returning to Reality: Christian Platonism for Our Times - https://www.amazon.ca/Returning-Reality-Christian-Platonism-Times/dp/1610979249   Videos: 1:00:50 My Conversation with J.P. video Concerning Catholicism and the Transcendent - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBvNK58WwQM&t=3615s 1:09:05 John Vervaeke's "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis" Series - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54l8_ewcOlY&list=PLND1JCRq8Vuh3f0P5qjrSdb5eC1ZfZwWJ Subscribe to the podcast Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/1ezktLCKtpdpPCvZHvFPvF iTunes https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/this-could-be-interesting/id1554166655 Google Podcasts https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkLnBvZGJlYW4uY29tL3RoaXNjb3VsZGJlaW50ZXJlc3Rpbmdwb2RjYXN0L2ZlZWQueG1s Podbean https://thiscouldbeinterestingpodcast.podbean.com/ John Vervaeke https://www.youtube.com/user/johnvervaeke/featured http://johnvervaeke.com/ https://www.facebook.com/VervaekeJohn/ Garrett Vandenberg https://www.garrettvandenberg.com/ https://www.facebook.com/garrettvandenbergmusic/ https://www.instagram.com/garrettvandenberg/ https://twitter.com/GarrettJVMusic/
